How the Stars Fall

Rate this book
A star may fall, but her light never dies.

Nova Seraphine has spent one hundred and thirty-six years admiring Earth’s beauty from afar—until one day she falls from the heavens and crashes to its surface. But when she’s snatched up by a grumpy bounty hunter, Nova discovers Earth might not be the sanctuary it appears. Suddenly, her dreams of exploring its wonders seem foolish and she longs to return to her place among the stars.

Bounty hunter Ryker Thornbrooke has spent the last four years buried in his work to escape the pain of his fiancée’s sudden death. So when the king of Emberfell requests Ryker’s service to retrieve a magical fallen star in exchange for a hefty sum of gold, Ryker can’t refuse—despite his dislike of the greedy king. But when he lays eyes on the star, he realises she’s not just a powerful magical being … but a person. A mysterious and beautiful woman—and as he drags her back to the castle she begins to awaken feelings in him that he thought died many years ago.

Nova is now under the king's control, and it doesn’t sit well with Ryker. Acting on impulse, he stages a daring rescue and vows to help her find a way back to the heavens. On the run, as they share heated kisses and secret touches, Ryker’s hardened heart starts softening, and he begins to wonder if he can let the star go. Nova begins to question whether she wants to go home at all … Or is love worth the risk of living in hiding forever. Perhaps home is a man, who might just become her greatest love yet . . . If he will open his heart.

Based in Queensland, Australia, I write romantasy novels about courage, kindness, and the irresistible pull of love that feels both epic and real.

My stories are laced with longing, danger, and the kind of passion that burns slow before it consumes. I twist heartache, hope, and temptation into worlds that pulse with magical life, where every glance or brush of skin can change everything.

I’m endlessly inspired by flowers, everything pink, and the quiet belief that one day, my fairy wings will finally appear.

Sarah, if your intention was to turn me into an emotional, sobbing puddle on my bus ride to work, you completed the task with flying colours. Not only that, but you also have my complete gratitude and love for accomplishing that. I mean, how can I not be grateful? You've gifted me the ARC of How The Stars Fall, made me fall in love with the story and the characters, and turned me into your eternal supporter.

"Nova had stolen his lonely heart from the moment he saw her. It was never his to keep. Always hers to have. He just didn't realize until this very moment".

Nova stole Ryker's heart, and you, Sarah, have stolen mine. And I turn it to you willingly.

How The Stars Fall is being released on December 3rd, and let me tell you, you need this cosy romantasy in your life for so many reasons.

You need to fully grasp the love and devotion oozing from its pages; you need to immerse yourself in its precious vibe, filled with love, wonder, and pure bliss. You need to meet Nova, a fallen star, and Ryker, a bounty hunter, on a mission. You need to peel layer after layer of Ryker's guilt, sadness, and feeling of unworthyness. You need to experience our world from the eyes of a fallen star, Nova Seraphina. You need to grasp her joy and pure excitement. And you need to feel her suffering and feel the anger rising. You need to witness Nova and Ryker both fighting for one another, and you need to see them both commit the act of the purest and realest love.

You will laugh, you will cry tears of joy and happiness. Above all, your heart will be filled to the brim. Allow them to show you what love may be.

"Ryker...?"
"Yes, little star?"
"Thank you for being my last first kiss."

✨How the Stars Fall✨

Oh my goodness, Sarah’s books just keep getting better and better. I know that when I get a story by her I will feel so happy and content.

HTSF is a standalone Romantasy following two POVs. First is Nova, a star that has fallen from the heavens and into human form. Secondly, is Ryker, a bounty Hunter nursing a broken heart. After Nova’s landing, the kings of Emberfell send out hunters to find the fallen star after lore tells them that they harbor powers. When Ryker finds her, his mission for the king is compromised as his heart wars between whether this innocent star should go to him or not. And after accepting his payment from the king, one day Ryker sees how Nova has been treated and plans her rescue. Nova is passed through multiple hands such as abusive kings, cunning pirates, and royal guards as Ryker tries to protect her and return her back home to the stars.

HTSF is so well done, beautifully whimsical, and heart wrenching. Nova is such a heartwarming FMC- not full of feminine rage but all encompassing meekness (strength under control). Her love and joy and innocence to a new world was so fun to behold and I grinned often. Our grumpy hunter was her perfect balance. His previous heartbreak broke my own heart but his growth was lovely.

