The story will largely revolve around Ronan Rousseau, the last of the sabretooth tiger-shifters, and Lilith Silverwing, a fae warrior for centuries. Lilith will be summoned by Oberon Whisperwind of the High Council and given a new assignment in New Orleans.
“Lilith Silverwing, you are ordered to New Orleans. The Duvall sisters have been unresponsive to our summons to return home. You are ordered to either apprehend and return them here or kill them. The Council doesn’t care which.”
The story will have Ronan and Lilith meeting, and not wanting anything to do with each other—but it seems that fate is fickle and no matter how they fight it, she has other plans. “Fate, it seemed, was just getting started with them.” They can either work separately or combine their skills and work together—the goal is the Duvall Sisters. The only thing is that the more they learn, the more they question—especially the fae council and what Lilith learns from Zephyr Windchaser. Then, another fae warrior, Morrigan Nightshade is stirring up trouble.
Lilith: What are you doing here, Ronan? I don’t need your interference.
Ronan: I’m not interfering. I’m making sure you don’t get yourself killed.
Lilith: I don’t need you to protect me.

3.5 stars- MAGIC UNMASKED is the fifth instalment in Delta James’s contemporary adult THE GRIMM FILES paranormal, fantasy romance series. This is fae enforcer Lilith Silverwing, and sabre tooth tiger shifter Ronan Rousseau’s story line. MAGIC UNMASKED can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout.
Told from dual omniscient third person perspective (Ronan and Lilith) MAGIC UNMASKED continues to focus on Fae High Council’s determination to take down the powerful Duvall sisters-four fae warriors whose magic and power are considered dangerous and in demand. Hired to bring in the Duvall sisters, fae enforcer Lilith Silverwing finds herself with an unwanted partner, sabre tooth tiger shifter Ronan Rousseau, who is also, taking aim at the magical fae but all is not as is appears to be, and our couple will quickly discover there is corruption within the Council, and the attacks against the Duvalls may be a bi-product of power and control.
The relationship between Ronan and Lilith begin when both are targeting the Duvall sisters. Ronan will soon realize Lilith is his fated mate but Lilith refuses to accept the shifter as her happily ever after. The $ex scenes are limited but provocative.

Another wonderful addition to the Grimm Series a wonderful read with great characters.
New Orleans is a city that has its own mystique dating back generations through the families that have resided beneath its shadows. The Duvall sisters were girls that had been taught how to wield the magical abilities they had for good
They know that somewhere there is a mate that is their fated mate and when they finally if they are fortunate to meet them realise the way their magic and the power within changes. Lilith Silverwing has been a fae warrior for centuries, she is ordered to take a new assignment in New Orleans.
When she meets Ronan Rousseau a sabretooth tiger shifter, they decide that it would be best to work together on their assignment, they have to understand what is happening and why the council are believing lies and untruths and acting on them.
It is true that the Duvall sisters cannot be ignored but also the fae council cannot simply react on fear alone without any true facts and this is something some have a tendency to do. The interaction between both Lilith and Ronan since they have started working together and realised, they are in fact fated mate is a wonderful read I loved their interactions.
I am sure that you will be as excited by this read as I was, the characters are wonderful and the complexity of the story is wonderful. I guarantee that once you start to read it you will not be able to put the book down until you reach the end and discover the outcome.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

This book is still focused in New Orleans (Yeah!) and the plot is focused around the Duvall sisters (the subject of the previous 4 books in this series), though the characters here are looking to contain the sisters magic rather than having it be a source of problem solving the latest paranormal crisis. Lilith Silverwing is one of the Fae High Counsel's top enforcers and has been tasked by Oberon (the leader) with bringing the girls back to the realm. Ronan is a sabertooth shifter (the last of known of his kind) and has his own reasons for wanting the girls to stop their blatant magic use.
To say these to did not get along when they met would be a massive understatement. The tension between them was to think to cut, and Lilith had no shortage of snarky comments for the shifter. Tentative truce met - yeah, like he believed that - they would work together. OMG, if these two weren't jabbing at eachother, it was because they were to busy fighting demons and other supernatural creatures. So, while the romance ploy builds on the side, they find they've each stumbled into the arena of fae politics- whether they want to be there or not. It's something Ronan consciously avoided in the past. Will he be successful at dodging it again? Lilith, as an enforcer, has always played her part, but what exactly is her part in this latest assignment? The pressure tensions mount as the pressure increases. Read this exciting action fantasy romance to find out just what lines get crossed, and by whom?

