One that harbors a bloody secret. Will you survive or will you be another echo that haunts the halls.
This is NOT a romance, not even a dark romance; don’t even try to make that distinction.

thank you so much izzy for giving me the chance to arc read !! i was fully immersed in this erotic horror novella from the second i started this. wow. just wow.
my jaw is on the damn floor. please check the triggers and content warnings before reading because this is DARK. this is not a romance. THIS IS AN EROTIC HORROR. it is blood, mysterious, and creepy.
there were so many times i wanted to slap damien. like this dude literally does not listen and always wants what’s best for him. at one point i wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt but then he just had to fuck it all up again. theo … oh my sweet theo. him and alma have been besties growing up. he has always loved her but never got the chance to admit it and tell her until it was too late. he never felt like he was good enough for her because he felt him being deaf would be a problem. he didn’t want to burden alma with his disability and thought if he could introduce her to his brother then he would have her in his life forever. but alma doesn’t care about that. she loved theo for who he is. she has always thought it was going to be him until he introduced her to his brother. she didn’t want to lose theo so she thought at least if she was dating damien, she could still have theo. ugh these two broke my heart 💔
when they decided on moving to a secluded area, alma already had a terrible feeling about the place. she didn’t like the vibes and just didn’t want to be there. theo knows her like the back of his hand and felt the same way. they both tried to get damien to understand but he just wouldn’t budge. they later met a lawyer and was invited to their home for dinner … this is where shit goes downhill. i swear i didn’t blink the second they walked into that house. my jaw was on the floor. i couldn’t breathe.
oh how i wish this was longer. i love izzy’s writing so much. she always grabs me by the throat from the very beginning and i can never stop reading.
This is some creepy sh**. I have always stated that the reason I am able to read alot of what I do without being triggered is that I disassociate. It’s fiction it’s for reading entertainment purposes only. It’s not real. But sometimes, stories may you rethink things. All dinner invitations will be denied moving forward and that sucks cause this girl likes to eat.
Hold on tight cause when this gruesome story hits it’s gonna hit hard and fast. Just remember to close your mouth and blink.

