My name's Heidi Rice, I'm a USA Today Bestselling author. I'm married with two sons (which gives me rather too much of an insight into the male psyche!).

I love my job because it involves sitting down at my computer and getting swept up in a world of high emotions, sensual excitement, funny feisty women, sexy tortured men and glamourous locations where laundry doesn't exist ...

I also tutor a 14-week in-depth online Write a Romance Novel course. So, if you have ever wanted to learn how to write romance from a bestselling author, check it out here: www.profwritingacademy.com/course/wri...

Now I believe wholeheartedly that readers should give honest and open reviews on Goodreads and Amazon and elsewhere. If you didn't like a book you are entitled to say so (even if it's mine! ouch). But you may notice that none of my book reviews are less than four-stars. That's simply because as an author myself I know how pathetically sensitive I am about bad reviews and with that in mind I prefer to spread the love among other authors — and don't do public reviews of books I didn't like. Just thought I'd clarify that!

Poppy and Xander (Alex) had one night of passion, and they both agreed to keep it uncomplicated. For the last 5 months, Xander could not get her out of his mind. They had a connection. The night before his engagement announcement yo Princess Freya (arranged marriage/buisness deal), he saw Poppy. He saw she was 5 months pregnant, his child. He had demands, and he paid off her employer and kinda kidnapped her. "Rich people always throwing their money around, never understanding the true value."

Poppy only wanted him to know about the baby. She asked for nothing. Because she eventually found out he was a billionaire and he would never love her. She tried to convince herself, telling Xander was the right thing to do. Xander broke off the engagement with Princess Freya. His priority was now Poppy and the baby. Xander wants to make sure they are both taken care of.

Xander and Poppy both had rough lives. I'm surprised they struggled to connect. They seem like they needed each other the most( I can relate to Poppy. My mother tried her best to provide for 3 little girls. We always had used things.) I understand Xander. It's hard for him to love, considering his father up and left. Patience is the key here.

I love these Heidi stories, the plots are entertaining, quick to read and with a good ending. Xander never thought that the affair he had with Poppy had been more than temporary. Poppy never thought that the father of the child she was expecting was a rich man who hid his true identity from her. The situation between them was more than complicated, but Xander would not let his son grow up away from him. This story has a happy ending.

I first begin my reading adventure with Harlequin and then Harlequin Present a young girl. I pick this book and was not disappointed. I enjoyed being swept away with the Greek alpha billionaire. Poppy encounters a gorgeous Greek man on the beach. But there was consequences that disrupted both of their lives. This book provides the reader with desire, secret identity, dilemmas, marriage, family, developing relationship, learning to trust and love.

The Heir Affair is the first story in the Harlequin Presents duo, Claimed by the Greek. Poppy and Xander (Alex as he was first known to Poppy) are about as opposite as two people could possibly get. Yet, at their core, they share a past of being left alone, one on purpose, the other through her mother’s death. They both dealt with those emotional traumas far differently, as we will discover.

Poppy and Alex had sneaked onto a billionaire’s island, a place where she had shared a cherished memory with her mother. Unknown to Poppy, Xander had every right to be here since it was his island. But they had agreed to remain anonymous, first names only. Their hours on the island stayed with them far longer than either could have imagined. Five months later, Poppy was still on his mind, a yearning for a woman he didn’t understand, and could not ignore. When he glimpses a woman in a restaurant who reminds him of Poppy, he quickly investigates only to discover something he never could have imagined, although he should have known of the possibility… Poppy was pregnant with his child, and he’d do anything to protect them both.

I enjoyed The Heir Affair by Heidi Rice very much. Poppy and Xander are a passionate couple, and while not financially equal, their stubbornness makes up for any other shortcomings. I loved watching Xander’s protective walls slowly crumble under Poppy’s care. He may have thought he could not love; he was wrong. The Heir Affair is well-written, emotional, and passionate, and brings two people who are so deserving of being loved for themselves together. I look forward to the next story in this duo, Greek’s Kidnapped Princess.

This title will be released on August 26, 2025.

Five stars you say? Well I'm an absolute sucker for a pining hero. But don't tell Xander because he would absolutely deny any pining. In fact any "feelings" at all
he grew up knowing feelings made you weak and he had to be strong.
Xander and Poppy met five months ago when he was visiting the Greek islands where he owns and island and is building a house.
Poppy lost her mother years ago as a teenager and remembers the last happy holiday she had on a Greek island that is now owned by some Greek millionaire.
Yes, dear reader, Xander lied about who he was because he wanted to enjoy the vivacious Poppy without the complications his wealth always caused. To be fair Poppy even suggested being semi anonymous as part of the allure of a day out of time with a magical experience.
Which came back to bite her when she finds herself pregnant with no way of finding the anonymous "Alex".
Emptying her bank account to return to Greece seemed like a great idea at the time until she finds out who "Alex" really is and that he's about to become engaged.
Still she'll do her duty, so she rolls up to the small principality where the engagement party is to be held.
Xander is there of course, because engagement party, of course.
The fact that he recognised Poppy from inside his limousine while she worked in a restaurant might seem unlikely. But this is where the pining comes in. He's been looking for Poppy for five months. Maybe not actively but she haunts him.
What comes next is decidedly unPC. Xander goes all old skool alpha male. Lucky Poppy is no wilting flower and it was a delight to see her school him.
The ending was very satisfying.
I really enjoyed this story and can hardly wait for book two in this series where Xander's playboy brother mixes it up with Princess Freya, the jilted almost Fiancée of Xander.

