Now living as the rich noble Cale Henituse, our protagonist collects flashy abilities and unexpected allies in his pursuit of a cushy life! After foiling a mad mage's terrorist plot in the capital, he travels to a coastline of vicious whirlpools to find his next Ancient Power. There, he meets siblings from the Whale Tribe who are as beautiful as they are deadly. For ages, the whales have kept their sworn enemies at bay--the bloodthirsty mermaids--but an unknown power from the depths of the Dark Forest has made their foes stronger than ever. Will the mermaids, monsters, and magic of this vibrant fantasy world be enough to derail Cale's ambitions of a luxurious, carefree future?

Contains web chapters 43- 87

Vol 1 ends with Cale and his motley crew about to stop a terror incident. I was VERY satisfied with how that arc ended in vol 2. I wanted to know more about our villains the Red Mage and the secret organisation behind it all.

Sadly, that didn't happen. Instead afterwards we had to read about Cale going on adventures to gain even more powers and meet even more characters, which felt unnecessary to me. I just wasn't interested in the conflict between the mermaids and the whale people either. The last 2/3 of this novel simply dragged on.

I can't see myself picking up vol 3.

Continuing the buddy read with the one and only ~Komy~ ✨✨

Getting a little more action-packed in this one! And Cale, our chaotic little gremlin, is playing Insta-Family (and being hopelessly oblivious about it). And I just finished this volume with one conclusion: I would kill for Raon my child 💔💔

The cutest baby dragon has a name now 🥰
FYI, this is a reread for me, so I won't be rating each volume individually. It's a 5🌟 all the way~

In this volume, Cale continues to set up the pieces in preparation for a future that he's ignorant of. As his knowledge of the book is reaching its limit, he tries to grab any opportunity that could benefit his plans.

We also get snippets here and there of his "previous life" and it's easy to gather that he did not have an easygoing privileged life. Explains why he's adamant on living in luxury and doing nothing.

I like how Cale wants nothing to do with heroism and spotlight. Although he knows some of what's going to happen, he doesn't use his knowledge to gain political power. That doesn't stop him from scamming people for money. He's very upfront about only wanting to secure his own well-being and have a relaxing boring life. Still, he's not as egoistical as he claims to be. Over and over, he demonstrates how deeply responsible he is, especially towards the little ones. Once someone's part of the crew, they're his charge and he will make arrangements so they could also share that peaceful future and grow in a healthy environment.

Arcs included:
1-The Plaza Terror Incident Part II
2-The Sound Of The Wind
3-The Whales And The Black Forest
4-The Kingdom Of The Whipper
5-The Fire Of The Jungle
6-Raon's Revenge Part I

Cale knows the continent-spanning war is coming---so he's moving in earnest to get rich. The fact that this looks like good deeds to people around him is merely coincidence. But why doesn't anyone he meets want to leave him alone when he's done with them?

This volume is now building the plot at a much more rapid pace. Cale is resolving issues left and right, collecting Ancient Powers, and learning a few secrets beyond the borders of the books he read. Not everything is the way he expects it to be, but enough is---and that's what he's counting on to give him his edge.

What he isn't anticipating is the sheer impact his "selfless acts" are having on everyone around him. Cale isn't dumb enough to TELL the people he's scamming that he's actually getting the far better side of the bargain, but it's still funny that for all his long-term thinking, he's still got his biggest blind spot regarding himself (and Muller).

Overall this is a fun time. I rate this book Highly Recommended.

I bought the Kindle copy of this volume, having been a fan of the series long before it was officially released in English. If you enjoyed the first book, you’ll definitely like this continuation. The translation quality remains solid, making for an easy and enjoyable read.

I love that our protagonist is a pretty unreliable narrator, and I enjoy reading stories about people thrust into circumstances unwillingly and being forced to take the lead.

I also love found family, and Cale is clearly making one. The supporting characters are very endearing, and the youngest three are so lovable.

