The next generation of the bestselling Power of Five must find their fated mate—and Kai’s just happens to be human... and his sworn enemy.

ROWAN

I’m an alchemist, not a soldier. But when your mother is an ambitious war hero and your rare magic is the key to defending the kingdom from draken-riding fae, you don’t get a choice.

So here I am—gritting my teeth through brutal drills, hiding the growing dizzy spells, and wondering how much more my defective body can take before it breaks.

Then the three most powerful men claim me for their squad, and my world tilts. Kai, Kyrian and Logan are gorgeous, cold, and far too dangerous. Their every glance is a challenge, every touch sparks heat I can’t ignore. It feels like fate is pulling us together—whether I’m ready or not.

But the trio hides dangerous secrets. They are fae. Enemy agents sent to steal my magic and tear apart all I’ve swore to protect… and I may already be too deep to escape.

light, addictive, quick, fast-paced, enjoyable fun!! no one really stuck out to me, and the majority of the overarching plot was just kinda a redo of "fourth wing" (including the characteristics of the fmc), but nonetheless i was entertained. i love a trashy, fun rh read!!

This one really did it for me! It was reminiscent of Fourth Wing, but it had a plot point similar to that of From Blood And Ash. It was great! I wish there weren't different POV's so the twist would have hit me blind but alas.

This was a faced - paced, engaging story where the draken and the humans are at war, but not everything is at it seems at first glance.
The FMC does possess unique gift, as an alchemist, she is capable of producing the one thing that is deadly to the draken - the right type of a weapon. Rowan and s a very tender soul and despite the constant downturns in her life, she manages to devote time and effort to help those in need. When selected to join Grayson's team, things do take quite the unexpected turn.
The gentlemen here do have a hidden agenda and I wonder how all shall play out.
Off to the next book, hopefully it is just as good.

The first Alex Lidell book I read was Last Chance Academy. I absolutely loved the series but haven't read an Alex book since, so it's been a while.  Then I decided to grab Power of Draken, and it was awesome!

Rowen has such a big heart and a "naive goodness" about her. She has no business being at a war college, and she knows it, but she has family obligations and all that. One thing I can say is that she never quits, and she always sees the best in others even when she probably (and sometimes most definitely) shouldn't have. Ro was very easy to sympathize with and connect to. I simply adored her.

Somehow she finds herself in the orbit of the Triad. Kai, Kyr, and Logan. Unlike Alex's Immortals of Talonwood series, this one isn't a bully romance. Alex could have easily taken it in that direction, but the guys fell first instead. I loved how protective and caring they were of Ro. They were her champions in all things, even if Kai didn't always make it seem that way. Good thing too, because I hated Ro's boyfriend with a passion.

Obviously, I enjoyed the plot. I haven't read many books with a war college as a setting, so it's still refreshing. Then there was Ro and the guys growing closer, good (but not all nice) side characters that add just enough contrast to the subtle romance. The little hints of the guys' secret being teased throughout the story add to the tension, and let's not forget the war game, things escalate fairly quickly after that.

Holy cow! What an ending! First off, Collin so needs to get what's coming to him, and second, I need answers about Rowan because things aren't adding up. I knew it was coming, but I never could have imagined this. The last bit of the book was just savage. I can't wait for the next one.

Power of Draken is the first book in the Fated to the Draken Riders series, which is a why choose fantasy romance. Perfect for fans of fated mates, and readers who love the dragon rider connection from Fourth Wing- this book is set in the same world of Lunos as some of Alex's other series. One of the main characters, Kai is a next generation from the original Lunos series- Power of Five. You do not need

Power of Five is one of my favorite fantasy why choose romances, and since then I have been gobbling them up. Alex Lidell writes fantastic romantasy with epic powers, great world building and sizzling romance. Once I pick one of her books up, I don't set it down until I am done and desperate for the next one, and Power of Draken is no different. I absolutely loved this book and I cannot wait for the next one.

In Power of Draken, we meet our main character Rowan, who is an alchemist that is training at a war college. When she gets put in a squad with three of the most feared soldiers- Kai, Kyr, and Logan, things really start to get interesting. Told mainly in Rowan's point of view with sprinkling of chapters from each of the guys point of view this book was a great blend of world building setting the stage for fierce tension and animosity between the fae and humans, as well as romantic tension that was excellent. I loved that Rowan got to know each of the guys, and she has different connections with them all. Overall this book was over way too quickly and I need more.

