Review:
Love love love the couples especially George and Amita who is just so adorable together though their age-gap is quite big but their love for each other is so sweet and also love that Will is trying his best to take care of Elise who is not really well because she is pregnant and he is the peacemaker which feel that everyone deserves a second chance and he has a forgiving spirit in him. And the action and adventure was so cool and fun and couldn’t be more proud of Alice though she felt that she is not good enough but she press on in continue the training and the task that she is set out to. The friendship between George, Amita, Palmiro and Alice are just so sweet all of them have each other in exploring the North and also to find her father. They work together and encourage one another and Amita and George even trained Alice together. And Amita and Elise were worried about her because they don’t know what her father will do to her. And also love that Alice still love her father though the way he treats her but she doesn’t have to worry because Blake will protect her no matter what. This story is about forgiveness and also working as a team and also relying on God in whatever circumstances they face. It made me cry, laugh, smile, swoon and also feel the sweet friendship between all of the characters.

This the 3rd book of Unity Series. And to understand the story better, please do read the 1st two books of the series.

I was gifted complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own. Thank you, @sophie_toovey for the ARC!

Honestly - Sophie’s books are getting better and better and I am thrilled that this trilogy will in fact have at least a fourth book coming, because there is so much more to tell about Whitecroft’s people and their adventures, I’m sure of it!

I personally just love Sophie’s writing style and her world building. There is always something calm and steady about her stories, even when the characters experience terrifying and heartbreaking situations.

But Sophie’s strongest point is her character development. Her characters feel so real and relatable. There are real redemption stories and everytime a character’s actions made me feel uneasy, Sophie addresses the issue at one point. But she lets you wait for a while, sometimes the character growth only becomes obvious after quite some time. I came to love this about Sophie’s stories. They are not predictable. And her character’s aren’t either.

The adventures continue and the stakes seem to become higher and higher. There are still unanswered questions, but since the series will continue, I hope to learn more about the new secrets Alice and her friends discovered. I can’t say much about the plot without spoilers, so I won’t. I can just say that you will find mystery and intrigue, friendships and romance, grief and suffering but also hope and healing.

Like I said, what I loved the most are the wonderful characters and their relationships. I wasn’t completely sure about Blake in the last book, but he absolutely redeemed himself and he is a wonderful example of how Sophie’s characters are complex and multidimensional, how they make mistakes and how they ask for forgiveness. How Sophie creates flawed characters that you can feel for, that you can relate to and empathize with and that she does so without compromising the truth of what is right and wrong.

Needless to say, Alice remains my favorite. Her redemption story is amazing! And there is another redemption story coming I can’t wait for!!!

But I also loved Elise’s character arc. If you think she learned her lesson in book 1 you will want to read this! I really really felt for poor Elise. She was aware of her own bitterness and whining, she was aware of how unfair she treated Will. But she was somehow stuck and I think this made her feel even worse. Like I said - such real, authentic, relatable characters! Because how often do we realize that we are wrong in what we say, in how we behave - and we still continue.

I realized that I tend to highlight a lot of passages in Sophie’s books. She always gives you something to think about. I think there are profound truths in her books about grief and loss, about betrayal and forgiveness, about love and marriage, about change and redemption.

I will only quote two of those highlighted passages, because I think how Will and Elise’s relationship evolved in this book was beautiful in its authenticity.

“Maybe marriage is a constant dance of nearness and distance, and the key is to keep moving together.”

“This is unity: not the absence of disagreement, but the presence of love that binds us irrevocably.”

I love this series more and more and can’t wait for the next book - I already know there will be an awesome character arc!

This was my first read from Sophie, and this story also dropped me into the third book in the Unity series. It took me a little bit to get the cast of characters straight because I didn't get all the world building of the first few books before diving in. But when Sophie said dystopian with Regency vibes, how could I refuse?

The plot: Whitecroft is a post-apocalyptic sea town with only 100 people, where the events happen in the future, but everything feels like the past. There is a President Snow-type figurehead in the General, who has been dethroned at the time of this story, but continues to pose a threat. The Council of Whitecroft realizes they might not be the only people left in their area. Alice leaves Whitecroft to determine whether her father, the General, will be out for revenge.

