"Paul Jun has written a book on a topic near to my self-education. I've watched Paul's self-schooling over the last few years via email, and now you can discover the strategies and tools he's picked up along the way." — Ryan Holiday, best-selling author of Trust Me, I'm Lying. Paul Jun was unstimulated by traditional education and was desperately searching for ways to adapt. Motivated Mastery is about connecting the dots between subjects like mastery, psychology, technology, philosophy, culture, art, and more.
Unstimulated by the current state of the education system, I decided to take education into my own hands. As a voracious reader and someone who has learned to unearth wisdom from various sources, this blog serves as an archive of all my learning. I believe that education is the greatest panacea. Traditional education doesn’t prepare its participants holistically —and perhaps it was never meant to — so it’s solely our responsibility to see that as a shortcoming and to spark a desire to pursue the kind of learning that enriches our expertise and the way we lead our lives. From how to live a meaningful life to why you should work in 90-minute bursts, this blog provides rich research and wisdom that focuses on helping you thrive and evolve.
I’m big fan of personal development and I couldn’t imagine it without self-education. While self-education is broad topic, author mastered to pinpoint most important “dots” in the subject.
Book is easy to read and well structured. Author gives plenty of resources for further discoveries in broad range of topics leading to one – to become more educated and … masterful.
I would and will recommend this book for people willing to gather more knowledge about various topics of their own interest. To become expert in certain field one of the requirements is knowledge. Paul gives his simple yet very effective system to obtain it basically for free. How? Read the whole story in the book!
Thank you, Paul, for adjusting my focus of self-education!
Enjoyed the book and the story of someone who found self learning and has grown significantly through the learning. I can appreciate the story and will suggest this to others.
In simple language, not esoteric, yet meaningful, I read this not judging it (I taught English for 35 years, and this book has helped me get back to writing. Grateful,
Really remarkable book. A charming meditation with tons of take home ideas & behaviors I scrambled to adopt. Reading this made a positive impact on how I take in books and consider ideas. My notebook is now a major boost to my writing, I can always find a topic by just paging through.
I first came across Paul Jun through a post on 99U. I heard from Jun again through the "Beyond the To Do List" podcast and related to his past college mentality greatly. I then decided to make the small purchase and read his book mentioned in both medias. It is a short read, but for someone who's just getting into reading again, it was the perfect length. I can see why some people may not like it, as what works for him won't work for everyone, but he states that himself multiple times. Any book that encourages positive habits such as reading, education (or in this case, "self-education"), and a willingness to open one's mind is something positive in my book. It was something I needed to read for what it was and that is what the author hoped for, I think. Well done, Mr. Jun.
What an awesome book! One could say this is like a gateway book to so much more. I'm just coming out of a big slump and a book like this was just what I needed to keep me focused and occupied.
