Es gracioso leer cómics de este tipo, cuando realmente estaban dirigidos a niños. Tiene un aquel romántico.

More Fun Comics #73

An early DC magazine, More Fun Comics was a superhero anthology that introduced several major figures in the DC pantheon. Issue #73 introduces Green Arrow and Aquaman, each getting their own story, alongside stories featuring Doctor Fate, The Spectre, Clip Carson and more. Aquaman's arrival is a clear response to Timely Comics' Sub-Mariner, but distinctive features allowed the character to thrive across his subsequent entries. The Green Arrow story is perhaps a more traditional debut for a character, introducing the Robin Hood stand-in as an established hero with his sidekick, Speedy. The visual gags of his various arrows are prevalent early on, making the promise for the character known early on.

Pretty sure this is the first thing I've ever read from this era and it doesn't make me want to read more. Most of this is forgettable, a lot of it has not aged well and some is actually bad. Read this because it's the first appearance of Green Arrow and while I enjoyed that set up (even if it is a blatant Batman ripoff), the podcasters I critiqued the first half of the issue wi disagreed. I defer to them. You can listen to that on the 74th episode of "Introducing: The First Appearance Pod". The Aquaman intro, however, is undeniably good and it's interesting to see how the character's core backstory has evolved.

Review for Green Arrow segments of More Fun Comics 73-78.

This is worth the read for its historical relevance to the comic book world. Not only does issue 73 introduce Green Arrow and Speedy, but Aquaman as well! It's clear in these early days that they don't really know what they want from the Green Arrow character. He spends half the time as a Batman clone complete with youthful ward and a police commissioner and the other half fighting knights and pirates. As a comic book fan, specifically a Green Arrow fan, you've got to read these, but there isn't much there outside of novelty.

We discussed this run, plus the Green Arrow's complicated history in a special episode of the All the Books Show: https://soundcloud.com/allthebooks/ep...
