My baby's here. Her father's not. And if I have it my way, we'll never see him again.
Because Matvey Groza stomped my heart to smithereens. It went pretty much like "I love you." "I'm marrying someone else."
I'm paraphrasing, but not by much. Because some facts are undeniable.
Matvey got me pregnant. FACT. I'm just now starting labor. FACT. But Matvey is nowhere to be found. FACT. Because he's busy getting married... To the other woman he knocked up. FACT.
He said there's more at play than I could understand, but what's so hard to understand about that? He swore he'd be there for me, and he's not. He said he loved me, but he doesn't.
So I'm taking our baby and I'm running. Let him try to catch us if he can.
CASHMERE RUIN is Book 2 of the Groza Bratva duet. The story begins in Book 1, CASHMERE CRUELTY.
Nicole Fox writes smart, sexy mafia romance novels. She is a crazy cat lady in her late 30s with a coffee addiction, an overactive imagination, and a husband who somehow puts up with her impulsive need to keep buying new plants for their house.
Quick Opinion: I started majorly skimming at around 60% and decided to call it quits. This was... boring. The mob drama wasn't even interesting. This took me what felt like forever to get to ~60% and that was because I just wasn't motivated to go back. I'm really not sure why I continued for so long because I struggled with the first book too. I think I just was really rooting for this to turn around and become entertaining. Sorry to be blunt, but it wasn't for me 🤷🏻♀️
I am so baffled that this book has such high reviews. I’m wondering what I’m missing? None of these characters are likable except maybe Charlie and May.
April was basically cast aside and turned into his whore because she wasn’t his Bratva BLOOD. He married another woman. There is absolutely no excuse. If Petra was such a ‘strong’ woman, and Yuri wasn’t a total spineless crybaby they should’ve handled their own situation. The fact that the female character goes right back to sleeping with Matvey and he didn’t have to do ANYTHING to make the situation better was disgusting. As a matter of fact she ended up apologizing to him and taking the blame for leaving! 😳🤯
However she totally deserves however she gets treated by him because I have rarely seen a female character need a backbone more than her. She got mad at Matvey for beating up her step dad that was trying to rape her! Maybe I read too much dark romance because I was hoping Tom would be unalived and meanwhile they’re paying his hospital bills! 🤦♀️🤣
Her and Matvey are probably made for each other because she is a weak ass side piece and that’s what he wanted. There was no redeeming qualities to him. I have read tons of really “bad”, dark MMC’s that you would think were terrible and did some terrible things and still groveled and were written so well they won me back. These characters were not it!

What a pathetic pick me who let both Matvey and Petra just walk all over her like she was invisible.
Ugh, what a child, how she jumps about finally getting to marry him.
It means nothing after he married Petra.
He chose her.
Pathetic how April lets them all gaslight her.
But April isn't real, she exists for the Unseen, Unloved and utterly Unfucked to live through and prove they can sacrifice for mister floppy dick, the best.
Ugh, not once did I ever feel sorry for him.
Men need to have more emotional exercise the sad sorry incels.
Books like this make me celebrate the fertility rates dropping.
Beautiful.
Would have been nice to see her be a person, but she's a place holder for the wallflowers to tell the Loved women how to do it right for the toxic toddlers.
Who he spends the book telling the world, is his, is the most important part.
But again, shes unseen, a sack of microbial bullshit.
Such a good conclusion! This writer is so skilled at writing in such a smooth storytelling way that keeps the plot moving but doesn’t drag. Add in some spice and some humour and it’s great. This book picks up with April on the run after Matvey announces he is marrying pregnant Petra. Tired of being second choice, and after Matvey distances himself and pushes her away, April takes her daughter and hides away. But you can’t hide long from the bratva, or from its enemies. As more estranged family members come into play and bring new dangers. But even once reunited, can either April or Matvey forgive the other for all their wrongs, lies and mistakes?
