Boston Blues #1

Pitcher Us

Rate this book
Coming off a World Series win, one of the last things starting pitcher, Will Anderson anticipates is being traded to the Boston Blues.

That and the fact he isn’t being traded alone. Over the past year, his catcher’s little sister was simply that—his teammate’s sister. She was never someone Will should have felt a need to take care of, but with her fiery personality, Will finds himself caught in her blaze.

When Callie Reyer showed up on her brother’s doorstep, she promised herself no more baseball players. All season, she distanced herself from her brother’s teammates. But now, not only is she the Blue’s new team photographer, she’s moved in next door to the team’s pitcher.

When Callie and Will find themselves tiptoeing the line between being friends and wanting more, they must decide whether their relationship is worth risking the jobs they love.

Because as it turns out, dating your coworkers at the Boston Blues is strictly prohibited.

3.65 stars! 🌟 A huge thanks to Mollie Goins & Love Notes PR for the ARC! 💌 Okay, this was FUN! Not groundbreaking, not mind-blowing, but did I eat it up like my favorite comfort food? Absolutely. A baseball romance with a forbidden brother’s best friend twist? Yeah, I was all in from the start.

Tropes I devoured:
⚾ Brother’s best friend
📸 Pitcher x Team Photographer
💋 Secret Relationship
❤️ Friends to Lovers
💕 Found Family

Will Anderson, our swoony pitcher, just got traded to the Boston Blues, and guess who’s moving in next door? Callie, his catcher’s little sister and the team’s new photographer. Sparks? Oh, they’re FLYING. But, of course, workplace romances are a no-go, so these two have to keep things under wraps. And let’s be real… that just makes it 10x more fun.

Will? TOTAL book boyfriend material. 💘 Protective but not possessive. Sweet but with a little edge. And the way he looks out for Callie? I was MELTING. 🫠 Meanwhile, Callie was hilarious, chaotic in the best way, and super relatable (especially her ADHD moments). The banter between them was chef’s kiss 👌—but I do wish we got a bit more slow-burn tension before they jumped into things. It felt a bit rushed at times, but hey, I still enjoyed the ride.

A few meh moments? The nickname "Blaze"… no thank you, ick. 🚫 But the way Will handled it? PERFECTION. 😍 And their chemistry? Off. The. Charts. 🔥

Overall, Pitcher Us was a light, flirty, and entertaining read. Not super memorable, but a solid pick for sports romance lovers. If you love forbidden tension, found family vibes, and a baseball player who’s secretly obsessed with her, this one’s for you! 💙

One thing about me? I am a sucker for a brother's best friend, workplace, forced proximity romance. WOW. Mollie didn't come to play with this book! I was sucked in from the start and literally was giggling the whole time because of how down bad Will is for Callie.

Callie, her brother Adam, and his roommate/teammate, Will, are moving to Boston after being traded to the Boston Blues. Callie and Will normally stay clear of each other, but now things are a little different. She is the new team photographer and unfortunately (but not) for him, his new neighbor. He never looked at her as anything more than a friend, but now those more than friend feelings are starting to bubble up and he knows that going after his best friend's sister, that has sworn off baseball players, is probably not the best idea.

I am such an acts of service girly and the way Will takes care of Callie is so the standard. GAH. I am obsessed with this man.

Pitcher Us releases on 2.21.25 and you absolutely want this one on your TBR.

Tropes:

3.75 Stars — Sweet, Swoony, and Full of Baseball Charm

I’m always on the hunt for a good baseball romance, and Pitcher Us totally scratched that itch. This one gave us the best friend’s sister trope mixed with a classic case of opposites attract, and it was adorable.

Will is the definition of the quiet, broody type, while Callie is outgoing, bold, and unapologetically herself. Watching these two navigate their differences and slowly come together was so satisfying. They challenged each other in the best way and brought out sides of themselves that felt authentic and heartwarming.

