Set in 1913 this enjoyable and engaging historical mystery kept me hooked throughout. Following a scandal sisters Jean and Merle head to Hollywood California, where Jean wants to become a stunt woman. Merle supports her sister in her dream but worries that her life choices could affect both of their careers. Meanwhile, Jean is missing policeman Patrick Flannigan. When excitement follows the sisters, they are reunited with Patrick. As events unfold, including sabotage and murder secrets are uncovered. I loved the characters in this story, especially the likeable and relatable sisters. The setting came vividly to life through the descriptive narrative, and the added historical details transported me back in time. I really felt immersed in the Hollywood of the time period, bustling with people and the excitement of movies being made. A captivating read.

What a page turning read! I have enjoyed this author's works and this one might be my most favorite read yet!

Merle and her sister Jean find themselves running to Hollywood in 1913. There they begin to look for jobs but Merle is looking for something, or someone, else.

Characters from previous books will pop in and make you chuckle while there is murder, romance, blackmail, sabotage, and more happening in the background.

This is another great book by this author!! Merle and Jean are sisters who head to California after some trouble finds Merle. They both find jobs in Hollywood and begin to build new lives there. Stunt women keep getting hurt and a director meets his end. Are these circumstances related or just coincidence? This book kept me turning pages.

From the start I was interested and struggled putting this book down. Jean and Merle have a close sisterly bond and yet know they are very different. They always have each other’s backs but often act completely different about most situations. Patrick and Lottie have a great sibling bond and try not overstepping into each other’s lives too much. When Patrick and Jean show interest in one another, it flows effortlessly and is obvious they are attracted to one another. But Merle’s extracurricular life and party scene throw a wrench in everything.
Merle and Jean leaving for California is something they always talked about but didn’t see it happening so soon. Once in California, under new names, they are getting to try things out differently. Merle isn’t such a flirt and Jean gets to see how movies are made. They couldn’t have imagined these changes.
They are shown kindness by so many strangers on their travels and given a hand when they need it. Though they always have each other’s interests at heart, they blossom into their own individual personalities more in California than ever before.
I would absolutely read more books with these characters in them.

Merle Cooper has gotten herself into some trouble and needs to leave New York. She talks her sister, Jean, into leaving with her. Jean has no idea what is going on but will do anything to help her sister. They move to California hoping to get as far away from their past as they can. They decide to pursue their dreams of being stars.
Back in New York, Officer Patrick Flannigan has been assigned a case that looks like murder-suicide, but there are many questions. He is also wondering where Jean Cooper disappeared. He had hoped to develop a relationship with her. Little did he know their paths would eventually cross again.
This story takes place in the early 1900s and it has murder, sabotage, blackmail, romance and so much more. There was a lot of action packed into this story. I enjoyed reading about some of the different movie techniques in this time. This story kept you on the edge of your seat with its action and characters.

This book is fantastic. It is set in the early 1910s, and follows the story of two young sisters who are on the run!

In this book we meet Jean and Merle. Jean is the quiet, shy, sweet sister who is just starting a relationship with a police detective. Merle is the flighty, flashy, always looking for a party girl who wants a bigger life than working at a small theater. They are like night and day, but they will do absolutely anything for one another. When Merle finds herself in trouble, she speeds home, wakes her sister, and together they embark on a journey to pursue their dreams.

What will happen to them? Will they make it across the country? Will the police catch up to them? What REALLY happened in the bedroom of that rich couple? Will they manage to make it on the big screen?