↬ Hero loves heroine ↬ Hero has to and DOES marry faux-OW to protect his brother ↬ Faux-OW's baby is not his (they can't even stand each other)
The info the heroine knows:
↬ Hero told her she wasn't enough for him, so he's marrying faux-OW ↬ Hero doesn't trust her ↬ Hero doesn't care enough to be present during the birth of their child
Given that the heroine is the unwanted child in two marriages (both parents divorces, both parents remarried, both parents were in a custody battle... to not have custody of her), she realizes she doesn't want their child to be the bastard to the 'legitimate' heir, the unwanted one at the table, so she runs.
When the hero finds her like three pages into this book, these things are still true for her. Yeah, he tells her about the baby not being his, but she's finding out now!
Why is the hero's anger the one being justified more? Why does he get to make her feel bad for leaving when he's the one that married another woman without telling her why? Why does he get to feel all butt hurt and the heroine is forced to go along with it?
Nope, I don't care. bye.

Though enjoyable, it forever to finish. It was an okay read; it was just not authentic, but it was entertaining. There was a little bit of everything thrown in like comedy, romance, and mafia. It was not in the regular mafia sense. This book requires a suspension of reality.
Fabulous conclusion to the duet with lots of twists and turns. These characters have you completely invested in their outcomes. This one wasn't quite the emotional pride the first one was, but still really good ❤.
So, did both these books need this many pages? My answer, NOPE Just for the record, I don’t know of a single Bravta boss whose security is this shit! You’d assume that April would be safe in his penthouse, but no, she was attacked whilst heavily pregnant, harassed not once but twice by her so called family there and even managed to run away with a baby no less! All from this penthouse that should have been like a fortress! I mean come on, did he not check the camera footage when she left the hospital and went to pack up at the penthouse?! How do you not know she had help from your brother?! And which mafia boss is stupid enough to not know how to smoke out a mole?! Oh, and before I forget, babies don’t giggle at 4 weeks! And they definitely cannot look around a room at that age! They can barely see 30cm in front of them for the first 4 weeks of their life! Matvey is written to sound like a petty gangster and April is so naive, I have to wonder how she made it this far. My biggest issue with all Nicole’s books, is the no protection sex! In this day and age, it’s just so unrealistic. Especially for big bad guys, that are so wise to this world. Please refer a book of hers that starts off differently!
DNF He playing the victim card ( while marry another woman-Petra) even if it’s fake she didn’t know, Heroine not being angry That stupid Petra getting a hug… Just too much No grovel No angry conversation Pass

The ending to this series was perfect! It was heartbreaking in the beginning for both what April and Matevy went through. April especially with the terrible relationship she has with her family. This story focuses on found family and how important it is. It is a beautiful story and it is another one of my favorites from Nicole Fox!
Who the heck is on the cover of this book? It’s not about our h nor the OW according to their descriptions! I enjoyed this book, the angst, and the conclusion. I would’ve liked more groveling, especially after he missed the birth. That part was sort of glossed over because he was mad at her and punishing her. It bothered me how quickly she settled for being the woman on the side. I also thought the books were very long.
Overall it was an enjoyable duet despite the H’s many blunders including being not very good at being a Bratva leader!

