A gentleman with a past, and a society Miss who is firmly on the shelf.

After his father's death, Ramsey Hellion returns to England to escape the hell of his past. But the moment he meets Miss Flora Thomas, his carefully constructed world unravels. Beautiful, and fiercely independent, Flora wants nothing to do with him. But Ramsey has always enjoyed a challenge—and Flora’s disdain only fuels his pursuit.
When the sins of his father catch up with him, Ram realizes he needs more than just Flora’s love—he needs her to save him from the darkness that still haunts him.

Flora has little patience for handsome men, and Ramsey Hellion is one who believes he should receive universal adoration. She knows first hand the cost of being controlled by a man—she’s lived it. But when danger returns to Ramsey’s life, she has no choice but to act. Even though she’s fought against it, Flora realizes that a life without Ramsey Hellion is one she’s unwilling to face.

This is my 42nd book by Wendy Vella and I've been reading her since 2016. I do consider her a favorite and always enjoy her books. I have really liked this series. Book 3, The Fallen Viscount has been my favorite so far. Really looking forward to this one.

I enjoyed this story with Ramsey and Flora. Sometimes the Nightingale family stories can be a bit confusing, which this was at times, but Ramsey and Flora were such a great couple to read. I loved their various "baggage" issues and they made for a great storyline. Overall a good read.

Packed with the warmth, laughter & heart of family, friendship and the drama that goes with it

Straight into the action, I was hooked! Ram and Flora's attraction bloomed through a craving that drew them beyond the bickering and biting remarks, to a deeper understanding, that surprised and opened their eyes to a deeper love. Thanks to one savvy bit of intelligence and a bravery born of a "no way will I play the damsel in distress" mindset. Great fun!
With Vella's signature warmth, heart and abundance of family humour and closeness this was destined to be a winner. Bound tight with close knit -I'd do anything for you- friendships and an array of kooky neighbourhood characters to enjoy and cherish, reeled me in and, as always, will keep me coming back for more time and time again

THE REBELLIOUS RAKE teased with secrets to unpick, a spot of past pain enducing intrigue to explore and a villain to whittle out of hiding. All of which added fun, humour and drama to the mix. Interwoven with an engaging, full of colour band of characters, so cleverly depicted and brought to life and an enduring, "you complete me, though I'm gonna give it a good go denying it, yet I can't live without you" love that so easily pulls you in and had me not just emotionally invested but tearing up, laughing and melting at the sentiment entangled within.
Another wonderful edition to a series, about a family, their friends and the wealth of characters that inhabit their world that you just can't help but want to spend time with!

~I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own~

Ramsey has been one of my favorite characters since we first met him, and I’ve always desperately wanted to know more about the charming rogue. I’m not sure if Flora was quite what I pictured as his forever, but her fiery independent spirit was the perfect foil against his irreverent charm and devil may care attitude. I loved how the dangers they faced brought them closer together and forced them to confront their true feelings for one another. I think we all suspected that all the animosity they started with was covering something else. I don’t know what the author has planned for us next, and I don’t even care. All I know is that I want to read it, whatever it is.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.

Another gem from Wendy Vella!
Every time I finish one of Wendy’s books, it becomes my new favorite—just like this one. Ramsey and Flora’s story was a joy to read, filled with heartwarming moments and depth. I loved catching up with the Sinclair family and familiar faces from the other series, though I did miss Cam and his antics this time around.

As always, Wendy’s characters feel like friends, and you can’t help but root for them to find happiness. It was wonderful to see Ramsey get his happily ever after with a strong, opinionated woman—just like all of Wendy’s incredible heroines.

I can’t wait for the next installment!

Honestly, I’d love for Wendy to write an extended epilogue (as a book) for all the Sinclairs, Ravens, Langleys and the others giving us a glimpse into how they’re all doing. I’d read that in a heartbeat!