There’s also a deeper layer here as both characters are dealing with complicated family dynamics. I loved how their relationship became a space for healing and support. Will in particular? A total book boyfriend. He is absolutely a man written by a woman, thoughtful, protective, and the embodiment of “if he wanted to, he would.”

If you’re into sports romance with a solid emotional arc and a soft hero you can’t help but root for, this one is worth picking up.

Trope - brother's best friend, secret relationship, friends to lovers, mutual pining, neighbours, team photographer × pitcher, sassy and certified yapper FMC, ADHD rep, he rides, workplace sports romance, found-family, romcom, slow burn, steamy, no third act breakup, HEA

Thank you, Love Notes PR, for providing this ARC. I enjoyed every moment of this book! Mollie, you’ve done it once again! You had me from the dedication. As a self-proclaimed yapper who has been told to quiet down, that was all I needed. Not even one chapter in and I was ready to throw hands at anyone saying anything bad about Will like how dare you!!

READ THIS BOOK! It’s PERFECT—filled with amazing main characters and side characters.

Will was truly an amazing man. He checked all the boxes: patient, loving, caring, and also a BIKER! If you know me, you know I have a thing for fictional biker men, and when I read about the bike he rides, I was completely sold! AHHH, WILL! The small efforts he made were significant, and before I knew it, I was utterly captivated.

Can we take a moment to appreciate that he calls her BLAZE?! So, unique and appropriate for Callie. DEAD His love language was acts of service, and damn that guy knew what he was doing because he was after my heart. You know, I cried a little to see the amount of effort Will put into Callie's first birthday day celebration. A guy who doesn't drink?! MY TYPE! He was so respectful throughout their relationship, and honestly, if he wasn't already the best, he definitely was now.

I loved Callie. She had her doubts but remained strong. It takes real courage to push past trauma and stand tall, and I couldn’t have been prouder of her. I screamed "YOU GO GIRL!" at the top of my lungs when she punched that guy.

Callie and Will complemented each other perfectly. The listener and yapper dynamic is always the best, and their banter was fantastic. Although some might find Will rude, I saw him as a reflection of myself. I feel like I'm a mix of Will and Callie. Am I their lost child? Their first bike ride was incredibly hot—absolutely dead!

Their first official kiss had me gasping out loud. Additionally, their chemistry was undeniable; their scenes were spicing, and both were so attractive. Their secret relationship was adorable, and I loved how everything eventually came together.

Now why were all the characters so adorable; it was like a line of dominoes falling one by one.
• Adam was such a loving, caring, and protective brother; I loved him! I have a sibling like him, and seeing how I relate to Callie made it all clear. Every Callie needs an Adam to support and love them. I cried my eyes out at their bond, thrilled that they could leave the toxicity behind and move forward in their lives.
• Will’s sisters were hilarious and loving, I loved them from the get-go.
• Jensen was my girl.
• Beck was the perfect golden retriever, he reminded me of Carter Beckett.
• Miles and Stevie stole the show with their cuteness.
• Jett and Wyla's cameo was cute.

I loved how the found family trope played out in the story. I couldn't stop smiling; this book was just adorable! It took me through a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, tears, and love. I screamed out loud and cried so many times that I lost track of why I was feeling those emotions in the first place.

I believe this will become one of my favourite sports romances in future. The absence of a third-act breakup was a bonus. The ending and epilogue were so sweet and beautiful.

It was a great book, and I definitely recommend it.
Overall, I’d give it 4.75/5

I loved reading from both their povs. it was sad to learn about callie and adam’s childhood. will was so sweet and thoughtful, the way he went into the tea shop before they even became friends. he always looked out for her and paid attention to the details. I don't usually read baseball romances but this may change that. guys i actually loved this please check it out once it releases and complete review will come soon

Mollie has done it again folks! I am completely and utterly in love with this story. Pitcher Us is truly a breath of fresh air. As a friends-to-lovers fan girl, this checked all of the boxes for me.

Callie is Will's teammate's sister AND Callie works for the same team Will Pitches for. (Are you with me?!) So their relationship is forbidden from all angles. Still, after a few months of living next door to each other, their mutual attraction is undeniable and they enter into a secret relationship.

