Legacy of Desire

Rate this book
The legacy continues…

It’s a gritty new world.

Three decades after the events of REAPER, the world is a different place. The secret is out. The existence of demons, vampires, shapeshifters, and angels has been revealed, and humans are struggling to adapt. Out of the chaos, The Aegis has risen to global power on the promise of containing or exterminating all underworlders, even if that means ushering in the End of Days.

Standing in their way is the next generation of warriors, the children of demons and angels and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

See how they become legends in their own right.

Legacy of Desire

Scotland, daughter of the Horseman of the Apocalypse known as War and a formidable warrior in her own right, has dedicated her life to fighting evil with her two demon best friends, Mace and Blade. Their extraordinary bond and uncanny ability to operate in perfect unison has made them legends as special operators with the Demonic Activity Response Team.

Afraid of ruining a good thing, the three teammates swore a pact to protect their friendship by declaring romantic involvement off-limits. But a recent near-tragedy changed things, and it’s getting harder for Mace and Blade to ignore their long suppressed feelings for Scotty. Especially after she announced her intention of losing her virginity and enlisted their help to find the right guy for the task.

So when a routine assignment goes wrong, landing one teammate in the hospital and the other in Scotty’s arms, the fallout puts their team, their reputations, and complete innocents, at risk. Scotty will need to make a choice, but how can she possibly decide between two males she loves equally? All the while, an enemy lurks in the shadows, poised to strike, and an angel finds himself at a crossroads that will test his faith and, perhaps, determine the very future of Heaven and all mankind.

Larissa Ione continues to remind me why she’s one of my favorite paranormal romance authors. The Demonica world has been one of my favorites for years, so every time I return to this series it honestly feels like coming home.

Legacy of Desire was one of my most anticipated books in the Demonica Birthright series, especially after finding out the romance would center around Scotty, Mace, and Blade. I was really curious to see how Larissa would handle the relationship between the three of them, and I ended up really enjoying the way their longtime friendship slowly developed into something deeper. Their bond already felt strong from the previous books, so the emotional connection between them felt believable and natural.

One of my favorite parts of this series is honestly just spending time with these characters. I’ve spent so many hours with the Demonica world over the years that the characters feel very familiar and comforting to me at this point, and that connection makes every new installment even more enjoyable. I also loved seeing progress in some of the side plots that have been building throughout the series. I was fully invested in everything that was happening.

I also liked the balance in this book. There was enough action, humor, romance, and emotional moments to keep things engaging throughout. Some scenes definitely hit emotionally, which made me even more invested in the characters and their relationships.

While this wasn’t my favorite book in the series, I still thought it was a solid addition overall. The story kept me engaged, the romance worked for me, and I enjoyed being back in this world again.

Even though this book can be read as a standalone, I definitely think it’s more enjoyable when read in order because of the ongoing character arcs and relationships.

The author’s long history in paranormal romance really shows through the way the world and characters continue to evolve with each new installment. Each book stands on its own, but the series is far more rewarding in order. Since it spins off from Demonica and Lords of Deliverance, new readers may miss a few callbacks and returning characters.

Scotland, Blade and Mace have been friends since forever. They also made a pact to not break their friendship with intimacy. Scotty is easily one of the strongest characters in the book. As the daughter of a Horseman of the Apocalypse, she’s tough, stubborn, and easy to root for. Blade and Mace, both Seminus demons, bring plenty of emotional tension, and their bond with Scotty and each other makes the relationship dynamic even more compelling. Things happen and their relationships changes…for the better.

While their story is the main focus, there’s another storyline that is slowly building and that will also hold your interest.

Legacy of Desire is a fast paced easy read and at the end you’ll be wanting the next book STAT.

Legacy of Desire is book 3 in the Demonica Birthright series, and another enjoyable read. As I've said before I don't think this is a good series to read as a standalone. There are so many characters involved that if you haven't been following along you may not get the full experience of the overall series. This book is about Scotland who is Ares daughter, Blade the son of Shade and Mace the son of Wraith/Lore. These three have been best friends since they were little and as they grew up the boys started to work for DART as a team then Scotty finally joined them. They made a great team and had a tight special friendship that they made a pact not to destroy what they had by sleeping together. So now Scotty is 30 and ready to lose her virginity and ask the guys for help finding someone. Unfortunately, this causes both guys to struggle with someone else being with her. While Scotty doesn't want anyone else but her best friends, she knows that she would never be able to choose just one of them and it's time for her to move on. Everything changes for the trio when on a mission gone wrong and she sleeps with one of them. This causes a fracture in their relationship, so she decides to sleep with the other. Overall, I'm loving this series. I have always loved next generation books and Ms. Ione is doing a great job. My only issue is that I really didn't feel the romance in the trio. Their friendship and love for each other absolutely but the romance I feel was lacking for me. Up next is Gabriel and Raika, Azagoth's daughter and I can't wait.

Scotty, Mace, and Blade have been best friends and teammates since childhood, their families close and growing up together. Their team is legendary for how in sync the three are together, kicking ass and always getting the job done.
They’ve been able to keep this flow together all these years because of one simple yet important agreement. No-one makes any romantic or sexual notions, and they promise to be purely platonic. Which is difficult considering there’s two Incubi in the mix.

After a near death scare, emotions start running high and the denial gets harder to ignore. Scotty asks for the guys' help in finding a decent male and rid herself of her innocence. Then, a mission goes sideways, causing a literal rift in the team, and decisions with consequences need to be made between both Blade and Mace.
Before they know it, nothing will ever be the same again. It's either all in or lose everything.

The third book in the new series, this one is a MFM, something new to the author. With the Seminus species being a one mate breed, this makes for an extra interesting dynamic between the trio. Brings a meaning to fated mates.

