This book has a beautiful cover and looks nice on my shelf.
...but...
It was very repetitive. It may have been better to focus on the 10 daily habits rather than 101 things. There were nuggets of wisdom packed throughout but some advice just felt antiquated. For example: never eat the last piece of food on your plate. Well, ok, sure, but a modern world focused on sustainability--where supposedly this modern gentleman lives--would ask people to be conscious consumers and reduce waste. The argument is made that it is sometimes insulting to a host to finish your entire plate (as in, they didn't give you enough food), and on this I don't disagree, but then the better advice is to say learn the cultural norms of places you travel to and follow them as closely as you can. To blanket advise that you should never finish the last bite is naive. I know cultures that would assume you weren't happy with the food unless you eat it all. (minus one star)
Additionally, I found the entire work to be overtly heteronormative without any consideration that the modern gentlemen isn't always going to be a cisgender, straight male. A lot of time was dedicated to modernizing what it means to be a gentleman. Ok, then read the room, author. Stop referring to the partner as "your girl" and "she". (minus one star)
Finally, a piece of irony: "Good grammar is critical" (or something like that)...and then what proceeds is several grammar mistakes in each piece of advise for the next 70 pages.