Will met Callie exactly where she was and let her shine. He reminded her to show up as herself unapologetically and encouraged her to truly lean into every element of herself. On the flip side, Callie added an element of brightness and joy to Will's life as more of an introverted character. These two fit beautifully together and I loved the balance they provided one another.

I found myself describing this book to a friend as the feeling of drinking ice cold water... truly refreshing. The low angst and lack of third act breakup made this the perfect relaxing read.

I have a new favorite Mollie Goins book. Holy crap do I love Will Anderson.

Pitcher Us is a workplace, brother’s best friend romance between an MLB pitcher and the team photographer. You can expect funny internal dialogue that is way too relatable and a man that observes and delivers what his girl needs and really you can just expect to love this book because it’s awesome.

William Anderson can do no wrong and I will accept zero criticism. From the very start he had me hooked. He’s the silent type and just observes Callie. He’s never viewed her as anything but his best friend/teammates sister but that ship sails pretty quickly. This man is dreamboat… the birthday party he plans for when their friendship was just budding! are you kidding me?? I was a puddle

This booked delivered everything you’d ever need in a romance novel. Swoony mmc that has a filthy mouth and puts his girl before everyone and everything. The fmc that is full of fire and quirks that make you fall for her immediately. Callie is high energy and it shows in her internal dialogue and it was so different from any character I’ve read. It was relatable and so freaking FUNNY.

Okkk now the spice in this book was spicin’. It was well placed and the tension was off the charts. And I say this all the time but it’s always the quiet ones with the filthiest mouths😮‍💨 The polaroid scene… that one lives rent free in my head.

There were so many moments I was cracking up and kicking my feet. I love this book more than words can express. Thank you Mollie for the opportunity to be able to read this early copy and be a part of your team! I am so grateful.

"I don't know what it was, if we're being honest. I just knew that I kept seeking you out everywhere I went. I kept looking for any excuse to be near you-hung onto every word you said."

This is my first book by this author, and OMG, I LOVED it!!! The cover is adorable (in my favorite color!), and the story inside is just as fantastic. I can't even count how many times I smiled, laughed, and giggled while reading. Thank goodness I was in my room, or I might have felt silly! Seriously, this book is a treasure! The chemistry, the tension, the playful sibling banter, the humor, the friendships—it's all there! I even shed a few tears and it also had so many swoony moments. In short, this book is PERFECTION! It's now my go-to comfort read!

Callie's been living with her brother for a while, and when he and his teammate Will move to Boston, she decides to tag along. She hasn’t spent much time with her brother's previous team, and neither has Will, so they haven’t interacted much at all. But everything changes when they end up as neighbors in their new apartment, and Callie becomes the new photographer for the team. They start seeing each other more often, and feelings begin to develop.

Will Anderson is my new book boyfriend! He’s the quiet type who likes to observe rather than hang out with friends. But when it comes to Callie, he wants to be around her and loves to hear her chatter. The way he is so thoughtful and attentive completely melted my heart! He always knows what she needs, and I’m such a sucker for those little acts of service. By the time I finished the book, I was a total puddle!

Callie is brave, strong, and independent. My heart went out to her for everything she’s been through. Even with her awful parents and a terrible ex, she doesn’t let anything dim her light. I admired her for finally cutting ties and finding her way to her brother. She has such a sunny personality, and I loved seeing how the other players on the team were ready to support and defend her.

Along with Will and Callie's love story, I enjoyed the playful sibling banter and all the fun meddling side characters. Every scene where they hung out together made me laugh. Overall, this book was a delight, and I can't recommend it enough! If you're looking for a quick, light, and easy read filled with swoon-worthy moments, humor, and great characters, pick this one up! It’s 1000% worth it!

I was bewitched, spellbound if you will, by this book. It had all the right ingredients for my favorite comfort meal - a "workplace" sports (baseball) romance book + secret relationship + brother's teammate + delicious banter + steamy moments that added to the overall story.

