Jax me propose d'être libre
en échange de son aide dans une mission dangereuse.

Mais lorsqu'il découvrira le secret que je cache, je serai tuée. C’est certain.

A cliffhanger

The fact this is a cliffhanger was buried at the bottom of the synopsis and I didn't notice, so beware the 600 plus page book is not the end of the story and God only knows when the rest of it will come out. I refuse to read incomplete series and always wait until all the books are out before I start the first volume because I won't wait around years for each successive piecemeal installment, forcing me to re-read half-assed work to refresh myself on the story before I continue just so the author can milk out a few more dollars from Kindle. I'm guessing that's why authors have stopped being clear about how many books are in a series or that a book is even part of a series, because so many readers don't want to read cliffhangers -- bait and switch.

The story was interesting enough to read through the end but I no longer trust this author to have any honesty about their work not to mention a decent editor, so I won't be looking for the next volume because who knows if that will even be the end of the story and the author is not upfront or ethical enough to say how many books I'll have to wait through to get there. Can't say the writing is worth the wait because there's a number of plot, typographical, and grammatical errors. No, I can't recommend this author if they're going to pull a bait and switch by not detailing at the top title listing that this is 1 of x number of books. So whoever you are, you just lost a reader and I won't be looking for any further work or recommending the story in the least. Be honest and clear at the top of the title and cover and stop burying the fact that you released an incomplete story down at the bottom of the synopsis where it can't be seen unless you expand that section.

good story, but…

A good story, holds a lot of promise. The writing is absolutely atrocious though. Names were switched, point of views were switched at random, jumping in the story without any kind of transition, and the writing was too chopped up.

I liked this one. Heroine is traumatized by her serial killer father, she’s rejected due to her connection to her evil father.

The world building is good, but it’s setting up too much and is too long.

3 I’m not a fan of cliffhangers stars.

Bentornate Fenici!

Libro consigliato.

Alla prossima

Un saluto dalla vostra Mal

The storyline is great and has a lot of potential. Serial killer father, mates, wolves, witches, plots for evil, it is an interesting story. However, the writing is atrocious and hurts my eyeballs. Switching from first to third person mid paragraph, switching names and genders, random and incomplete quotation marks, odd paragraph formatting, jumps in time with no indication, reading this is mental gymnastics. Also, 600 pages ending in a rushed cliffhanger?

This Dragged

Ok so one the title make zero sense. Two the world building needs a ton of work as does character development, plot, hell everything.

This was so very long and felt over at the 300 pg marker.

How is this a series?

How is this a long series?

It was making my eyes and brain bleed from boredom.

Read at your own risk.

A barely 3 star read for me. I have thoughts, but I’ll save them until I finish book 2.

*Edit*

I gave up on book 2 a few chapters in, so let’s talk what does and doesn’t work here.

The most frustrating thing about this book is that this is a great concept with really engaging characters! Jax and Anna had that enemies to lovers vibe going for them, and there was a solid backstory with Anna’s past coming back to haunt her that gave some mystery and angst to an already interesting plot.

I just wish this author had an editor to help develop those things. There’s really three book plots rolled together that make up this book - not simultaneously happening, genuinely one ends and we roll right into the next one. It really dragged the pacing and made the story feel bogged down and way too lengthy. This should’ve been multiple books, or we should’ve gotten less dense “down-time” in between these arcs.

The worst part for me though was how that ending dragged then ended on a damn cliffhanger out of nowhere. This author wanted to build tension but fell flat with the constant start-stops of hare-brained schemes the antagonist pulls trying to win at the end. To have the book cutoff in the middle of that and call it a cliffhanger was frustrating because it didn’t build like a good cliffhanger would.

Then to have that resolve in LITERALLY the first five pages of the next book! It felt like a trick to get more downloads/sales - NOT genuine storytelling.

I did it! I finally finished this book, and whew...it was a BEAST (insert chuckle because beast…wolves 🤣). I never look at page length when I start a book, but I had a couple of friends point out the length while I was reading it, but I was like pssh, I've got this. Whelp...it took me FOREVER lol.

I am super picky about shifter/rejected mates books, but I really liked this one. You get wolf shifters and witches. Magic and fated mates. The angst, the tension, the rejection, the story...it completely consumed me, and I literally stayed up way too late reading this book the past couple of nights. Could it have been shorter, maybe, but for me it didn't drag and it kept me engaged by constantly throwing in new and unexpected twists.

