My Good Girl
Journal Braxton had it hard from the start. Growing up in one of the roughest parts of Miami, alongside her two older siblings. Having a mom that was negligent towards her children, it caused Journal and her siblings to fiend for themselves, which one day ultimately landed the 3 of them in foster care. Journal was forced to believe that her and her siblings would forever stick together, but they were all eventually separated from one another, and her life has gone downhill ever since.
Eighteen years go by since the separation, and now Journal is an adult. She’s struggling out here in the real world, and in a very unhealthy relationship with her longtime boyfriend, Hakeem. Everything in her life changes the day that she meets Mr. Genesis Banks, better known as Slick.
Slick is the man in Miami. With a passion for weapons, and a love for making money, he’s truly the man to be! Slick is tough, never met a woman that he wanted to settle down with and love, but then he meets Journal, a good girl, that he saw something in from the very start. big genesis 😈
I love the title of this book because it perfectly captured how Genesis feels about Journal. This is a story that quickly captured my attention and I think it’s because I’m a sucker for opposites attract and a rags to riches type of story. On paper, Journal shouldn’t be nowhere near Genesis’ but after an interesting first encounter and several run-ins later, Genesis formed a soft spot for Journal. And it was pretty clear early on that he would do anything to protect her, and I loved that. The book is a slow burn but it has the makings of a great series, especially with the many unknowns. Jealousy and irrational exes were running rampant and I’m on pins and needles. My one gripe is there are several editing issues in the book, but it didn’t take away my enjoyment of the story. Good read for me.

ummmm…..
This honestly does not seem like Diamond D. Johnson writing.
Don’t get me wrong, the story is good but the writing is juvenile. I would expect this from a beginning author. And there was no creativity behind the characters, everyone was “caramel” with light brown / hazel eyes. Every woman was slim with a big butt. This is common throughout urban fiction but D.D. Johnson has always had diversity in characters. So, this seems off for her. I can only hope the next book is better.

Is it entertaining ABSOLUTELY are you gonna have to ignore incorrect words and statements that don’t make sense because of that ABSOLUTELY.
Diamond can write her way out a card board box I promise but the editing is non existent. While some of the mistakes make for a good laugh it’s distracting and truly takes away from the story. This story follows Diamonds usual formula so I won’t say too much on that. I will say it was a little hard to gauge the time period this book takes place initially. Like I knew it wasn’t a historical tale but at the same time I couldn’t really place the year. That might not matter to everyone but it’s important for me to make sense of the characters personalities and the situations she’s in.
Journal is a cool FMC, damsel in distress, struggling but beautiful. I wasn’t even sure how old she was until a few chapters into the story which again is kinda off putting cus like if you introducing the character then lol INTRODUCE THEM. While I felt sympathy for her some stuff was annoying. Like she mentions she was a stellar student but chose not to go away to college for a man. So that leave it up in the air, like was she eligible for scholarships, could she not go to a community college ect. Like she’s definitely a hard worker but not a hustler if that makes sense. Her upbringing and current circumstances kinda makes her settle, like she just didn’t give she had heart to get up out the trenches. It’s not terrible but again she just left a lot to be desired which gives her more room for growth. I’m hoping we see actual improvements in her life and steps toward independence while allowing Genesis to provide.
Genesis/Slick was a cool MMC but he’s lacking in the sense department. He is this “boss of all bosses” a formidable man who allegedly doesn’t play but baby he was playing most of the novel. The conflict with his brother is issue one, like through the story he’s kinda getting tried and not in the most outright ways but in a number of subtle ways, yet he’s allowing it cus it’s his bro… MIND YOU THEY HATE EACH OTHER. Next up Winnie been foul, like he warned her to leave Journal alone.. THAT LADY DID NOT, so that’s strike one then she’s insinuation she’s gonna snitch TWICE and by the end of the book sister is still alive so yeah. All he does is threaten folks but never follow through and that’s gonna be the cause of most of this drama.