Will is a total dream of a book boyfriend. He is constantly showing Callie through big and small gestures how down bad he is for her (the birthday TEA). Callie was MY GIRL. I relate so deeply to her brain. & I love how Will was the calm to her chaos.

Beklediğimden daha çok sevdim.😍AĞAĞAĞAĞAĞA
O KADAR TATLIYDI KI . Will harika biriydi gerçekten ufak detaylar beni eritti.

the boston blues might just be one of the most wholesome sports romance novels out there! will & callie's relationship felt so natural that the development of their friendship into something more was felt so healthy and genuine. their chemistry didn't feel forced at all. i loved the treading between 'should we or should we not?'. kinda makes me wish for that kind of lovestory, but don't we all? to be loved is to be seen and will made sure callie felt that! not to mention callie's also such a messy but beautiful character that perfectly fit the spaces of will's life.

“Good boy.”

STOP IT. This was such a cute story! It was my first book from Mollie but definitely looking forward to reading more from her.

Will and Callie had such great chemistry and their dialogue was funny and endearing. Will was so dang sweet to her, there were so many swoony moments that had me grinning like an idiot.

The brother’s best friend and forbidden romance tropes were really well written with an original twist.

Also, loved the slow burn!

Highly recommend this one for the baseball lovers. 🫶

I'm so sorry, I didn't realize we were writing complete sports bangers now. Apparently I didn't get Mollie's memo that the Boston Blues were about to take over sports romance. I had so many highlights in this book it's practically neon at this point. I knew Callie as going to revisit her "no baseball players" rule when she told Wyla about it back in Despite it All, but I didn't know who she'd break it with. Then her brother is traded and she tags along, and who else happened to be traded at the same time? Will Anderson.

Will and Callie have chemistry from the beginning, but neither of them move to act on their attraction. Callie has been convinced by the evil witch-with-a-b Shannon that dating Will would be against the rules and cost her her job as the team photograph for the Blues. Will is convinced that Callie's brother, Adam, would probably lose his type A mind if he so much as looked at Callie with too much interest. Eventually the two can't deny themselves anymore and hook up, then decide pretty quickly that neither of them wants it to be a one night type of thing so they have a go at keeping the relationship on the down low. They do a pretty good job of it for a while until Blues hot shot and team jokester Beck Daines finds out about their secret relationship (this scene had be screaming with laughter) and confirms that the sh*t will definitely hit the fan if someone finds out.

Enter scum of the earth and Callie's ex boyfriend Nic. I hate him almost as much as I hate Shannon, and you'll read this book and think I should hate him more, but he's Callie's past and she takes care of it well enough that I feel like I don't need to shower him with hatred. Actually, Callie AND Will take care of him and it is completely epic.

I love how the relationship between these two develops and how Will accepts EVERY part of Callie and is so down bad for her I'm not sure she could ever push him away. The only issue that both of them have is being too in their own heads about putting the other person first and sacrificing themselves, which isn't so much an issue but a little communication about the topic would go a long way.

I am so excited for the new characters in this world to get their stories and be fleshed out. I'm crossing my fingers for Dex and Lucie (and Miles) next, but to be honest I can't wait to see who Beck Daines falls for. He is my favorite Blue I'm pretty sure, and I thought it might be Reagan but that seems to be out of the picture.

Will Anderson is absolute perfection as a cinnamon roll MMC but has a dirty mouth, so you get the best of both worlds.

🩵 Team Photographer X Pitcher
⚾️ Brother’s Teammate
🩵 Secret relationship
⚾️ Found family
🩵 Friends to lovers
⚾️ Mutual pining

📖 Pitcher Will Anderson, along with his Catcher, have just been traded to the Boston Blues. Well, turns out his Catcher has a sister Callie who will also be moving with them. The problem? The more time Will and Callie spend together, the more they can’t stay away. Only they’re not just afraid of what her brother will think. They’re also prohibited from dating because she’s the team photographer and he’s the pitcher.