Overall, a great continuation of the series. Looking forward to the next volume!

It's formulaic at this point but still enjoyable. Things may change in book three as the MC's foreknowledge runs low.

Cale Henituse, notorious lout and son of Count Deruth, has brought this motley crew to the capitol to stop a terrorist attack. Of course, this isn't solely out of the goodness of Cale's heart: Doing so will bring him one step closer to his goal of living a long and lazy life of luxury. For he is, in fact, a former Korean officer worker who was transported into the novel series he read (although he wasn't able to complete the series before he awoke in Cale's body). Using his knowledge of the first five books, Cale deploys his devoted followers -- ranging from a dragon and beastfolk children to mages and a fellow Korean-transplant-turned-warrior -- to turn events to his favor and secure his position before an upcoming war befalls the Western Continent.

After cleaning up in the capitol, Cale turns his attention to two different geographies: the Kingdom of the Whippers and the jungle abutting one of the Five Wonder's, No Way Out. His goals, respectively, are to secure another Ancient Power and expand his resources, and that means he'll have to wade into a civil war and threatening terrain to obtain them.

It would be an understatement to say that, in this second installment, Cale is *busy*. He travels almost constantly, and there's no single story arc, but rather, three separate mini arcs. I worried I'd get tired of seeing Cale overcome seemingly insurmountable odds with casual nonchalance (and his trusty powerhouse troupe), but it remained fun throughout. By the conclusion, Cale has just about reached the end of his knowledge of the series, which means everything that happens after will be unknown to him, and I can't wait to read how that plays out given the preparations he's made. Although it didn't appear to me that his relationships with anyone deepened, again, people are inextricably drawn to Cale and like him despite his shameless self-confidence and borderline conceit. That is one plot point that still doesn't make sense to me (how can you build a relationship on next to nothing?), but this is a light novel, so I don't take it too seriously. It's exactly what I wanted it to be: a fun read.

As Cale's hair fluttered in the wind, he cursed. "Damn it!"
Then the bomb went off.

Volume 2 picks up seamlessly where the first left off, continuing to build on the world and characters with confidence and heart. Cale Henituse remains determined to live a quiet, uneventful life—but reality continues to defy his wishes. His entourage keeps expanding, much to his dismay.

This volume focuses not only on raising the narrative stakes, but also on strengthening the relationships between the characters. It’s easy for the reader to grow just as attached to them.

Raon, the young dragon, continues to steal the show. He is pure cuteness incarnate—a bundle of energy, innocence, and wonder. His bright-eyed enthusiasm offers a delightful contrast to the darker schemes unfolding around him, and his presence brings genuine warmth and levity to the story.

On the plot side, the first glimpses of the antagonists begin to emerge. Though much remains in shadow, the little we learn is more than enough to pique curiosity. The author introduces just enough mystery to keep the reader intrigued, laying subtle groundwork for future conflicts without overwhelming the current storyline.

All in all, this second volume proves that Lout of the Count’s Family isn’t just a one-hit wonder. With deepening character dynamics, well-paced humor, and an increasingly engaging plot, it builds upon the strengths of the first book and sets the stage for even greater adventures ahead. A charming, funny, and heartwarming continuation—complete with an utterly lovable dragon.

[ edit after getting some good sleep because i finished at 2 am ]

I really enjoyed this volume! seeing this development with the children and especially seeing Roan finally getting a name ( and him being excited aww ) was so heartwarming

there were plently of funny moments, from where Cale outwardly states his intentions to scam and rip people off, Prince Albert's and Cales interactions, and especially Müller(?)

im also so excited to learn more about Kim Roksu's previous life as he seems to be desensitized to the battlefield when peaking to Bilose. Tunka and Choi also crack me up, Tunka just spewing everything that comee out his mouth and Choi han acting like an angry gaurd dog...

also seen Viscross being turned into a nanny and butler in the absence of his father... thats something I wish to see more of... the kids calling him "uncle uncle!!" super cute

overall loved all the characters introductions in the volume and especially the interactions... im gonna flip a coin to whether go and buy vol 3 right now or wait T_T

- i've read the webtoon equivalent of the second light novel. goodreads does not have a way to track that you've read a webtoon, so i am cheating and using the novel books to track it instead. i have not read the light novels, only the webtoon.