What I loved: This story had a really unique plot. While, yes, we love a good bad guy take down, the real theme is redemption for those who are left in the wake of the old guard's mistakes. Relationships are restored, the freedom of choice is offered, maturity is attained when leadership is required, and there is even a little justice. There were multiple POVs in the story, but Alice and Elise's are the ones that really seem to matter. They require the most healing in all their relationships. They get their HEAs, but everything isn't tidied up with a perfect bow.

‘You want a place at the table? You need to own it. It’s yours. Your father may not value you or listen to you as he should, but you’ve got to stop allowing his viewpoint to be the filter through which you see the world. It’s not a healthy lens.’

Sophie is an amazing world builder and gave us very relatable characters without making things feel too much like fantasy. The characters were flawed, even the best of them, but that allowed undercurrent of hope to thrive as the characters evolved.

Thank you so much, Sophie, for a complimentary copy of your wonderful story. All thoughts contained in this review are my own.

I was excited to read this third part of the Whitecroft trilogy, and it didn't disappoint! There are so many unexpected twists and turns in this saga, and I was gripped by this very different environment - Alice and her small group have sailed to unknown territory to try to unravel the mystery of what the General is up to, and to discover yet another place that they didn't know existed. But the sailing is treacherous; and the entry to this island, having to scale a huge cliff, and finding themselves closed in dark caves and caverns adds to the sense of foreboding.
This becomes quite an adventure; people are not what they seem, and I found the plot gripping. I just couldn't see how it would all end.
At the heart of the story are interwoven love stories; Amita, having grown up with Palmira on their warm, richly exotic island, has always assumed that one day they would belong to each other. But now, exposed in cold and challenging environments, she is beginning to see and understand better, Palmira's true character...perhaps they are not so well-suited. Yet George, leading the sailing, though much older and from an entirely different background, begins to awaken something in her heart...
Elise and Will, though established in their relationship, face trial; Elise is sick and ill in pregancy, and feels abandoned by Will who has responsibilites which absorb his energy and keep him away. I found it refreshing to follow characters who've done the falling-in-love bit, but now have to negotiate what happens when life deals out trials.
I think I read this far too quickly - in about two evenings - because it was so compelling, but I don't think I did it justice! I'll enjoy it just as much the second time.

Just a wonderful follow on from book 1 & 2 but with very much its own storyline.
I loved how Sophie interwove the past stories with this but kept the plot growing and moving on.
The merry band of characters is a lovely combination of personalities. And seeing those character relationships grow and develop was great.

I did feel for the storyline that Elise is dealt in this book, as she is the protagonist in the original book I missed her inclusion in book 3. That being said, I feel Sophie has done a real great job of putting some harsh realities in this storyline with William and Elise. It’s much closer to real life and real relationships than wish fulfilment. So that was refreshing.

The world of the unity series feels even more developed and real by the continuation is this book.

A really lovely read and page turner of a book.

Oh my gosh!

I loved this book!

Two couples made me smile: George and Anita, and Will and Alice.

I also loved the tension and the teamwork!

Best quotes:

“Which of us can ever say that we love our Creator perfectly, all of the time?’‘None of us,’ she says.‘Exactly!’ he says. ‘But he loves us, even when we don’t love him. That’s how we know what love is, and that’s how we find love for people who don’t love us back.”

“I had many years of disappointment,’ he says. ‘Now that I found you, I don’t want to waste any time. But I want your family’s blessing.’‘All right,’ I whisper. ‘Now kiss me again. Properly.”

“There is no freedom from pain when you love someone,’ Palmiro says philosophically. ‘But there is no healing without love either.”

I really enjoyed this creative and unique dystopian story. The author's storytelling is a delight and the characters in this book are so life like and relatable. I have loved seeing the world expand throughout the series and meet, and get to see the point of view of, new characters. Each of them has their own unique voice. This book was a fascinating tale filled with themes of forgiveness and second chances that packed a powerful message into an exciting and adventurous story. I also loved the romance. Watching all of the couples start to fall in love (or back in love) was precious and I loved getting to see them all start to have their own happily ever afters. Would totally recommend this book. 4.5 stars

The first book is my favorite. I loved the focus on the romance and I just felt like this one fell off of that and the adventure and world building side isn’t the authors strong suit. I do miss the focus on Elise and Wills story because it was finally blossoming in the first book and all we get is a strained relationship in this one. I enjoy the character development in everybody but then they all start to blend together and feel the same with no striking personality. Even Arnold Crest. Elise feels like she isn’t Elise anymore and is only full of anger when she used to be full of optimism. It was just so sad reading about her. She kinda went backwards. I’ll still read the next book and books to come just to finish out the storyline

The Bay of Knives is book 3 in The Unity Series. I'll be honest, this one was so hard for me to get into. I didn't even really like it for the first 1/3-1/2 because the characters were making me crazy. But once it kicked in, I was invested and by the end, I really enjoyed it. And better still, it made me excited to read book 4.