This one does end on a cliffy, so be ready to want to dive into the next book asap. Personally, I need a few days to recover, and then I'll start it. LOL.

This was a good paranormal romance read. It is low on the spice level, character driven, and has a well paced plot. I appreciate the relationship between the MMC and the FMC, though I do think the MMC has a ton of groveling to do. Lots of moving parts that make it a page turner and eager to read book two.

DNF at 35%, so no star rating. This book is terribly done. The male lead is a trash fire and the grammar/formatting is enraging.

"..as he slowly finished pealing the pants down my legs." Pealing? Like the the loud ringing of a bell instead of "peeling"? The book is chock full of sentences like this.

The author is also terrible at letting you know who is saying what outloud. Open parenthesis without closed parenthesis. Open parenthesis, paragraph ends, new paragraph starts with no parenthesis, suddenly there is a closed parenthesis out of nowhere. You realize that ALL of that was being said outloud, and you have to go back and re-read. Often, open parenthesis start with no indication who is talking, and you have to read and re-read half a page using context clues to figure out what is happening. Frustrating as hell.

Jax is dumber than a bag of hammers and a walking miscommunication trope. He is an awful partner and leader. He brute forces every interaction and every choice is based on assumptions with the absolute minimum of information. Always angry that people haven't volunteered information that they didn't know he wanted because he is a big dumb-dummy idiot-child. He learns that he completely misjudged his mate 25% of the way through the book, then decides to be shitty to her all over again when he realizes that he can't override her completely with his alpha will. How dare she! He is constantly bending his pack to his will with no explaination and is angry he can't abuse her the same way. This is not supposed to be a dark romance. We are supposed to like him. I LOATHE him. I get the vibe that he is never going to grovel, and to make up for being a total shit, he would need to grovel HARD. It seems more like he wants her to grovel.

NO ONE in this book (except Finn) will be worthy of even her friendship at the end of this. I want all of the wolves AND witches, except for Finn and Anna, to die. Who knows, Finn might be evil too? Without that, this book won't have a happy ending for me.

Jesus.
More than 500 pages and it’s not even finished?
There’s another book like this one?
Really?
Just no.
This was honestly too much, too far fetched, too all over the place.
Heroine is hero’s enemy because she’s the daughter of an infamous psycho killer.
Hero and heroine find out they’re mates, he rejects her but keeps her in her pack working like a barista.
Three years later he has to interact with her because he needs her to lead him to the witches because hi pack witch has been kidnapped.
Apparently the heroine is able to nullify every magic.
So the torture begins.
That is, it was ok when the hero and the heroine tried to fight their bond, he misunderstood her because he thought she was like her father, but she was his victim too.
But then the story started to sound like one of those endless saga that never see the end.
One enemy, two enemies, three enemies four…
In the end I wanted to hit fast forward 100 pages because I couldn’t stand the situation anymore.
I mean. Focus on one story line, on one villain.
But dont make it hurt.
Don’t put too many useless facts and things, changing the plot like the author herself didn’t know how it would end.
I still don’t know if she knew how it would end and it is apparent.
There were too many loose ends, too many enemies that you think are the main villain while they’re just excuses to drag the story long.
So, it could have been interesting if it had been 200 pages shorter and with a half of the characters involved.
Safe read, at least.

I actually enjoyed this book and enjoyed the writing and story. It wasn't way too juvenile in the writing, and there was a decent story. What I actually did not like was the fact that this book was so freaking long! There is no reason at all for this to have been drawn out as much as this has. Then, the cliffhanger just seemed to happen at a random tense time.

Editing-wise, I did find instances of missing punctuation, or punctuation not used correctly. With a book like this, it is honestly to be expected any more.

This book totally had the feel of wattpad or AO3, in that there was another chapter with more happening, then another, then another, until you have had so many things happen that aren't really connected and 80% of which wasn't even needed to begin with. With the length of this book and the fact that there is a second one, I suspect this could have easily been cut down to one, more coherent, book.

This author isn't that bad, though! Normally when I come across shifter novels that go on forever with no real path, they are afflicted with the dreaded immaturity to the writing, dialogue and reactions. This one wasn't as bad. I did want to experience more emotions from the characters, since as it is, I can see that they like each other, but there are really no emotions involved that I can tell.