Matvey has been looking for April for over 4 weeks. He wasn’t able to find her because he doesn’t know his brother is behind he escape and know where she is at and has been redirecting the search teams. That is until he has no choice but to tell Matvey because April has been kidnapped again. April has been at a run down motel working there to make ends meet. There she is clocked in the head and taken to an isolated cabin by a man she does not know. Matvey shows up with his men in tow just as the man has her to gun point because she would not agree to double cross Matvey by relaying info to him so that he can take over the organization. He rescues her and his daughter from his own father. There is no real backstory on why the dad wants to kill Matvey. Clearly it’s power but I felt it lacked depth. After Matvey just treats April like shit. He alienates her making her seem like a terrible person. He does not consider his role in all this and why it led up to that. He lied to her and made her feel betrayed. Unworthy and not willing to put her daughter through what she went through growing up she felt it was best to leave. The first 200 pages or so he is just raging at her calling her the bitch that took his daughter away from him. It’s hard to experience this as I’m reading it. I’m raged on her behalf. Not that she isn’t at fault too but she owned up to her mistakes and apologized and is carrying the weight of all the guilt while he doesn’t take any ownership at all. He told her the whole first book that he couldn’t trust anyone that wants blood and she’d never be family because she wasn’t blood. His actions led to all this unnecessary drama if he just was the leader and man he should have been. And yes he deserves Grace if he had owned up to his part. The turning point was when April got an invitation to bring May to meet her Dad and his family. She naively goes because she hopes that maybe he wants to be apart of her and his granddaughters life. But no, she is harassed, bullied by the stepmom and sisters. Then confusingly, her dad writes out a half million check and demands in return for custody for her daughter, May. Stating she wasn’t worthy and that she is a horrible person and mom and couldn’t possibly raise a child and that they are better suited. Just didn’t make sense they’d want her child but didn’t want her. The reason was that April observed was that their daughters were rotten and horrible people and they were just trying to use her daughter as a clean slate with another child. After this visit April changed. She went from a doting mother to just not present and loss in a trance like state. She wasn’t there and people could sense something was wrong but didn’t know what. One night Matvey goes to her and finds her dangling over the balcony. She wasn’t herself and didn’t know how she got there and was thinking it was all a dream and just wanted all the guilt and her sense of being a bad mom to go away. She was going to end it as if it wasn’t real because she thought it was a dream. Matvey desperately tried to talk her off the literal edge. He finally reaches her and she snaps back to. He admits his feelings for her and that they were always real. He takes some ownership but still hasn’t grasped everything yet. She gets help and finds out she suffering from postpartum depression that was triggered by what her dad did to her. She’s working her therapy and funneling all her energy into a designer contest where she will go to a major school to study design if she wins. When she goes to enter the competition her evil step sister and mom are there and they have stolen her design when she was visiting she had her sketch stuff in her bag that fell out. She has to design a whole new dress in 48 hours. She accomplished the impossible with an already preexisting design she has that she modifies into a gun armed wedding dress. The whole time Matvey and Petra are supporting her. It seems like June was kind of left out of this book. She ends up winning the contest and even gets the step sister back in her nice April way; she tells Anne the step sister that she wants to be sisters and that she’s there for her if she wants help and Anne laughs it off and outting herself for stealing her design. The next thing that happens is her mom shows up at the penthouse trying to act coy as if she’s a doting mother and wants to see her granddaughter but ends up being about asking for money since she found out about the competition win. April tells her no and her mom tells her she’s a selfish bitch and leaves. The next thing Charlie (her half brother) shows up with a bruise on his eye. He stays the night and they with Matvey hang out. Matvey leaves for work the next day. He’s dealing with a mole he’s trying to catch within his organization that’s at the top. When he leaves Ted, the step dad shows up. Ted tells her she’s just a whore to a married man (because Matvey and Petra did get married). Ted has his hands all over April and is about to gr@pe her when Matvey shows up. He saves her and beats the dad to a pulp. April gets mad, Charlie is scared of Matvey so she kicks him out. This catapults April to seeing that she cannot be second choice and she asks Matvey where she stands and how long the marriage to protect Petra and his brother will go on. He thought she supported this decision and he’s confused because he thought him loving her is enough. He goes to apologize to Charlie about his actions and Charlie told him that he’s glad April has him because she has never had anyone choose her. And that’s when it dons on Matvey that he wasn’t showing any action that she was his choice and that she was second fiddle. He immediately goes to April and tells her from outside the door that he chooses her and what he had realized when she opens the door he gets down on one knee and proposes and put the hair tie he saved of hers when they met on her finger and