This book and the author did not shy away from disturbing or taboo themes. It started out somewhat mild but once it hits you really are in for a ride! Erotic horror at its finest.
My only critique is I wish there was a little more backstory on the characters. And also why did they agree to go to the house anyway…iykyk
Review: (no spoilers) First and foremost, I’m so beyond grateful to have gotten a chance to read/review this as an ARC. Thank you so much Izzy 🖤🖤
When the Steps Run Red is an erotic horror novella that centers around Alma, Theo, and Damien who leave the city and move into a middle-of-nowhere farmhouse. If you’re like me and enjoy a book with a people eat-y vibe, I think you’ll really like this one. But it’s SO much more than that. There’s deaf representation and that definitely added to the heart wrenching experience of the story. I was not expecting this book to hit me in my feelings as hard as it did. I cried. I don’t mean I shed a few tears, I mean I CRIED and paused reading because I couldn’t see type of crying. Absolutely amazing. This book was short (85 pages) but boy oh boy did it pack a punch I cannot recommend this book enough! 5/5 stars just does not do it justice. 100000 stars!!!
I HIGHLY recommend horror fans give this one a read.
this book was alright. nothing was overly descriptive, every scene ended pretty quickly, and nothing really shocked me. theo was such a cutie and i felt sad about what happened to him. for an erotic horror, it leaned more towards horror, and the erotic part felt more like an afterthought and wasn’t written very well imo.
1st person - multiple povs erotic horror - not a romance gore/violence/rape no hea but there’s an alternate ending with a hea (not to all MCs)
What did I just read!? Did I enjoy this, why yes I did. Did I question myself while reading, absolutely. This is definitely not a dark romance, but is definitely dark. All I have to say is always trust a woman’s gut instinct.
How can someone make it feel like I was watching a gory horror movie but in words? Well, that's what Izzy Ravas has done to me.
We have three main characters -
Damien, brother 1. Bit of a dick. He's the leader, the appreciated one, the solver of all problems, or so he thinks, is excited for a new start in an old farmhouse gifted to them from their uncle.
Alma, our FMC, is the girlfriend of Damien, the dick and has the strongest gut instinct that anyone has never listened to. She knew from the get-go that something wasn't right.
Theo. Ah Theo, brother 2. He's deaf and is bestest friends with Alma and harbours envy towards his brother
They drive off into the countryside and meet the lawyers of the new town. And this is where things take a sinister turn.
Izzy is a depraved soul and should seek help. This is why she is one of my all-time favourite authors. I tried to read some of this book during my lunch and had to stop to read again when I wasn't eating.
Well done, Izzy, you're amazing!
☆☆☆☆☆ Horror, gore There is no HEA Graphic Good lord, check the triggers
When the Steps Turn Red is an electrifying erotic horror novella that masterfully blends elements of gore and darker themes, reminiscent of a chilling cross between Saw and Hostel. Izzy Ravas skillfully paints a grotesque picture of a sadistic family operating in a small town, capturing and tormenting unsuspecting victims before quite literally cooking them up for dinner.
The pacing is relentless, drawing readers in with its fast tempo and vivid imagery that will undoubtedly leave you feeling both horrified and entertained. Ravas's deft descriptions create a palpable sense of dread, immersing readers in a world where morality is twisted, and survival is uncertain. The details are sharp enough to keep your stomach churning, reminding us that the line between pleasure and pain is tantalizingly thin.
While this gripping novella won't appeal to everyone, those with a taste for the darker and more unhinged aspects of storytelling will find it a rewarding experience. If you enjoy narratives that push boundaries and explore the sadistic depths of human nature, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
This is not a dark romance, this is erotic horror, so don’t go to this book expecting romance. And please read the trigger warnings before reading!
I think the story had potential, but personally I felt like everything happened too fast and without much explanation.
I liked the beginning, moving to a new town and an old farmhouse, but after meeting the lawyer things happened so quickly and felt rushed. However, in my opinion the last few chapters were better. I personally liked the ending and felt like it fit the storyline well.
In summary, a good beginning and a good ending, but I did not enjoy the middle part. I didn’t have issues with the darkness, just with the overly rushed plot.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
Before I do my review I need to inform you this is not a rom com, it’s not a romance, it’s not a dark romance…it is a horror story 😈💀 Please heed the trigger warnings.
It is a quick novella. It throws you into the plot quite quickly, how Izzy describes the situation has you already on edge in anticipation of what’s going to happen.
It doesn’t take long for us to find out all is not as it should be and we are led into a nest of vipers with no sign of an exit 😱
Loved it, I may be slightly unhinged as the triggers were an invite for me and this had the right amount of thrill and trepidation to keep me enthralled.
When I tell you this is darker than dark, I mean it. This will have you questioning everything the entire 86 pages. Izzy throws in cannibalism, unintentional cannibalism, dismemberment, so many other insane elements that definitely make this a horror novella. Damien, Alma, and Theo had a very insane encounter with the Cavanaugh's. I honestly don't know how to feel after reading this. I definitely need something light and fluffy now😂

