3 STARS. After some of the surprise elements dropped at the end of the last book, this segment picks up right where the last left off. Acolyte follows Kai as she navigates her bond with her dragon and goes on an adventure with Liu, her guard, to find an elder that will help them on their journey to saving the empire.

I enjoyed watching Kai’s confidence and power grow, especially as she learns to trust herself through the trials they face. I think the first book gripped me a little bit more, but this was still an enjoyable read/listen that had me immediately reaching for the third instalment in this short series (Sworn).

Book 2 was an okay read. The plot and characters are developing well. The plot is a bit predictable and includes new people to help the MC.

Very disappointed, the first book felt like it was leading up to something. This one just fell flat. I couldn't get myself to concentrate on the last half of it
