When Sandy's son was deployed to Iraq in 2004, she felt overwhelmed with fear and anxiety. She couldn't help but worry. To keep herself busy, she turned her energies toward finding ways to support her son from the home front. After thousands of hours of research and her own first-hand experience along with many lessons she learned from other military families, she wrote Mom's Field What You Need to Know to Make It Through Your Loved One's Military Deployment. She shares what she learned with other families in the same situation.
Mom’s Field Guide is a great How-To book and a veritable “bible” to Military Deployment. My nephew’s first deployment to Afghanistan created so many questions and fears. This book helped me sort through such things as mailing care packages to military addresses in Muslim countries and all the necessary paperwork - arrgh! The Appendix even contains an extensive Care Package Suggestion Checklist - the FORBIDDEN items are at the end. The military spouse or partner will find the Chapters on The Basics, Practical Matters and Support from Official and Personal Sources invaluable. A single soldier’s family (Mom, Dad, etc.) no doubt will see in this book “a light in the darkness of the storm.” I gave one to my sister. It’s a great gift for anyone with a military loved one!