that’s when she realizes that his love for her is real. The next thing (when Matvey is gone) Yuri shows up to talk to April. He then oddly apologizes with no explanation other than he had no choice and conks her out. She wakes up in a cell without her baby. She finds out from Yuri that he’s working for Carmine. their dad. He said he had no choice he has to protect his family. She doesn’t understands. It comes out that when he did the paternity testing he lost Matvey’s hair and decided to use his own in place since they are related it should show a percentage of DNA relation. Come to find out he was a 0 match. He thinks maybe she’s lying after all but just in case he has himself tested against Matvey and redoes the paternity test. He is not a match. And since Carmine is tracking the lab results he reaches out to Yuri to make a deal with him. Since Matvey made this whole huge deal about only blood matters. Yuri thinks that Matvey will just disown him and that he won’t be able to protect himself , Petra and their baby that’s on the way. I get his fear because Matvey was HUGE on it but just recently changed his mind because of Aprils influence. If only Yuri had spoke to him. But who knows. So Yuri made the deal with the devil thinking it was the lesser of 2 evils. April outsmarts the guard and gets ahold of his phone. She calls Matvey to warn him about Yuri being the mole. meanwhile Matvey already knows because Yuri told him he either surrenders to save his family or they all day in 3 days. Matvey has gathered his men which includes Vlad and his men. As they are meeting up to go free his family, April calls tells him about Yuri. Also that Vlad is working with Carmine. Petra shows up as this is all going down and they are out at gun point and she refuses to turn sides she’s loyal to April. Matvey surrenders because at least he will be brought to his family to figure things out from there. He wakes up in the same cell as April and Petra. They scheme and Petra pretends that’s she’s going into labor and or having a miscarriage. When the guards come in Matvey and Petra taken them down. They think they can escape but come to find out the maze is a cell of its own. Carmine, Yuri, and Vlad surround them. They raise the gun to kill them when Yuri asks to be the one to take his brother down in an official dual. So their lives are spared for now. The dual goes down and when Matvey has Yuri he realizes how he had his part his brother’s decision making so he surrenders again. They take Matvey to Carmine and have him kneel before him to execute him. when Petra, Yuri and Matvey all act to free the baby while also take down all the men. Everything seems to be working when Vlad has April and her baby at gun point and Yuri steps in and takes the bullet. At the same time Carmine shoots Matvey in the heart. But Carmine doesn’t know that he has on the suit jacket that April designed with Kevlar for him. April is talking to Carmine distracting him while Matvey is at his back. Matvey kills his dad. Petra kills her dad, Vlad. And they are all checking on Yuri when the rest of Vlads guard surrounds them about to shoot. Petra tries to enact a rule that whoever kills the leader takes over Vlads role since she is his heir. But they won’t recognize a woman for that role. They think they are dead again when Matvey 2nd in charge loyal man shows up when their men and they take them all down. Yuri survives there’s grace, forgiveness and ownership by Matvey to Yuri and Yuri in return and that he claims him as his brother blood or not. The end Petra and Matvey get a divorce and at the same time Petra and Yuri and Matvey and April get married. It’s cute they share an anniversary and the bonus epilogue from Matvey’s POV for 10 years later they are all celebrating their anniversary together as a family with their kids in tow. It was a sweet epilogue. Despite the holes in the story line I gave a 5 star because the emotions it evoked for me personally.

Voto 3,5 .

This is the second part and the conclusion of Matvey and April’s journey. April has had her baby, but Matvey is not there as he is getting married, so she does what she must and runs, with some help, Matvey is relentless in his pursuit off finding April and their baby. April is determined and strikes up an unexpected friendships, with Petra, with his hilarious. My heart broke for April who has had a tough life, and she is finally pushed to the limits at always being second best, and her family consists of her closest friends, not the blood related one, as they are horrific. Will Matvey be able to find April and the baby before it is too late? This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family dynamics, friendships, danger, suspense, intrigue, acceptance, drama, angst, alliances, betrayal, loyalty, trust, unexpected twists, humor, witty banter, kidnapping, and love, which leads to a spicy, entertaining, tragic, heartfelt, and unpredictable, addictive page turner, which is the perfect conclusion to this brilliant duet. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Blood, Family and Loyalty are a major factor in the 2nd and last book in this duet. With the arrival of May she brought more complications into April and Matvey's difficult relationship. It also made April focus on what the relationship entails and her part in Matvey's life especially with his marriage to Petra in this book. I really liked Petra. Her brand of caustic humour and blood thirsty was refreshingly funny and offset perfectly against Matvey's cold detachment. As April sank deeper into Post Natal depression which escalated more with the interference of her flaming awful family except Charlie (I liked him).
This was a cracking end to this duet and I loved reading it so much. My only criticism is that we didn't get any book time with Grisha and June in this book. I would have loved to read more from them. Never mind I still loved it.