Power of Draken is the why choose romance version of Fourth Wing, and I loved every second of it. Bring on book 2 right now! If you have not checked out Alex Lidell's books, you are really missing out. I have read almost all of them and they are all addictively bingeable.

It has the feel of Fourth Wing and ACOTAR. Not the watered-down copy, but an attempt at something new, possibly something fresh. It's hard to tell as it's the first book and so much is happening with the plot and characters - there's so many directions the author can take it. From where the Cliffie was left, I'm optimistic that it's going to be a drama-filled ride full of fiery times and spicy fun.

The characters are working their way to becoming complex with a compelling background that is intriguing and gripping. The plot, while it is one that feels told before, is different enough because of the world the author is creating. I just hope the author gives us a little bit more of the background on the back story to this world in the next upcoming books.

Overall, besides a few grammatical errors which may be due to the ARC copy, I found this to be both an intriguing and compelling story and look forward to the next. I will definitely be read the next.

I'm a huge fan of Power Of Five and was excited to read something else by Alex. This was pretty similar to Forth Wing but RH. I don't really enjoy that aspect and there were alot of grammar mistakes. I wish there was a little more world building about the Drakens and fae. Interested to see how Rowan will react.

This was a really fun read. Definitely felt like Fourth Wing, but make it a harem, and I’m not mad about that at all. I actually liked this more. It had all the secrets, betrayal, and angst-ridden romance that I’m a big fan of.
I did get irritated with the FL and her excuses for that one bozo, but I get that when you’ve know someone for a long time you tend to wish for the best when it comes to intentions. I’ve been that naive girl so I can’t hold it against her. I want to see her kill him in the future though. He’s such a manipulator. It’s almost too real just how abusive he is. The author did a very good job with his character.
Ellie is great, but she just felt like she was there to support Rowan. I’d like to get more from her character in the next book and more of the friendship between the two women.
I’m also really enjoying the guys. Some parts were frustrating but they are each complex characters with various issues that make their actions make sense even if I don’t love them.
Super excited for the next book.

I’ve been a fan of Alex Lidell for some time and appreciate her ability to create incredible worlds and characters. This was no exception, and I had an incredible time getting lost in the new fantasy world we are introduced to.

The world building in Book 1 lays out a strong groundwork for this new series. It’s always exciting for me to read while the FMC in the training and realization phase of her purpose. I’m excited to see how much larger the reader’s world view gets as the four of them continue on their journey as right now it is a fairly limited scope. Per usual we did leave off with a cliffhanger, but I was expecting it which made it less bad and honestly, it wasn’t the absolute worst way to leave off a book.

I absolutely loved our FMC and her men. With this being a relatively slow burn and the first in the series I knew there wouldn’t be a ton of spice- but I absolutely loved what we got. I am eagerly awaiting when the entire crew gets together. I think it will be well worth the wait.

Plot: 5/5 • Smut: 4/5 —————> This. Was. So. Good. Three fae undercover in a human camp where they’re are leaders in something called the triad. They are expected to train the weakest link, also the FMC, to become stronger in battle. (strength and agility) After a getting caught by the mercenaries, things begin to unfold and the FMC has to come to terms she’s being kidnapped by the fae for her alchemy skills. The smut is good. There’s fae, drakon, shifter. so good. wish it didn’t land on such a huge cliffy. I want book two now.

I'm going to be honest, I am not a big fan of Why Choose or Reverse Harem but I read Alex's series, the Power of Five and really enjoyed it. I didn't even know much about this book but saw who wrote it and decision made. Alex does Fae so well and I didn't need to know anything else. I did, halfway through the read, look up more about the story because I could see the writing on the wall and I was right, this is another why choose/reverse harem but that's okay. I kept reading anyway because I have faith in her story telling that I was already hooked, anyway.

That being said, I need more. I loved the story, the world and especially the characters. Our FMC, Rowan was spectacular. She was fiesty (oh so fiesty), smart, strong (even if not physically) and funny.

Her boyfriend, Collin Chambers, is a piece of work and I wish the worst on him. He's an awful person and she deserved so much better than all those wasted years with him.

