The final instalment in this dragon-filled, emotional, spicy romantasy trilogy for lovers of Fourth Wing and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Rhea was almost free.

Snatched from Prince Torrin’s castle, she’s now a captive of Tarakona’s enemy – the Fenuaheran military. She's not just a prisoner, she's a weapon to hone. The military, uniquely, has the means to train Captain Alaric Fuller, another First Bloodline Anamali. Tall, golden-haired, and smug, he can teach her how to defeat the magic-stealing Youngbloods.

Thorne is torn between his loyalty to Rhea and his newfound family, who just so happens to be her captor. Without his magic, he is rediscovering who he is – until the coughing starts. The sickness that should take him in twenty years has arrived early.

With war upon them, Rhea has to face new facets of her power, including the dark magic that lies within her. But the more powerful she is, the more effective she is as a weapon. Can she gain enough control to save Thorne and return magic to Tarakona before Fenuaheray destroys her?

Such a great conclusion to this series! It went in a way that I did not expect, however I was really hoping it would go the way it did by halfway (possibly sooner)! I've done my best to keep this spoiler free so it's a bit cryptic at points 🩷 🐉🗡

I loved the character development in this book, with Rhea having to work to overcome the events from the past book as she is imprisoned with Thorne by his family. I grew extremely frustrated with Thorne, and was very happy with how A. Jane solved their relationship issues, it is what I was mentally screaming at my book to happen 🤣! My favourite way to help a relationship 😊 It would have been nice to have seen Rhea interact with more of her friends/acquaintances, as she mainly interacted with just Thorne and Fuller (new character) in this book, with the others not nearby - meaning her relationship with other characters pretty much stopped developing in the last book, but thats more personal preference.

The worldbuilding also really developed in this book, as Rhea and Thorne traveled to a different kingdom, where they met new people and learned more about magic, the land and the people. In general, I loved the worldbuilding of this series, it was so cool and I loved all the little details and Māori names and (New Zealand) native animals included.

I recommend this series to anyone who wants a completed romantasy series with dragons, royalty, some fighting, and, of course, a bit of treason!

Of Crystals and Crowns kicks off where book 2 ended and completes this romantasy trilogy.

Rhea has been betrayed, abused and is once again a prisoner.  I enjoyed the scenes where Captain Fuller trained Rhea to use her powers and helped her face the dark magic within.  Their connection and storyline had me hooked early on.

I was eager to see where Thorne's story went and was surprised at the direction, but it made sense as he meets his newfound family and the sickness starts to affect him 20 years early.  His grief at the loss of being able to communicate with the dragons was also told well.

I enjoyed Rhea's character growth from book 1 to the end and highly recommend this trilogy for anyone who likes dragons, magic and a completed romantasy series!

Special thanks to A Jane Dove for an advanced copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.

Of Crystals and Crowns by A. Jane Dove

Of Crystals and Crowns marks the thrilling conclusion of the Tarakona Chronicles, beginning with Rhea's daring escape and her growing sense of uncertainty about the future. This final installment deepens Rhea's character development as she navigates trust and betrayal, ultimately embracing her powers. The introduction of a new character significantly shifts the trajectory of her journey, enriching the narrative.

The evolution of the love story between Garrett Thorne and Rhea delivers unexpected twists, enhancing the emotional stakes. New characters emerge to support the ongoing battle between good and evil, adding layers to the plot. Dove's writing style excels in world-building, with vivid imagery and detailed descriptions that bring the characters and their surroundings to life. The quick-changing perspectives throughout the chapters maintain clarity while adding complexity, making it easy to follow the intertwining narratives. The pacing is brisk, especially in the last quarter, where tension builds to a gripping climax.

The spiciness of the romance is tastefully done, with the new love interest contributing to intimate scenes that feel authentic and enriching rather than cringeworthy. Shorter chapters amplify the intensity of the story, driving the reader forward. Having read over 100 romantasy novels this year, I can confidently say this series stands out among the best. While it shares familiar themes of good versus evil, Dove’s unique characters and engaging plotlines keep it fresh and compelling.

The emotional turmoil within the story left me conflicted, but the conclusion brought a sense of closure, even if I might have chosen a different ending myself. This series is perfect for fans of fast-paced fantasy infused with romance and spice. Dove’s imaginative prose is both accessible and evocative, providing a delightful reading experience without overwhelming the reader with complexity.

I would have loved to see the ending slightly extended, as some pivotal moments felt rushed, leaving me wanting more clarity. Nevertheless, my overall enjoyment of the book remains high, and I highly recommend Of Crystals and Crowns to anyone seeking an exciting and immersive fantasy read.

The final instalment of The Tarakona Chronicles takes you on a journey.
As with the previous book - this one picks up where the last finished.
I felt many things while reading this. My girl Rhea never got the dragon i wanted for her, but i did have dust particles in the eyes at her ending.
Our man Torrin got what ill call KARMA. Well played Rhea. Well played.
Alaric - let me tell you. I didn’t like you to begin with. But sir. You grew on me. 🥰

As a whole i have thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy and need to hurry up and get my book trophy to complete the set ☺️ with beautiful Kiwi Accents, Dragons, Action, Twists and Turns. This has a bit of something for almost everyone!

Couldn't wait for the final book of the series come out!

It starts right off where book 2 ended with he coming to terms with what happened to her and navigating being a prisoner once again.

I loved the strong princess Rhea had become and the change she goes through to finally reclaim her own narriative.

While i would've loved a slightly different ending, this book was still an allround enjoyable read with old well beloved characters as well as many new faces that I quickly grew to love or hate.