Sarah made me giggle, swoon, and cry- especially once I hit chapter 30. But it wasn’t long before those tears turned to a grin. My, I just love this sweet Romantasy.

Tropes you may find in HTSF are forced proximity, bounty Hunter x captive, grumpy x sunshine, one horse, star magic, “teach me”, touch her and 💀, medium spice, he saves her physically, she saves him emotionally, grief rep, and is a stand-alone.

Sarah, it is such a delight to once again be an arc reader for you. Thank you for this opportunity. I love your books so much.

How The Stars Fall is an intense romantasy that will have you feeling like your emotions are on a Rollercoaster ride.

It follows Ryker, a bounty hunter, who is hired by the king to capture a fallen star for a large sum of money; and Nova, the fallen star, who just wants to explore this new world in her new human body.

This was such a powerful story. It had me laughing, and it had me crying. It had me thinking how I could be more like Nova, with her excitement for life. I think this will be a story I think about often, because it had such a big emotional effect on me. The writing was beautiful, the characters were amazing, and the story was very entertaining in a variety of ways. I highly recommend reading How the Stars Fall by Sarah C. Davies!

Sarah C. Davies is most definitely a master of writing cozy-feel fantasies! I read her other book When Shadows Seek Light and knew I had to read this one too! This story follows Nova, a star who falls to Earth and Ryker, the king's bounty hunter sent to bring her back to the palace as a prize. This is a romantasy so a bit of enemies to lovers, a dash of spice (a bit spicer and more descriptive than her last book!) and written in third person, but with alternating perspectives of the two main characters. I absolutely loved this book and I would recommend this to anyone who likes romantasy or standalone fantasy!

I have so many book boyfriends my husband is bound to notice! Sorry not sorry 😝.

I love Nova and Ryker. Her innocence of the world is so beautifully written and it captivated me from beginning to end. My heart ached for Ryker and what he went through. I could not stop reading this book.

How the stars fall is a gorgeous romance, with celestial magic, a brooding and hurt MMC, and a star who just wants to experience life to the full

Sarah's writing is incredibly engaging, and you fall into her world so quickly that within pages, you are captured by her magic and need to see what journey she's about to take you on.

Nova, our fallen star, is alluring, feisty, and confused by the world and people of earth; which she's watched over for years. All she desires is to experience the beauty of nature and experience love and kindness, but an evil king stands in her way. Her only hope is Ryker, the bounty hunter whose dark and mysterious past continues to haunt him, not allowing him to move forward.

But when he finally lets his guard down for a moment, that's where the magic happens; Nova captures a part of him he thought would remain dormant forever.

This story is full of the push and pull of falling in love, the heady desires that emotionally compromise us, all tangled with resolving the past and overcoming insurmountable obstacles to find a happily ever after. And Sarah delivers that and more.

I would totally class this book as 'Romagical'.

If you're after:

💫 Celestial and innocent FMC
💫 Brooding MMC with a tortured history
💫 There was only one horse!
💫 First times
💫 Healing a broken heart
💫 Touch her and die
💫 Evil King
💫 HEA

then you don't want to miss this one!

Please note that the book I read came directly from the author prior to the official publishing date.

How the Stars Fall is a romantic fantasty filled with adventure, love, loss and lust.

Our story begins with a single star falling from the sky. A broody bounty hunter is hired by the King of Emberfell to find the star and bring it back to him. Seems simple enough, right? Wrong.

Stars have special powers that make them highly sought after. Quickly after falling the star, Nova, is captured by twin bounty hunters. They are rough and gruff and up to no good. But they aren't the only ones looking for her.

Our broody bounty hunter Ryker, finds and recovers Nova and their story begins. He has a job to do after all. But the star isn't what he imagined. For one, she's gorgeous and she shines just for him...

I really enjoyed reading this story by Sarah C Davies. If you've seen the movie Stardust, you'll probably enjoy this cozy, celestial read too. I got similar vibes while reading it and found it helpful to picture Clare Danes' Yvaine as Nova.

This story has open door scenes. It felt a bit too slow burn at times but once the heat was turned on, it was turned up high. This story depicts scenes of violence but also offers a lot of adventure with it's mention of mythical creatures.

Thank you Sarah C. Davies for an eARC of this story. I laughed, I smiled, I gasped and I even cried while reading this. It was so well written. By the Stars, you did it! Available December 3, 2024.