That first adventure for Ramsey & Flora was one I never expected to read about. Flora was definitely strong for dealing with that! I love returning to this series because the characters (and they are such characters!) are so witty and blend together so well. I love when the neighbors start appearing elsewhere in the story. They pop up when you least expect them. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

Loved it

Another really riveting read from this author. I couldn’t wait to download this book and then once started I did not want to put it down. It was lovely catching up with all of the family. Although it can be read as a standalone, trust me when I say once you have read this story you will want to read the previous ones in the series. A definite must read.

Fun

All the wonderful characters we’ve come to know. I love the writing style of Wendy Vella. All the characters are so clearly written you can’t help the clear picture of the story. Many laughs within this strong loving family and neighborhood. And of course throw some Sinclair’s in and more the merrier!

I loved this story!!! I've been waiting for Ramsey's story and it did not disappoint. I enjoy the sniping between him and Flora as well as all the inhabitants of Crabbett Close. Seeing the Sinclair/Ravens , Lord and Lady Raine, and the Duchess again is like a family reunion. One of my favorite authors and an automatic preorder, I highly recommend her books.

I’m a huge fan of not only this series but all the series by this author. You are never left wanting with these stories other than wanting more. Each book brings back your favorite characters so you not only enjoy the current cast of characters but previous ones as well. Always an entertaining and captivating story that you can’t put down.

The author strikes again with her latest page-turner, The Rebellious Rake, whisking us away to the beloved Crabbet Close for a romp among old friends and their high-spirited shenanigans. At the heart of the tale is Ram, the dashing rake with a penchant for trouble, and Flora, the headstrong damsel who isn't in distress, thank you very much. Sparks fly and wits clash from their very first encounter, ensnaring readers in their playful tug-of-war.

The duo of Ram's devilish allure and Flora's bold defiance creates a match made in literary heaven. The plot thickens with cameo appearances from the esteemed Sinclairs, Ravens, and Nightingales, stirring up the pot of drama. And let's not forget Curaidh, the scene-stealing Irish Wolfhound with more charm in his paw than most heroes have in their entire lineage.

In this author's true fashion, The Rebellious Rake delivers laughs, gasps, and swoons aplenty, securing its spot on the bookshelf of any historical romance aficionado or lover of a hearty tale brimming with friendship and yuletide cheer.

The Rebellious Rake is the latest book in the ‘Notorious Nightingales’ series featuring the story of Ramsey Hellion and Flora Thomas. It took me only a couple of minutes to read the first three or four pages before the action began and I was hooked!

After being introduced to Ramsey and his escape, out of a window and down a tree, from the bedroom of a ‘lady’ who has been enjoying his company whilst her husband is not home, Ramsey is quietly making his way back to his lodging when he is set upon by three kidnappers who are out to abduct him.

I do not want to spoil the story for others readers and will only say that what happens to him and who and why that has bed. orchestrated I would encourage you to read the book to find out!

Frustratingly my annoying memory refuses to clearly remember who all the characters are, (there are quite a few, mostly re-occurring and only a few new ones) but that has my personal problem and in no way reflects on the author, who does explain who characters are.

In this book Wendy Vella used a Scottish Gaelic name for a character which I was totally unable to read, but quite soon, within the story, she cleverly explained how to pronounce it! Thank you for that Wendy!

As hoped for, The Rebellious Rake was another, thoroughly enjoyable book and I am delighted to recommend it to all existing and new fans of Wendy Vella’s books.

Nb: As usual for my reviews, I have no wish to spoil the enjoyment of the story as it unfolds and have not gone into storyline detail. Once again was very difficult for me to put it down, and I read the whole book within 24 hours!

Another brilliant book from Wendy. Brilliant plot, great characters who come to life in the pages. I especially love the way previous characters are weaved through her books. There is also the fact that as I’m reading her humour makes me burst out laughing.

Ramsey has been a fun character to see in the earlier books and it was great getting his story. He may come off as arrogant but he has a big heart. Flora us the perfect foil for him and never lets him get away with anything. The Crabbet Close crew are all back and Ramsey can't seem to avoid all of them being pulled in to the mystery of who is after him.