This was such a sweet baseball romance. Will was absolute book boyfriend perfection and I loved all the ways he silently took care of Callie and made her feel valued. He paid attention and acted accordingly. That’s a MAN 👏🏼

The tension was so good and I loved the banter between the 2 MCs. The found family aspect was so heartwarming. From the interactions with the teammates and Will’s family, there was love in every sentence of this story and I couldn’t put it down!

🌶️ Will’s MOUTH!! I was so impressed with this sweet man and all the ways he WASN’T so sweet 😏. This is a man who truly worships his woman. And that Polaroid moment?? 🥵 sheesh!

‼️TLDR : This was such a sweet & swoony bingeable baseball romance! If you love the listed tropes and a perfect cinnamon roll MMC, definitely add this to your TBR 😍

Thank you so much to Mollie Goins & LoveNotes PR for the arc of Pitcher Us in exchange for my honest review 🖤.

Thank you to Mollie Goins & Love Notes PR for the opportunity to review an ARC of this title!

I really enjoyed this one! I haven't read nearly as many baseball romances as I have hockey or football, so this was a fun change of pace for me. The characters are all so lovable - even the side characters - and the plot was cute and fun without being too overly dramatic.

Callie's ADHD (confirmed with the author) was so relatable for me, as I also have ADHD and wasn't diagnosed until adulthood so it's always nice to see that rep, especially when it's done with such attention. Callie never outright says she has ADHD, nor did any other character bring it up by name, but we see it in her actions and thoughts. It was so fun being able to find a little part of myself in Callie!

Will..... ok, swoon. What a guy. I really loved Will, even when he was making his silly little excuses like "I'll tell her brother we should stop by this tea shop because her incessant shivering is annoying me. No other reason." It was really great seeing how much attention he paid to ensuring Callie felt comfortable around him and that consent was given, especially after Callie brought up moments in her past where men had made her uncomfortable in passing.

All the way around, this was a fun read and I'd definitely read more in the series when they release in the future!

i am looking for a new sport romance series to give me the same feels as windy city/vancouver storm/d.c. stars! i have high hopes for this series.

this first book was very sweet, although a little bland as the friends to lover trope usually can be for me. the banter could have bantered more but i still very much enjoyed the relationship and the friendship/found family aspect in this book! i mostly read this book because i know i am going to love the second book (single dad + coach falling for player’s sister… yeah count me in).

If you ever want to know who I am in real life, read this book because I am Callie lol

“I love you,” she whispers. “I love you too, Blaze.” I cup her face. “Now where’d you put the Polaroid camera?”

Pitcher Us was everything I didn’t know I needed. It had heart and spice all rolled into the sports romance of my dreams!

I adored Will and Callie’s relationship from the very beginning! Their friend’s to lovers story was so unique and honestly one of the sweetest written words I have ever read. Watching how their love flourished throughout the book was exactly what I needed to read to lighten my heart.

Callie is me, and I am Callie. Like I am not kidding when I say that if you want to know the real Alex Crow read this book because I have never related more to a character in my life. Callie is sweet and sassy with so much chaotic energy it’s insane. She is the true meaning of an introverted extrovert, who will talk your ear off when she is comfortable or when there is awkward silence! Callie loves hard but due to past experiences finds it hard to let her walls down.

Enter Will F*cking Anderson!! This man is the definition of simp in the best way. I mean who goes out of their way to go into what he believes to be a coffee shop just so Callie can get warm? He is such a gentleman when they are in “secret public” but my god his dirty side comes out in the bedroom 🥵 He is the true golden boy book boyfriend who is caring has no problem sticking up for those he cares about.

I love that they both grow together and push each other to find their passion again for the things they love. Also the introduction of Will and Adam’s new teammates makes me so excited for this new series!!

This book was everything and while I LOVED her first series I know this book will probably go down as my favorite of hers 💙 Mollie you absolutely killed it my girl! Words aren’t enough to encapsulate what Callie means to me as a character!
