Valerie's greatest achievement is her refusal to sanitize her story. Too many faith-based memoirs rush toward redemption, glossing over the actual darkness of the valley. Here, we sit in that darkness with her—through the daily erosion of living with an alcoholic spouse, through the particular agony of watching children succumb to addiction, through three years where God seemed conspicuously silent. This authenticity makes her eventual emergence not feel like spiritual propaganda but like genuine, costly transformation.

This was a page turner. Valerie is honest and raw about her difficult journey while continually pointing the reader to trust and hope in God. Her faith shines through even as she grieves the loss of dreams and suffers the pain of heartbreak. At time it was difficult to read about one more thing that went wrong, but you wanted to know what happens next and knew there was still hope. I appreciate Valerie’s willingness to share so others can persevere through the storms in their lives.
