The Heights #2

Broken Promises

Rate this book
I’d never been on my own before, and it sucked.
My world was crumbling down around me right in front of my eyes.
Reid hurt me. Logan broke me. Zavier almost got me killed.
Nothing was ever going to be the same again.

With no one to protect me, I had to rely on myself.
Beckett was my only trusted friend, and she reminded me that I was strong.
Until that one night I let loose and almost lost what was left of me.
And the last person I thought I’d see again walked through the door like he’d never left.

Ander Lavaro was the only person alive that I could claim to hate.
His illegal street races had almost cost Reid his life a year ago.
Now he was back, bringing his problems with him like always.
I wanted him gone, but I found myself slowly letting him in.

Truths become lies, secrets are exposed, and promises are broken.
Repairing the damage between the guys and I felt impossible.
Now the mafia are at our door, and all I can see is the truth.
I never should have trusted Ander and his lies.

*This is the second instalment of Raven, Logan, Reid, Ander, and Zavier's story. Broken Promises is book 2 in a reverse harem/why choose trilogy. It contains dark content, adult themes, and violence.

Once again Bond has left us on a downright doozy of a cliff hanger, and I don’t know how I’m expected to continue with life until the next book hits my kindle.

Broken Promises was a perfect mixture of found family, banter, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, spice, loss and trauma. Secrets and broken promises.

We pick up right where it left off in Dirty secrets, with Raven dealing with a miscarriage and now navigating not having her guy's around for the first time in her adult life. In broken promises you see the friendship with Beckett flourish, as much as it can with her. I love how bond lets us continue to see the lives of characters from past books.

Watching Raven come into herself more, taking charge of her life on her own for the first time is amazing. Seeing each guy realise where they have messed up and try to make up for their mistakes was a breath of fresh air. Who doesn’t love a good grovel. Seeing the infuriating neglect from some parents was heart breaking but thank god for Rory.

Unexpectedly Ander comes back, a kind of knight in shining armour and in this book, he was absolutely my favourite out of the four guy's. Zavier a very close second. I am longing for Logan just as much as Raven and I really hope to see more of Reid in book three.

Once again, Bond, has done an outstanding job and I am never disappointed in the world she creates. (though I am still salty over the damn cliff hanger because that came out of nowhere!!)

Broken Promises is the second book in The Heights Trilogy. This ends in a cliffhanger and cannot be read as a standalone.

OMFG! I am soooo obsessed with this series. Raven is such a bad@ss and definitely has been through it. I LOOOOOVE the complexity and push and pull this story gives. You'll become more and more emotionally invested and IT'S STILL NOT DONE! That cliffy had me wrecked. Definitely looking forward to reading the conclusion to this series.

🎶 “I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife. Offer me that deathless death.” 🎶

Raven’s (h) world is falling apart - betrayed by Reid, broken by Logan, and nearly destroyed by Zavier, she has no one left to rely on but herself. With Beckett as her only anchor, she fights to stay strong, until a reckless night brings back Ander Lavaro (H), the man she swore to hate after his street races nearly cost Reid his life.

“Do you think she’s fucking okay? You three assholes fucked her up. It must be bad if she’s calling me for company at three in the morning,” she deadpanned, making me wince.

Raven spent the entire book mad at everyone, distancing herself from the boys, and getting closer to Ander. She is becoming independent and forging her own path. She tried not to hold resentment, but it is hard when she thinks about what she lost and the support Logan never gave her. For the first time, she is making her own moves and decisions without needing the guys’ approval. She feels alone, but in a way it is good for her because she had always relied on them for support. Her being mad that Reid was not paying the rent after she kicked him out was wild. That was the moment I knew I could not continue this series. This is where my interest ends, and I no longer care what happens.

There is so much going on and yet nothing happening at the same time. Ander came back, everyone suddenly popped back up, and now they all want to be around again.

I had the privilege to beta read Broken Promises :)

We pick up where we left off with Dirty Secrets.

These guys are so totally in love with Rae that they will do absolutely anything in their power to make her happy, to protect her and just do just about anything for her.

Rae is living one heck of a nightmare with her dad but the guys are there to back her up in whatever she decides when it comes to her scumbag of a father. He's a deadbeat dad who only thinks about himself and what he can get out of things for his benefit, including using his daughter for his shenanigans.

