A brilliant book about cinematic film from the very beginnings right up to the present. Each double page spread covers two years of film history, showcasing some of the more remarkable films from those years from all around the world. It is very refreshing to see that the author doesn't confine himself to the USA and the UK but covers a large variety of film producing countries. There is a timeline at the bottom of each page on which the films are located, along with some notable events from the same period. Of course, there are loads of photos accompanying the text. There are six chapters with an introductory essay at the beginning of each chapter, explaining what was going on in the world and how this influenced the films produced. Being written in chronological order, this gives a real insight into how the film industry developed over the years.