His one and only

I loved Flora and Rams story. When they first met they did not get along but as Ram was sitting in the tea shop seeing Flora by herself he was seeing her beauty. Ram was wondering why she was here by herself and if her family knew. When Flora got up to leave Ram would follow her to make sure she made it home safely.
As they were walking Flora was sensing danger, when men came out of the sewer and grabbed Ram. As her was fighting the men he yelled for Flora to run. As they pull Ram into the sewer Flora follows to rescue him.
With her special talent she throws her voice and the kidnappers think the watch is after them. They then release Ram and ran.
With the help of a dog in the sewers they eventually find their way out. When they make it back to her Uncle Brams home the house was already in Chaos because they all felt something was wrong. When Ram and Flora explain what happened, his cousin Gray said he cannot go about by himself until we find who wants to hurt you.
Because of this Ram and Flora see each other in a different light. A beautifully written story with a few twists and turns and a wonderful ending.

Once again Wendy has brought out a great story set in London and includes intrigue, romance, danger and the Raven Sinclair crime solving family.

Sometimes beneath the bickering and sniping, there is more to a relationship, as Ramsey and Flora discovered. They both have baggage but when Ram's life is threatened, Flora is there to help. As their families help to deal with the threat, they both realise how much more they mean to each other and the lengths they will go to to protect especially when Ram discovers his parents have hidden something very important from him. I love Wendy's books and this one had me hooked from the first page. It was lovely to see characters from her other books and to see the Notorious Nightingales work together. Another book worth more than five stars.

Always wonderful,

Wendy Bells is one of my favorite authors and I love the families and communities she builds in her stories. This is the fourth book in the notorious Nightingales. A unique family that hat come through hardship to be truly loving and accepting as a family. This story centered around Ram who we see in previous books in the series and is a great friend of the family. The families cousin comes to stay in London after a broken engagement and the sparks fly and not always on friendly terms. There is a mystery involving g Ram that is central to the story. You will love the characters and story. Enjoy!

Wendy Vella once again proves why she is a master of historical romance with The Rebellious Rake, the fourth book in her captivating Notorious Nightingales series. From the very first page, Vella’s signature blend of action, humor, and heartfelt connection grips readers, making it impossible to put this novel down.

At the heart of the story is Ramsey Hellion, cousin to Scotland Yard’s Grayson Fletcher, whose brooding charm meets its match in Flora Thomas, a Nightingale cousin. Both characters carry scars from their pasts, marked by complicated fathers and buried family secrets. Vella expertly crafts their relationship, showcasing how they find solace and strength in each other’s company. Flora’s resilient spirit, shaped by a painful betrayal from her ex-fiancé Julian Lockwood, makes her one of the most compelling heroines in the series. Meanwhile, Ramsey’s vulnerability, laid bare by his growing admiration for Flora, adds depth to his character and keeps readers rooting for him.

Crabbet Close, with its vibrant and eccentric residents, serves as the perfect backdrop, adding humor and warmth to the tale. A standout scene involves one of the community’s lively games—complete with strong drinks and dubious challenges—that encapsulates Vella’s knack for balancing tension with joy.

Longtime fans will revel in the return of familiar faces from the Sinclairs and Ravens series, woven seamlessly into Ramsey’s quest to unravel the mystery behind a series of attacks. And, of course, Curaidh, the Irish Wolfhound with a penchant for heroics, steals every scene he’s in and will charm readers as much as any leading character.

Wendy Vella’s storytelling is unparalleled, blending intrigue, romance, and humor effortlessly. The Rebellious Rake is a testament to her ability to create unforgettable characters and page-turning plots. This novel is a must-read for any fan of historical romance, solidifying Vella’s place as a true master in the genre.

I received a free copy this book from the author, and am voluntarily leaving a review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Rebellious Rake by Wendy Vella is her newest entry into the Notorious Nightingales series although the story focuses on a Nightingale cousin and Grey’s cousin. Ram was sitting in a coffee shop when he noticed the irritating Miss Flora Thomas. Flora had come to stay at Crabbit Cove with the Nightingales after a broken engagement. She had yet to share why it had been broken. Ramsey Hellion was in London after fleeing India with his mother, upon his father’s death. The man had played fast and loose with many people and he worried that they would got revenge upon his mother or him. Ram followed Flora home as it was very late and she could be in danger, out alone. It turns out he was the one in danger as he was attacked and thrown down a manhole into the sewer. Instead of running as he had instructed her, she followed him and ended up rescuing him and adopting a dog in the furor. It started from there and escalated.

