When Quincy Battles is assigned to end a generational feud in exchange for her daughter’s safety, she’s prepared to mourn the loss of a classmate. However, her focus slips when a blue Mustang pulls through Coven and brings a glittery, pink-loving, football player into her world of misery.
Quinntessa Dawson is a distraction. A freckled-face, beautiful distraction. She’s ignorantly unaware of the danger that haunts these woods; unaware of how close to the devil she truly stood.
It might be harder to protect her family than Quincy originally thought. With a light finally entering her dark, underground hellscape, there’s only a matter of time before Quinntessa learns the truth behind Quincy and her sins. If Quincy didn’t strike first, she’d suffocate at the hands of these infectious sensations, the daughter of her father’s nemesis, and Coven’s newest sparkly football player, has tormented her with.
“I’m Eleanor Battles, and I’m going to kill Agent Dawson’s daughter.”
Aces and Arrows is the second book in The Coven Chronicles series.
Ok so I am not a big fan of reading the same story through another characters POV and that is what this book is… I did enjoy learning some of the new information but for the most part I wasn’t overly excited. I would have loved more new story and less rehashing of things I had already learned through Quintessa’s POV, but that’s my personal preference and I know that plenty of others do enjoy a multiple POV series.
I liked Quincy through Quintessa’s POV, a kind of mysterious, hot player- but I just don’t really vibe with the whole ‘lesbians sleep with their entire friend group’ stereotype in real life and seeing Quincy do that was also not quite it for me… I’m all for being a player, but does everyone need to be played? Idk. I think she’s got so much good going on, that part was a bit of a let down for me. I do like how hard she crushes on Quintessa and how much she loves Estelle, it’s obvious that she’s got a lot of love in her but her family has just fucked her up too much.
The Russian mob thing is interesting although I thought it was more realistic/ believable from Quintessa’s POV. However, it did bring tension to the book and obviously it was the main new thing we learned about so without it there would definitely be something lacking.
Overall it was quite enjoyable and if you like reading a story from another characters POV then I think this is a solid recommendation. Start with the Hearts and Stars though, that’s a must.
Thank you Phoenix Katherine for providing an arc in exchange of an honest review!

**Book Summary** Careful, babygirl. This devil has a pretty face. When Quincy Battles is assigned to end a generational feud in exchange for her daughter’s safety, she’s prepared to mourn the loss of a classmate. “Aces and Arrows” by Phoenix Kathryn was a captivating read. A perfect follow up to book one, “Hearts and Stars.” I think their world building and character development was the perfect blend. It does end on a slight cliffhanger.
This book had me on the edge of my seat. There’s so many twists and turns. I loved all the emotions felt. Angst, questioning self, love, fear, and inner turmoil. All of which truly help you to love the characters, hate the ones that are meant to be hated, and create an immersive experience.
Overall, this was a phenomenal read. Definitely worth reading the series! The tropes were troping and it was a crazy ride. Phoenix Kathryn is a very gifted author. I’m truly excited to see where their journey takes them.
Thank you to them for the opportunity to get an ARC copy.
Seven months after reading Hearts and Stars, the first book of The Coven Chronicles, I finally met Quinn and Quincy again. In all honesty, I vaguely remember what happened in the first book (I fear I’ll never beat the Dory allegations), but as I read through Aces and Arrows, memory came back to me, and let me tell you… it left me as excited and enthralled as before. I couldn’t put it down either.
You have to be tough to read this book, the whole series in fact. I lost count of how many times I had to fight off tears and I’m not ashamed to say that I lost the battle at a certain point because… How long can you hold on when you keep getting kicked in the guts so many times?
I absolutely enjoyed getting some insight into Quincy’s life, her mindset, her struggles with her family, her feelings for Quinn, and the constant conflict raging within herself. In my review of Heats and Stars, I said I was waiting to read Quincy’s side of the story before expressing what I thought of her. Well. She is messed up. For the lack of better words, she is fucked in the head, but she has a heart and a willingness to be and do better that I can only appreciate.
I also previously said that I had strong words for Quinn’s father (this stands even more so after reading the second book), but Quincy’s father can join the club too. Both are bad. Both deserve to be six feet under, thank you very much.
The hold The Coven Chronicles series has on me is unbelievable. Its grip is so strong I need the rest of it like right now, but I will be patient as good things come to those who wait.
Oh, wow, what a intense book! I loved it! I admire how well-written this story is. It made me go through all range of emotions during reading it! Suspense through the whole book. I was sad, excited, angry, happy.. I cried and laughed so many times. The chemistry between Quincy and Quinntessa was so palpable. Their pull towards each yother so visible. I wish there were more from their POV. Their anxiety, trauma, experiences were very well described. I felt sucked in this book so fast.
And that special song Quincy wrote… it is just beautiful! Made me cry so many times. Amazing thing was to listen to it on Spotify.
I wasn't a fan of reading the exact same story again, the first book finished on a cliff hanger, I found myself skipping the majority of this book, only reading dialog, until I reached the point the other book left us at and continued on reading as normal from there (about 85% of the way through it)
It was an interesting book! Even my heart rate accelerated when I was reading some scenes! The suspense is very well managed! I wish it had explored some topics in more depth, but it was a very good book anyway!
An intense, gripping, violent read as we learn more about Quincy 's life and family as she tries to protect Quintessa from being killed. A beautiful, captivating story full of emotion, trauma and yearning. Can't wait to read the next book.