That said, our MMC which I guess would be Kai but also Kyrian and Logan - LOVED them. Logan, I'd say, is my least favorite. He grew on me but obviously Kai was meant to grab our attention before he even appeared in the story but it was really Kyr who stole my heart. These guys are all the best of friends (brothers, really) and really bad ass and in charge of training.

If you've read any of Alex Lidell's other work and enjoyed it, I'm sure you already have this on your radar, as it should. If you've never read anything then I suggest you pick this up. It's not long but it's so very enjoyable. The story, the world and especially the characters are fantastic. Even if you're not in to Why Choose or Reverse Harem, I implore you to give it a try. You may be surprised by this.

Was it really necessary to drive home the fact that one of the MMCs is a playboy by having the FMC walk in on him fucking someone else and have him keep going? 😭 Yikes.

Boring and weak

This author's writes the typical weak, pathetic, and boring FMC. Good on the smut but not on characters development or in making the heroine a fighter. On this one, the heroine is verbally abused by the mother, boyfriend, passes out, clumsy, and has low self esteem. Don't get why the heroine is pathetic. Nothing happened on this book except to tell repeatedly how weak and pathetic the FMC is and the boyfriend cheats. The big turned off for me was when one of the h was shown sexing up another women even though it was before meeting the heroine. Just gross though. Don't care for books with OW and MMC sexy scenes. I give up on this author. Liked the Five series books but that's about it. Boring and predictable. Can't recommend this one.

Wow.

This book was not at all what I expected it to be but I really enjoyed it. Rowan is a great FMC and I am very curious about her illness, and how this is going to develop.

The guys are fun characters and I liked seeing things from their sides too.

Excited to see how this series unfolds.

I love reading the authors works, the worlds are always so enthralling and this didn't disappoint either.
The world building made it really easy to imagine, and the characters were all captivating too.
I really liked all the of the MCs in this, especially with the FMC having relatable vulnerability too.
My only wish for this would be that there is more focus on the budding relationships between the FMC and the MMCs at the start. It felt like there were too many time hops, and parts summarised. But I know this is a personal preference, as some readers don't like too much of the "getting to know each other" part and what more progression.
The plot and world building were done really well, and I just wanted to keeping turning the page for more and wasnt ready for it to end.

OMG. How did this get published?

This is going to be one of those TL;DR reviews. It won’t be brief.

I don’t want to be mean. I’m not writing this with that intention. But goodness, I wish I was warned.

I liked the power of five series or whatever it was. It’s been so long since I read that I can’t remember if it was this bad. I do recall it being super cringe filled though. It’s the only reason I started this one. Goodness do I regret that choice 100%. I’d say the only pro here is that it’s incredibly short. Of course that also works against the actual story. But I seriously would not have been able to take much more. The fact I finished is shocking to me actually.

I cannot handle books written so poorly that it’s clear the author has no handle on the technicalities of writing. Here there is zero. All of the errors do nothing but pull you out of the story. Non-sensical sentences? Check. Atrocious grammar? Check. Unbelievably horrid punctuation? Triple check. I don’t even know what to say about the punctuation. All that comes to mind is WTAF?

Reading a book written by someone lacking the most basic fundamentals of writing is like seeing a doctor who has absolutely no knowledge of the human body.

Not only it is this a complete and utter duplication of Fourth wing on soooo many levels, but the writing is embarrassingly bad. The level of cringe is through the roof. It’s so predictable and cliched. The MFC is literally TSTL in every way. Author flip flops constantly on who the MFC is (behavior/personality). Other characters don’t even have real personalities. The list goes on and on.

There is far too much for me to waste my time putting it all down. However, I will update with the many ways that it is literally identical to Fourth Wing, simply because that just isn’t ok.

And if someone could remove the “-“ key from the authors keyboard that would be amazing. I don’t know what would possess anyone to believe that the punctuation was even acceptable. I’m truly blown away by how incorrect it was. Who uses so many dashes? Who starts paragraphs and dialogue with a dash? Many should be commas, but some are just out of left field. Quality editing is necessary!

Moral of the story, my pet hamster could write a better book. If you expect a book written by someone who actually knows how to write, save yourself.
(Full disclosure, I don’t actually have a pet hamster. Not the point of the statement though.)