Very much a slow burn. That'd probably be my only gripe, albeit a small one. Considering that two of the three are incubi and the third is part succubus, and with how spicy the series has been, there wasn't much smut itself, and it was mostly towards the end.

Rath is growing into such a fine young Ramreel! He's gunna be such an honourable older brother and man.
Skoll was a nice surprise and mention of his lineage, I hope we see more of him. Dare was also a nice little throwback kid surprise.
Gabriel's story is going to be so good! I'm anticipating lots of forbidden fruits and angst over it all.

As always, I can't wait for the next entry into this series! Its always like coming home to these characters and becoming a part of their world.

Thank you to the author and BlueBox Press for this advanced copy!

I hadn’t read any of the previous books and I don’t feel that diminished my experience reading this in any way. There were a lot of names and world building terminology thrown around, which was hard to remember at times, but not so overwhelming that it took away from my enjoyment. I loved the action and family relationships in this. I especially loved the dynamic between Scotty, Blade, and Mace. Their friendship and tension was well done and I loved how the relationship ended up. Overall, this was very entertaining and fun.

“Someday, you’re going to face an impossible decision. There will be no winner if you choose. So let fate make the choice.”

In Legacy of Desire, the main focus is on Scotland ('Scotty', half-human, quarter angel and a quarter succubus, daughter of Ares - the Horseman of War), Mace (seminus demon, son of Lore and Idess, biologically Wraith; book: Ecstasy Unveiled) and Blade (seminus demon, son of Shade and Runa; book: Desire Unchained). These three have known each other since childhood and work as a team for DART. Years ago, to preserve their friendship and team, they made a pact to never have sex. That was easy-ish for quite a while, but when Blade finds himself in a life or death situation on a mission, Scotty is the only one there to help (read: he needs sex or he'll die).

The consequences lead to tension between the once extremely cohesive team and the cousins, who have both fallen for Scotty. Kynan, their boss, sends them to Ares for training (read: ass-kicking) after a failed mission. The boys are lucky Ares didn't know why he had the honor of kicking their asses back into teamwork-makes-the-dream-work shape, but it does the job.

Larissa does a great job of sprinkling in need-to-know tidbits from the OG series 'Demonica' throughout, so those who started with 'Demonica Birthright' aren't lost. But, if you enjoy the stories of the children of this world, I'd recommend reading the series from the start and learning how it all began and the full arc of the battle the kids have been raised to fight (book #1: Pleasure Unbound); you won't be sorry.

I'm very excited for Gabriel's book, which is up next, "The Demonica Birthright series will continue with Legacy of Gabriel."

Four and a half
I loved the original Demonica series and the Horsemen books too so was absolutely delighted that the author found a way to continue with the next generation . This did give me slight pause though as I seem to think that the romance here is between cousins ?
Yeah Scotty, Blade and Mace have always known that their relationship/friendship was too important to let romantic feelings get in the way . However recently they nearly lost Scotty and that plus her sudden desire to find a male has made both Blade and Mace sit up and really take notice !
I thought the way that the author presented the romance in this book was tastefully done in that yes we have three partners physically but the guys love Scotty and don’t particularly have an attraction to each other . So more MFM and less MMF if that makes sense ? However you look at it though it is clear to me that the occasional glimpse of a certain Archangel and what is happening in heaven is very interesting and obviously setting up for a glorious showdown at some point . Plus we get to see characters from previous books and I for one want to squeal like a total fan girl ! As I previously stated I love this whole world that has been created and already I want more !

much more plot and storyline and much less smut than i was expecting!! the description and the beginning of the book make you think the main focus of this book will be the spice but there are really only a few explicit scenes with lots of yearning. scotty, blade and mace were so complex and real to me, i was super satisfied with the ending!

while this is a standalone romance, the plot and storyline pick up where the last book left off and there are a ton of characters to keep track of so definitely read these in order if you can! i wish i had because the magic system and the different species mixes everyone was and their lineage confused me at times.

the narrators did great! thank you netgalley for the arc.

Note to self: skip this one. Blade was unbearable in the last book. Based on the synopsis, this could turn in to a massive love triangle or a MFM book, which is kind of incesty since the MMCs are cousins.

Here is a preview from the last book:

Scotty jammed her fists onto her hips again. “What’s the matter? You owe me. I’ve hooked you guys up with a million females. You both did my friend Marie. Once you even did her at the same time. She said it was the best night of her life.”

And she knew right then, for better or worse, nothing would ever be the same between them again.

The way I have been anticipating this book. Admittedly, this was as much for the romance as it was for my hope of Blade and Stryke being able to repair their brotherly relationship. After getting his much deserved HEA in Legacy of Temptation, Stryke's relationship with Blade was mostly unresolved. And I was so happy for the moments they got in this book. But I digress.

This is a not a book I recommend reading out of order. And if you want maximum enjoyment, you'll want to start with the Demonica series. But at the very least, you'll definitely want to read Demonica Birthright in order because while each couple gets a HEA in each book, the story ARC continues throughout the series.

This is the story of Blade (Shade's son from Desire Unchained), Scotland (the daughter of War from Eternal Rider), and Mace (son of Wraith from Passion Unleashed). And yes, you read that right, this is an MFM.

