This isn't exactly the sort of book you curl up with and read from cover to cover, but as a resource for writers, it is absolutely packed with useful information. Primarily aimed at the UK market, it covers far more than simply providing lists of publishers. There is advice and information relating to books, magazines, newspapers, poetry, television, film, radio and theatre, alongside articles covering different aspects of writing and publishing.
It also contains sections on literary agents, competitions, festivals, copyright, finance, self-publishing and other useful resources. One of the things I particularly appreciated was the guidance on finding the right home for your work rather than simply firing a manuscript off in every direction and hoping for the best. There is a huge amount here.
For aspiring writers, especially those trying to understand the UK publishing industry, this is one of those books worth having nearby rather than putting back on the shelf and forgetting about. I can see myself dipping into it whenever I need information or guidance. Five stars simply because it does exactly what a good reference book should: answers questions, points you in the right direction and contains an astonishing amount of useful stuff.
