Colin "Mack" McCullough was in the wrong place at the wrong time and at the age fourteen was sent to prison. Now, eight years later, out of prison, he is offered a shot at by escorting Myra Aldridge safely to Denver, a high-stakes job that could help him rebuild his life. But the question lingers—was he hired because of his past, or despite it? Either way, the danger was bound to follow.
It wasn’t that Myra Aldridge hated traveling—it was that her father made all the decisions without asking her. At eighteen she felt old enough to make her own choices, and the last thing she needed was some hired escort watching her every move and telling her what to do.
Can a simple gifted quilt bridge the divide between them?
Angela Raines is the pen name for Doris McCraw. Doris is an author, historian, performer, speaker and poet. She moved from the historically rich region of West Central Illinois to the equally history rich Colorado. Many of her works focus on the history that has surrounded her all her life. Her stories are action, adventure and romance as the characters work their way through the challenges to their Happy Ever After, even if implied. An avid reader Doris also loves to spend time in history archives, either online, in history centers, or local libraries, looking for small, unknown pieces of history. Usually these found gems are in her books, short stories, blogs and non-fiction papers written for publications. She also has a continuing project of documenting the women doctors who lived, studied and worked in Colorado prior to 1900.
Doris writes in both the Medieval and Western Romance. She considers they both fall under Historicals although she loves the Western genre. All eras have extraordinary histories that just beg to be told. Sometimes Doris thinks the 'muse' may be asking too much, but then smiles and digs right in. The results? Stay tuned after reading the stories she currently has available.
You can also find her non-fiction on Amazon in the Pikes Peak Library District's books: Disasters of the Pikes Peak Region (Regional History Series), Film and Photography on the Front Range (Regional History Series)

The Christmas Quilt Bride books are clean, sweet historical romances. Each book in the series is a stand-alone book by various authors.
The premise for the story was interesting—the execution of the tale was severely lacking. I question why an author would not use an editor or have another person or two beta read and catch the plethora of errors within the entire story. When you can’t keep the spelling of the main female character the same—even on the same line of sentences is negligent. Myra Aldridge is sometimes Mira—at one time Collin ‘Mack’ McCullough is McCullogh and even McDonald—the man who rescues Mack is Mr. Taylor—but is also listed as Mr. Weaver. The number of words that have a comma inside the word is annoying, and then there are the words that have no space between them—mashed together. Then there are questions within actions that take place and timelines that seem to blur. There is a Christmas gala, then Christmas, next planning for New Year —and then we are talking about a Christmas wedding—so who knows!
The story is about Edwin Aldridge wanting to keep his daughter, Myra, safe and plans to send her to Denver, Colorado to stay with his sister, Abigail Howard. He is concerned about protecting her during business dealings, that someone might use her as leverage. Myra is headstrong, petulant, and thinks she is grown up enough to make her own decisions, but she is only seventeen. Mr. Aldridge needs her to be escorted and hires Collin ‘Mack’ McCullough to guard her with his life. He knows enough about Mack’s past to believe he will be able to do the job. The train trip is full of trials, attempts, and mishaps. In the final part of the trip, Mack goes missing and due to the weather, they can’t go searching for him. Has he died in the blizzard-like conditions? Why is Mack now being targeted?
The story is mystery, suspense, life-and-death danger, and surprises. With the good, the bad, and the evil, this story had great potential but definitely was derailed by inconsistencies and nonexistent editing.
I am posting my first Goodreads review after reading Mack: Christmas Quilt Bride Book. Admittedly, I am not familiar with the stories by Angela Raines. I was stunned, as a writer myself, that I really could not understand the book. Aside from editing errors, I found the book difficult to understand and follow. I do understand what the book is about, however, it would have been a better read for me if it was more clearly written. It is possible that I just am not familiar w/the author's style and the fault lies with me. It will be interesting for me to see what others write in review about this book. Thank you. All the best.
Loved this story! Great addition to an incredible series! Highly recommend reading! Such an inspirational story full of romance, mystery, adventure, danger and faith!