If you love the friends to lovers trope, you will gobble this one up. For me, it's a take or it leave it trope, but it definitely worked for me here. Blade, Mace and Scotty have been friends for basically their entire lives and part of the same special ops team for DART (Demonic Activity Response Team). Years ago they made a pact to protect their friendship from any feelings that may enter the picture. So each of them has spent the last few years dutifully suppressing the chemistry between them. This takes a bit of a turn when Scotty asks them for help to find a male to lose her pesky virginity to. Suffice it to say, they struggle HARD. And I mean, HARD. *waggles brows*

There are a few additional POVs sprinkled into the story, like Gabriel (who we are finally getting a story for). And of course we get a lot more Lilith being a demonic menace as they all work to find Harverster's grace to bring her back. There' a lot of story packed into this book and at times the romance took a bit of a backseat. While the yearning and pining was there, I wasn't as enraptured in the romance as I was in the previous two books. I enjoyed them, but I wanted a bit more sizzle for an MFM. And while we get some spice, it's mostly Scotty and Mace and then Scotty and Blade. I wanted more than one scene with them together to really click with the MFM mating.

The story itself was addictive in a way that only Larissa can write. I absolutely love her world building and the way that all my favorite characters continue to make the best cameos. The romance, while it wasn't my favorite in the series, was still great. And the set up for the next book is absolutely delicious! I love the way that Larissa gives you a satisfying ending while still leaving you begging for more. I can't wait for Gabrielle's book!

The third book in the Demonica Birthright series, this book continues one of my all-time favourite paranormal series in a m/f/m romance full of action, excitement, challenging family dynamics, and wicked chemistry. I loved being back in this world!

A second-gen story from the original Demonica/Lords of Deliverance series, this book features
• Scotland (Scotty) – daughter of Ares and Cara
• Blade – son of Shade and Runa
• Mace – son of Lore and Idess (biological son of Wraith)

Scotty, Blade and Mace are an in-demand team working for the Demonic Activity Response Team. They have been the closest of friends since childhood, and their tight bond has made them near invincible in the field. Years ago, they made a pact to keep their friendship strictly platonic, and they’ve stuck to that arrangement, despite the fact that there is a lot of love between them and they’re all secretly (or not-so-secretly) attracted to each other.

Why were the two males she couldn’t have…the only ones who made her feel something she’d never felt before?

Larissa Ione writes the most fantastic characters and character dynamics, and I loved getting to know this trio. They’re all so different, but they gel so well together, and I could feel the closeness between them. I love their close friendship, and I love that there are already strong feelings between them, which adds a great sense of expectation to every interaction. And when a mission goes wrong, everything changes.

Mace was afraid to ask. But he had to.
“What’s really going on, Blade?”
Blade lifted his gaze to Mace’s, his dark eyes troubled. “I want her, Mace.”…
“I know,” he said. “So do I.”

I must admit, I was surprised at the way this story unfolded. I was a bit unsure while it was happening, but looking back, it makes sense to the story and shows the intimacy and depth of feeling between the three of them. The relationship is m/f/m, Blade and Mace are not together, and it’s more of a share situation than a threesome, and while there is sexy time, there’s not as much as I thought – though what is there is emotional as well as steamy, and meaningful to the characters and their story. And though it’s a tricky situation for them to navigate, their openness and honesty with each other is gorgeous to see.

“Guys?” she said softly. “I love you. I don’t think I can separate who I am from who we are together.”

In a world where characters are bonded to their mates, I was curious how this would play out, and the resolution is really well done. You can feel the love between them all, and I was happy with the way they found their happy ending.

As a long-time mad fan of the series, I was thrilled see so much of the characters that I love – especially those that we get to see in the role of parents (and even grandparents!), which is always lots of fun. We get to check in with pretty much all of the other second-gen characters, and there are some very intriguing dynamics going on there. We catch up with the couples from the previous books, and see some progression for them, and in exciting developments, there are some potential set-ups happening for future books, and I am on board for all of it!

And maybe most interestingly of all, there is side story happening Gabriel – former archangel who has now been kicked out of heaven. There’s a lead-in to an enemies-to-lovers situation happening with Raika (supremely badass daughter of Azagoth), and it looks like they will be the focus for the next book and I cannot freaking wait!

I dropped everything when this book appeared on my kindle and loved being back in this world. This book is funny, sexy, action-packed and romantic with lots of twists and turns, and it’s such an entertaining read.

4 stars.

5 - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“If it makes you feel any better, my knuckles hurt. You have a hard face.”

Legacy of Desire is the third instalment in the adult paranormal romance series, Demonica Birthright. This is a spin off to the Demonica series and takes place about 30 years after the events of that series and follows the next generation. Written in multi third person POV the story follows Scotland, Mace and Blade as they find their friendship being tested when a near death experience hunting a mythical being sends them spiralling into blurring the lines between them. Yet they need to figure out things fast as something insidious haunts the shadows and threatens everything they know...

I ATE this up! We got a throuple and I am in love!

Scotland is the daughter of Ares, one of the horsemen of the apocalypse (War) and she has spent years yearning for both her friends but unable to do anything after they made a pact to never ruin the friendship by crossing boundaries. I loved the connection she had with both males and the comfortability that it came with. Scotty is also strong and tenacious and I found her strength helped her persevere and fight for the ones she cares about.

Mace is a Seminus demon (a form of incubi) and the son of Idess and Lore (bio dad is Wraith). He can be a bit impulsive but when he cares for someone he is all in. I liked how we got to explore his relationships with his dads, his half brother/cousin and the ways in which in connection with Scotland and Blade shake things up.

Blade is also a Seminus demon and Mace's cousin. His parents are Runa and Shade. We get to explore more around his relationship with his brothers which I really liked because of how this series started. He has it down bad for Scotty and struggles to hold back but his care for Mace means he often fights himself because their friendship means so much to him. There is a bit of a martyr complex here.

“...When I know I want something, I want it all, and I want it now.”