It is funny how often rakes have to be led kicking and screaming to the realization that they were in love for the first time, and wanted to make it permanent. It is especially entertaining when the lady in question feels the same way. That was Ram, although those around him were aware far before he was. It took a while before Ramsey could figure out who was after him and why, but in the end the issue was resolved. Flora adjusted in secret. Along the way there was Crabbit Cove as well as the Nightingales, who provided plenty of humor. The Nightingales as well as Flora and her brother, Charles, were all clairvoyant, although their talents manifested in various ways. This gift was helpful less often that annoying, but when helpful couldn’t be beat. Both lovable characters, Vella has expanded the Nightingale universe and creating a topnotch story to boot. Full of laughter and tears, as well as some bruising, and a gunshot or two, this is an entertaining addition to the already topnotch series.

I was invited to read The Rebellious Rake by the author. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #WendyVella #TheRebelliousRake

The Rebellious Rake is the fourth book in Wendy Vella’s Notorious Nightingale’s series. Following the Nightingale siblings as they rebuild their lives after a scandal as well as coping with their paranormal abilities, book four actually focuses on Ramsay Hellion and Miss Flora Thomas – both of whom are cousins to the nightingales – Ramsay by marriage and Flora by blood. Flora also has some paranormal abilities.
Ramsay has been conveyed in all the books as the fairly easy-going, light hearted cousin of Gray – the hero in book one now married to Ellen Nightingale. Here we get to see that his backstory was far from idyllic. Flora has come to stay with the Nightingale’s after the end of her engagement. Flora and Ramsay have always enjoyed an antagonistic relationship with Ramsay intrigued by Flora and Flora disapproving of Ramsay’s lifestyle.
The book starts off with an attempt on Ramsay’s life which Flora is able to foil thanks to her abilities and continues the fast pace throughout as Ramsay tries to figure out who wants him dead with the Nightingales and Flora helping him. As they investigate, Ramsay and Flora come closer together and find that they are more suited than they thought.
As ever, it is joyful to enter the world Wendy Vella has created. Ramsay and Flora are well matched and very likeable. I love the closeness of the family and it’s lovely when past characters from Wendy’s previous series pop in and blend in seamlessly with the story. I received an ARC of this book in return for my honest opinion. I'd definitely recommend reading this and am looking forward to Wendy’s next offering.

What terrific addition to this series. I absolutely love this series and didn't think anything could top this author's Raven/Sinclair series but it's close.

If you're not familiar with Wendy Vella/Lani Blake I urge you to read her stories. They are filled with humor, some paranormal, intense storylines and many twists.

I specifically enjoyed the characters from other series and this one. You will not be lost in reading this because it is a standalone. But you will be so engage in this story you will want to seek out more by this talented author.

I loved how the h rescued the H in a sewer - funny moments especially when the dog comes along. Both the MC's have secrets, that they are both discovering. Finding out about them made for a bumpy and interesting road to HEA.

The H starts out the story cheating with a married woman, but it only happens in the story once and before he has feelings for the h. There is cheating by another character whose is dead, but no cheating when our MC come together. Lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 3+ out of 5, filled with passion.

No cliffhanger, story filled with suspense, twits, intrigue, unknown secrets, amazing main and secondary characters, HEA and some steam.

I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide to purchase.

I received ARC and all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)

I love Wendy’s Vella series about the notorious Nightingale family. In this one we meet Ramsey Hellion who is Grayson Fletcher of Scotland Yard’s cousin. Grayson is married to Ellen Nightingale. Their story is told in The Disgraced Debutante. When Ramsey is attacked and dragged in to the sewers of London, Flora Thomas, a Nightingale cousin, along with Curaidh, a large, shaggy dog, manage to rescue him. Since the dog led them out of the sewer tunnels, Flora convinces Ramsey he must adopt Curaidh.
Flora “dislikes men born with tolerable looks who believe they should be adored because they exist.” Ramsey eagerly accepts that challenge. As each has a distrust of relationships, they battle against their attraction to each other. Along the way the Sinclair family from the Raven and Sinclair series drop in to help Ramsey solve the mystery of why he is being attacked. As usual in this series part of the fun is the quirky characters who live in Crabbett Close and we get to enjoy one of their hilarious neighborhood games with teams racing to be first to the finish line while they partake of the strong drink and unpleasant items to eat at each station of the race.