Stardust meets The Huntsman

How the Stars Fall is a thrilling Romantasy that will leave you on the edge of your seat with anticipation and angst until the very end.

It follows Nova who is a newly fallen star, complete with a human body, looking for adventure and longing to explore this beautiful new world - when Ryker, a bounty hunter, enters her life, rescue/kidnaps her and explains he was hired by the king to capture her for a large sum of money. The pair are thrust on a new path full of betrayal, loyalty, healing, beauty, heart-break and longing.

The world-building was so easy to grasp that I devoured this book in just 2 days. The story jumps right into action and keeps hold of your attention. It’s incredibly engaging and you are captured by its magic.

Nova, our fallen star, is a sweet & gentle soul who’s naive and simple view of life made me giggle and instantly love her character. I adored that all she wanted to do was experience nature, food, touch and the beauty of human love. Ryker, our bounty hunter, is handsome, broody and secretly has a gentle heart. His tortured past will break your heart and explain exactly why he acts the way he does sometimes but I love the bonding and emotional healing that both Nova and Ryker derive from each other.

I loved the push and pull chemistry that these two characters had together because it left you wanting and trying to guess what was going to happen. I'm not going to lie……Sarah will make you nervous there in the end and leave you yelling at your kindle…BUT she knows how to wrap up a story and overall will leave you forgiving her.

Perfect if you love:

✨️Hunter x Captive

This is such a beautiful love story. The deliberate, whimsical story telling of this book was absolute perfection. This fantasy romance isn’t just about the action (although there is some) and it’s not all about the spice (although there is some), it’s about deep love, discovery, forgiveness, compassion, and remembering to pay attention to the beauty in this world. The way this author wrote Nova’s perspective truly made me feel as if I too was seeing things for the first time. The way she wrote Ryker’s perspective had me going through not just the physical journey, but also his emotional journey where he realizes he is deserving of beautiful things in his life. This book had me smiling softly, worried for our great loves, and tearing up at the lengths they would go to keep each other safe.
Some of my favorite quotes from this book:

“Promise me,” she whispered. “Promise me you will look for me in the stars.” A sob caught in her throat. “I will find you somehow.”

“You can have it all, little star. Every part of me,” he whispered.

“She knew it now, saw the cracks in the way he looked at her, as if she were both his salvation and the threat of his undoing.”

She had come in to his life, a star falling from the heavens, but stars didn’t belong on Earth. They burned bright and disappear, leaving only darkness in their wake.

ARC REVIEW
How The Stars Fall by @sarah.c.davies

Rating: 5🌟
Spice: 🌶 🌶

What a beautiful standalone romantasy 😍😍 Sarah had my emotions in a vice with this book!

Our FMC is a fricking FALLEN STAR!! A celestial that has fallen and taken human form. She gets hunted by the Kings of Emberfell, as it is said these stars possess a great power. This is how she meets our broken-hearted Ryker, a bounty hunter, tasked with capturing Nova. Even though he has a hand in the abuse and treatment that befalls Nova as shes passed from 'owner' to 'owner', Ryker will stop at nothing in trying to protect her and return Nova to her place back among the stars.

What unfolds is a beautifully written story about two people who lend each other strength in their greatest time of need. Nova, almost an innocent child, in a new world, provides Ryker with the emotional connection he lost and craves. Whilst Ryker becomes her protector.

I loved that this was a standalone, and yet it didn't feel rushed. The characters were so well thought out, and the world building was divine.

If you enjoy these troupes:
🌟 Grumpy X Sunshine
🌟 Bounty Hunter X Captive
🌟 Forced Proximity
🌟 Touch her and 💀

Then please go and grab this book! I cannot recommend this book enough! I LOVED IT!! 😍

Thank you so much, @sarah.c.davies, for allowing me read this ARC ❤️

review:
I really enjoyed this book! I obviously loved the celestial inspired magic throughout this story, I mean the main character being a fallen star?? Say less!

Nova is such a cinnamon roll character and I love her for it! However she still stands up for herself throughout the book which I very much appreciate. Ryker, our mmc on the other hand, is quite the grump but I love a grumpy / sunshine dynamic🙂‍↕️

While reading, I honestly got lots of Stardust x Tangled vibes, heavy on the Stardust part! And I loveeee both of those movies so much!

This story is super fast paced! I would have loved to have sat in some scenes for a bit longer, but I do appreciate that we didn’t have any parts that dragged bc that can be the worst!