4.5 ⭐️ Introduction to Genesis & Journal. While traveling home late from work one night, Genesis saw something she shouldn’t have seen. This leads her into the sights of Genesis. New and unknown feelings arise when he looks at her so he lets her go. With the life Journal has unfortunately experienced she’s just tryna keep her head down and pay her way. Life is kicking Journal’s ass, but Genesis has come in putting his stamp on her life. This kinda gives slow burn, but I’m enjoying the storyline. My favorite part would probably be when Genesis told Journal “ We gonna get your lick back. Grab your Vaseline.” Ends on a cliffhanger. Running to book 2
* I will say some things seem repetitive conversation wise. Like it’s been said the exactly the same way enough times for me to notice. I mostly read off vibes alone so it didn’t bother me too much.

Engaging
Ok, this was a page turning book. The characters and storytelling were pretty decent; however, the grammatical errors and times of re-reading for comprehension was daunting! This author does really well keeping her readers engaged but definitely needs to invest in a professional editing company. I grew exhausted from interchanging "your" to " you're", the wrong spelling and misuse of words were such a turn off. Also, the continuity of caramel complexion, green eyes and locs really need to be left alone. I recommend if you're interested in strictly a story and can omit the other issues.

so much potential but fell short. this was an okay read but i wouldn’t recommend it.
the mmc was one of the only redeeming qualities of this read. i loved him and journals dynamic although it really didn’t get a chance to be enjoyed without all the random drama.
i do feel like the mmc & fmc relationship could have been flushed out alittle more before her siblings came into the picture. also the way it ended was so unnecessary. i get it’s a series but each book should have some type of closure, or at least one of the thousands of issues resolved.

Journal is girl who has been dealt a bad hand in life. She and her siblings have been separated for some years. She was barely getting by. Had a trauma bond with who she thought was the love of her life because they had been through a lot together. Journal got caught up witnessing a murder. She held captive until the boss came through. Genesis was that boss and he said that he doesn't kill women or kids. Winnie felt threatened because she wasn't the center of his attention anymore and by their situation even though they didn't have one. Genesis told her he doesn't condone the fight when didn't do anything to her. She had to learn the hard way the choices of actions and they have consequences. From there he and Journal formed a friendship. They talked about their life situations. She should choose herself and the start of her new relationship with Genesis and get to her sisters again.

Excellent Read Need PT2
Diamond you did it again .. I always been a fan of your work read many of your books and all of them from the very beginning to the end is always been five stars with me. This book is definitely a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read pt 2 ..I would like to see, slick and journal get married she’s a good girl she deserve to be happy. ..so many haters , just loyalty are surfacing. slick is going illuminate Hakeem, which is journals ex slick must be on guard at all times ..especially his half brother Cyrus whom he knows want his position and jealous of him ..slick I have a feeling he’s going to eliminate Cyrus but I cannot wait for him to find out about Winnie being disloyal against slick she’s her feelings.. he didn’t trust her for a reason and now he’s going to see what’s really going on.. part two please hurry.. I don’t want to forget the story that I read..thank you..

Drama here, drama there!

Her siblings were adopted before her to different homes. She was the last to be adopted so they all were separated. Nineteen years later Journal runs into to Slick after witnessing a murder. Because she was seen, she was brought into Slick for him to decide if would let her live or not. Slick runs a gun store, however her also sells illegal guns. Journal cleans houses for a living. After that incident Journal and Slick continues to run into each other and eventually getting to know each other. Around the time she met Slick, she was just dumped by her longtime boyfriend whom she met in foster care. Slick also, had a situationship with a chick named Winnie. There was so much popping off in this book. This is my first book by this author and I have to say I enjoyed it.

needs to learn how to edit down
This could have been a great book, but the author needs to learn how to edit down. Heavy on the descriptions, and when I say heavy I mean like pages long and for characters that ain’t even important. Even side characters. It got to the point that I was skipping hella pages just to get through. The characters are likeable enough but I can’t with China. She’s not a mother and I’m not sure how everyone is okay with that, but maybe I’m just bias. The repeating of descriptions from different characters about the same character was irritating. This made the book drag and become boring. Please learn how to edit down every single detail does not have to be in the book, idk if this was done just to make multiple books for a series or what but it’s ridiculous.