It is a quick novella. It throws you into the plot quite quickly For such a short novella, there was great character development and a well written storyline. If you like g0re, horror, depravity, all of the fuc*ed up things, then you need to read this!! You most definitely have to read ALL of the triggers before reading this.
well i don't even know where to start!! i was lucky enough to arc read this & i feel like ive been given literal whiplash off the back of this... i read some dark stuff, all taboo, all the shadow daddies etc etc but this on another level dark.. WAY darker than i expected and i was not prepared at all for the turns i was taken on... maybe if i was more prepared i'd feel less like ive been hit by a bus lol
let me just start by saying,if you don't like horror please don't read this,i am an avid dark romance reader and this is my first horror, and i dive into extreme horror i am fully aware.. but i pride myself on being honest, maybe this genre is a learning one for me after i've literally had time to digest what i read lol... that's why it's not always good to review immediately because now i would give it a 3.75/4 out of 5😵💫 i don't do well with gore (i mean the goriest i get is scream movies lol) and this book has a lot of that first and foremost! it was definitely provoking & gripping though! i couldn't put it down but i did leave literally shaking & feeling sick lol so that says a lot about me.. i also cried, like inaudibly scream cried after that...🙁😭
now enough negatives & on to more positive i guess?! •i lovedddd amla & my heart still hurts for her! •theo... OH SWEET THEO😭 •damien... he's a douche i hate him •and that family... AN IMMEDIATE NO FOR SO MANY REASONS
the plot is good! it is super well written and i truly fell in love with the characters,i fell in love with theo from the beginning.. his character development is great and going along the journey with him as one of the mmc's was categorically my favourite part and he is my favourite character!
i would defintely say if good reads would give me half stars that would be great,it is a solid 3.75/4⭐️ out of 5 & i need a palette cleanser after that and it's definitely been a learning expierence!! izzy's writing is great & i love her twist on this & i commend her crazy for this because i could never🥹
added on to this... i got the alternate ending😭😭 the alternate ending is defintely shooting it too 4 stars😭 thank you izzy for sharing the alternate ending with me🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
I feel like this book totally counts as a book out of my comfort zone for the month! As per usual, I just picked the book up without reading what it was about. To be honest though, I chose this book because I wanted to read this author’s work but I also knew I wanted a quick read so, I settled on this one.
*WARNING: LITE SPOILERS* So, what I found out about this book? It’s a horror. Listen, I know that the title and cover pretty much screamed horror but I was like nah, there’ll be some type of romance and happiness in this, at least at the end of it…no, this book is straight up horror. Yes, there’s some semblance of romance and yes, there’s “spice” in it —and I use that term VERY loosely but also to not get banned (you’ll understand when you read it)— but there will be no happy ending to this…unless you consider the epilogue a happy ending LOL. *END OF LIGHT SPOILERS*
While I was wholly unprepared for what I was getting myself into, I did find the story to be unique. I don’t think I’ve ever read a horror story to this level so I was pleasantly surprised by that. I mean, geez Damien needed to get a grip! Poor Theo really deserved so much better in this story and Alma, the horrors she had to face all for it to end that way?! I’m disgusted and disappointed for her! As a romance reader, I wanted more for these characters. But as this is a horror and a very short read, unfortunately, some characters don’t get their happy ending.
4 stars because it’s a new genre to me so I’m being gentler but also because I know this story is going to stay with me for a while!!!
📚📚📚 I had to literally sit and think about how I was going to write this review. This book has left me speechless!! This novella is definitely up there in the ranks for the darkest erotica horror I’ve ever read! With that said please check your triggers with this one because I was definitely gagging at points 🤣 I absolutely loved Theo and wow Damien was making me feel crazy at points but I loved him too! Alma is Damien’s girlfriend and girl my heart hurts for you!!! Alma’s gut instinct was everything in this and boy I bet they wish they listened to it! The way Alma and Theo were with each other ughhh I just wish they got more 🖤
Overall I absolutely love this one. My mouth is still sitting on the floor and wow will this forever be engraved in my head! I will now be needing to read every book Izzy writes!
📚📚📚 If you like to read: - Graphic tortur3 + shmurd3r - Horror/Gore - Primal play - Degradation - Blood play - LOTS OF TW … You should definitely check this out

Thank you so much for sending me a copy for an honest review in my own words.

This is NOT a romance, not even a dark romance; don't even try to make that distinction.
A girl, her partner and his brother move out to a secluded farmhouse 45 minutes away from the closest help, I mean town. Peachy right?! Nothing could possibly go wrong 😆
No but in all seriousness Alma and Damian were looking to start a family and Damians Brother had not long had the implant put in for his hearing, so they all just wanted a fresh start to make a better future for themselves, what better place to do it than a beautiful old farmhouse? Except Alma could instantly tell the vibes were off, something just wasn't sitting well, belongings were still left in the place as though the previous owner had been packing to leave then he passed before getting the chance to do so...let's be real that whole town is off 😆
My God this book will leave you with goosebumps and second guessing what's in the stew you just ate 👀
Love it. BUT CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS because this book has so much jammed into such a small package that I cannot post without being banned. It's dark man. But a trigger list is just a menu for some of us okay?

𝕸𝖞 𝕽𝖊𝖛𝖎𝖊𝖜: My mouth is still open as I’m writing this review. I’m not sure if I finished it, or if it finished me. I have discovered a new meaning to “masked” men now😧 I was happy one second, then jaw dropped the next, then gasping and then crying, just so much happening in an hour of reading. Oh man lol For such a short novella, there was great character development and a well written storyline. If you like g0re, horror, depravity, all of the fuc*ed up things, then you need to read this!! You most definitely have to read ALL of the triggers before reading this.
𝕼𝖚𝖔𝖙𝖊𝖘: “Now don’t you know not to go runnin’ up the stairs when murderers are after you?”