In terms of spice I would place this book at 3.5 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. There are about 3 spicy scenes with the first appearing around the 39% mark (there is a slightly steamy moment about 10% before that. The spice is explicit and detailed and does involve some blood play and the male are incubi so they have special perks. The final spicy scene involves multiple people and double penetration. What I loved about the spice was that these are characters who are truly in love and have history so it means something even when they try to say it will only happen once. There is intimacy because they know each other. There is also a biological imperative as they are unable to fight the connection and the need. I felt it was really well done!

The story itself has a core story around Scotty, Mace, and Blade and them having to decide what will they be but there is also additional stories to unpack around the wingless archangel Gabriel and Raika, Lilith causing mayhem, Harvester and her grace, and the isolation of hell and heaven. I liked how these tease us for upcoming stories in the future because that epilogue has me feral for one in particular. There is an investigation story around Wendigos that helps keep things moving along as we move between the different events. We get plenty of action, twists and turns, and expect torture and references to assault. Cameos from previous books are a wonderful addition! Some elements of the story I did expect and some I spent the whole book waiting for and I was so excited for the outcome. There is a good balance of angst and tension where our characters grapple with deciding what they will do with their relationship as there is no turning back as much as they wish. I truly had so much fun diving into this book and it let me have to go reread Wraith's book!

Overall, the Demonica Birthright series continues to ensure I am utterly obsessed with the Demonica world!

Thank you Blue Box Press for this arc!

Series: Demonica Birthright #3
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Scotland, daughter of the Horseman of the Apocalypse War (Eternal Rider), is a formidable warrior in her own right. She has dedicated her life to fighting evil with her two best friends, Mace and Blade. They make up one of the most sought after teams in the Demonica Activity Response Team (DART) unit. Afraid of ruining their friendship, they swore a pack to protect it by declaring no romantic involvement between them, even if they are all secretly lusting after each other.

Like I said in the previous books in this series, I really love how this spin-off is expanding the Demonica world but also making it feel like it's a completely different series. It's been over 30 years since the events in the previous series, and the world is both the same but also a lot different since the world now knows that demons are real. With each book, we learn more about the consequences that have occurred from previous couples actions, and are learning all kinds of new information about the changes in Heaven and the demon realms.

Scotty, Mace and Blade were a great team and you could tell from the beginning that they all secretly were lusting for each other. Scotty has wanted both of them from the beginning but their packed on the first day nixed that in the bud. But now that she is 30 she has decided to actively start looking for someone to be with, and neither Blade or Mace like it even if they won’t admit it. I liked Scotty for the most part. She really is her fathers daughter but I also liked that he doesn’t go easy on her at all because of it.

Blade, son of Shade and Runa (Desire Unchained), was the most reserved of the three. He is a bit grumpy and quiet, but we see how much he cares for Scotty, and for Mace. Mace, son of Lore and Idess (Ecstasy Unveiled), is very outgoing compared to Blade but we also see that he hides his feelings of not being accepted by his blood brother (Talon) and doesn’t like conflict between family. I liked both of these guys and how they didn’t treat Scotty differently once she joined their team, at least until their training with Ares, but that was very brief.

I will admit, I wasn’t surprised by how things played out in this one. Shit happens and she ends up sleeping with one, so of course it causes issues between them and it leads her to trying to even the score by sleeping with the other. While this isn’t usually how I like relationships to form, especially between a triad, I actually didn’t mind any of this because they talked it out as adults and agreed to certain things beforehand. Their relationship together is right at the end of this book though so we don’t really get to see them being a triad together, which was a bit of a bummer. I was wanting to see them continuing to work as a team, but also being a couple. Hopefully the next book will provide that.

While I did enjoy the relationship in this one, I felt like the overall story arc that has been building since book one didn’t really progress a lot. But, there were a few very important things that happened in this one that were important to figuring out who was behind certain things, and what is going on with Heaven.

Overall, this was another enjoyable book for the series. Scotty, Blade, and Mace were great characters and great friends who I enjoyed finally admitting their feelings and getting their HEA. I am very interested in reading the next book to see what happens next, especially with Gabriel since it seems like his book might be next.

Scotland, Scotty for short, is the youngest daughter of Ares – one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. She and her two friends, Mace and Blade, make up DART’s top-performing team. When Scotty decides it is time to lose her virginity, she asks the two to help her find the perfect candidate. Their latest mission goes disastrously wrong and upsets the trio’s dynamics. Which one will Scotty ultimately choose? Or will she allow Fate to take the decision off her hands?

Blade is one of three siblings born to Shade and Runa – a seminus demon and a werewolf Mace is the only child of Lore and Idess, a seminus/human hybrid and earthbound angel. Scotty, Blade, and Mace have pledged not to pursue romantic relationships among themselves. However, both men have harbored feelings for Scotty for years. An incident during their latest mission disrupts their tight bond, and it sparks conflict between Mace and Blade. Can Blade and Mace find a way to resolve their differences?

I am on the fence when it comes to Scotty. There are things that I both liked and disliked about her. I like that Scotty took more after her father when it comes to combative skills. She can handle herself without needing a male to come to her aid or rescue her. Scotty’s attitude did grate on my nerves now and then.

Out of the three, Mace is the one who annoyed me the most. He was too much a jerk. I do not remember ever feeling this way towards Wraith, whom Mace takes after in attitude. However, I do like that he has a relationship with both Wraith and Lore. I empathized more with Blade. His family has endured a lot of traumas over the years. I love that Blade and Stryker finally resolved their differences at the end.

LEGACY OF DESIRE is the third installment in Larissa Ione’s dark paranormal romance series, DEMONICA BIRTHRIGHT. It is a sequel to the author’s popular DEMONICA and LORDS OF DELIVERANCE books. This series follows the next generation – the children of the couples from the prior two series. I encourage new readers to start there before delving into this one. Reoccurring characters make frequent appearances throughout the book. Plus, it allows them to understand the state of the world, and how it got to that point.

