Katy Goforth has a kind voice. Even with difficult topics, it’s a soothing presence. Some of her stories, none of them long, are fiction; some are not. You can generally tell which is which, there’s only one story that seemed ambiguous to me, though whether memoir or fiction doesn’t matter: They all speak to her and her community’s truth. Is there a term for comfort grit-lit? If so, I think that would fit this collection nicely.
Katie’s stories weave her memories and imagination into your own, echoing familiarity. She captures what it is to be Southern, independent, vulnerable, fierce, lost and self assured. She’s a friendly voice reminiscing over a drink in a dark corner tavern; comfortable and welcoming. Her personal stories tinge your heart sometimes in sadness, but also in love and a warmth you can feel.
Wonderfully crafted stories with southern charm, humor & a touch of sorrow. Your heart will be warmed and your mind triggered with your own past memories, (fact or fiction) of family & stories passed down.