Not Like This(matrix reference)
This is a very good story. I love the reunion story with the siblings. Journal’s story of loving the wrong man to being sought out and treated opposite by the right man is breathtaking.
I like her best friend’s love story but I hope she works to cohabitate with her children again.
I can’t wait to see what happens with Winnie & Cyrus. I already had a feeling that he was doing something dirty based on his disrespect towards his brother. When Winnie made that statement in his office about his brother I knew she was shady.
Diamond you’re one of my favorite authors but the errors are getting worse. What can we do to continue receiving the great quality literature that you’ve always provided?

Journal deserves everything good thing that’s coming to her. It rained on her so long that’s she’s finally getting her rainbow. Genesis actually getting to know her and watching him break down her walls. Knowing her for such a short time he always speaks life into her.That BDE is so,etching serious 😌😏. Even with China being a wild one she’s definitely a great friend to Journal. Can’t wait to see what’s to come of Harmony and Journals relationship.
The situation with Cyrus is such a sticky situation 😩 I really don’t know how that will play out.… All I know is Winnie and Hakeem better have their U obituaries written 🫢😭. That endingggggggggg was NOT on my bingo card AT ALL…. Heading right over to part two 🚶🏾♀️

Emotional roller coaster
This book speaks on so much but most of all the separation of siblings due to mother neglect was major. Journey was such a sweet soul even after all she went through in foster care and to reunite with her siblings and find out her sister was a celebrity was major. Meeting Slick and her best friend was probably the best thing ever for her but then Malik her ex has so much anger because she has moved on and his jealousy may cause him more than they both can handle. This book is so good as always you did your big one with this Diamond and I need book 2 like yesterday

Great story! Poor editing …
I love Diamond’s books. The storyline is always entertaining, and keeps you locked in. The only reason I’m giving 3 stars is because I expect so much more this far in when it comes to editing. There were SO many grammatical errors that it made such a good story challenging to get through. There were basic errors: using “to” instead of “two” for the number, the constant use of “your” when it was supposed to be “you’re”, extra commas everywhere, mixing up which character is speaking, and the nonstop repeating of information/conversations.
I’m really hoping there is much better editing for book 2.

LOVE IT
Diamond your books are so therapeutic, it has helped me forget about the stresses of my own life and hardships, just to be able to read your books and how detailed they are helps me visualize the scenes and the people in them. This is such a great book I love the relationship forming between genesis and journal, I love her innocence and his rugged nature but the ability to be a gentleman is so special… he is gentle with her a side he doesn’t show others… I love this story already and the genuine friendship journal and China have is so good to, journal is slowly gaining a circle that is very in love with her…

I’ve seen several reviews on IG raving on this boo. And I figured it would pull me from my reading slump. Well it did, but mostly because of how frustrated it made me.
There’s so much going on plot wise. And the timeline of events is unclear. Is this occurring over a week, a month, several months?!
I hate the FMC’s name, why not Journey? Journal. Odd. Also, it has been said in several reviews- but it bares repeating. Gramma and typos were annoying.
I did enjoy some aspects of how Slick was with Journal; putting her up on game. Looking out for her and protecting her.
Not sure if I’m reading further. But overall I would say this was meh.

Definitely a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read

Meeting Genesis has been her saving grace because he has stepped in and is making major changes to upgrade her life. There is still some drama unfolding and people popping up from the past which makes this story so much more interesting and I can’t wait until part 2 drops to see how everything continues to play out..

One thing about Ms. Diamond, she’s gonna write a damn book!!! First off, Journal is such a sweetheart and I hope she gets everything she deserves while building her confidence in the same breath. I love how everything is coming together for her! Genesis, Genesis, Genesis… we love a generous king 😂🤭 Jk but I love that man and can’t wait until he finds everybody that’s playing on his top! I would love to see more of China and Farrell, even Harmony funny acting self. That cliffhanger tho? Yup, drop part 2 immediately!!!

What a great Storyline
This storyline is amazing! Everyone has a story to tell. I read this book in 2 hours, lol… The siblings have all been through a lot and then the drama behind the brothers. I love the relationship you are creating between Journal and Genesis. He definitely a woman dream husband! Hell he got me ready to jump through this book, lol! Patiently waiting on Part 2 to learn Bryson story after the adoption and to see how everyone story will end. Diamond you never disappoint!