But Rae is starting to toughen up and she has Beckett to thank for that. She wants to learn to protect herself and not have to depend on the guys to do it for her. She has to learn to be independent.

But the guys' scenes with Raven (oh boy) they are hot! I love the premise of the story, can't wait to see where it's going to take us since we were left with a cliffy...AGAIN! But I know my girl here, will give us one heck of an ending like she knows how to do with her series <3

So much drama, violence, thrill and mystery. I also got angry and sad in certain parts in the book. RE Bond really made me show my emotions in this book!

This book, just like all the other books in this interconnected world, has the perfect blend of humor, spice, trauma, found family, darkness, and tons of emotions. It picks up from the cliffhanger that we got at the end of Dirty Secrets.

Raven is really finding out who she is in this book and what she's willing to put up with. She's finding her own footing without the guys always being there to protect her or control her. I really enjoyed seeing her standing up for herself against them and others. She's demanding what she deserves, and it's refreshing to see from her.

The guys all do a lot of groveling, with some gaining her trust early on and others going the whole book before getting anywhere. I thought each one's groveling matched the crime. With the guys all staying at other people's houses, we got a lot of character cameos that I deeply enjoyed. It's always nice revisiting old favorites. My favorite things about this book were Raven getting more independent and stronger, Ander coming back, and how much of Zavier and Ander we got. I'm a little biased though since those two are my favorites lol

If you thought the last cliffhanger was bad, you might want to prepare yourself. R.E. said hold my beer, came in and mic-dropped, and then just left the building. My jaw literally dropped, and I was left sitting there in shock and desperately wanting the next book!

Stark raving...

I put this off as long as possible because I REALLY don't wanna do cliffhangers this year but I also CANNOT be left behind in anything Bond 🤣 I need in on ALL the loops, down to the last stray kitten! They're such wholesome updates in some pretty dark times and I love it. Every book release is so exciting and I just can't hold out!

It's still so mind bending how interwoven the characters from the Bond universe get and I get SO involved every time! This tv show would have 15 seasons and a film franchise, complete with character come backs 😏 and high octane emotions and plot to keep you on the edge of your seat and plenty of steam to keep your windows fogged up.

I hate how bad the guys messed up. I hate what Raven has been through. I hate that they're all touched by the claw of pain and still manage to hurt each other at times. I also hate how much I've come to adore the way they try to make it up to each other when they mess up. But I REALLY hate that crustaceous bastard sperm donor. I have had my share of crappy parents this year and this guy was really inspiring some vicious ideas.

These characters are raw and damaged but equally heartfelt, as always, and will leave you gasping. I'll never get enough of this world! It's one you can circle back and get lost in over and over again!

Loving these characters

The thing I've enjoyed most about this particular spinoff series is getting to see how much Rory has evolved since her introduction in Pretty Lies (she will forever be my favorite female bada** character). We are also seeing the same evolution in Beckett as she takes Raven under her wing to help her "be the knight, not the damsel". I'm loving Rory as the inspirational mom and Beckett trying to figure out how the heck to be a good friend to a girl. I loved that Raven didn't just instantly let the guys back into her life and makes them earn that trust back. I think Anders is a great fit for Raven because he gives her space to breathe while still looking out for her (he wants her to spread her wings instead of coddling her). There are definitely some hard topics in this one, so be aware of your possible triggers.

It was nice to be so invested in a story that I was able to forget all the crap happening in my country, even if it was just a temporary escape. I literally couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Can't wait for the final book, especially after that ending.

What another fantastic book by Rach. I’m absolutely loving the Heights characters but I love the crossover with all the original watch me burn faces 🖤

We pick up a little bit after where book 1 ended and everything has turned upside down for Raven. Something happens and a familiar face reappears to save the day. Everything after takes a bit of a rollercoaster ride that you don’t want to ever end.

I love the dynamic of Raven and guys so much, and to see the grovelling taking place heals my heart 😍 there is a lot more spicy time which is super frigging hot 🥵

The storyline is super good, the relationships, the lives, when you think things are looking up but then you get thrown another curveball. It wouldn’t be a Rach book without some kind of v!olence 🖤 I love her style of writing that makes me feel like I’m part of the story.