I will continue to the next book, since I do like the writing, but if you are looking for a succinct and tidy story, these books are not it.

DNF. Interesting storyline but main characters are lacking. Also, the story line drags a bit too much.

Might contain spoilers:

The male lead, Jax, has no redeeming qualities. He rejects his mate Anna because he believes that she is just like her serial killer father. Then for the next 3 years she lives under a threat of his pack physically abusing her and definitely verbally abusing her. After her protector dies she gets physically abused but Jax doesn't care because she can just shift and heal herself. Also, even after mating with her - nothing romantic it's just so he can settle his aggression - he literally loaths her because of who she is.

The storyline is laughable: the pack favorite female was abducted and tortured by Anna's father, a serial killer. She heals her enough so she can escape and come back and come back with help to rescue 3 other younger girls. With her dying breath that woman tells her brother that she has to "save her". Well the whole pack decided collectively that "her" is not Anna but one of the other girls. They are all upset as Anna killed her by sending her out on a rescue mission. Literally the whole pack hates her because Anna gave that woman a choice : staying and dying or healing her so that she can make a run for it and maybe survive....

😭😤🖤

Before I get into the review I’m going to say it ends in a cliffhanger and I really only read the ones that warn it’s a cliffhanger. I’m okay with waiting for the next one if I know ahead that things won’t be resolved in this book.
Ok, I’m going to start with I REALLY liked this book. I loved Anna, with all she’s been through she’s still strong but I swear I want to give her a Mom hug when her insecurities come out to play. And her wolf, it just broke my heart. I loved Jax but sometimes I really wanted to smack him AND his pack. Fin is awesome and I even have a tiny little bit of love for Kenzie. The plot kept me interested, there seems to be no major plot holes (thank you Ms Author) but there were parts that dragged for me and I can’t explain why which is weird, I know.
My only issue (it’s a pet peeve of mine) is that there were several wrong words used and it took me right out of the story (it was the same in the first book ) and some sentence structures just made my brain hurt (there’s only MAYBE 3-4 instances of that though and it could be because I’m a word nerd, who knows?
Honestly I recommend reading them.
PS would really like to know an estimated release date for the third book

This goes on my list of terrible edits, or it just wasn't edited at all.

The female and male back and forth isn't an annoying part of the plot. You take time through the book to hear what she went through and notice when he shows remorse. Some books really drag it out, every reaction was expected due to the circumstances, even if you didn't agree with their choices.

The fmc’s dad was a serial killer and she would be traveling with him and tried to escape the abuse multiple times. The male thinks she was a partner and not a victim, so he allows people to abuse her and he ignores her for years. Doesn't decide she's worth going near until witches come up missing and he needs her for something.

Along the journey they hate each other but can't keep their hands off. This book has so many events happening right after the other, it definitely earned those pages. I had to think about the book like a TV show, literally, it was my only way to get through all the switches. The book could have ended multiple times with all the traveling, deaths, fights, kidnappings, and twists. Gosh, it's like the author just didn't know when to end it.

Ends with a dangerous situation, gotta read the next one to find out what happens.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Warning: The book does leave off in a cliffhanger which hints towards a second book coming or in the works (or at least I hope so!).

Wow! The story of Jax and Anna is not a simple one. Two people who are fated mates but complete opposites in majority of ways. Jax being an Alpha and Anna being the daughter of a killer-this alone explained that the story was not going to be all sunshines and rainbows like some fated mates stories are. As the two get to know each other and learn more about it each other, something does develop and things are learned about the two as the story continues. I will say this, there were moments where Anna frustrated the hell out of me and made it hard to continue. But I am assuming that there is a reason why the author made her that way for character development.

However, if you are looking for an enemies to lovers story with fated mates that has some twist and turns, a slight suspense and more, then you have found you book. I can't wait to read more Jax and Anna's story since their story does leave off in a cliffhanger.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Actually, I'm giving this book a 2.5

It was ok. Rejected mates is my jam right now. This storyline had the makings of an interesting read. It's just that the execution was a bit problematic. Grammar, clarity, punctuation, etc. were all lacking.