-the tale continues. Cale travels from the capital along the coast, and collects another ancient power. he meets the whale tribe, and the mermaids. and eventually returns home after setting a bunch more things in motion.

-4 stars. isekai/portal fantasy.

-volume 2 of the light novel contains chapters 43-84. [or season two = chapters 53-92 depending on source]

- free webtoon - https://mangatoto.com/title/81878-lou...

-also known as "Trash of the Count's Family"

-has 776 chapters in Korean and is ongoing. not all are officially translated to english yet, and not all are available online for free yet. not published as a print manga in english yet, only as the light novel.

Pros: Fun unique characters, found family, no annoying characters
Cons: Sometimes feels a little rushed

Cale is back to his conceited, yet ultimately caring and protective ways.
With a war approaching, Cale is gathering strength, money, and resources, while unwillingly winning over and collecting allies along the way.
We actually follow 4 or so segments in this one, which keeps the story moving pretty fast and while we meet a ton of new people at no point does it feel overwhelming or like I'll never remember who any of the folks are when they reappear. While so fantasy books feel like a bombardment of names and positions that there's no hope of telling apart or remembering, this light novel series really introduces the extensive cast well.

This was far more action-packed than Volume 1, with Cale expanding his own role in the world around him and acting on the future knowledge he had about the nearby civil war, the mage's tower, and of course the sheer amount of treasure which would guarantee him a comfortable life. I enjoyed seeing Cale meet new characters, as well as (accidentally) expand the loyalty of his established band. I like the thought of him working to a build a home, even if he doesn't call it such, and how his (or rather the body he lives in) family and friends respond to it.

That said, I would love more focus on the enemy band they addressed at the beginning of the novel but then fell to the background as Cale focused on other things.

Volume 2 of Lout of Count’s Family was really enjoyable and dives deeper into Cale Henituse's reluctant rise to power. The story goes beyond him just trying to stay in the background, bringing in some interesting political schemes and the mysterious Whale Tribe siblings. The pacing is a bit slow at times, but it gives space for the characters and world to develop. Overall, it’s a solid continuation that sets up future conflicts and makes me excited for the next volume.

This book really left me speechless cales development is quite fascinating how he slowly but clearly becomes the hero of the story even though he doesn’t intent to. And I also love choi Han‘s devotion for Cale and his need to protect him he’s truly a good hearted person who had suffered a lot of trials in his life ✨ can’t wait to continue this exceptional story ❤️

Cale is wondering if he has changed fate. He hopes not enough because he is still making plans based on the stuff he read about. His plans are so many moving pieces and yet they are all going well so far.
Now he is looking for Magic Bombs and looking out for the Kingdom.
I really like the series and how it works around his memories and the current events.

the way everyone misunderstood him / what he thinks at most times (and he doesn’t even correct them, just ignores everything which causes even more misunderstanding 😆) is so funny! This is the start where Cale tries to scam everyone to think he’s a good person (even though he really is the nicest guys ever!!!) also the start of his slacker life going far away from him LOL

Another great volume in the series! It's fun to see Cale's journey continue, and his developing relationships with all the people he keeps allying with/adopting. The translation reads very well.

If you like the manhwa adaptation of the novel, I would highly recommend picking up the novel, too.

Lost 2 stars for NOT writing a Recap.

I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.

Cale is probably one of my favorite characters. As he reaches the end of the novels he's read before being transported into them, he's left finding allies and shoring up his defenses. War is coming and he hopes to avoid it.