Absolutely Amazing Read
I loved these new characters! Slick saw Journal and instantly became intrigued. Although he had Winnie, she didn't give him the feelings he received upon meeting Journal for the first time. Journal was humble, and felt as if she didn't deserve anyone giving her anything. Winnie was jealous of everything about her. Slick loved everything about Journal and would give her the world. She brought him peace. They both were experiencing a lot of drama together. Slick is definitely going to turn Miami upside down. Awesome read. Can't wait for part two.

Journal was humble, and felt as if she didn't deserve anyone giving her anything. Winnie was jealous of everything about her. Slick loved everything about Journal and would give her the world. She brought him peace. They both were experiencing a lot of drama together. Slick is definitely going to turn Miami upside down. Awesome read. Can't wait for part two.

OMG My Good Girl was a great read can't wait for part 2
Journal went thru foster care system and losing her siblings at the age of 6. She was abused by her foster mother and she had a hard life. Journal was a cleaner maid that clean office buildings and houses. Journal was walking home from work and witnessed a murder. She meets Genesis who is not your average men he sales guns and run a tight ships. She and Genesis become closer and she falling for him. She is reunited with her siblings and hope to have her family.and fall in love.

Slow Sizzle
Oh wow!! Great job Diamond. I’m loving how you are allowing us to get a foundation started with the characters. Because I do believe that this is going to be my favorite book of 2024. I love the maturity of Slick and how he knows what he wants and how to get it. I love the journey that journal is about to embark on, finding and loving herself. I can already tell that the snakes around in slick camp can’t know that their days are numbered. Great read and I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2!!

Hmmmm
I didn’t see that cliffhanger coming. Wow, that’s an interesting cliffhanger. I like Journal and Genesis. I just wish Genesis was more proactive instead of reactive. If you know people are gunning for you, why are you waiting on them to come for you? Make it make sense. Why not put someone on them to follow them and be one step ahead? So, with that being said, it’s hard to take Genesis as the “man,” legitimately while he’s allowing people to play in his face. Anyways, it’s a good book.

My Good Girl
I feel like this book had so much potential to be better. It was so drawn out. But the thing that made me only give 2 stars was all of the mistakes. For Diamond Johnson to be a pro in the book game the mistakes were just ridiculous. Using your when you’re should have been used, over and over, almost gave me a stroke. Also the word ‘and’ was repeatedly used in places it should not have been used. I’m hoping book 2 is proofread before it’s published, so we can enjoy a good read.

Whew this book was so good I’m thinking the Bahamas trip needed to be the cliffhanger but nope journal brother being the bartender Bryani took me out . I love the relationship she building with Genesis I can’t wait to read what happens next. Between Journal reconnecting with her siblings her ex stealing from her new man . Her trying to move on and take things to the next level. Idk what I’m waiting for more.

great character development and plot, be grsmmar
Love the character development, love the plot, love the cliffhanger and will be awaiting Pt 2. But I had to take off a star for the constant “you’re” v “yours” and their, there, too and to. It was too much and too frequent. None of the books by this author have this many grammatical errors. Where was the editing? Please go back and fix. Even steal v steel. Totally took away from the book.

Diamond Diamond Diamond. I swear whatever you write i be reading and you didn't disappoint me one bit as usual. First off I love Journal, that girl has been through some things and I hope that Genesis is the that will make her and himself happy. Now that Winnie and Cyrus is trash all day. I’m really mad at myself. This was a blind read. Had I known it was going to end on a cliffhanger. I would’ve waited on the complete series.
With that said, I enjoyed this story. It was cool and easy read. I appreciated that Genesis took the time to get to know Journal. I can’t wait to see Journal come into her own. What interests her? What is she passionate about? I feel like she’s coasting, and I know her coming up will be amazing.

What a way to end this read. In my heart , I knew that that was Journal brother. I'm glad that Harmony did come to her senses because when she first went about how she handled, journal was wrong. I'm so glad Slick let Journal get her lick back when it came to Winnie because they played a dirty game. Slick gone cut up when he finds out about Cyrus and Winnie dealings. I enjoyed this read.