That cliffy though was brutal…….. my heart still hasn’t calmed down and I don’t know how to cope without having the next bit to read. Amazing as always 🖤

DAMN! That was another adrenaline packed and incredibly emotion book in this phenomenal trilogy. There was so much violence, suspense, trauma, angst, heartbreak, passion and love that by the end I was speechless.

Raven is dealing with a shocking tragedy and the loss of the guys she has come to love and rely on. But Raven is a survivor, and she will fight for what she wants, she just needs some time to heal first. And that also means putting these men in their rightful places and not accepting simple apologies for what they have put her through.

The banter throughout was perfect and I found myself laughing, crying a little and gasping with shock over some of the things that happened. And the spice – WOW – very delicious and very HOT!!!

I loved this part of the story and I can’t wait to see how everything plays out in the last book – especially after that whooper of a cliffhanger.

✨ Broken Promises by RE Bond ✨

If you love
💫 WhyChoose
💫 Found Family
💫 Brothers Best Friend
💫 Wrong Side of Tracks

So freaking GOOD! RE Bond has me hook to everything she writes. I'm obsessed with the world she has created and all her characters. You get to see characters from previous books and get snippets of their lives as well.

This one was no different. Be prepared for the cliffy. That was brutal for sure 😅. Book two picks right up. Ander is back. But we get very little info on why or where he went. His back story is still very hush hush. Raver is taking the reins of her personal and love life. She is building new friendships and is creating healthy boundaries and asking for what she wants as well. I can't wait to read the final book in the series!

Dirty Promises was everything I was hoping for. Raven and the guys have been through a lot and they are broken. Now Ander is back and Raven is slowly starting to let him and the guys back in or at least some of them. I won’t go into details as you will have to read Dirty Promises to find out what happened. Let’s just say that Dirty Promises ends with a bang and a big revelation. I highly recommend Dirty Promises, The Heights series, and R.E. Bond as an author. I love R.E. Bond’s bonds as they are always filled with lots of drama, angst, secrets, revelations, twists, turns, things going sideways, and lot and lot of 🔥🔥. I have never been disappointed with any of her books and therefore can say that readers can choose any of her series and will feature all of the above and very unique characters and you can’t help but be drawn to their drama and won’t be able to put her book down. I will say that I recommend starting with Pretty Lies from the Watch Me Burn series. Happy reading!!

Nooooooo

I absolutely loved this book and that cliffhanger guts me! I need to know what happens next!

Broken Promises starts off where the first book left off, and the guys definitely have some groveling to do with Raven. Raven is a very strong FMC she just needs to realize it. She misses the guys but won't make it easy on them. She gets herself into some trouble, and the unexpected comes to help her.

I really liked seeing the guys struggle without her and realize how they feel and give her some time. Also, enjoying Rory and the guys making appearances. I adore Rory, and Beckett is a riot and glad Raven has her.

So much happens, but that cliffhanger was a doozy and noooo because I'm loving the added development and hoping for more because why choose 😆. Read this book if you have started this series because it is so good!

An emotional rollercoaster that will leave you breathless!

Broken Promises is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you breathless! R.E. Bond crafts captivating characters and connected worlds that will keep you hooked. (I love when past characters are involved in new series!) We get to watch Raven grow into a dynamic and stronger woman, after dealing with a loss and I love how Logan, Zavier, and Reid learn from thier mistakes and it is fun to watch the groveling! Ander is a wildcard and he adds a new dynamic, and their undeniable chemistry is simply electrifying. And get ready for a cliffhanger that will leave you craving more. If you're a fan of intense groveling, a dangerous mafia/MC adjacent guys, scorching passion, and possessive heroes who would do anything for their woman, then Broken Promises is a must-read!

Independent Woman?…

Ander’s return to Raven’s life is with a literal bang. Without the guys in her life to have her back Raven finds herself in some precarious situations. Ander returns to try and save Zavier from the mafia. He’s got lots of secrets that throughout the book we get little hints.

Raven, Reid, Zavier and Logan are still hurting from the aftermath of what happened in Dirty Secrets(The Heights book 1).

Raven wants to be an independent woman but she falls back with the guys way too fast. Logan is still on the outside and he’s dealing with his own pain too.

I liked the building friendship between Raven and Beckett. I also love seeing Rory Donovan and all her men in glimpses throughout Raven’s life.