Power of Draken by Liddell is an enthralling fantasy that masterfully combines a gripping reverse harem romance with rich world-building and dynamic character development. At the heart of the story is Rowan, a relatable and sympathetic protagonist, whose internal struggles with her identity and growing magical powers are portrayed with depth and authenticity. Her journey of self-discovery and empowerment pulls readers in, and it's easy to root for her as she navigates the complexities of her new life in a world of fae and danger.

One of the standout features of the novel is the development of the three male leads, each of whom brings a distinct personality and set of motivations to the story. Whether it’s the mysterious, brooding warrior or the charismatic yet conflicted protector, each character is crafted with care, and their evolving relationships with Rowan form the emotional core of the book. The chemistry between the characters is undeniable, and fans of slow-burn romance will be fully satisfied with the tension and depth that builds throughout the story.

Liddell’s writing is evocative and immersive, creating a vivid and believable world where magic is woven seamlessly into the fabric of the narrative. The action sequences are particularly gripping, with well-choreographed battles and tense moments that keep the pace high and the stakes even higher. The magical elements are integrated smoothly into the plot, with intriguing fae lore that adds richness to the overall story.

In conclusion, Power of Draken is a must-read for fans of fantasy, romance, and reverse harem stories. With its well-developed characters, compelling world-building, and thrilling action, it offers everything readers could want in a captivating fantasy tale. If you're looking for a book full of heart, magic, and steamy romance, Power of Draken will not disappoint.

Alex Liddell's "Power of Draken" is a thrilling new addition to the Lunos universe. Though it's part of a larger series, this book stands perfectly well on its own, introducing readers to a captivating world of fae, shifters, and magic.

The story follows Rowan, an alchemist with a rare and powerful magic, who is thrust into a world of danger and intrigue when she is claimed by three powerful fae warriors who are hiding their identities. The plot is fast-paced and action-packed, with plenty of twists and turns to keep readers on the edge of their seats. But it's not just about the action; a simmering romance lies at the heart of this story. Rowan finds herself drawn to all three of her fae protectors, each offering something unique and compelling. The author expertly crafts a slow-burn romance that builds tension and anticipation with every interaction.

One of the highlights of the book is the character development. Rowan is a relatable and sympathetic protagonist, and her struggles with her identity and her growing powers are convincingly portrayed. The three male leads are equally well-developed, each with their own unique personalities and motivations. The chemistry between the characters is undeniable, and the slow-burn romance is sure to satisfy fans of the genre.

Liddell's writing is evocative and immersive, creating a vivid and believable world. The action sequences are particularly well-written, and the magical elements are seamlessly integrated into the story.

Overall, "Power of Draken" is a fantastic read for fans of why choose fantasy romance. With its engaging plot, well-developed characters, exciting world-building, and a captivating romance, this book is sure to be a hit.

Rowan is an alchemist with rare power, not a soldier. However, she comes from a long line of fierce warrior women. Her mother is a war hero and her aunt rules the country, so it's expected that she will take her place beside them. Unfortunately, she is no soldier with her weak body prone to dizziness and fainting spells. When the three most powerful men in their military academy take her into their squad, she assumes it is to impress her mother. Kai, Kyrian, and Logan are far more dangerous than the other students. Their strength, intelligence, skill, and beauty far exceed the rest of their classmates. There's a reason. They are fae. Enemies sent to steal her and her magic. And now they have her.

I enjoyed this story. Rowan is an equal mixture of weakness and strength. Her power makes her invaluable and her nerdy love for alchemy makes her likable. Her body's failings show her humanity, her heartbreak over betrayal makes her relatable, and her mother's disdain makes her sympathetic. Overall, I found her a worthy lead female. Kai, Kyrian, and Logan aren't the perfect lead males either. Their personalities are harsh and demanding towards others while fiercely protective of one another. Their pasts have hardened their hatred and scorn for humans, so they aren't immediately swoon-worthy. I think it will make them even more attractive once they fall for Rowan because even though they have ulterior motives, their soft spot for her is lovely. This has all of the makings of an epic adventure and was very entertaining, and I look forward to more.

"I can make it all go away for you. The cold. The Fear. The racing thoughts. I can make you forget it all...All you have to do is say yes, rabbit. Say yes, I will do the rest."

Shadow Daddy - Check
Wolf Shifter - Check
Fae Royalty - Check

So we got Rowan. She's clumsy, a terrible fighter to have in any war, a disappointment to her family.. but she's good with making weapons designed especially to kill their enemies.