The best I can say is I liked Ronan. The truth is I honestly feel that either Ms. James is just calling her work in these days or that someone was given her key phrases and was allowed to write the book. I've felt that was with many of the latest Delta James books. It is obvious there is no editing going on, no Beta reader to give feedback, and the claimed proofreader has been AWOL throughout this series.
This book, Magic Unmasked is the fifth in the Grimm Files series. Every book in this series and several in other of Ms. James series are plagued by repetition, repetition, repetition. There are pages that repeat themselves over and over. The same words in the sentences seem to have been thrown into a bowl and pulled out merely to see in which order they will be used. The word "hitched" has been used so many times in all of Ms. James books that it's numbers make up a novella on their own. Apparently, women in Ms. James universe can breathe in no other fashion than "their breath hitched.
At this point I am done reading her work, in this and whatever other series she comes up in the future.
I can not in good conscience recommend this book to anyone other than someone who is entirely new the this author. They would be the only people not fed up to the gills with "hitched" and other repetitions.
The reason I gave it two stars, I enjoyed a few of the descriptions of Ronan. Otherwise it would be a solid one star.

Lilith Silverwing has been doing her job, protecting Celestial, the Fae Realm, by hunting exiled fae and rogue vampires, etc. She wanted some time off. However, demons start coming after her, and find her on her way home as she had been summoned. Ronan Rousseau, one of the last sabretooth tiger shifters, ends up also hunting the Duvall sisters as they haven’t been as discreet lately as he thinks they should be. But, there is a reason for it! (See Previous 4 books!). He has hated the fae for a long time, and he has been around for a long time. He realizes that Lilith is his mate and this upsets him. One of the Duvall’s is captured by a vampire, and they stop him. It is in this book, that I realized that there is something seriously wrong with Oberon, the leader of the Fae High Council. We meet another fae fighter, Morrigan, who freaking terrifies me. Egads. I needed my AC on for my freak out sweating, chewing on my fingernails. The book was funny, scary, weirdly romantic in some spots, romantic and steamy as well. The fight scenes are awesome. Things happen that makes both Lilith and Ronan realize that the Duvalls are in the right and are fighting on more than a few fronts. Meeting Zephyr and learning more about him was fascinating as was the Duvalls’ Aunt Maeve. I’d like to learn more about them, although I’m still made at Maeve. (See previous books) I can’t wait to read the next book.

He believes that since the sisters have found their mates, they've become so powerful that they no longer feel the need to keep their secrets hidden, which threatens the safety of the supernatural community.
Despite having little reason to trust each other, Lilith and Ronan find themselves with no choice but to learn to rely on one another to achieve their goals. To complicate matters, Ronan realizes that Lilith is his fated mate, a fact he finds unsettling. Meanwhile, Lilith is skeptical about the concept of fated mates, especially in relation to Fae.
This exhilarating addition to the series leaves me eager to see how they will confront Oberon.

a fun little fated mates novella! this novella started super fast and you get absolutely launched into the world. i personally really struggled with this as i felt like it was a bit relentless, and there wasn't enough background information or word building. however, as the story progresses, we get more details, longer backstories and more in depth information which ties everything together a lot better. the first chapter i felt relief from the fast paced flow of this story was in ronan's chapter, when he describes why he dislikes the fae.
the romance in this was definitely speedy and didn't feel like it had that element of tension to it when the characters finally realise they've fallen for each other and are mates, when they disliked each other before. obviously, it's a 120 page book, so it would have to be fast, but just an observation!!
overall it was a fun novella with some editing needing to be done (run on sentences, some sentences are too repetitive), and i enjoyed it!

Lillith Silverwing is one of the fae council's most formidable enforcers, and her latest assignment is to hunt down the Duvall sisters and return them to the fae realm or eliminate them. Ronan Rousseau is the last of his kind, a sabretooth shifter, and he too, is hunting the Duvall sisters. They have the same mission, but for very different reasons. However, the instant attraction they felt upon meeting will lead to distractions. They will need to work together though when they discover a conspiracy that could very well destroy the fae and human realms.
Wow, a lot of exciting action, magic, and steam with plenty of twists that kept me engrossed. These characters are all fascinating, unique and kept me engaged from the first page to the last. A must-read addition to a fantastic series that I highly recommend to other readers.