I’ve read other Mullins books and decided to give this new one a try. This story focuses on sisters, Jean and Merle Cooper. While living in New York City, Jean works at the movie theater and aspires to be a stunt movie. Her sister on the other hand, Merle is more enticed with the glitz and glamour of the upper class and is getting to know different kinds of people. When trouble comes their way, they make a getaway cross country and land themselves on the West Coast. As they look for jobs in Hollywood, a murder takes place at the movie studio and many are left baffled. This story takes you into twists and turns and determines the outcome of Jean and Merle’s lives. This read was very entertaining and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Lights, Camera, Murder!!! is a good suspense with a romantic undertone. I have read other books by this author and have enjoyed them all. The main characters, sisters Merle and Jean Cooper, head to Hollywood. They didn't get there just because they wanted to, oh no. They were not only involved in a scandal but a police chase as well. Jean dreams of being a stunt woman and this could be the start of a blooming career, however the studio they work for is plagued by one mishap after another. It eventually leads to someone being murdered and it baffles everyone on the set. Who did it and why? This is definitely a page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

This was a really good book. Merle and Jean worked in a movie theater and after the movie was over and the theater cleared out. Merle would leave to go to a party and Jean would act out the movie and do the stunts. She always wanted to be a stunt person in the movies and thought this was the closest she would ever get.

Something happened at the party that Merle came home and started packing. They took off and headed to Hollywood. They needed a new start and decided this was the place to try and get it.

Check out the book I think you will enjoy it.

Kimberly Mullins delivers a thrilling and nostalgic journey into the golden age of Hollywood with Lights, Camera, Murder. Set in 1913, the story captures the allure and grit of early Hollywood through the eyes of sisters Jean and Merle Cooper. Their tale is one of ambition, danger, and reinvention, where dreams of stardom clash with the shadows of scandal and murder.

Forced to flee their hometown under the cloud of a scandal, Jean and Merle set out for California, hoping for fresh starts and new opportunities. Mullins vividly brings to life the bustling streets and vibrant energy of early Hollywood, painting a picture of an industry in its infancy, filled with dreamers, schemers, and hidden dangers.

Jean’s aspiration to become a stuntwoman is a refreshing and daring ambition for the time, and her determination makes her a standout protagonist. Her sister Merle provides a grounded counterbalance, though her choices sometimes complicate their journey. Their bond is a core strength of the novel, showcasing the power of sisterhood amidst the challenges they face.

The introduction of Patrick Flannigan, the policeman left behind, adds an element of romance and intrigue. His reappearance in their lives creates tension, as old feelings resurface and his involvement in the sisters’ new reality grows deeper.

The stakes heighten as sabotage and murder enter the picture, intertwining with Jean and Merle’s personal struggles and professional aspirations. The mystery is well-paced, with twists that keep readers guessing until the end. Mullins deftly balances the excitement of a murder investigation with the glamour and chaos of early filmmaking, creating a dynamic and engaging narrative.

Lights, Camera, Murder is not just a historical mystery but also a celebration of resilience and ambition. Kimberly Mullins captures the spirit of a transformative era in American entertainment while weaving a compelling tale of suspense and heart. Fans of historical fiction, mystery, and strong female protagonists will find much to love in this captivating story. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy a mix of Hollywood nostalgia and edge-of-your-seat thrills.

I really enjoyed this historical murder mystery. This author has definitely become a favourite of mine as her stories are always captivating and I find myself getting caught up in them that I can't put them down. One thing that really brings this authors work to life for me is her attention to historical detail. This story is set in 1913 and you really feel transported back to that time period.

In this story we meet Jean and Merle Cooper. Both sisters who work at the local theatre. Merle is a bit of a wild one whereas Jean is more quiet. Jean does have one dream and that is to become a stunt woman. But she has settled into life playing piano at the theatre and she is looking forward to the prospect of a relationship with a policeman called Patrick. However all that changes when Merle comes home and tells her they have to leave now.
After finding out what went down at the parties Merle has attended and that she has now witnessed the death of two people Jean doesn't hesitate to leave with her sister even though that means leaving Patrick behind.
Fast forward and the sisters reach California where Jean can finally pursue her dream but what happens when the past catches up to them and a handsome policeman makes a return to Jeans life. Can she have the romance and her dream or will her sisters actions cause her to lose everything.
This was a really good murder mystery filled with suspense, romance, illicit affairs, surprises and danger that makes this a book I couldn't put down.

