This book is not for preparing another exam. It is for fun. Fun in mathematics. Yes, math can be fun, if you love it. If you don’t, this book may convert you.

I wish that I had this book when I was in high school. It would be a lot of fun. If I had worked on those problems related to physics, seeing them again in a higher level study would be like “Oh yeah! I saw it in high school. It’s easy!” There are many other problems related to other part of the real world. That’s why I recommend this book to every high school student who wishes to explore further.

Even this book is twenty plus years late, I am still enjoying it very much. One part I particularly like is the Inquire and Investigate section in each chapter. These parts of the book are designed for the 21st century, the age with Google and Wikipedia. Each inquiry or investigating topic opens a gate, linked by the internet, leading to fascinating stories or intriguing math properties.

My favorite chapter is the last one, the Escapades Chapter. I can’t believe that so many seemingly simple questions are still open, unsolved. Of course, like all math lovers, I’ve also daydreamed to solve one and win a big prize.

Other than the current students, I can imagine that this book would be also useful to high school math teachers. It may give you a few extra mathematical tricks up your sleeves.

Well, I am one of the authors, so I am partial to this book.

I have tried to put in everything I had enjoyed about mathematics when I was in high-school, and I hope that I have managed to illustrate some flavour of mathematics as a living subject, rather than a collection of dry facts to be memorised and used in tests.

The website for the book has a 46 page extract of the book for sample viewing.

Here is a video summary.

This is the Singapore edition, which has the same content as the International edition, but with a different cover and binding, and hence different pricing and ISBN.

This Singapore edition is available through