I love a good redemption arc and this book delivers several, in various forms and to varying degrees. All in all, I would definitely recommend this if you like dystopian fiction with a side of Jane Austen.

As the third instalment in the Unity series, Bay of Knives follows on the story of the residents of Whitecroft in this dystopian post-apocalyptic world. The narrative follows the protagonists navigating this oppressive environment, confronting challenges that test their beliefs and resilience as their small world gets ever so much bigger.

💭 ℳ𝓎 𝓉𝒽ℴ𝓊𝑔𝒽𝓉𝓈 💭 3.5

I was given the opportunity to read and review all three books of this series, and I am so glad Sophie gave me the opportunity to do so.

First, I’d like to start by saying how easy I found these books to read. It’s not often I am able to finish three books in three days, and this was the case with this series. The language used and the world building was very simple, and easy-going, yet effective, and I found myself immersed in the world Of Whitecroft without even realising.

The characters and their arcs were definitely the most enjoyable part of this series for me. I love the relationships formed, the personal growth each of them had and the message that love is not a given, but something that requires work, dedication and understanding.

Elise did fall in my estimations as well as her relationship with a certain someone (no spoilers here). She lost the fire in her belly and I found her to be quite whiney throughout the book. And, I know, her perspective was very relatable and true to what the reality of marriage and family is, but I couldn’t help but find her a little irrelevant to the story, always holding grudges and complaining.

I did love the message of unity and faith that run through the book, and I feel the author really captured the emotions of what life would be like after an apocalypse.

My only but would be the plot itself. As much as I loved the multiple POVS and the world created, I found the plot to be slightly lacking and the adventure the characters went on fell a little flat. Many questions arose during this book to which I didn’t receive answers, and I felt there lacked meaning to the quest they embarked upon.

The first book was a great starter, the second book revealed different perspectives and worlds and as the third book in the series, I expected there to be much more action in this than there was.

That being said, Alice remains to be my favourite character, and her new relationship had me smiling from ear to ear!

If you want an easy-going dystopian post apocalyptic read, I recommend giving this series a go!

This is the third installment in the Day of the Dice series and I absolutely loved it. Each book has continued to develop the intriguing world of Whitecroft. With a fantastic ensemble of characters and multiple points of view, Sophie Toovey has managed to change my mind (yet again!) about characters I had previously seen as mere obstacles to be overcome. For me, that slow and satisfying evolution through the series has kept me engaged and invested. Book three sees many previous questions answered as each beloved character is pushed to the brink and left changed by new relationships and new challenges. I have (through book two and three) become a massive fan of Alice! And while so many plot points have been resolved, I still hope for more installments.

The Bay of Knives by Sophie Toovey is the third book in the Unity series. It has been described as Divergent meets Bridgerton, which is a really accurate description of this post-apocalyptic clean romance. When I was first given the opportunity to read this series I was a little apprehensive, simply because this world is a little dystopian these days, but I am so glad that I read it. Sophie Toovey has built a world that is visually so comprehensive that I could picture myself in all of the locations in this book.

In addition to a continuation of the romance between Blake and Alice, we also got glimpses of Elise and Will as their marriage hit a few bumps in the road. This book also focused on the age gap romance between Amita and George, which I absolutely loved. Amita had been so fixated on her childhood crush with Palmiro that she almost missed what everyone else could see, that George was attracted to her. As their connection grows, there is a peace and a oneness about them.

Following the disappearance of The General, Alice heads north with George, Palmiro and Amita to find him. What they find is a new group of people in a frozen landscape that is very different from Whitecroft and Cape. Unfortunately things are not quite what they seem.

I never imagined at the start of the first book that by the end of the third book Alice would be my favourite character, with the biggest character growth, and that she would be surrounded by friends and family who love her unconditionally. Although this series was initially considered a trilogy, I am so attached to this new world that I really do hope for more!
