My favorite assistant medical examiner, Kenzie Kirsch, is given a sad case involving a homeless man who has died, from all appearances, by the devastating consequences of chronic alcoholism. But is that the whole story? Kenzie is set on the trail of a mysterious “Night Doctor” who might be a saint or possibly a serial killer. As always, her partner, the incomparable private investigator Zachary Goldman is always ready to lend his expertise to the investigation. With her usual nimble balancing of suspicion, intrigue, engaging characters, and a number of surprises, P. D. Workman has penned yet another captivating mystery that had me ignoring all else in favor of reading this book to see what was going to happen next. Medical ethics was a central theme in this story and it was well-handled with attention being given to all sides of the various issues represented. Of course, mental health issues were also a predominant topic as would be expected by anyone familiar with this series. I enjoy all medical thrillers as a rule, but I have to say that this series stands out for me because of the compassion and understanding that always shines through in each and every story. This is top shelf entertainment with a heart. ══════════════════ I was provided with an advance copy of this book, for which I thank the author, but I am sharing my honest and unbiased review on a completely voluntary basis.
Kenzie brings light to bear on an situation that would have been buried early on if not for her tenacious and caring ways. Zachary still fights his demons. It's not easy to heal when growing up with abandonment and abuse. With Kenzie's help can Zachary finally attain peace? Highly Recommended.
Thriller is definitely the right description for this book. As Kenzie works to get to the truth behind a death, there are more and more questions. A real page turner, for sure. I am looking forward to whatever comes next for her and Zachary.

Healed to Death is the 12th book in the Kenzie Kirsch Medical Thriller Series. That being said it is a standalone book meaning it can be read on its own if you like, however I fully recommend that you look into the series and all of the other books by this author. She has many great series and knows how to tell a great story. Kenzie works in the local morgue as the assistant Medical Examiner. It is her great hope to become the Medical Examiner one day but she knows she has so much to learn and she is content to continue to learn under her boss of late, Dr Cook. When the ME’s office gets a call about a body found in an alley, nobody is surprised that it’s a homeless man. At first it just looks like he died of natural causes. But then Kenzie starts hearing rumors of a strange “night doctor”, who seems to know where and when to find homeless who need his help. Does he heal or harm? Who is he? And why don’t the local hospitals or Medical Services have any knowledge of him? I love reading these books because they could have been ripped right out of the headlines. They have the air of truth in them. The details she tracks down are so spot on it feels like you’re right in the middle of a crime scene! She knows her stuff and does her research!!
This is another book in the Kenzie Kirsch Medical Examiner series. I don't think it's super necessary to have read any of the previous books, so you should be good to read it as a stand-alone book.
In this book, Kenzie is called to the death of a homeless man. When she starts investigating the case, she realizes there is a lot more going on under the surface. This book is quite thrilling, and I was hooked until the end. There are some twists I didn't see coming, and those really made the book for me!
I received this book as an advance copy, and these are my own opinions.
I absolutely love PD Workmans books--her writing style and characters really draw you in. This book is no exception to her high quality books. I highly recommend it!
I always enjoy it when a new book in this series comes out! I love that each case is different and unique while being relevant to today. I also love that Zachary is part of her investigations sometimes. I love Kenzie’s tenacity when she feels that something is off during her post-mortem exams. This one was throwing red flags up and she did her own investigation to try to figure it out. I also was curious about Dr. Cook’s attitude…he wasn’t very helpful or supportive. Kensie perseverance is one of her strongest qualities. She will make a fantastic Medical Examiner when she gets promoted.
This series keeps showing interesting problems and situations, and this time showing us that some bureaucracy really is necessary, even if the current US leadership doesn't think so. The book has the usual great characters, a good plot and a story that's easy and entertaining to read, but the mystery is easily solved when the info is handed to the main character.
When danger surrounds Kenzie, who can she trust. A crime is committed and trying to solve the case isn’t as simple as it sounds. Full of suspense and secrets, who knows what will happen next. Don’t miss out.