Also, a moment for the cover!! All of Sarah’s covers are amazing and works of art fr!!

recommendation:
I’d recommend this book to anyone who wants a nice cozy standalone with celestial magic, a grumpy / sunshine dynamic, Stardust x Tangled vibes, and a super fast paced story!

💫How The STARS Fall. 💫
By Sarah C Davies

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sarah’s writing is incredibly engaging, pulling you into her world from the very start. Her enchanting style of writing makes you feel as if you’re living inside this book. I loved it and found it was impossible to put the book down.

💫 In a captivating tale of longing and transformation, Nova, a fallen star, embodies both beauty and fierce determination, navigating her confusion about the world and its inhabitants after years of watching over Earth. Her deepest desire is to experience the wonders of nature and the love it offers, but a cruel king stands in her way. Enter Ryker, a brooding bounty hunter haunted by a dark past that has kept him from moving forward. As their paths intertwine, the connection between Nova and Ryker ignites a powerful magic, awakening parts of him he thought were lost forever. This enchanting narrative beautifully explores themes of love, redemption, and the courage to embrace one’s true self, promising a journey that will forever alter both their fates.

💫How The Stars Fall will be released on December 3rd, make sure to add this one to your TBR you definitely won’t be disappointed.💫

If you are looking for a good romantasy, go ahead and open How the stars fall!

We have all the usual ingredients to have a good time, plus an original touch : the FMC Nova is a celestial being, fallen on Earth. And this brings a very nice perspective to the story : Nova used to observe Earth from the sky, so she is not totally lost there, but how she discovers her feelings and the humankind is described with fineness. The author succeeds in making us live this whole range of emotions and perceptions along with Nova, and this freshness is really enjoyable!

The MMC, Ryker, is a great character as well. Due to his past, he is convinced he does not deserve happiness anymore, and we cannot avoid being so sad for him, because he is definitely a kind man.

This is a story about a quest, and where we belong. There is a bit of action, I would enjoy more though.

The world building is simple, but it works perfectly fine!

This was a quick, cozy read with a unique concept! A perfect palate cleanser. I loved Nova’s curiosity and desire to experience everything life has to offer. It contrasted with Ryker’s broody bah humbug attitude, and I loved seeing her add light to his life and help heal him from his heartbreak.

How the Stars Fall is available on Amazon/KU and the cover is absolutely gorgeous!

🗣️ Her light wasn’t just beautiful; it was healing, washing over him in a way that soothed the deep scars he carried within. In her arms, the weight of his past felt lighter, almost bearable.

This book had me put me in a reading slump!

I think it is rare now to find a story that is unique and

although, I could see where some inspiration had been drawn from

other books this one definitely had its unique elements setting it apart.

It was a bit slow in some sections and I felt like some chapters could be skipped without missing anything in the story this is why it is not 5 star for me. It was also a little predictable but did have a few surprises that

I was not expecting and definitely enjoyed.

I loved the writing and was extra suprised to see this only the authors second book! I have already added her first book to my TBR.

You can see the love and care that when into getting this book to ready for publishing, this is an author that definitely deserves more love.

I am super excited for the rest of this series.

I am obsessed with these characters. I cannot even put into words the magical and enchanting romance Sarah created with Nova and Ryker.

I was just looking over some of my favorited and highlighted quotes from reading this book - and just those few quotes alone had me emotional and feeling Rykers fierce love and protectiveness for Nova.

As soon as I began reading How The Stars Fall… I was instantly getting Star Dust vibes and it made me SO EXCITED! It has Star Dust vibes but gives so much more. Although nova has had years to observe earth… it was so magical to see her experience human experiences for the first time and the wonder and amazement she viewed the world through. It was such a sweet story that I am sad is over but absolutely enjoyed the journey it took me on.

Man this book is a tear jerker!!! I mean full on sobbing. 😭

This is so adventurous and romantic.
The writing is beautifully descriptive, which I absolutely adore, and this makes you feel as though you are right there experiencing it too.
I ate up the world building. I am telling you I have never read a fantasy book like this, and that’s a difficult feat these days.
This is an amazing standalone. This is going to be a new comfort read for me I can already tell.

I love reading standalone books as palette cleansers and this was just amazing. I’m a bit speechless at this being the authors second book and it being SO good. There were only a couple of things that would have made this a perfect five star for me. It’s just so immersive. *sigh* ✨🖤

DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS.