I admit that I do get so frustrated with a story with 2 leads that are so dumb and cannot simply use their "big people" words and COMMUNICATE. If they would just TALK to each other, that would reduce this book to at least half the length. What would be left is the outside antagonists that are wreaking havoc on the mountain packs. That would still be a good story, but it was a missed opportunity as I spent a lot of the book wanting to bitch slap the FMC.

According to Amazon, this Forbidden Alpha Kings series has 109 books!!! I have to believe there are multiple authors contributing here. But since this one ended on a cliffhanger, I will continue with the next book because I need to find out what happens. So there's that. AND there is a secondary character, Finn, that I am completely enamored with. I would love to see his story and I hope he gets a HEA.

I really wanted to love this book! It started off strong, but I quickly lost interest. The writing was disappointing, and the plot felt flat, leaving me with a sense of whiplash. The relationship dynamics between the female main character (FMC) and the male main character (MMC) were unconvincing, lacking the necessary buildup. Their interactions became repetitive, and unfortunately, the writing suffered from the same issue.

It felt as though the story ended and restarted multiple times, making it difficult to stay engaged. I believe the author could have expanded these plots into a series to create a more compelling narrative. Additionally, the predictability of the plot diminished any suspense. The characters often figured out what was happening before it was revealed, which robbed the story of its tension.

Ultimately, I decided to DNF the book at 63%. I just couldn’t continue. Now I’m searching for a wolf shifter romance that is well-written, with strong character development and an engaging plot. Sadly, this book did not deliver.

DNFed at 63% for several reasons.

1) Poor writing with tons of grammatical/spelling errors. Author needs an editor badly.

2) Characters were unlikable, especially our MMC and FMC, who we're supposed to be invested in. Over half way through, and these two genuinely seem to hate each other. Given their history as we learn about it, I cannot fathom any sort of healthy relationship forming between them.

3) Bad guy is picked out and super obvious by like 50% in, and not just by us the reader, but by the main characters. What is the other 50% for, if you're clearly not dealing with it and just letting him continually set up plan after plan to get what he wants?

4) Way way too many plot points rolled into one book. This should have been like 3 books with how many things they throw into this one.

5) This book ends on a cliffhanger despite it being almost 600 pages long. And again, the main bad guy is figured out 50% in. Talk about dragging it out. More is not always better.

Lost focus..got too long.

It started out good but lost focused. The storyline got lost into too many angst and side plots. First the h rejecting the FMC; then the pack hating the FMC; then another women wanting the h; then another guy wanted the FMC; then a witch attacked the MC; then the FMC leaves with the villain/other guy to save everyone; and then finally the h fake mate another woman and severe the bond with the FMC. Too much angst with the MC being defeated constantly. Lots focused with what's really the main storyline. Good start but weak execution in the end. The ending showed the h being held in jail but of course that's the ending. The FMC was weak and the h was weak with the villain/other guy being more powerful. This was too long winded and now there is another book also. Shorter with more focused plot would have made this a better read. Two stars since I did like half of the book. Won't be reading the next one though.

Overall I did actually enjoy this book and the next. They were definitely long books which I actually enjoyed and had a lot going on. The mmc alpha was an asshole to the mfc for a chunk of the book until he figures out he made a mistake. I was pissed how he treated her and wanted him to grovel a bit more but because the book is so long you almost forget what a dick he was by the end. The second book had some issues and I felt like for how long the books are it was resolved too quick at the end. Overall I would say a very solid read.

Trigger warnings - this series has a lot of attempted rape and off page previous sexual assault. It was a bit unsettling to me at times only because it always leaves a bit of a sour taste for me to read about something that happened to the main character (even though it’s off page) and then transition to an explicit spice scene - but that is just my own issue.

I’m undecided…

I can’t decide what this rating should be, so I’m going with three. It’s not a five, definitely. I thought it might be a four but I just can’t. There is so much happening that I almost can’t keep things straight. It’s one of those kitchen sink things where the author is just throwing anything she can into the story.

Jax is the Alpha. He’s stupid and does a knee jerk rejection. Anna is his mate but like I said, he’s dumb and rejects her. And then he leaves her for three years. I don’t know the rules of this universe so there’s nothing that says he cheated. I’ll have to double check on that…

Anyway so much happens that you need a scorecard. There is betrayal on a level that hurts Jax. And there’s a cliffhanger where Anna may be in trouble.

KU read, and I will read book 2. I want to know who the Big Bad is if it isn’t that Emerson jerk.
