I never imagined meeting anyone who despised the holidays more than I did—until I met Mr. Jack Atlas. Tall, impeccably dressed, with a smoldering presence that could melt hearts, he also happened to be my boss.
I was hired as his temporary assistant after he mysteriously fired the last one. Jack's grumpy demeanor was a constant, but during the holiday season, his Scrooge-like tendencies went into overdrive. I didn't blame him—I had my own reasons for avoiding the festivities, so who was I to judge?
But when something unexpected happened that amplified his Scrooge-like mood, he demanded my help. Refusal wasn’t an option unless I wanted to join the ex-employee list. Despite the magnetic pull I felt towards him, love was the last thing on my mind.
I usually tried to lay low this time of year, minimizing contact with friends and dodging holiday cheer. But Jack was determined to make sure I didn’t slip away so easily. If he had to endure holiday hell, he was bringing me along for the ride.
Jack
I never had time for romance—casual flings and quick dinners were enough. I ran a multi-billion-dollar company, and my focus was always on work, never relationships. But when the mother of my child unexpectedly dropped our four-year-old daughter at my door for the holidays and vanished, I had to turn to my gorgeous assistant for help. The issue? She hated the holidays just as much as I did.
Now, I was trying to survive the season with a little girl who barely knew me and an assistant I couldn’t stop thinking about. My well-structured life was spiraling—thanks to Christmas trees, mistletoe, Ho Ho Ho’s, and a city constantly reminding me I was in holiday hell.
Writing is my passion and my mission is to provide readers with romance novels that will whisk them away into another world and from the daily grind of life - one book at a time.
What a fun holiday read. Due to their childhoods, Jack nor Sierra like the holidays. But when a surprise shows up, they are forced to look at their lives and have to decide what they want for their future. A fun, entertaining read for the holiday season.
A scrooge of a billionaire boss finds himself the new sole parent of his young daughter and learns to mend his ways while falling for his temporary assistant in this Christmas Carol reimagining set in New York City over Christmas. Sweet and spicy, this was good on audio and more heartfelt than I was expecting.
I loved the kinship the story offers. It shows how our lives are shaped by our past and we have a decision to make on how it shapes our future. It’s a must read. The magic of the holidays.
Wanted to like a good Scrooge plot but fell really short
It moved really fast to the point where I didn’t feel like any character development was real. It was a lot of dialogue that felt like it was going through the motions. The characters felt stilted and were really obnoxious. I never warmed up to the MCs because of the lack of emotional depth (having a character shouting does not equate to character development). To top it off, although I’m supposed to adore the little girl, I just kept hearing her saying I want this I want that. Honestly all the characters were kind of abhorrent.
DNF at 20%. Jack was a grade A d-bag. Maybe he got better as the book went on, but “you owe me sex because you ruined my other date” went too far. Sierra was grumpy, but didn’t get a good read on her to comment further.
I must say I was shocked at how negatively this book viewed the holidays. It wasn’t what I was expecting at all but somehow worked. Jack and Sierra came together with one thing in common. They both hate the holidays, and if there’s one thing that gets people to fall in love, it’s to have things to talk about. This is what ultimately had Jack and Sierra click but the attraction was there too even prior to that. I didn’t love how the book started and essentially how it went up until the middle of the book. Both Jack and Sierra’s negative words and anger of the holidays didn’t work for me. As someone who loves the holidays this was hard to read but their bantering was entertaining. On top of the negative thoughts about the holidays that was a surprise, it also threw me off to have Jack and Sierra just jump into bed together at the beginning and how quickly and accepting the office took it, as well as Jack. Then what was even more surprising was how Sierra and Jack talked about it with others like it was nothing and so easily. I’m used to books having the hero and heroine keep this hush hush, especially in a workplace, so to have Sierra tell people and also Jack was shocking. They weren’t discreet about it and essentially everyone pretty much knew everyone’s business except for the real personal reasons Sierra and Jack hate the holidays. It was refreshing and weird at the same time but not unwelcome. It was after they sleep together the first time that I was still struggling a little bit. Jack was cold, an asshole and blatantly went out on other dates after he and Sierra sleep together which was another new thing for me. I think I’ve read this situation once prior to this so it’s a very rare thing to happen again. Normally the hero and heroine sleep together and they can’t get it out of their heads and the thought of even being with another person makes them uncomfortable and feel dirty. This didn’t go in that direction so it felt a little unsettling to me. Sierra did the same thing though but sleeping with Jack seemed to affect her more than him even though he would tell us as the reader otherwise. The book goes on like this until about the halfway point when Jack gets a surprise that upturns his life. It forces him and Sierra to work more closely together and personally because he needs her for more than professional reasons. It ends up not what you would think though it eventually leads to more romantic intentions. As the book progresses from there you witness Sierra and Jack thawing to the holiday spirit and slowly letting the magic of it in but it takes her longer. Jack has an epiphany and out of body experience that opens his eyes to what the holidays are all about. He then takes this experience and opens it up to those around him, starting with work and slowly inserting the magic in Sierra’s. Truthfully though, the surprise that gets dropped onto Jack was already thawing his heart to welcome it in. Overall, it’s a great message about what the holidays are all about and when fate steps in to drop bombs onto your carefully constructed life it can change the course of everything. It’s a message about never taking things for granted when you’re given a second chance and sometimes all it takes is a visit from someone you love. To close this out, it was a feel good story that makes all the negative stuff in the beginning seem worth it to get though. It’s just too bad it wasn’t enough to get me to give this a 5 but the message was received and appreciated.