April 19, 2025Ronan and Lilith. Shes a fae enforcer that protects her realm from exiled fae and rouge vampires and demons. Hes a saberstooth shifter. He hates the fae. Shes been sent by the council to apprehend or kill the Duvall sisters, desedants of the Grimm family. Ronan is looking to take them out also because of revenge. When these two meet on the battle field he not only sees a fae but also his fated mate. The secondary charecters are interesting and intriguing and wicked. This read has it all shifters, fae, demons, witches and magic. The action is tangeble. Grabs your attention on page one and doesnt release you till the end. Love this series.

She had been tasked with bringing in thr Duvall sisters, dead or alive. Then wr meet saber tooth tiger shifter, Ronan who is also after the Duvalls for being reckless in nola. As soon as he meets Lilith, he knows she is his mate...a fae no less. He has a distaste for fae after what they did to his kind. Lilith needs to find the tricky Duvalls but the shifter is too much on her mind. When she sees her nemesis Morgana in the city, something fowl is afoot. Then she overhears Zephyr, another fae but he is seeking allies to bring down the high Council. What is going on? Lilith and Ronan will work together to find out the truth but at what cost? Are the Duvalls really the enemy or is the high Council corrupt?

This series just keeps getting better and better with each book. This books takes the whole good vs evil to a bigger arena. It is not a simple fight anymore between the Duvall sisters along with their fated mates, against the demons rising, to protect New Orleans. Now it is battle between earth and the Fae. The Fae High Council is determined to take over at any expense, even if it means exterminating the Duvall sisters. And they have sent their enforcer to finish the job. But Lilith soon finds all is not what she was told and soon is forced to make a life altering decision - follow orders or, with the help of her fated mate Ronan, work with the Duvall sisters to save the human realm.

This is an exceptional series. Each story is a standalone with an HEA for the couple. The suspense is very good. I loved trying to figure out what would come next. The twists are unexpected. I also like the back story. The mystery keeps eluding you.
I also like fae/shifter stories. Roan is a loner. He isn't looking for his fated mate. But when he does it still takes time to acknowledge it to himself. He is as any alpha should be, possessive and protective.
I liked Lilith. Very loyal to the high council, and very skilled for what they want her to do. I love the way she eventually learns the truth and what she does next.
I love the confrontations the two get into.
Steam to the eventual romance. Well written and thought out.
Can't wait for the next book.

The Grimm Files series is terrific, and this is the fifth one in the series. Lilith is a fae enforcer who has been sent by the Fae Council to bring the four Duvall sisters back to the Council…. dead or alive is fine with them. She meets Ronan, a sabretooth tiger-shifter who is trying to tone down the sisters since they are gaining too much attention. He and Lilith need to work together after he convinces her that all may not be what she believes about the Duvall sisters.
There are dangerous factions after them and they work together as a team, knowing that they are fated mates. They get closer to destroying the evil members of the Fae Council and did damage but did not kill the evil leader. I can’t wait for the next installment to see if evil finally meets his match. Having read the previous 4 books in this series I was expecting to understand or follow the plot of this book more easily. The fae High Council have decreed the Duvall sisters a threat to the Fae realm and send a loyal enforcer, Lilith, to New Orleans to capture the Duvall sisters.
This series has a lot of political gamesmanship between the Fae and other supernatural beings. While avoiding danger from all directions, Ronan discovers Lilith is his fated mate. There is minimal
romantic or sexy interactions between these two other than some spicy dreams and one scene late in the book when Roman claims her.
With the shorter books it’s a challenge to get to know the main characters amongst all the fighting and supernatural battles.

Lilith Silverwing was the enforcer the Fae Council used to bring down beings like demon hordes, and now tasked with bringing in the Duvall sisters, or banished from the Fae… so tracking the sisters in New Orleans… but also met Sabretooth Tiger shifter Ronan Rousseau who wanted the sisters to corral their activities and not bring undue notice from the humans. He was lone survivor of his clan, since they had pact with Fae who maneuvered out of agreement for mutual protection, therefore didn't trust any Fae… but Lilith drew him in, as his inner tiger recognizes her as his fated mate… but could they work together to find Duvall sisters although tensions with war between factions within Fae Council looking more likely….I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A well written story that continues with Lilith a centuries old far warrior being sent by the far high Council to move against the Duvall sisters, and Ronan the last sabertooth tiger shifter who also is trying to move against the Duvall sisters. Both are fierce fighters, strong, independent, yet very alone and weary of loneliness. But all is not as it seems and to top it off they are dated mates but Ronan gates the far for they destroyed his family. Will they be able to accept fates bond and come together? What is the truth revolving around the Duvall sisters and the Fae council? Which side will they choose when choices come and will they stand together on the same side? Action packed thrilling , detailed and fast paced.