I admit that I had reservations going into this book. Mostly, I feared that it would be a love triangle. And I cannot stand those. The ones I root for RARELY get chosen. I suspected halfway through it would end up being a three-way relationship (MFM). That type of pairing is not a favorite of mine, but one I could accept.

The pairings I am most looking forward to are Amber and Talon and Sabre and Aleka. I do hope Rade gets a book. For some reason, he caught my attention (and empathy). I want to know more about him, and I want him to have a happily-ever-after. Also, I want a book with Dare, Hades and Cat’s son. So many of the next generation I want to have their happily-ever-afters!

Legacy of Desire, the third book in the Demonica Birthright series, delivers an action-packed blend of paranormal romance and suspense centred around Scotland, daughter of War, one of the legendary Four Horsemen. From an early age, Scotty was determined to forge her own path as a warrior in her own right so, as soon as she was old enough, she joined DART, the Demonic Activity Response Team. Fighting alongside her best friends, Mace and Blade, she became part of a formidable trio with an impressive reputation to match, the kind built on the instinct and trust that only comes from years of friendship. The agreement that their relationship would remain strictly platonic has never been an issue in the past, but that pact is put to the test when Scotty decides she is ready to lose her virginity and asks her two friends to help her find someone worthy of the task reasoning that, as Seminus demons, they would know exactly what she needs. What starts as an innocent enough request quickly forces both Mace and Blade to confront feelings they have clearly been avoiding, and the shift in dynamics between the three creates tension both emotionally and professionally and suddenly their once-solid friendship begins to fracture. When a mission leaves one of them hospitalised and the other stranded alone with Scotty, the dynamic between the trio changes in ways that may be impossible to reverse.

One of the strongest aspects of this series continues to be the world-building. The mythology is detailed and intricate, with a diverse cast of characters and a well-developed supernatural world that feels both expansive and strangely believable. Even though paranormal romantic suspense is not usually my go-to genre, Scotty, Blade, and Mace’s story completely pulled me in from the very beginning. The combination of fast-paced action, emotional conflict, and an engaging love triangle kept the pages turning. Scotty was easily my favourite character, fearless, determined, and very much the kind of person who throws herself fully into danger, which is perhaps easier to do when immortality is on your side. I did find Blade and Mace frustrating at times, particularly because they only seemed to recognise their changing feelings for Scotty once she started showing an interest in other men. Worse still, placing the responsibility of choosing between them entirely on her felt unfair, especially when it was obvious that no matter what she decided, their friendship would never be the same again. The fallout added plenty of emotional drama while also impacting their ability to work together effectively during missions.

Overall, Legacy of Desire was an entertaining and addictive read, fast-paced and filled with danger, intrigue, romance, and plenty of emotional tension and I can’t wait for the next book in this fantastic series.

We were all disappointed when we had to wait for this book. Of course, we understood sometimes life sticks its nose into book business. The good news is that it was well worth the wait. I so loved it. I always enjoy the books I read by Ione, but this one is a five-star romance for me. I don't give them out lightly. I have only given out less than 50 in over 40+ years of reading. Happily, I've given her two five-star reviews. The other one was for Reaper. I loved that one.

You'll enjoy how she handles the relationship between Mace, Blade and Scotty. The three of them have a very tight friendship and the also love each other. That they have trouble dealing with. Sure, they love each other as family, but they also love each other as want to be mates. That one is a bit harder to deal with.

The author handles it really well. She intertwines their stories and has you voting for both the guys to come out on top. Both Blade and Mace are very likeable heroes. You don't want to see either of them hurt. I know I wanted them both to get the girl. Sadly, for them there is only one girl.

While dealing with their inner turmoil they also have demons to kill and people to save. Not easy to do with emotions are running wild.

This is a great story that will leave you wanting more and wishing that the next book would be out already. I hate that I'll have to wait a bit for it but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. I read some of it at the end of this book and was like, wait, I have to wait for this? Then I dropped to my knees (not happening because I wouldn't be able to get up again) and screamed out NO!

If this isn't an author that you've read before make sure to go back to the beginning and start with the very first book that started it all. I promise it's worth it.

Legacy of Desire absolutely wrecked me in the best possible way. Emotionally bruised, mildly feral, spiritually exhausted… and already prepared to reread it. Classic Larissa Ione behavior, honestly.

At this point, giving this book five stars feels less like a rating and more like maintaining a long-standing contractual obligation with my nervous system. Because once again, Larissa Ione proves that the Demonica Universe is incapable of becoming stale. Every new installment somehow expands the mythology, deepens the emotional damage, and raises the stakes of the eternal celestial mess between Heaven and Hell.

This time, Blade and Mace take center stage alongside the ever-wonderful Scotty, daughter of Ares ( better known as War). Which means peace, emotional stability, and sensible decisions were obviously never on the menu. The dynamic between them is intense, chaotic, addictive, and layered with enough emotional tension to power a small country.

Brutal pacing. In the best way. Multi-POV storytelling, high emotional stakes, action, heartbreak, loyalty, desire, family bonds, apocalypse-level drama… everything moves with that unmistakable Ione style that grabs you by the throat and politely refuses to let go until the final page.

Some longtime Demonica readers may clutch their pearls a little because Legacy of Desire definitely pushes beyond Larissa Ione’s usual comfort zone. But honestly? Good. The risk pays off spectacularly. The story feels bold, unapologetic, and epic in a way that reminds you why this universe still stands miles above so many paranormal romance series after all these years.