Ok, well. Wow. I wouldn’t say this was a hate read but it was close. I just couldn’t DNF because I had to see how this train wreck ended.
There is now chemistry between Jack and Sierra. There is no character or plot development. Characters run hot and cold and you get whiplash from them. Both characters are in desperate need of therapy. And will almost certainly carry over their trauma to their kids.
Jack is a borderline asshole who manipulates people. And Sierra, grow a backbone! Quit sleeping with this guy when he is the absolute worst to you. “You owe me sex because you ran my date off”. Um, excuse me?
They are basically playing house but not actually dating? Throw in the dysfunctional ex, dad, mom and you get this book.
We can listen and not judge all we want but I’m definitely judging those who gave this book 4 or 5 stars. As this was a borderline 1/2 star review for me, I would say skip this. No redeeming qualities.
This was my first book by this author, and I absolutely loved it. Sandi managed to pull all the emotions out for this story, she wrote great characters in Jack & Sierra, both had good reasons not to enjoy thanksgiving and Christmas and the story charted their progress from hating anything to do with thanksgiving and Christmas to ending up loving it. I also loved the progression of the relationship of Jack as a successful grumpy billionaire and Sierra as the put upon personal assistant, it was a beautiful love story with ups and downs on the way. I also loved Jack’s daughter Ellie who was thrust upon him with no warning, he was cold and confused over what to do but the story had the sweetest HEA for all the characters. I will definable be looking for my next read from this talented author ❤️
Jack Atlas and Sierra Knight hated everything about Christmas but for good reason. Jack born to wealth a billionaire. However when his mom died his dad stopped caring. Sent him to boarding school and couldn’t even be bothered to spend the holidays with his son. After college he took over the business. Sierra however wasn’t so lucky. Her mom left her on Christmas Day at Mass and never returned to get her and she ended up with numerous foster parents. Sierra ended up applying for a job as his assistant. One day the mother of Jacks 4 year old daughter dropped her off and left, which meant some things were going to have to change. A beautiful Christmas story. Enjoy
Jack is a millionaire who hates the holidays. He hires Sierra as his assistant because she feels the same way. Things change when the mother of his four year old daughter Ellie leaves the child with him. Jack and Sierra are two broken people who have to change for the sake of the little girl. Both of their pasts catch up with them and they start to feel differently. This is a great story as only Sandi Lynn can write it. Love the twists and turns. Couldn't put it down.
If Sierra wasn’t so irritating it would probably be 4 stars. But she was just so greedy and snarky and demanding. I get it if it’s a gold digger story, that’s expected. But don’t be that way finding blessings in your misfortune. Love coming together with a bonded hatred of the holidays but learning to grow from the tragic past and start a new chapter and new traditions. Rekindling parental relationships. Office relationship. Billionaire relationship. Single dad. Triggers: child abandonment. Boarding school abandonment. Childhood trauma.
I absolutely loved this sweet spicy cute christmas story. This is about Seirra and Jack who both hates christmas and have very valid reasons to do so. My heart shattered listening to their childhood and thinking about all the pain They went through.