Then you have the triad. Kai is the leader and has shadows. *Swoon* Logan is a shifter. He uses his charm to hide how damaged he truly he is. And Kyrian. He's like the balance between the two. I loved these men. I am definitely rooting for the enemy here.

I enjoyed this book so much and I can't wait to read the next in the series. I think I'm even going to check out other books by this author.

My only disappointment was earlier in the story there is a discrepancy in one of the chapters. It's pretty big. I continued the story pretending it wasn't there. But that could cause a bit of a snag if you notice things like that.

I would definitely recommend the book to others still! Thank you Alex Lidell for the advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.

Power of Draken was an absolutely amazing paranormal read that ended with a cliffhanger ending that left me excited to read the next book. I don't want to give too much away but I enjoyed all of the main characters. Rowan has her weaknesses but her determination to do what's right and her huge heart to care for others makes her character unforgettable. Ellie is the best female friend Rowan could as for, and she shows exactly why. Collin is a character that will definitely flip your emotions in unexpected and shocking ways. Kai, Logan and Kyrian also have their faults, they're not perfect and face their own challenges and seem to carry their own grief but their protectiveness, love and support they have for each other is undeniable. This group and a Commander who answers to no one will take you on a journey that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire story. This story is filled with action, betrayal, twists and turns, surprises, death, survival, it has laugh out loud moments, steamy scenes and more, and it ended with a cliffhanger that left me looking forward to reading the next book in this series to find out what happens next.

2.5 - 3

I've read many books by this author but personally this is my least favorite. There was more typos, some big enough to pull you out of the story, I didn't connect with the characters as much either and it didn't really keep my full attention. I'd have liked more development with the MC, or growth in the relationship. It dragged at times.

Also the BFF is not very believable to me. It's like she was thrown in to create plot points. A 2D plot device in some ways. We know nothing about her, she dissappears for a long time, pops up a bit after something big happens and is outraged for a brief moment and moves on. At the end I didnt really care for her and felt she was just dragging the pacing down.

Also, I wish the MC had a better backbone. Especially when it comes to Collin. Like at the end when she's forced to ask his help it would have been nice to see the build up of her worrying about it, and then her saying something when hes an ass to her or even inner dialogue of her thoughts after that.

Building on that some scene cuts were jarring to me. Like they were missing something in-between.

Overall it was OK, but don't think I'll be continuing with this series.

I absolutely loved this first book in the series The Power of Draken! In this book, we find that Kai, the son of Queen Leralynn from the Power of Five, and his best friends have infiltrated the Spire military academy to obtain an alchemist which they desperately need. However, they did not count on that alchemist being Rowan, and the feelings that she was going to bring up in them. As we follow them throughout this book, we are going to see the Triad having to protect Rowan on many different levels. She is supposed to be their enemy, but really she seems to be so much more. Who is Rowan really? What is Making her so sick? Why is she so drawn to the Triad? And, why is the Triad so drawn to her? I suspect that there is so much more going on here than meets the eye, and I for one for one can't wait for the next book in the series. Yet, another great series from Alex Liddell, who has quickly become one of my favorite authors.

Fae fated mates

This is a fantastic start to a new series by Alex Lidell. The world building is fantastic as is the chemistry between Rowen, who has a lovely naivety about her, and the Triad ( Kai, Kyr and Logan). There's action, drama, slow-build heated romance, secrets and discoveries, with a cliffhanger ending, and I haven't been able to put it down.

Rowan knows she shouldn't be in the war college, suffering migraines and being far better at alchemy making things, but in her family everyone graduates and her mum won't hear otherwise. Starting her third year she's placed under the command of Kai; and he with his friends Kyr and Logan, known as the Triad, quickly become protective and caring, in their own way. Though things are not easy for them with the men having a secret and war is on the horizon.

Enemies to lovers RH involving human, fae, and dragons in the background. Lidell creates great characters you want to get to know and further expands the universe introduced in her other works. Better yet, each character is given enough book time that relationships don’t feel forced and individual character comes through. When everyone is doing what they think is right but bring different sets of morals and knowledge to the table feelings oscillate and the internal struggle is handled so well.

Her writing flows so well you can easily get lost in the book from cover to cover. The only downside is waiting for the next installment. Talk about a book hangover. I waited for a day off to read it because I knew I wouldn’t be able to put it down.
