Likho, my aunt and the goddess of Chaos, is spreading her plague through the country. My friends and I can barely keep up with the damage, but something even more sinister is cooking. And trust me, it’s not my grandma’s famous potato cakes.
The universal police are here to help, even if their goons are not exactly stoked to work with a young demigod vigilante. When one of their own gets kidnapped, I go searching for him in the tunnels of Salt Lake City—the place of sinister ancient magic. And traps. Because of course there are traps.
The perpetrator? My "lovely" cousin Vizg, who is as good with her spear as she is with her necromancy. I must track her down before she and her army of monsters pull the city into a ritual so nasty it will rattle the dead in their graves. On the bright side, I’m dating the girl of my dreams. But loving me puts her in more danger than ever before. Can I save my loved ones and the world, or is everything about to go up in Chaos?
Folklore meets humor in this action-packed urban fantasy saga. Perfect for the fans of Kevin Hearne, M.D. Massey, Deborah Wilde, and Jim Butcher.
Dmitry Kozlov is your ordinary 20-something living in Salt Lake City, Utah. His roommate is an adonis of a indie rock player, he’s got friends from Asia, friends from Europe, and even a friend with blue hair. He has a garden in the back yard of his house, he’s opened his own brewery and distillery, and he’s working on a line of wines, life’s good in ol’ SLC, and he’s not even a Mormon!
With Dmitry’s harvest demigod powers and the luck that courses through his veins, his garden is completely GOATed (convenient since his last name is old Slav for “goat”), he can fix the makeup of alcoholic drinks to make them taste better and give a better buzz, he brews THE best beers this side of the World Tree, and his rosé? Out of this world! Dmitry’s not just ANY demigod either. He’s the grandson of Baba Yaga herself (yeah, the cauldron-flying, chicken-house living, baddest witch in all of the Vyraj. THAT Baba Yaga).
While Dmitry’s hidden in the Yav in the past, he’s done hiding. He’s claimed his powers and heritage, he’s learned new and interesting ways to use his wind and strength daggers, and he’s even made friends with most of his cousins! I mean, world-ending threats of doom courtesy of his (formerly) dead aunt, the Slavic goddess of Chaos, with full intent to unleash her Ruined and as much destructive power as she can get her mits on on the world at large, and Dmitry’s favorite slice of the Yav, SLC, in particular.
I think Dmitry’s gonna need that beer.
“Weaved” is the final (dangit) book in the Kozlov Chronicles five-book series by Elena Sobol. With rich dives into old Slav culture, mythology, and adventure, the reader is immersed in Dmitry’s Salt Lake City, celebrating his brewing triumphs, and sweating the next Ruined attack. The character and setting descriptions are rich and beautiful, so much so that you can almost smell the grass in the Vyraj. The story is a page-turning blast, from start-to-finish, making the reader never want to put it down and look forward to more when they reach the end. I cannot possibly recommend this book and the four that precede it enough. This series is a must-read addition to the Urban Fantasy genre that readers didn’t know they needed until they’ve gotten ahold of it. And yes, you NEED it. Enjoy!
I received a free copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
As usual, a brilliant mix of Slavic folklore and urban fantasy!
Dmitry and his very dysfunctional family have finally come to blows. Will the world survive it? Everything comes to a head here, and the end isn't quite what you expect. However, it is satisfying which the point of a series ending is!
Trust me, you want to read this one! It's action packed, full of folklore, and you get a fallible demi-god who tries hard! Plus, his blue ferret shifter love interest who can walk between realms adds a layer that makes this a unique and fun series!
Dmitry and Alysa are back and they've brought some of their favorite friends! I love that Min-Ho, James and Domo are still part of the crew and what would an adventure/battle be without Fronima, Golo, Uncle Orphis, Tynan and Coria? The iconic Utah salty wasteland and the Salt Lake Mormon temple are revealed as places of power and magic that most utahns have long suspected. Combine all these ingredients with the villains, Likho, Vizg, Zavi and Kori, who we love to hate, and you get a hero's journey that I couldn't put down.
Awesome ending to an awesome series. Sobol brings a rich exploration of Slavic culture and mythology into the everyday world of Salt Lake City, Utah. This particular story centers on Likho, the goddess of Chaos, who’s definitely the baddest villain in the series. Like all her books, Weaved is fast-paced, quirky fun, and full of whimsy. Definitely a series to check out, especially for UF
The series has been gearing up for a showdown between nephew and aunt since the beginning. Well, it's here. Fast paced with new enemies, friends, and frenemies. In the end, coffee and lavender muffins. Tom out
Great series but I'm not sure I'm loving this ending. A bit of a let down but the series is worth a read. It's not a horrible ending, but it's not.... fun? Great? A bit trite? A downer. I'm not sure how to put it it. More of an ehhhh than a Yay! Still a decent series.
