Plot summary (long version):

Carla runs across Comac again while they are each engaged in separate intelligence gathering operations on space station Untika, the Tortuga of space. A chance encounter with an elderly relative of Firuun’s causes Carla to remember the Song of the Dalshon, just in time to use it after a massive anti-pirate space battle, thus becoming a dalshon in the eyes of the Gisel. Meanwhile, Carla’s actions on Untika drive R’Mort into the arms of the enemy, with disastrous consequences for Xywanda and the Serekh. We meet Jason Hernandez, high powered lawyer, who will figure in a later book, as will Dalshon society. Carla makes her peace with Comac at last, but in a way he can’t appreciate.