Murder in the silent film era!

A sister in the wrong place at the wrong time drags her sibling across the country to join the motion picture business! Did Lottie squash the budding romance of her sister and her police detective paramour? Will they survive in the crazy new Hollywood industry? Dangerous stunts, illicit affairs, unplanned pregnancies, sabotage and even murder plague the sisters in this fun romp through the rough and tumble early years of the motion picture industry.

Author Mullins branches out from her Young Adult Notebook Mystery Series with a new set of related characters, and her work shows she has mastered the art of the mystery, juggling clues, suspects and adventurous plots until a last-minute, “all’s well” resolution. She skillfully weaves history into the narrative in a fast, fun read. While some of the topics are definitely “adult,” there are no graphic scenes. The audacious young girls’ bold decisions and driven will to succeed make for a wonderful story. And the Jean and Patrick romance replants the intrepid midwestern detective in the City of Angels, which could lead to more adventures and mysteries in California. This is a great historical mystery and highly recommended.

Lights-Camera-Murder by Kimberly Mullins is set in New York and Hollywood in the early 1900s. The Book opens with sisters Merle and Jean in the movie theater where they work. Jean plays piano during the movies but dreams of being in the movies as a stunt woman. Merle lives a more glamorous life of parties and rubbing elbows with the upper class of New York…until she runs into trouble. The two find themselves on the run. As they head across the country, Jean thinks about the man she left behind while Merla worries about the trouble she is in. The story is about the two sisters who move across the country to Hollywood, restarting their new lives and chasing their dreams. while finding love. I really enjoyed the devotion the sisters have to each other. Both would do anything to protect the other and make the other’s dreams come true. I also really enjoyed that the events of the book are loosely based on real people and events of 1913. The book is well written and I highly recommend it.

Lights, Camera, Murder is an historical cozy mystery set in early 1913 Hollywood during the silent film era. It is full of action, mystery, intrigue, suspense, secrets, sabotage, romance, crime and adventure. The story centers on two sisters, Jean and Merle, who travel across the country in the hopes of a fresh new start. Jean wishes that she hadn't left her handsome new friend Patrick behind because they had a connection. The two sisters get jobs at a movie studio in Hollywood that seems to be plagued by accidents and ultimately murder. Jean does get reunited with Patrick, but their budding romance might not stand a chance when secrets are revealed. The characters are engaging and the relationship between Jean and Merle is interesting to say the least and the antics that they got up to were amusing. The story was fast-paced and entertaining throughout as it took some twists and turns that compelled me to read to the end to find out who the villain was.

“Lights, Camera, Murder!” by Kimberly Mullins is a compelling mystery/romance set in 1913. This is a sequel of sorts to “Divided Lives,” and focuses on Patrick Flanagan along with two new characters: sisters Jean & Merle. Patrick, a policeman, meets Jean, who plays piano for a movie theater and dreams of becoming a movie stunt woman, and the pair begin a tentative romance. But Jean’s flashy sister, Merle, gets herself into a dangerous situation, and induces Jean to leave town with her. The pair head to Hollywood, where the sisters get jobs at a movie studio that is plagued by accidents and eventually…murder. This book provides a fascinating look at the making of movies in the early 20th century. and provides a bit of romance as Patrick reunites with Jean in Hollywood. This is a wonderful historical mystery/romance that will keep readers glued to the pages from start to finish!

Lights, Camera, Murder!!! by Kimberly Mullins might be a bit of a spin-off from her ‘Divided Lives’ novel- but you needn’t worry as it can be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing anything important. I loved the connection to Divided Lives (as well as the Notebook Mysteries) as it definitely added interest to the whole story.
This is an intriguing historical mystery with romance, murder, secrets, sabotage, action, agendas, adventure, danger, dramatic developments, crime & investigation, a wonderful snapshot of the times/era, 1913 Hollywood movie set, and more.
Two sisters drawn into mystery and intrigue when murder comes calling. What happens makes for a fun read.
Looking forward to whatever Ms. Mullins does next.
Happy Reading!