Ramsey Hellion is the perfect example of just because you can does NOT mean you should!
Bedding married women and almost not quite getting caught to literally fleeing for his life!? The only good thing is he runs right into destiny with Miss Flora Thomas cousin to the Nightingales! She is at a tea shop alone!
He follows to keep her safe and almost gets abducted! They are lost for a time in a very dark and scary place that invites confidences and exchange of secrets!
This is definitely one of the strangest courtships on record!
Flora still has secrets several to do with her late father and Ramsey aka Ram also has secrets about his family! These two argue more than anything they agree and when danger again finds Ram they do find a way to show they care!
But when things don’t make sense as to why Ram is a target and a long lost family shows up to assist there are more questions than answers!?
Flora and Ramsey realize they can have no future until these would be kidnappers are stopped for good!
But they go to far and they kidnap the woman who has come to mean everything to Ram!
I love how the Raven family interact, assist and celebrate! Bravo! Well done!

Looking for your next enemies to lovers romance? Look no further! In Wendy Vella's fourth installment of The Notorious Nightingales series, Nightingale friend and relation Ram finally meets his match in the prickly Nightingale cousin, Flora. Using her Nightingale powers, Flora saves Ram from a frightening kidnapping and Flora's feelings begin to soften toward Ram. While Ram and Flora's mutual animosity burns into something much more friendly, both are set on solving the mystery of Ram's kidnapping. Faced with acknowledging demons from his past, Ram and Flora navigate his sticky situation with the help of beloved characters from the Sinclair and Raven series.

The witty banter between Ram and Flora throughout the book is oh so sweet and leaves you wanting more of their love story. All in all, this book does a great job introducing new characters into Wendy's intricate regency world while leaving you excited for the next installment in her series.

The Rebellious Rake review
Wow, just wow. I had to read this one straight through so it’s a good thing I started early in the day!
Another in the Notorious Nightingales series, Ramsey (Gray’s cousin) and Flora (a Nightingale cousin) do not like each other. He thinks she’s caustic, and she’s thinks he’s full of himself. So, of course, they fall for each other after finding out they have a lot more in common than they think. Also, true to Wendy Vella’s form, there is comedy and mystery afoot. The former is not just Ramsey and Flora’s bantering but also the residents of Crabbett Close and their “games”. The mystery is why is someone attacking Ramsey and possibly wanting to kill him.
My only “criticism” is the story is never long enough. I can’t get enough of Ms. Vella’s storytelling, her characters, and her wit.

I love this series! Ramsey is one of my favorite characters, and he has met his match with Flora! Both main characters have secrets, but somehow they both confide in each other. When trouble comes knocking at their door, they have the Nightingales ready to help them as well as the other Crabbet Close residents. Loved the appearance of some of the Sinclair & Raven characters. They are always looking for fun and willing to help out during a crisis. Liked how neither had plans to get involved in a serious relationship, but they never saw each other coming! A reformed rake and a self proclaimed spinster were an unlikely match, but anything is possible in a Wendy Vella book! Had elements of suspense with kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, and blackmail, rescue, reunited family and a HEA!

I’ve been waiting for Ramsey Hellion’s story since he was introduced in earlier Notorious Nightingale adventures and The Rebllious Rake is his story. Action starts right at the beginning and never lets the reader go. The interaction between Ramsey and our heroine, Flora Thomas, is loud and snippy as well as gentle, romantic, and tender. What a combination these two make! The mystery surrounding Ram is difficult to solve as a mere reader, but Wendy carries us thoughtfully to the end where all is explained and new connections may be beginning. Overall a great read. Thumbs up.