As usual Delta’s stories have that extra something special that leaves the reader feeling totally immersed i the story. The characters have so much depth and richness I always reach the end of the book with a sense of deep loss that this current story has reached its end but also with a sense of expectancy waiting for her next book. Lilith and Ronans battle against the evil fae council strikes around against the council. They are not defeated yet but they have been damaged and now Lilith and Ronan have a moment in time to be together and strengthen their mate bond before once again joining the resistance in the next battle.

This is book five in the Grimm Files series. It's the first not about one of the series and I feel we learn more about them then we did in the previous books. The big bad which was hinted at finally showed itself. It definitely a bad one to be reckoned with.

We find out more of the undercurrent & who's allies and who are unknowingly following blindly. The romance is there as is the spice, but it flows nicely & meaningful with the action. 3,5 - I enjoyed this book. Lilith is a character who is tough and dutiful but she starts to doubt if she's on the right side of things as the story progresses. Ronan is also a strong character and is not intimidated by Lilith's strength and capabilities. In that way they form a good partnership. There is, however, a scene where consent comes into question. Anyone sensitive or triggered by that may not like it. I also feel like there are some things regarding the sister's activities that have been skipped between this book and the last book in the series. Like we are missing some key scenes or a book in between. Hopefully that get's clarified in the next books.

Another captivating addition, where new alliances are formed with previous enemies. Lilith Silverwing is ordered by the Fae Council to apprehend the Duvall sisters or kill them. In New Orleans she runs into Ronan, one of the last ancient sabretooth tigers, and the chemistry sparks. The hunt is on. Treacherous Oberon of the Fae Council has his own evil plans. The rebellion group, together with the Duvalls, Lilith and Ronan are geared into taking action together, but yet much more is to come. Main feature characters in this book is Lilith and Ronan. Easy and entertaining reading with the promise of more to follow.

This time we get Lilith Silverwing, a hunter who works for the Fae Council, and Ronan Rousseau, a sabretooth tiger shifter. Both of them are after the Duvall sisters, Lilith as an assignment and Ronan because he thinks they are putting the whole magical community at risk. They could work together, but Ronan hates the fae. When he realizes that Lilith is his mate, he curses his luck and fate. But it soon becomes obvious that things are not as they seem. There are factions at work to bring down the Fae council, and he and Lilith are caught in the middle. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

This is the next installment in the Grimm Files series; although it can be read as a standalone, it is more meaningful to read the series in order. The books are short, quick reads that are tied together in an ongoing story arc. This book gripped my attention from the beginning and it was hard to tear myself away. I liked the new main characters introduced in this book and I enjoyed the chemistry between Lilith and Ronan. I felt the storyline was a little choppy in spots, but overall I thought it was a good read.

We the readers, descend into the magical city of New Orleans! The French Quarter is a place of magical and other supernatural beings. This author brings to life what we have all expected anyway! The bennieghts, the Jazz music and the laughter and chatter that flows into these streets!
Lilith and Ronan are in for big surprises when it comes to the Fae council and the Duvall family!! I have enjoyed this series so much! Readers beware, all is not right in NOLA!

Ronan and lillith's story is sensational. They fit together perfectly. When they are in a fight they flow together like they have always done this. Lilith is a fae enforcer. The councils wish is her command. Ronan is a Saber tooth shifter and he doesn't trust trust any fae. Imagine the surprise when they realize they are mates. She is to kill the Duvall sisters or bring them to the council. Ronan knows something is off when strange things start happening and when Morgana appears as well as his old master. I,loved the tension between the two of them. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book continues the story of evil magic taking over the City of New Orleans with the Duvall sisters trying to keep New Orleans safe. This storyline has a fae enforcer and a sabertooth tiger trying to stop or kill the Duvall sisters. This book is full of action, treachery, mistrust, and fated mates. Lilith as the fae enforcer is finding out that there may be more going on than she was led to believe. Ronan as the last of his kind has no love for the fae and once he realizes that Lilith is his fated mate and neither of them are willing to admit to the intense chemistry between them. This author is an expert at world building and with each new book the picture gets clearer and clearer.

OMG this was great action packed of drama between these characters. It was as a page turner and the suspense was mind blowing and danger. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. Lilith was a powerful Fae. And Ronan was like a demon dragon who did not like Fae very much in that moment. But he never thought he would have falling for her in this time of chaos. But their romance forbidden because he was the lower level and she was the council enforcer and she had to protected the covert at all time.
