I recognize some of the names and contemporary art in this graphic novel nod to the explosion of contemporary art, but I think it felt more like a series of disconnected (yet connected through contemporary art) stories rather than a larger picture of HOW contemporary art blew up around the world. I would have like to have a more explicit narrative that pulled everything together. There were threads that were woven through but it wasn't tight enough to be solid storytelling.

It's provocative as were the artists themselves. It doesn't hide behind what (and that's always the question about WHAT constitutes art, right?) it could be, but tells the stories of who brought it to life including tragic ends and detours. I'd be interested in having an art person read it and tell me their thoughts.

With thanks to the Tandem Collective for sending me a copy of this book.

This was a fascinating graphic novel account of the story of modern art from Duchamps to current day. I realise how limited my own knowledge is, and this accessible book helped to fill in a lot of gaps.
The art is bright and befitting a book about modern art, and the text was straightforward and thought-provoking. I particularly liked that there was a lot of emphasis on women in art, and how difficult it was for them to make it onto the scene in the twentieth century.
Would definitely recommend this as an introduction to modern art.

This is the first graphic novel that I have ever read. I really enjoyed learning how contemporary art has grown over the years and I loved the illustrations. I highly recommend it and I will definitely read more graphic novels in the future.
💝 Thank you to Tandem Collective, the author, illustrator and publisher for my copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
