Claire Correa seems to have it all. She's married to the love of her life, she has two beautiful kids, and they just bought their first house. To Claire it's a dream come true. But in reality nothing is ever as perfect as a dream and the house comes with disappointments. Her neighbors are all old women who have lived in the same houses for decades, she continues to make little headway with her moody, introvert stepdaughter, and to make the house livable they sink every last dollar they have into the place. Claire takes these in stride, knowing their problems are shared by millions of other average Americans. But what these other average American home owners don't share with Claire is a malevolent spirit that already resides in the house when they move in. An ancient evil that wants something from Claire in return for it's hospitality. Will Claire be willing to pay the price and make the ultimate Covenant?

The Correa family were looking for a house that they could afford. All the other houses they looked at were way over their budget. They stumbled on to this one house that was just perfect. They knew that they could not afford it but the realtor suggested that they put a bid in. Their bid was accepted and the house was theirs. The neighbors were a bunch of older women who have lived in the same houses for decades. Claire had a problem relating to her stepdaughter Alex. There never saw eye to eye and had nothing in common. Claire had horrific dreams to go along with her another problems. One night Claire saw this evil creature walking down the hallway. Claire tried to explain her dreams to her husband but he did not believe her. He even suggested that she go see a therapist to solve her problem. Claire comes to the realization that it is not her but the house that is haunting her. Claire grabs her two children and Alex and rush out of the house. Claire refuses to live another day in that house. Dan is furious with her for taking the kids. He feels that he can never trust Claire again. The ending of the book was the best part. I would highly recommend it.

This was one of those books where I found the quietest place in my house and hoped my family could fend for themselves because I don't want to put it down. I love me a good dark, twisty, horror/psychological thriller and this one didn't disappoint. From page one I was hooked and while I had a good idea of where the story was headed the entire time, I was okay with that. Anything more would have caused serious heart damage from an anxiety attack. This is the first book I've read from this author and I'm excited to delve into his other works. This book also reaffirmed my decision that becoming friendly with your neighbors only leads to heartache--or demons.

I was lucky to receive an ARC from the author and got to read this super awesome book before it's actually live. So here is my honest review:
This was such an awesome read!!! I do have to admit that I was a bit scared in a few parts of the story and reading at night does not help. The story is very descriptive and tells you many little details that make your hairs stand up. With every weird thing that happened in the house I would stop and look around my bedroom, but I do have to admit that it is fun being scared, it is good that the story actually gives you the emotions it did.
***SPOILERS***
I'll tell you a little about the story without revealing too much and spoiling the story for you. The story is about a family that is looking to buy a new house, it is a family of 5 and they are just school teachers so they don't have a lot of money. They eventually find the perfect house, or is it really perfect?
The neighbors seem to be super friendly and it looks like a great neighborhood. They move in and soon after one of the main characters (Claire) starts noticing strange things. Little things here and there that were out of place, like for example her grandmothers antique rocking chair, she will find it in a different spot or she would noticed the door was open when she was sure she closed it. At one point something super scary happens (she sees something) and I gotta say that was the scariest part on the whole book, you might have trouble sleeping after reading that part. She didn't have such a great relationship with her stepdaughter who is 12 but eventually because of the things that happened on the house she bonds with Alex and they talk about the things happening around the house. Many creepy things happened to Alex and that conversation was one of the parts that really gets you thinking about all the weird stuff and it makes you believe there was something else going on...
The relationship between Claire and Dan was so good, I loved them together, it was very romantic and believable.
One of my favorite parts on the story is when the author mentions the Carpenter vampires, if you have read his other books then you know that they are from Snipe Hunt and I loved that it was mentioned in this story as well.
There is a twist at the end and for some reason the ending made me really sad. But it was a very good ending and I would say it was very unexpected.
I have read this authors books before so I knew I liked his writing style and I also knew I was not going to be disappointed.
If you want to read something that will make you think, might make you scared and something that will give you different emotions then this is the book for you. Read it, you won't be disappointed!

I received a free ecopy of this book for an honest review. I was happy to read and review this book for Wade since I’d read Snipe Hunt and really enjoyed it.

Covenant is part horror but mostly a psychological thriller. It is a fast, easy read and kept my interest for the most part although it did get a little slow at times.

Poor Claire! She and her husband, Dan, find a house that they love at a price that they can afford. It’s too good to be true. After living there for a short time, Claire thinks that there’s something wrong with her because of nightmares and seeing things that aren’t there (or are they?). She even goes to a therapist for help. When she eventually comes to realize it’s the house and not her, she’s relieved but scared. And, sadly, her husband still thinks she’s crazy and is not supportive at all.

While I felt sorry for Claire, I felt like Dan was a jerk even though he reacted like many spouses probably would. That didn’t help me like him any more, however. Claire’s stepdaughter, Alex, played a big part in the story and even though she and Claire had their issues, I liked her from the start.

The ending of Covenant was the best part of the book. Until the end, it was pretty predictable and I like surprises. I finally got my surprises! That’s all I’m going to say due to spoilers.

If you like psychological thrillers, I recommend Covenant.

I enjoyed the story-line here very much. There were a few parts that were a little slower, but there is enough mystery to keep you interested. There are some interesting character's and an underlying story with-in the story. The relationship between Claire and her step-daughter is more of a tolerate the other person in the room kind of relationship. And after the family starts growing they need to make a change and start off in search of their new home. After looking at a few houses they start to become worried that they will not be able to afford anything. BUT wait there is just one more house the Realtor wants them to check out... and as they do they just figure this one will be too much as well. Starting to see the desperation in Claire's eyes when she says make the owner an offer how can they refuse? And to there astonishment it is accepted.

Once settled Claire starts to find things are not always what they seem...

But is it all in her head? Or is something else going on here?

The twists will keep you guessing as to what is really going on and the ending was a little surprising. Overall it was a great read.

This began as a very good story that drew me in with getting to know the family, and then the neighbors. It all rather crashed like a car wreck in the last chapter and epilogue. The last chapter felt like I was being so rushed to the ending that I felt like the characters were not being given a chance to be themselves.

The epilogue was such an afterthought I wish it had not been there at all. If Claire had died for her daughter, that would have been a much better ending.

I also disliked the absolute disbelief of the husband. The couple are drawn as being very much in love, they created two children together, and are practically still on their honeymoon. Claire begins to see things, sleepwalk, and have nightmares. Her husband does not even give her the benefit of the doubt. He only seems to love her as long as she is perfect, does her job, takes care of the kids, cooks dinner, and then is a wanton in bed when he wants her. Alex, Claire, and Melinda were 3-dimensional, the husband was not.

Wade Joseph Lefevre had me searching cracks and corners for things that go boo in the night! I have read more then I can count books on paranormal- vampires..witches..wolfs..etc... but this was actually my first read on a haunting if that's the proper word for a malevolent spirit awakened from a sacrifice but not completely free.

Covenant held my interest through out the entire book and I enjoyed it very much and it will definitely be a story I will read again many times.

I don't know that I really liked this book. It had promise but something was missing for me. I wanted it to be scarier and I wanted a better ending. It just feels like nothing was really resolved. What happened to Alex? I wanted more from Covenant.

Just another Rosemarys Baby

For the first half of the book I thought I was rereading Rosemarys Baby. Then it went completely in a different direction, sort of. Not what I would consider a good 1st shot at writing good horror.

Not bad

It was generally a good read but there are lots of holes in the story that leaves you a little confused.
