Fratelli: The Awakening

Rate this book
As the ruthless Vampire Don of the Louisiana underworld, Lucio Di Salvo has everything he needs—power, immortality, and an empire fueled by blood and seduction of the melanated he lusts for. But his world is haunted by an ancient prophecy that drives him to hunt the descendants of a famed hoodoo priestess, in hopes he finds the Chosen One, the only being capable of tipping the balance of power among supernatural forces.

One night, he crosses paths with Dolly, a sharp-witted and strikingly beautiful EMT, while she’s on an emergency call. Their encounter is brief, almost incidental, but something about her awakens a primal connection, stirring memories from another life—a desire he can’t ignore. As their fates intertwine, Dolly is irresistibly drawn into Lucio’s world, where passion ignites in the shadows and secrets lie buried beneath centuries of blood feuds. She begins to see glimpses of a part of herself she was never meant to know and ignites a forbidden desire that consumes all supernatural men.

You see Dolly carries a secret, one she doesn’t even know she possesses—a power woven into her very bloodline, a hidden weapon capable of unraveling the vampire hierarchy, even threatening the powerful Master Vampire, Don Vittorio Di Salvo, Lucio’s own father. As their attraction grows into an all-consuming, forbidden romance, the dark truth of her lineage could prove deadly for them both. For while Lucio hunts the Chosen One, he is unaware that the woman who ignites his deepest desires may also be the one to end him.

In The Vampire Cartel, love and power collide as Lucio and Dolly tread a dangerous line between ecstasy and destruction, lust and loyalty. Entangled in a romantic chiller that could shatter the very foundation of the underworld, they must confront the seductive and perilous forces that bind them together…or risk everything in a game that only one of them may survive.

This was tough, so tough I couldn’t finish it. The duality of the fmc was an interesting concept but I couldn’t see it through.

The flow of the story was all over the place and it was difficult to follow. There was a lot of jumping from one thing to another or the characters just saying weird things out of order. If an editor was used and I think it would’ve helped solve these issues plus address the many typos, wrong words usage, lack of punctuation, etc. The

This is kind of upsetting because I loved the Battaglia Mafia series, it’s probably in my top 10 of all time. But nothing I’ve read by the author since has really compared in terms of storytelling and character likability.

Im still rooting for her… maybe I’ll like the next release

Sienna Mynx is back after a 4 year hiatus and I couldn't be happier!! Her Battaglia Mafia Series was my introduction to mafia romance and a fan favorite til this day. The Fratelli: The Awakening is a sexy blend of the interracial, mafia, and paranormal romance genres and was totally worth the wait. This is book one of the Fratelli series and it has everything: hoodoo, vampires, werewolves, diamond encrusted fangs, family fueds, powerful ancestors, secrets and lies, jealousy and possession, good vs evil, and plenty of blood lust and spice. This is a great start to what feels like another great series from Sienna Mynx and I cannot wait for more.

What is going on?

I tried to finish this book but got to 42% and quit. I even put it down and tried to go back to it but couldn't. Sienna Mynx is a phenomenal writer but I just couldn't get into this story. Too many characters to keep up with. I may revisit the story again.

Interesting!!

This book kept my attention from the very first word I read. I immediately picked up the similarities in the sisters but one person personalities...(you have to have read the authors previous work to understand) no spoilers here! However, know that you will not be disappointed. This book is that good and Lucio... Whew Fire!! Can't wait for the next book to drop in my Kindle! Well Done Ms. Mynx!!!

I was excited to see a new book release from Sienna Mynx, I read most of her work in my younger days & enjoyed it. Still to this day, I go back & reread my faves. I was especially excited to see her delving into the paranormal romance world with this vampire tale. I’m sad I didn’t like it 😩

There were parts that were well written & easy to follow what was happening in the sequence, but other parts (large majority) of the book the writing was erratic & confusing. I didn’t like how the povs of the characters changed in every other paragraph or sentence…it takes away from reading when I have to work to figure out who’s speaking/telling the story.

Lucio falling for Dolly/Darlene quick makes sense because he’s an ancient & powerful vampire - she’s just another reincarnation of past lovers, simple enough. Dolly/Darlene falling for him so quick didn’t work for me. It was too instant. And while it’s creative that the twins are 2 beings in one…the writing of them could’ve been better. I don’t like either of them, which means I have no one to root for. I won’t be continuing this series.

A Paranormal Flop: My First DNF of 2025

I went into this book with high hopes. Sienna Mynx has such a reputation for storytelling, and I adore paranormal vampire stories. But at 43%, I had to set this one aside. I just couldn’t connect with the characters. They felt flat and lacked the depth needed to make me root for them. The story’s flow was also disjointed. Key scenes felt rushed, while others dragged on without contributing much to the plot.

While I know this author has incredible talent, this book didn’t showcase it. The romance felt forced, and the world-building lacked the vibrancy and intrigue that makes paranormal stories shine. It’s not often I DNF a book, but I couldn’t push through.