What I particularly love is how interconnected everything remains. Returning characters never feel like fan service. The overall mythology continues evolving, adding new shades and complications to the war between Heaven and Hell while keeping the emotional core firmly grounded in this wonderfully dysfunctional found family we’ve all become attached to over the years.

And that cliffhanger? Excuse me, ma’am. Absolutely illegal.

So here I am now, clutching my teacup like it contains emotional support instead of caffeine, impatiently waiting for the next Legacies announcement while trying to recover from the glorious chaos this book put me through.

I read the Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series and loved it, so I was really looking forward to reading this book as well as the others in this series since this contains some of the kids of the characters from those series. This sounded like it would be fun and I was right. This is the 3rd book in this series, and I did read the first book, Legacy of Temptation but I still need to read the 2nd book.

Scotty, Blade and Mace are friends, and this book is about them. They grew up together and all wanted to be a part of DART. I liked getting a bit of a backstory as to how they became friends and what's been going on since the last book in the Demonica series I read. It was nice seeing some of the old characters as well.

As with most of Larissa Ione's books, this has quite a bit of action and romance and I expected that, but it also has a lot of world building into what's going on in this world now. They are a part of DART which is the Demonic Activity Response Team.

Because demons were set free years ago, there's a chance that the horsemen's mother, Lilith was also free and if that were the case, the offspring of the horsemen were in danger. Mother dearest was not maternal at all and would want her children to suffer.

Scotty and some others were searching for Harvester's blood so they could bring back her grandma. There was a lot going on with this and a lot of secrets were revealed as the story unfolded as to what happened to Harvester.

But when the 3 of them get sent on a mission to hunt down a Wendigo, things don't go as planned. And the three of them will never be the same. Between the angels, demons, and trying to bring Harvester back from the dead, there's so much going on. Mace, Scotty and Blade have to find a way to get through what is happening between them and fix things but they have no idea how to do that.

Having read the Lords of Deliverance series and getting to know the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, it was fun to see their kids getting their own stories.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Book three in the Demonica Birthright series, Legacy of Desire continues one of the longest paranormal series I have ever consumed. As always, I do recommend reading a series in order to get the most out of it, but each of these installments can be read as a standalone in an interconnected world. This series is a spin off of the original Demonica/Lords of Deliverance series, so if you haven't read them these characters won’t be familiar.

Desire focuses on the story of Scotland (Scotty), Blade and Mace. These three work as a team together, and do it very well as they have known each other for most of their lives. The three of them are all very much in love with the other (the three of them) but do to a promise they made years ago to keep their friendship….well friends, none of them are willing to risk more. As they face down hunting a mythical being more and more dangerous situations develop that has the three of them pushing the promise they all agree on.

Scotty is a kick in the pants, as the daughter of one of the horsemen of the apocalypse she has always shown her strength and stubbornness in everything she does. Blade and Mace are both seminus demons and have their own baggage they have to overcome, but each of them have such a strong bond with not only one another but with Scotty as well. Their biology plays a key in this as well though.

Overall the book is good, fast paced and easy to keep up with. This author has been writing paranormal for years and as a long time reader I love how her stories and characters evolve over time, there is always something new added to the world. Scotty, Mace and Blade each have different things they work through throughout the storyline, and with the additions of the spicy scenes the trio really make for a good read. I hope to see more in the series for sure, there are characters that I would love to see develop their stories still.

Larissa Ione obliterates the status quo of the fantasy genre by charting her own path with the Demonica universe.

Legacy of Desire is not necessarily a Why Choose? but more of a Can’t Choose. This is a tough story filled with heart wrenching angst and it was a battle to get through. Scotty, Mace, and Blade have been inseparable since they were kids and they’ve only managed to grow closer as adults. Their working relationship takes a huge hit when uncomfortable feelings start to surface and choices are made that do irreparable damage. Like I said, heart wrenching.

I really felt for Mace in the book. Not only is he struggling with his feelings for Scotty and Blade’s perceived betrayal, he’s also battling some serious family trauma. The poor guy can’t catch a break. But Mace isn’t the only one with family trouble, Blade and Scotty both face personal battles with their families, and within themselves. Their struggles are real, their heartache is relatable, and their resilience is admirable.

We’ve got relationship troubles, family drama, and loads of other surprise character appearances and storylines that will shock-and-awe the hell out of readers.

As we move closer and closer to Satan’s release from his prison which will most likely kick off the next apocalypse, Heavenly and demonic forces are wheeling and dealing behind–and in front of–the scenes to either prevent it from happening, or usher it in with pomp and circumstance.

Legacy of Desire is an engaging and all-encompassing read packed full of surprises.

Make sure you keep reading after the story ends because there is a jaw-dropping excerpt from the next book! It’s a doozy!

The Demonica Universe is one of my favorite worlds to read. Every book is a meticulously wrapped gift brimming with excitement, danger, passion, humor, and thrills.

I highly recommend the entire series!

LEGACY OF DESIRE reminded me why this entire universe owns my soul. Why choose will FOREVER be my kryptonite because watching Scotty, Blade, and Mace fight their feelings while trying to protect their friendship….I was there just waiting for the bite (I mean moment😏😈)

The “we’ve loved each other forever but we’re terrified to ruin what we have” energy was 🤌🏾🤌🏾

Let’s also talk about how this series just keeps getting BETTER….how is that even possible?

I’m obsessed with this gritty next gen Demonica world where demons, angels, horsemen, and humans are all colliding in absolute chaos while DART teams are out here risking their lives every day. But Scotty…OH I LOVED HER. She’s strong, stubborn, loyal, dangerous, and emotional…literally the exact kind of FMC I ride for every single time🖤. She’s the daughter of WAR herself and she absolutely carries that energy😮‍💨⚔️

And let’s not forget about Blade + Mace….
The way both of them loved her in completely different ways while still protecting each other emotionally had me LOSING MY MIND. Literally babes…

Every touch felt loaded. Every moment mattered.
And yes…the part we all love😏THE SPICE WAS SPICING😈.

