A mysterious pull toward Nova Scotia lures a reluctant school teacher to embark on a Canadian cruise and sail into deception, tragedy, and love.
Her mother's death and her father's indifference led Olivia Carr to shelter herself behind walls of isolation. When the school term ends, she resigns herself to weeks of lonely boredom, until her estranged father asks her to spend the summer on his estate near Boston. Her hope that their relationship could be healed is soon crushed, and Olivia flees her father's house and reluctantly joins fellow teachers on a maritime Canada cruise. The voyage stirs up latent memories. What mystery draws her to the lighthouse at Pawleys Cove, Nova Scotia? Fellow teacher Clark Rafferty--because of his Christian faith--struggles against his attraction to Olivia. When she unexpectedly joins the cruise and becomes involved in a shipboard romance with a man Clark doesn't trust, his resolve to avoid her must yield to his need to protect her. Meanwhile, in the shadow of the Pawleys Cove lighthouse, an old man, still haunted by tragedy, prays for the little girl he remembers.

This was a fun book! I happened to see this recommended by a Christian book reviews group on fb when it was free on kindle and also was free on audible! So I snatched it up! I wouldn’t necessarily say that you should go out and buy it but it was nice to have gotten it for free and I enjoyed it!
The characters are so real I miss them, especially the spunky, delightful Grandma. Now I want to be just like her.
The plot is intriguing, and kept me reading well past my bedtime.
And as a psychotherapist, I loved the vital message that our past pain can be the gateway to healing and freedom. God transforms all our trials and challenges and uses them for good.
The publisher gave me an advance reader copy with no strings attached. I can think of several friends who will enjoy this book, and several clients who will be greatly encouraged by its message.
I highly recommend this intriguing mystery. It's what I call a people story, with a 20+ year old mystery tied to Olivia. It's takes some doing to untangle it all, as well as personal growth for many.
The end is good but I cannot say how without giving too much away. I will admit the extra twist in the last few sentences is absolutely perfect!
The faith in God expressed here is gentle, not preachy, simply showing how it impacts and helps certain people in this book. I found it comforting, a reminder of help I have received in the past and need in the present.
I enjoyed the story's layers, the depth that added, as we see the challenges several of these people have, not just Olivia. As in real life, their lives being intertwined means their challenges are intertwined. I love that the book brought that out, didn't gloss over that or simplify the story. This is a book I will reread.
I really loved this romantic mystery. I loved Olivia and Clark. I enjoyed seeing Olivia grow as a person as she learns some truths about herself. I loved how Clark takes steps forward in his life also. I received a copy of the book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
All of us have an inner child who speaks to our subconscious. Sometimes that inner child allows us to be carefree and frivolous as happy memories flood in. However, for Olivia, those memories were suppressed until her recent cruise that included a port call in Halifax … the place where trauma lurked in the recesses of her memory. As she seeks to explore the flashes of harsh memory, Olivia sets out to unravel the snarls of memory. Were these the reasons, she resisted her growing attraction to her coworker, Clark?
I was given a copy for my honest review. And honestly, I enjoyed the read. The author’s voice gives authenticity to the complexity of emotions and to the various settings where the story unfolds. She makes me want to go on a cruise! I fell in love with Luellen, Olivia’s grandmother. She’s a feisty elderly!
The story overall gives the feeling of a Hallmark movie. I recommend The Girl in Her.
The Girl in Her is an evocative read that masterfully intertwines themes of love, loss, and rediscovery. From the opening scene where the main character grapples with feelings of emptiness as a teacher facing summer solitude, I was drawn to her internal struggles and poignant memories. The authors vivid descriptions bring the New England settings to life, enhancing the narrative’s emotional weight and atmosphere. I also loved the subtle yet profound integration of faith and hope throughout the book. The way the author explored themes like trust, forgiveness, and redemption added depth without overwhelming the story. Overall, I enjoyed how The Girl in Her balanced heartache with hope and left me reflecting on my own life and relationships. It’s a story that lingers in the mind and heart, and I’m grateful for the time I spent within its pages.
What a delightful book to read! It had mystery and it had romance. There were real-life experiences that are relatable for most people. From the first chapter to the final one, you will be pulled into Olivia's story and will be rooting for her.
I highly recommend this book for romance and mystery readers alike. Great story!
Disclaimer: I received a digital copy from the author with no expectation in return. The thoughts above are shared voluntarily and are my honest opinion.
The Girl in Her is a heartwarming story of Olivia, a young teacher with a mysterious past who reluctantly agrees to take a cruise with her friends—an interesting cast of characters. That decision takes her on a journey of discovering answers to questions about her family. You’ll want to keep reading as you join Olivia in her quest to learn who she truly is.
I received an advanced copy of this book but I was under no obligation to review the book.
I couldn't put this book down.. I felt like I was right there the whole time. Olivia and Clark were so real but Luellen stole my heart as did Clark's dog. Loved the Eastern Canada setting and would love to go to the cove! I would love to find a church like the ones in the book. The bible references were beautiful. Anyone who likes a good read will enjoy this novel.
Loved the mystery and the intrigue of this book. Very captivating. Did not want to put down. It really held my interest. It had some sad parts but very happy as well. Luellen was a handful, but could be very funny too. Wish there was a part 2 book to keep the story going. Very well written Ms. Vosburgh. I think this was your first book I read.
This book shows the journey of someone in need of love to realizing that love has been waiting for her. With a bit of mystery, a little romance, as well as some heartbreak this book has tons of heart. I loved Olivia's fiesty granmother and her pechant for adventure.
A very interesting and sweet story. I loved Luellen, a feisty.woman who refused to act her age, but rather fill her remaining days with fun and experiences. I liked how relationships changed, especially when they faced their problems with understanding.
I have not read any of this author's books before, but I really enjoyed it. I liked the unpredictable parts of the book as well as the Christian elements.