Whew, this book. This love story. It’s just chef’s kiss. There’s action, there’s spice, there’s forgiveness, and compassion, there’s innocence and heartache. There’s most definitely a HEA.

This standalone fantasy romance is incredible. The FMC is a fallen star whose innocence reminds us to see every day things in a new way. The MMC is a broken-hearted grump who falls head over heals for the FMC and beats himself up over it. The dual POV really lets you into the minds of the two main characters to see how they overcome their faults and make each other better. And the ending is both gut-wrenching and then beautiful.

If you like romance, fantasy, simple world building, and HEAs then this is most definitely a book to read.

It's gonna have you on your toes the whole way! I absolutely loved getting to know Nova and Ryker in this thrilling and action-packed novel. From the first page to the last, I was completely engrossed in their dynamic relationship and the twists and turns of their gripping story. Nova's feisty determination and Ryker's brooding intensity make for a perfect combination, keeping me hooked from start to finish. The author did an incredible job developing these characters and crafting a plot that kept me guessing until the very end. This book is a rollercoaster ride of emotions and suspense that will leave you breathless with anticipation. I couldn't put it down, and I can't wait to see what happens next in their journey!

This one caught my attention in the first few chapters. It was an interesting fantasy/romance concept that I hadn’t read before, which is refreshing.

I do have to say, there were a few spots that felt a little slow, but not horribly so. Over all, the flow of the story was decent.

It’s definitely a slow burn romance, but when you do finally get to the spice, it’s well written. I don’t want to say too much about the story or the characters, without giving something away. However, I’d actually recommend this book to a friend, for a different twist in the fantasy world.

Thank you for the wonderful ARC opportunity!

This book … Ah this book. So many of my favorite things came out to play in this sweet and spicy romantasy: sword fighting, pirates, outdoor adventuring, slow-burn tender moments … The setting brought unique fantasy elements to the story without overwhelming it, the plot pulled me in right from the get-go and kept me turning pages, and that romance! Sweet and sad and spicy and slow … it was everything I wanted. If you’re looking for a fun-filled fantasy romp with a touch of hurt/comfort, a feisty FMC, and a MMC to make any girl swoon, this is decidedly the book for you!

How The Stars Fall just released and it’s such a great cozy read for this month! Nova is so sweet and her curiosity is adorable especially on Earth. Seeing Ryker’s vulnerability and learning how to trust his own heart was so good. The ending was so good too, I loved how he continued to speak to Nova even over the distance. I think my favorite part was when our fav pirate entered the scene, I’d love to read more about her story! Thank you again to the author for trusting me with their book baby!

A fantasy novel full of adventure! From the beginning I was hooked, I found it to be a unique idea of a star falling to Earth and turning to human form. So good, the adventure that Sarah C Davies takes you on! Loved the writing, I felt that I was right there with the characters through the whole storyline. I do feel there are areas left unexplored, possibly to be explained in a sequel? Either way, was a really good read, I would recommend for anyone who enjoys this genre!

Nova was unfamiliar and distant especially in the beginning. I’m not sure if this was done intentionally since she fell from the stars. She was hard to connect to until much later in the book and still seemed distant. Ryker was very three dimensional and I liked his character from the start. His attraction and interest in Nova was very present and descriptive which made it easy to understand. I feel like even with Ryker’s POV it was more visually engaging and I enjoyed that.

This was such a good read! It was filled with many ups and downs, I really felt a ton of emotions throughout the story. There was romance, there was adventure, there was daring escapes, it had it all. Watching Nova and Ryker get to know each other was so fun. Like Ryker, I enjoyed seeing Nova experience the world for the first time, she was so loveable. I definitely recommend giving this a read!

I loved this concept so much. This man fell HARD. And a tragic backstory that he had to battle with??? Beautiful setting and world building. I ate it up and didn’t want it to end. Beautifully written and I felt like I could see everything in my head. My one minor ick was that Nova was very naïve about Earth but somehow also an expert? Overall, one of my favorite reads of 2024.

I have no words💜… The way this book made me happy, then broke my heart, then took the pieces and put them back together… At first I was giggling/happy, and at another point I was sobbing… crying my eyes out. I like the way it was written because I fully understood the story; in my mind, there was a full movie of them traveling, fighting things, and so on and so on. Their love really was pure and beautiful. Again… I have no words.