I really liked this story!

Poppy Brown and Alex (known as Xander as in Alexander Caras to everyone else) meet on a Greek Island and have a wonderful day together, they decide from the start not to give last names. When Alex suggest breaking into the home of a billionaire, Poppy is onboard. They end there day exploring the home and eventually falling into bed for an unforgettable night of passion. The next morning, no Alex, and Poppy moves on.

Months later, Alex can't stop thinking about Poppy and when he sees her working in a local restaurant, he's excited to see her despite his current non-romantic circumstances. She turns around and he sees she's pregnant, immediately he asks that old-age question: "Is it mine?" The answer is yes. The reply throws a monkey-wrench into his expansion plans and throws Poppy's not so carefully planned future into chaos and order.

Can they be more than just parents of a bad decision made in the heat of the moment? They both learn how to navigate the unexpected surprise of parenthood and their unresolved feelings for one another that neither was onboard with embracing. I was surprised at the level of spice (in a Harlequin Romance), but it worked for their story and their chemistry. I loved getting the perspective of both the Alex and Poppy and how neither of them can forget what that day meant.

I'm definitely looking foward to Book 2 that features Xander's brother Theo who takes one for the team when he decides to pick up the pieces of his brother's broken engagement. Highly Recommended: Read It!

The Heir Affair is the first book in the author’s claimed by a Greek series of two very hot brothers.
This first book follows Alexander (Xander) Caras who is soon to announce his engagement to a princess that will secure the future of Caras shipping.
The only problem is he can’t stop thinking about the woman he’d met five months prior, Poppy Brown.
On the way to the Caras yacht with his brother he sees a waitress through a restaurant window and can’t believe its the woman his heart has been yearning for.
A quick escape from his car and he comes face to face with an obviously pregnant Poppy, and yes it is his child as he soon discovers.
I enjoyed this enchanting spicy read and my first by this author.
Xander is going to have to do some serious groveling after getting Poppy out of the restaurant and onto his yacht, and not only because he wasn’t honest with her when they first met about who he really was, a Greek shipping magnate!
Nice writing, drama, and a reawakening of the chemistry felt when they’d first met brings the reader along on their entertaining journey through family dynamics, emotion, and passion to a happily ever after.
Looking forward to brother Theo’s story.

An unforgettable day on a Greek island with leads to a whole lot of fate!
I fell in love with Poppy as she faces the consequences alone after a day spent with Alex on a Greek island where she spent a happy moment with her now deceased mother. When she returns to try to find Alex as they never exchanged last names or numbers, she discovers his real identity and the owner of the island. I wanted to hate Xander for lying about his identity as a billionaire and to expand their shipping business in to luxury cruises, agrees to marry the owner’s daughter to complete the deal despite never forgetting Poppy. A chance encounter has Xander spying Poppy as a waitress and to say that the moment defines the rest of the story wouldn’t be an understatement. Xander has a whole lot of learning to do in respect to Poppy, but will he? You have to read to find out and will be rooting for Xander to realize what he lost!

The Heir Affair is the first book in the Claimed By The Greek Series which focuses on the turbulent relationship of Xander, an engaged billionaire planning on a marriage of convenience as part of a business deal, and Poppy, a waitress. They have a one night fling which results in a pregnancy as Poppy searches for Alex which was the fake name Xander used when they were together. He observes her pregnancy while Poppy was working and the course of his life is altered but not with her cooperation due to his deceit. This enjoyable book has strong emotions, drama, lies, kidnapping, past traumas, and a steamy romance between two diametrically opposite characters.

“The Heir Affair” by Heidi Rice

-A passionate vacation fling turns complicated when secrets, status, and a surprise baby collide. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Xander and Poppy’s journey is emotional, angsty, and full of raw vulnerability. He’s possessive and powerful; she’s resilient and guarded—together they fight for connection.

A dramatic, heartfelt modern fairytale with billionaire stakes and real emotional weight. I am a fan of Heidi Rice older books.

Amazing love story. Heroine was very fierce but also a sweetheart. Hero was sex on legs. He was alpha but vulnerable and very loving. Did I mention he was filthy rich? I mean come on...a man who gives his wife an island as a wedding gift? Dreamy...lol

Safety info: no cheating, both celibate while apart and no virgins here.