And don’t even get me STARTED on seeing old favorites pop up because every time a familiar character appeared I felt like I was being reunited with family🥹🖤

ALSO IMPORTANT QUESTION:
With the black outfit + purple shirt combo… do I officially look ready to join DART with Scotty or what?😂⚔️ Because I fully planned the purple for the cover vibes💜

If you love:
🖤 why choose romance
⚔️ paranormal chaos
🔥 best friends to lovers
🩸 demons + horsemen
😮‍💨 emotional tension
🖤 badass FMCs
🔥 protective MMCs
⚔️ found family
❤️‍🔥 “we shouldn’t do this” energy
Then this series deserves your FULL attention immediately

Thank you again @blueboxpress for the surprise package and for continuing to feed my Demonica obsession🖤

Spoilers abound for this review so read at your own risk.

I’ll be honest up front that I think this one missed the mark for me. I knew I wanted to continue the Demonica Birthright series (new world dynamics, second gen, etc.) and I was intrigued by the potential for a MFM pairing. While I do think that Scotty, Blade, and Mace all had chemistry (especially as an elite team), I feel like something was missing. In the beginning when all three were on a mission and an injury to Mace begins to blur the lines; I was all in. I was looking forward to tension, the “will they/won’t they” of all three of them. And we do have that for about 5 seconds. Their second true test of keeping their hands to themselves leads to Scotty and Blade to breaking the seal (oof that’s a bad pun, I know). But then the tension; it’s not sexual, it’s not a risk of any of them doing more. All three go immediate hands off and their dynamics in battle start falling.

Where its lacking though, I feel was TIME. I wanted weeks, months of pining and instead I think it was only days? Their initial step to bridge the gap is to have Scotty sleep with Mace so “they’re even” and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Did I love the end concept of Scotty being able to bond with both as her mate? Absolutely; this is romance, we know there will be a HEA. But I’ve seen MFM that’s teased it enough to make the reader wonder ‘what if it’s only a HEA for one?” In the end, a system of only all being together once a year to “strengthen the bond” just felt lackluster. The last book had heavy emotional change, I felt compelled to see Stryke repair relationships and work through his grief. Sadly, with these 3, I just felt uninspired. Would’ve loved more in the field dynamics too, to truly showcase their compatibility.

The thing I enjoyed most about Legacy of Desire by Larissa Ione is learning and connecting all the supernatural and paranormal worlds. Demons, vampire, Angels and so many more. And I was absolutely thrilled and enraptured while reading it. The core of the romance plot is an emotional love story between three best friends that came with heartache, emotional dilemma and slow burn goodness. There was an equally intriguing plot of mind games, power plays and secrets of supernatural worlds.

Spotty is daughter of War aka one of the four horsemen of Apocalypse and she has trained hard to be recruited in the special force of Demonic Activities Response Team..along with her two best friends Mace and Blade who are seminus demons with own great lineage. They have taken an oath to stay friends only. Blade and Mace are just demons and that means they need sex to survive and they cannot go there with Scotty. But on a mission to Alaska, things get complicated. After a brutal trap, she had to help Mace by letting him drink blood from her and later, she have sex with Blade and lose her virginity after they were trapped for days without Blade's suppressor supplements. Things have become weird. They have to make a decision.

I love how Scotty is hard and soft at the same time. She developed feelings beyond friendship years ago but Blade and Mace have made it clear that they are not putting the friendship at risk. So she is the baddest warrior with coolest fighting skills but she is also a heartsick woman watching the men having a sex fest years after years. But now things are exposed. The mission has brought out jealousy and anger and feeling of betrayal among Blade and Mace. That is jeopardising their team work and obviously their hearts. Mace is always seen as this charming witty easy going entertainer and Blade is the more intense and brooding one. They were unquestionably possessive and protective about Scotty and now their instinct to claim is fighting. How can Scotty really choose? Things are tense in their world with Lilith trying to destroy them and her grandmother aka Harvester needs to be resurrected and Sheoul Gra is still not ready and the bad demons are all over the world. But they let fate decide and it made the best decision. The tension was so high from all aspects and I was loving it.

Ps take your time to read about the supernatural dynamics

Legacy of Desire, part of the Demonica Birthright spin-off series from the original Demonica/Horsemen of the Apocalypse world, is the third installment in a truly fun and engaging continuation. This series brings us back into a familiar universe, this time focusing on the next generation—the children of the Horsemen and the beloved Seminus demons—and it’s been a great ride so far.
This story centers on Scotland (“Scotty”), daughter of Ares, who joins her best friends Blade and Mace in DART, forming a formidable demon-fighting trio. Their dynamic is strong from the start, built on deep trust and history, which makes the evolution of their relationship all the more compelling.
It becomes clear early on that this is heading into MFM territory, but the journey there is thoughtfully written. The emotional tension feels real, especially as the shift from friendship to something more begins to strain their bond. The fallout from crossed lines and the guys’ reactions adds just enough drama without overwhelming the story, testing both their loyalty and their connection.
While the central relationship is enjoyable to watch unfold, one of the standout elements for me was the inclusion of side stories; particularly those involving the Archangel Gabriel. Those moments added depth to the world and left me hoping we’ll see more of him in future books. It was also great getting little updates on favorite characters from earlier installments.
Overall, this was a satisfying and entertaining addition to the series, and I’m definitely looking forward to what comes next.