“Hope you enjoyed the fun. Now you’ve got to go.”
"I could never hate you for what we are being forced to do. You’re keeping me safe.”

This was PHENOMENAL. The horror, the gore, ugh. My first of Izzy Ravas, and I'm about to binge the backlist.
Damien, Alma and Theo, boyfriend, girlfriend and boyfriends brother, girlfriends best friend respectively. When Damien and Theo's uncle dies and leaves them a fixer upper, Alma leaves behind the big city and her family to start fresh with the guys.
When they arrive in the eerie little town of Alden, they run into Dierdre and her husband, they're new neighbours, who invite them round for dinner one evening. Intrigued by Theo's implants that help him to hear, but the fact that he still signs and doesn't talk much, the spider senses are set alight.
Despite the protests of his brother and now ex-girlfriend, Damien forces them to attend the meal. After a chewy dinner on unknown game meat, they're serenaded by the sons with a drink.
“When the clock strikes twelve and the murderers creep, whispers in the dark, where the dead lay sleep. Footsteps echo down the barren halls. The Cavanaugh’s wander, paintin’ blood on the walls. Ain’t nowhere to run, neither can ya hide. The darkness holds secrets that the light can’t bide. Through the bitter silence, hear the dread arise. In the grips of fear, truth wears a disguise.”
What happens next is dark. And I warn you to check your triggers. This is a dark horror with NO HEA.
"When the Steps Run Red" is a novella that straddles the line between splatterpunk and extreme horror.
This quick-read plunges you into the story almost immediately. Izzy's vivid descriptions create a sense of tension, making you eager to discover what unfolds. Damien, Theo, and Alma, daimen’s girlfriend, relocate from New York City to a remote town after inheriting an old farmhouse from their late uncle.
From the start, Alma senses something unsettling about the place; she feels uncomfortable and unwilling to stay. As they drive into the countryside, they meet the local lawyers, marking the moment when events take a dark and sinister twist.
Things to know
Graphic torture and murder, body dismemberment, removal of teeth, non-consent, dubious consent, forced oral copulation, primal play, verbal degradation, praise, unintentional cannibalism, cannibalism, blood play, unprotected sex, urine degradation, "masked" sexual encounters, forced necrophilia, double penetration, catatonia, and psychosis, no HEA
This was one disturbingly brutal, extremely bloody, and definitely violent little novella that had me captivated from start to finish! Not a story for those that don’t love erotic horror stories, because this one is gory and a bit disgusting at times. BUT PERFECT for me!
I got the creeps right away and kept yelling “TURN AROUND AND GO HOME” continually! And then I found myself just saying “IDIOTS” – IYKYK!
Let’s just say my jaw was continually dropping to the floor over what ends up transpiring to our unsuspecting characters, Damien, Theo and Alma. I was not ready for some of the weird and a bit titillating things that the strange and unhinged Cavanaugh’s come up with. Seriously, they are FUCKED UP!!! And boy did they ever creep me out. But I need more of this crazy family.
Fantastic writing that draws you in, makes the hair on your arms stand up, and creeps you out until you can’t sleep! Because you keep thinking about the whole situation you just immersed yourself in.
When the Steps Run Red Izzy Ravas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ 🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪 I’m not sure what I just finished… My brain can’t process everything that is in this short novella. First. This is NOT A DARK ROMANCE!!! Please listen to the triggers and read what the author says about it, and BELIEVE HER! This is horror. Erotic horror would be my best description if I had to describe it. This book is so dark. So gory. So depraved. It’s a great storyline. The characters are written great. The villains are easy to hate, one of the main characters you are totally cool with what ends up happening to… It does not have a happy ending. It does not have any type of vindication for the victims… it is just brutal. If you love horror, for the story line of the horror, you will adore this book. Like I said, it was written great. It has good world building, and so much is packed into this short book. But gah damn this may be the most fucked up book I’ve read so far in my erotic horror/ semi splatterpunk books so far.
