Committed: From the Air Force to the Anabaptists

Rate this book
A stream of bombs fell from the B52G as it sliced through the cold air, miles above Cambodia. Vince was succeeding, rising from a child in an orphanage crib to a high-ranking nuclear bomber pilot. I read this book aloud to Tim on our road trip honeymoon. It gripped us both, with its epic tale of a man's commitment and how different choices shape life for good or bad.
Darryl Derstine is an incredible writer. I had no particular fondness for airplanes and certainly no desire to ever fly one when I started this book, but by the end I found myself paying more attention to aircraft. We were also heartily entertained and inspired.

Would do 3.5 stars. It was decently interesting, but it was waaay too long. It should have been half the length.

This is an interesting read about lives quite different from my own. There were points in the book where I teared up, some places sad tears, others happy tears.

It covers some really hard subjects, but with restraint, and with respect for others.

Along the way, there's a lot of detail on flying, both civilian and military. I'm not an aviator, nor an aviation buff, but it was written so that I could get an idea of what they were saying, and it gave me a glimpse into a world I know little about.

All in all, a good book, well written, and well worth the read.

The amazing story of Vince Lewis (whom I have actually met).

Vince is a very precise and detailed person - from his house to his career. He is very successful in the airforce. But then things spiral out of control. His well planned life and marriage is in shambles. Then his wife and then he finds Jesus - the healer of all broken things.

The book is about the perfect length. It involves a lot of details about flying, but is written so that it is captivating for people who don't even have any interest in aviation.

This was an amazing memoir to read; a "wow, God" story of a man who served an earthly kingdom, involved in war and bloodshed, and was called to serve in the heavenly kingdom of Jesus, Prince of Peace.

Agree that it is so long and could actually be shorter but overall a good read. It’s a great story!