Legacy of Desire by Larissa Ione - This is a red hot read with enough action to keep me turning pages until way past my bedtime! Author Larissa Ione’s books always have the perfect amount of action woven between romantic scenes. The action plot keeps the romance from feeling rushed, and it could stand up as its own book even without the romance.

The romance was wonderful! All three of the main characters have well built backstories with promises and desires that made perfect sense for the story, and the open door bedroom scenes were well done and super hot.

One thing to keep in mind before picking up this book; all of the books sent in the Demonica world are written in mini-series. The action plot is one long arc over each individual mini-series, with each book getting its own couple and happily ever after. This mini-series “Demonica Birthright” starts with Legacy of Temptation (which is also a wonderful book), and Legacy of Desire is the third book. To get the most out of this mini-series, you should probably start with Temptation. That said, you can start in the Demonica world at the beginning of any mini-series; this one would be a great starting place.

Legacy of Desire is coming on May 12th, 2026! Thank you so much to Larissa Ione and Blue Box Press for the advanced reader’s copy!

Notes:
-Limited third person POV (all three MC’s plus side characters)
-Open door spice
-Threesome
-Mild gore
-Some blood

4.5⭐ A fast paced story that gripped me right from the start, and still hasn’t let go, long after having finished reading it. This story is action packed as good fights evil. I love how much action Larissa manages to include in her stories, with the added bonus of a great love story.

Three childhood best friends, loyal to their own, and playing their part in the battle against evil. While hunting a Wendigo, everything goes sideways. The angst was incredible. While evil was still pressing down on them, they find themselves at a crossroads. Decision made to save their friend, they knew they their world would be changed forever.

From her Demonica and Demonica Underworld, to the Four Horsemen and now Demonica Birthright, she’s created a fantastical world where demons, vampires, shapeshifters and angels live among humans. In this series, the next generation of demons, angels and of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse fight to prevent the End of Days.

Although this is a standalone story, there is a story arc that continues throughout the whole series. I don’t think it’s necessary to have read Books 1 and 2. But if you’ve read any of Larissa Ione’s series before, you know that it’s worth it to start at the beginning.

I love this series and can’t wait for the next book!!!

Thank you Larissa Ione, Blue Box Press and Netgalley for this ARC. The above is my own and personal opinion.

An exciting book to dive back into this post-apocalyptic world filled with demons and dark creatures, this time with a new story and familiar characters to follow!

The main storyline follows Scotty, the FMC who’s a part of a team helping protect the realm from the monsters that were set free, along with her two hot best friends who she can’t stop picturing herself with even though they made a pact to never let themselves be anymore than friends. When faced with the potential death of one of them on a mission the other is sidelined from, Scotty must face an impossible choice to save him and put their whole trios relationship at risk. It all comes to a head when bringing back a friend risks her immortality and she must choose between the two men she loves, or will she?

I enjoyed all the different POVs and seeing how the main three all cared for each other, and they just were too afraid to communicate their feelings. I also really loved the side storylines giving insight into what I believe will be pivotal in the next book. There were many characters back from the previous books in this world and it was fun to see where everyone is 30 years later along with this new set of characters to form an attachment to! I can’t wait to read more in this continually developing world and how the consequences of some of the events at the end of the book turn out! My rating 4.5/5!

Thanks to the author for the gifted copy, all opinions given are my own!

If you are looking for a Romantasy that leans heavily into the romance—and doesn’t shy away from the heat—Larissa Ione’s Legacy of Desire is a must-read. It’s an addictive, high-stakes addition to her demon-filled universe that manages to be both emotionally resonant and incredibly spicy.

The romance is based on the Why Choose (reverse harem) dynamic. To be honest, this is often a trope that feels forced or unbalanced, but Ione handles it masterfully here. For the first time in a long while, I truly understood the protagonist Scotty’s internal conflict. The chemistry she shares with each love interest is palpable, making her "difficulty to choose" feel earned rather than just a plot device. The steam factor is high, but it’s the emotional connection between the characters that keeps you turning the pages.

Set in a gritty, high-stakes world of angels and demons, the fantasy elements provide a solid backdrop for the interpersonal drama. This isn't just a standalone romance; it is part of a much larger, intricate tapestry.
One of the highlights of this series is how Ione rewards long-term readers. In Legacy of Desire, you get:
-Updates on favorite couples from previous installments.
-Subtle hints and "Easter eggs" regarding future pairings.
-A deep roster of side characters that you genuinely grow to love if you’ve followed the overarching narrative.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I received an advance review copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Legacy of Desire had me completely hooked. Scotty, Mace, and Blade bring a level of tension that feels constant and inevitable-the kind that sits under every scene just waiting to explode.

Scotty is strong, messy, and real in a way I loved, and the dynamic between her, Mace, and Blade is layered with loyalty, history, and so much emotional conflict. This is a why choose / MFM romance that actually delivers on both the connection and the spice.

Fast-paced, emotionally charged, and addictive from start to finish. I could not put this down.

Why 5 stars:
⭐️ The tension actually builds and pays off
⭐️ The why choose dynamic feels emotional, not just physical
⭐️ A strong but flawed FMC who feels real
⭐️ Addictive pacing with action and romance balanced perfectly
⭐️ Emotional stakes that hit just as hard as the spice

Tropes:
🔥 Why choose / MFM
⚔️ Demon hunters / paranormal romance
💥 Friends to lovers
🖤 Found family
😈 Forbidden tension
🔥 High emotional stakes

Read this if you:
📖 Love messy, emotionally intense relationships
🌶️ Want spice with real connection and buildup
⚔️ Enjoy action-packed paranormal worlds
🖤 Are obsessed with protective, loyal MMCs
🔥 Live for tension that feels like it might snap at any moment
