I am a writer. I would like to make a profit off this, who wouldn't? But even if I didn't the fact that people can view my words makes me a happy camper. Writing calms me and helps me meditate. Whatever I write I hope it is good and among deserving eyes.
The last conversation I had about voice was when my husband read my manuscript for Unit C. Prior to that he'd only read Liberty Village. Both books are written in the first person, one from the perspective of a teenage girl, the other from the perspective of a gruff military man in his thirties. My husband was surprised that the voice had changed so radically. "Of course it changed. They have completely different vocabularies." When he told me most writers have difficulty with that sort of thing, I found it hard to believe.
I was curious about this book because I wanted to know how other writers find their voice. Ironically, it lays out almost exactly what I do. Right down to gathering objects that ignite the imagination in the direction/emotion of the story. Sometimes I'll even go so far as to buy clothes I think my characters would like. I always thought of it as method writing. Not being classically trained as a writer, I was classically trained as an actress. But acting wasn't my dream. Where writing is concerned it's a relief any time I discover I'm doing something right. So thanks for that.