For readers who prioritize tropes over execution, this book might still appeal to you. Unfortunately, for me, this was a miss. If the author releases another paranormal novel, I’ll still give it a try because I know they are capable of better work.

MORE LIKE DARK AWAKENING

First, this is my first read from this author. I must say, I love her writing style and this book, though long, flows well. This book is very dark, and if you’re not into a lot of killing and darkness, this may not appeal to you. I, myself am not usually into the darker paranormals but this one has such a good plot that I couldn’t put it down. This book would make a great movie. After all it is a love story. I’m looking forward to book 2, because yeah I want to know if Dolly and Darlene will find a way to accept each other and work together for their survival. Does Lucio love Dolly enough to protect her from his family? How is this war, that’s coming, going to go down?

Such an amazing and talented author.

I don’t believe I’ve read anything by this author before and if not that’s on me! Such a talented writer, no typos, grammatically correct, entertaining and enthralling to say the least. I was so caught up in enjoying the read that I forgot to underline passages I found to be profound for me. This will definitely be a favorite of mine and so will the author, it’s the style of writing for me. I need to check out her other work, this book is just that compelling . Checked off all the things I love in a book and I do mean ALL. Can’t wait to read the sisters story and see how everything ties together. Thank you for coming back, your hiatus was well worth the wait.

An entrancing drama

Sienna is back! I love how she draws the reader in with how she develops her plot. I'm drawn to the drama of Dolly and Darlene. Will they unite? Do they want to? What has developed between Dolly and Lucio? What have they evolved into? Is it good or bad? The Fratelli Brotherhood and their relationship is unlike any related siblings I know. They seem so fractured, especially Domenico's hatred of his twin. What's up with that? And, is their father Vittorio worthy of them trying to save? I can't wait for the next book. Will the guardians succeed?

Edge of my Seat

This is an incredible book. The tales between a vampire mob boss and a witch are just mind-blowing. The love that Lucio has for Dolly and Darlene, wow.
The history that is woven between them is just overwhelming. I had to reread several pages to keep up. And the personality split between Dolly and Darlene, I can't wait to see how they are going to reunite to become one because they are so different.
I couldn't put this book down and I can't wait to see how it ends. I'm definitely rooting for Lucio, Dolly, and Darlene. Their love is epic.

Third Person POV

Super cool book. I love a story that creates its own world and its own rules. I’m not a fan of stories told from the third person point of view, I often avoid them like the plague. But this book did what very few have been able to do. It captured my attention just enough to get me to look past the omnipresent narration. I’m glad I stuck with it. All I could think while reading is that this would make a really dope Netflix series.

Love the authors past books, but this book was not for me, the MMC and MFC were not likable, not even as a hero/antihero
This was a Kindle Vella story and was converted into an e-book; there were just to many POV's from each side character, the book could use better editing to tie it all together.
Found that the story building was lacking, and it didn't flow well, just wanted it to end.

I'm not sure that I would read anymore books in this series; however for other readers, this book could be a good read.

Fascinating!!!

I absolutely love the combination of mafia and paranormal, it was a very entertaining and interesting read from start to finish. The storyline was easy to follow and kept you reading just to see what else was going to happen. Hope the ladies can figure everything out. Looking forward to reading book 2

Fratelli 1&2

I love the books they're different from your mafia books but I just want to know why Darlene can't have her own man I understand that there's one body but why can't she be two bodies! And Lucio can be happy with Dolly because Darlene does not love having like she loves domenico! But I love the books both of them.

Not her best work

Too much back and forth between characters I do not even care about. No real story building. Just a lot of telling, instead of showing. Nothing like her Battaglia series, which I love.

Fratelli

I enjoyed this book a lot. I don't think I've ever read paranormal with mafia. And the fact that the Dolly and Darlene felt like to different people instead of being a split personality. Lucio loves both women for different reasons. This was definitely a great read.

DNF @ 30%

The concept of this books is just chefs kiss! But the execution isn’t. The book has absolutely no flow, it’s all over the place which is a shame because I was really looking forward to it. I wish it had a strong direction.

ehh

Good concept, but poorly written. I understand the concept, but the book could use HEAVY editing, the flow of ideas, pacing and connection needs work.

I wanted to like this so much but much like a few others said, the story was all over the place. I got to the 45% mark and had to DNF. I was confused and lost trying to figure out what was going on.

This book was really good. I loved the mafia/ supernatural hybrid genre. I wasn’t too sure if I would enjoy the 2 separate fmc identities, but it really worked. I initially disliked Darlene but she really is misunderstood and has gone through so much. The friendship between Dolly, Charmaine and Sonya reminded me of the Cove sisters trio. I’m excited to see more of the girls and their supernatural beings in the next book (I can’t stand Sonya for what she done to Dolly though). I can’t too see how everything will come together. Another amazing book from one of my favourite authors.
( I loved the pictures featured in some chapters)