The cliffhanger was a freaking secret revealing brutal ending.

I'm a big fan of re bond. Her books leave me wanting more. She did not disappoint with this book. It was everything and more.
Raven's dad is making her life he!!. He parties in the house she and her men have paid for. He's such a vile person. And now that she's estranged from the guys, she's all on her own.
Beckett was the one who taught her how to defend herself. You can see how close they are becoming. Rory has been nothing but supportive to Raven because she sees herself in Raven. She wants a better life for her.
The guys love Raven so much, and being away from her has caused them major grief. But they still help her as much as they can. Seriously, these characters have so much emotion, and it shows throughout the book. It left us on a cliffhanger and can't wait for the next book to release.

We love a female lead who doesn’t give in right away. She is very adamant and up front about the hurt she has endured from the guys. Even going as far as completely cutting off contact, unless absolutely necessary.

One by one, Raven starts to slowly forgive and do her own thing. However, she is still in danger. Therefore, she is often accompanied by someone. One being Ander, who everyone is super angry with, but Raven begins to become close with. But, is he still holding out the truth of some things?

I liked to see the regret all of the guys felt with how they acted towards her and the things that were said. They immediately knew they screwed up, and would make it right in any way possible.

That cliffhanger though 🤯🤯 I need the next book now!

eeekkk need more

Ok so at the end of book 1 Raven and the guys ( Reid , Zavier , and Logan ) had a falling out. Oh Man do these guys have a lot of groveling to get back into her good graces. They are all struggling emotionally without each other. Raven forms a unexpected bond with Beckett. She goes to a party and Ander pops back into town at the right moment to save her from two guys that wanted to do things to her. ( if you know what I mean ) love how R.E. Bond brings characters from previous books into this one. Instead of three guys wanting her back , she has the attention from Ander not too lol. And omgggg the end???? Mind blowing. Can’t wait for the last book. This one was insanely good.

Couldn't get enough of the gang!

A whirlwind second installment from Raven and the guys to keep you on the edge of your seat! I love the development each of these characters are forced to endure through dealing with so much chaos and trauma Book 1 was emotionally heartbreaking and book 2 did me the same dirty. The strength of the connection the book has developed between characters on the page and real emotion is unreal and stirs up these real tears wondered how they're going to go on. Ander was a welcome distraction while Reid, Logan and Zavier got their shiiit together and gave an explosive spice fest on paper. I adore the shadow falls/Heights world and don't ever want to see the author hang up her pen on them

Raven is healing from her hurt from her best friends, Logan, Zavier and Reid. Dealing with her deadbeat father. Living in the Heights and someone comes back from the past, Ander. She wasn’t a big fan but she’s decided to trust him and so do the guys, but sometimes trusting someone has consequences…Find out now and read it, yes there is a cliffhanger BUT it is sooo worth it

Holy heartbreak Batman!

R.E. Bond is the queen of killer hangovers! The emotional rollercoaster in this one just might be the worst so far. From helping kids who's parents are useless, to hanging out doing each other's hair, only to end with one being locked in a trunk. The spice, as always, is off the charts. The brutality and heartbreak will cause anxiety attacks. Still, it's another banger from Bond!

Wow!!! This book begins from the end of Dirty Secrets and just kept getting better. In comes Ander Lavaro 🥵 so much action and spice. Not only do I love the main characters but I also love the side characters relationships with them. I love how well she interconnects these families and friends so well. The story is so good you just can’t put it down! And of course, that cliffhanger though!!! Was not expecting that!

Everyone is hurting and trying to deal with the fallout of what happened in book one. Raven in the meantime has put distance between her and the guys. Each of them trying to find a way back to her. I love how she and Beckett are becoming friends despite Beckett's toughness. Ander comes back to town at just the right moment. So much still going on with the other characters and then we get the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers that leaves you reeling. What in the world.

I love reading these stories. Spin off books from characters you loved. The fact that everyone makes an appearance in this series from the OG series and others just makes it all better. I've grown to like Raven a little more, and if I know Rachel, she make her even better in the 3rd book. A great series

I doubted giving this 5 stars, because it revolved very much around the guys trying to make uo for their mistakes. For once it wasn’t that easy, but it was maybe a bit weird on how things played out. The ending though was great and the cliffhanger cleared things up. I knew there was something about Dante.