Kimberly Mullins is a first time author for me so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading Lights, Camera, Murder!!! But, I was quickly sucked into this historical mystery by the vivid world-building and amazing characters of Mullins. The story is packed with drama, twists and turns, suspense, with a good blend of romance mixed in. I felt transported to 1913 New York and Hollywood, enjoyed the excitement of the Cooper sisters' newfound stardom in Hollywood, and felt the fear when a murder takes place at their movie studio. The characters are realistic, likeable, and believable. The love between sisters, Jean and Merle, is so warm and wholesome. And the romantic love each of the girls finds is so pure, if a bit quick. The suspense kept me on my toes till the very end. I very much hope there is more stories coming about Merle and Jean and their friends and family!

Jean and Merle are sisters living in New York in 1913. Jean is on the cusp of starting a new relationship with policeman Patrick when the two go on the run because of a scandal involving Merle. The two flee to California to start a new life, yet Jean can’t help but think about Patrick.

Jean might finally realize her dream of being a stuntwoman. Merle continues to make decisions that threaten to upend their lives. Patrick also appears in California, and there is plenty of suspense as a mystery evolves where Jean now works, and the scandal from New York continues to complicate their new lives.

Kimberly Mullins is a new author to me, and I found her writing intriguing. I enjoyed her historical note at the end of the book that inspired the book. She blended mystery, suspense, and romance to give readers a solid read!

What a delightful murder mystery. Set back in the past, this is an entertaining tale that lets you solve the mystery of who killed the scandalous rich people. I don't think I've enjoyed a series so well rounded. This series bring us an appearance by Lottie and her girlfriend but the main character is Peter. I found the story entertaining to follow. It had a good flow. I felt the mystery stayed a mystery until towards the end, as it should. Those sisters were a hoot, stealing cars with no cranks. You really should read this. I mustn't tell anymore secrets. There are characters in here that are a hoot and are very easy to relate to. It's funny that issues from back then can be so relatable no. This is a wonderful cozy mystery and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Lights, Camera, Murder!!! follows sisters Jean and Merle after Merle witnesses a horrific crime. Panicked Merle grabs Jean and hustles them off to California. While there Merle becomes a star in the burgeoning movie business while Jean fulfills her dream of becoming a stunt woman in the movies.
Following the sisters, for professional and personal reasons is police detective Patrick.
When he meets up with the sisters they find murder and sabotage!
All in all this is another excellent novel by author Kimberly Mullins.
This book is a pseudo-sequel to her earlier novel, Divided Lives, in that Patrick and his sister, Lottie appear in both books. The pair also appear in the author's other series, The Notebook Mysteries.

I have previously read a couple books by this author and loved them, so I was excited when I came across this one. This is a magnificent historical novel that blends adventure, romance, and suspense in the vibrant setting of early Hollywood. The author has such an incredible talent for painting the picture with their vivid imagery to really make you feel the experience of early 1900s. The two sisters, Jean and Merle, have a wonderful connection that is apparent throughout the story. They do get pulled into a web of intrigue and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat! There were plenty of twists and turns that I never saw coming. If you’re looking for a thrilling mystery that will keep you guessing, you don’t want to miss out on this book!

This book was a little more lights and camera than it was murder, but it was really enjoyable.
I don't think I've ever read a book from this time frame before, and I really enjoyed the glimpse behind the camera of the old school Hollywood movies.
The time lines got a little fuzzy to keep track of, but if you just keep with it, it all evens itself out in the end.
It's got plenty of drama, it's got suspense, some mystery, and some murder.
It's not a heavy read, it's entertaining and kept me wondering who the "bad guy" was.
I look forward to reading more by this author, and would totally recommend this one to others.