Seeing them overcome their own prejudices and do everything for Elli was so beautiful. I loved their connection and how they slowly bonded with Elli. The girl deserves all the happiness with what happened but I am glad she found two soo loving people.
Overall it's a great holiday read so definitely give this one a try. 4⭐
This was a cute holiday read with the two MC’s disliking Christmas. Jack Atlas has hired Sierra Knight as temporary assistant. They both do not like the holiday season because of circumstances in the lives. He now has to take care of his four year old daughter because her mother no longer wants to raise her. He makes Sierra now live with him to take care of her till he can find a nanny. This brings them to realize they need to embrace the season because of his daughter. I loved how this story brought them to love each other and overcome their family issues.
What happens when you put two bam-hum-bug personalities together??? You get a romance that will bring a smile to your face and that will warm your heart. Sierra and Jack both have reasons to despise the holiday season but it only takes one spark and a four year old to break them out of their habit. This book had everything you could ask for: beautifully written characters, a storyline that kept the pages turning and just the right amount of holiday mayhem.
4 stars What a holiday treat. Very Hallmark like. 2 scrooges get over themselves, and under each other. Surprise little girl dropped off for single father billionaire Scrooge. Scrooge billionaire’s assistant is more Scroogy than he is. Both have holiday PTSD from childhood trauma. There’s even a ghost of Christmas past! It’s not deep and it’s not fine literature , but it’s a fun read right before the holidays.
What happens when you hate the Christmas holiday season and so does your assistant? That’s the premise of this story about Jack and Sierra. Both are emotionally crippled by events from their childhood. But when Jack’s four year old daughter is dropped into his life, things change.
Lot of emphasis on money and spending money and you have so much money. Could use some editing, too.
What a wonderful story, sadly two peoples lives didn’t start out great, but with an open mind can be turned around. With help from friends, new acquaintances, and open minds you can change your mind about your perception. Beautifully written story, and love, future can win.
I loved Sierra and Jack!! Sierra needed a job bad and she had an interview with Jack to be his assistant. She got the job because she hated everything about the holidays as much as he did. Then Jacks daughter that he didn't know really at all got dumped on him by her mother. So Jack and Sierra both started to not be scrooges because of his little girl.
Really enjoyed this story. It is about two people who have had hard life and as a result do not like the lights and decorations of the holiday. How will they handle their working relationship boss and assistant when his Daughter is dropped at his house and her mother leaves.
5 Stars - Great story. Two wounded people, unlikely match, get together and find healing for their hearts during the holidays. BE ADVISED I gave it 3 STARS to point out this books contains multiple, descriptive sex scenes which IMHO was not needed. So I did a bunch of page flipping. Otherwise the story itself was quite good,
This was a good book, I loved Jack and his daughter, but Sierra made me dislike her, I am definitely not a fan. I know we fall in love at the most awkward times, but this love story was crazy. ( she was too nosey, and she talked too much). I have alot to say but will keep it short.
Really enjoyed this book. Two people who were emotionally damaged by childhood abandonment. They have so much in common that their chemistry is off the charts. The addition of Ellie was sweet because Sierra could identify with her. When they finally realized they were in love and decided to give Christmas a chance. Loved the HEA and that they finally had peace.
Sandi Lynn never fails to deliver the best and heartfelt stories and this is no exception. Jack and Sierra's dislike of the Christmas season took a turn for the better when little Ellie came to live with her dad. Many painful memories are eased as the holidays bring miracles. I couldn't put this book down.
Jack is arrogant, rude, mean and sarcastic. Everything you might expect from a billionaire who hates the holidays. Sierra also hates the holidays so she is quite relieved to land the job as Jack’s assistant. There is chemistry from the start and a few surprises along the way. Two lost souls discovering love and the joy of Christmas.
I don't know why I waited to read this charming book until Easter weekend, but I loved the story. Sierra is my kind of girl. Bargaining for expensive gifts. Also spoiling a child rotten. I am so glad for the HEA ending. I will definitely read at Christmas this year.
Two people with horrible childhoods share a kinship in their hatred of Christmas. They bond over Jack's daughter who was left with him. The love of this child and the magic of the season helps them both come to terms with their pasts. Allowing them to find love and appreciation for Christmas. Jack and Sierra give his daughter the family she needs and break the cycle of bad parents.