3.5 stars The story continues where it was left in the first one. April and Matvey are still a bit thick, there's a lot of miscommunication that allows for the "plot twist" to happen (you could see it coming from a mile long). Still, I liked it. It's very Nicole-ish but I liked it better than some of her previous works. I loved Petra, wish there was a bit more of her. I also wish there was more of Matveys groveling since he's so dense and such a dick to almost everyone. 100 points for the mental health representation and calling out April's awful family. But also, it was at times like too much was happening, thus the longish book Anyway, I liked it and am so grateful for Nicole keeping up with her writing and her Bratva stories.
I am not a mafia reader but this sounded intriguing and it was okay. The guy was an idiot and the heroine could have done better than him. He was such a jerk and then there's Post Partum depression, attempted suicide, daddy issues, betrayal and death. Crazy ride. I did read the entire book, but i skipped over the unromantic sex scenes. There was some glimmer there but overall it just didn't feel like a romance. He came to his senses halfway through the book but.I really wanted her to make him pay. But she rolled over I feel. Took him back even when she was still his side piece. Poor judgement all the way around. The ending was intense! I'd read this author again. I just need to remember That mafia romance comes with blood and violence.
Ooooo this series was so good!!! The visuals I had floating in my head for every love scene, Hate scene, every dress and sketch of a dress was so vivid and amazing!! It was playing out like a movie in my mind. Matvey Groza. Pakhan of the Groza Bratva, April Flowers?? The strongest most patient woman around!and her nugget; May!? What a perfect name for her and June to have! I love Grisha I had my doubts but was proved wrong. Carmine can go you know what. Petra! I hope she finds love with that person and is content in her new role. I cannot forgive Yuri as easily as Matvey did. What a great book!!
1. The second of a bratva pekhan can be a confidentless pushover 2. Being a side piece is ok as long as you know the wife. 3. A bratva pekhan can gain a mafia army when you marry a mafia princess, even if you live with said side piece in your penthouse apartment.
I'm sure there are more, but those are the first three off the cuff.
And I really do still think that Yuri is useless and can die in a fire.
Matvey makes a big deal out of always saying blood is everything, only family matters. Whereas April feels that family is who you choose and doesn't always mean being blood related. Who will be proven right in the end??
With this conclusion in this duet I did feel some things were left unanswered.
I did feel Yuri was let off easy. Petra grew on me a little more but I still held a grudge on her having Matvey marry her to cover her ass not caring how it would affect April. Petra's character reminds me a lot of Petra from Jane the Virgin show from her appearance to her awkwardness regarding affection to her being the first wife to becoming close friends with the new one.
April unfortunately did get a moment where I wasn't happy with her. Yes Matvey went ballistic on Tom...but you really upset over it when he technically saved you from being SA??!!
We literally didn't hear anymore about Charlie her younger brother, her deadbeat parents, etc.
I still was confused why Carmine was trying to kill his own son?
But overall it was a good read.

April and Matvey epic love story continues. April gives birth, Matvey made no efforts to keep his promises so April decides she will raise their daughter May alone. During that time of course they are taken. Matvey goes on a rescue mission. Nicole does a wonderful job addressing PPD in the most gentle/realistic way. April pushes Matvey away, he has to help her out of her funk. Will the couple overcome their obstacles. Lots of twist and turns.
Story is well written. The drama/action and sex scenes continue. We get our signature HEA. Throughout the story we get witty banter with the main characters.
I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was more annoyed then anything with this one. Maybe even disappointed considering book one was good enough to get my hopes up.
April was extremely annoying. Petra was “pregnant” the whole book yet she was doing flying kicks and warrior princessing it up .. and the live-mannequin 🙄. Yuri I get the change-up but his loyalty to April wouldn’t have allowed that sway and his love for Petra also wouldn’t have. Then there’s Matvey, the almighty Pakhan, who has no clue. Who has a team of people and yet only two real “workers” that he relies heavily on but doesn’t listen to.
All in all I was too annoyed by the characters and the ridiculous shenanigans happening to be able to enjoy this sequel.
