Hard Whispers #2

Waking The Dragon

Rate this book
Years after Pamela Graham thwarted a US-government plot to kill millions of its own citizens, a new presidential candidate is poised to take the White House. Donald Wynn’s loyal following supports him primarily because of his tough, anti-China stance—a position that puts him in the crosshairs of Eastern leaders.

Pamela, meanwhile, is trying to get over her paranoia and lead a normal life when this clash of world leaders threatens to pull her back into a life of conspiracy and intrigue. As polls begin to clearly favor Wynn as President of the United States, strange, dark-suited men seem to once again be tailing her. It is at this point Pamela learns that her adopted Russian son, Alex, has a close personal tie to the Chinese president—a man who’s dead-set on keeping candidate Wynn out of the presidency, even if it takes deadly force.

As East and West collide, Pamela is forced to sort good from bad, serve the country that once betrayed her, and most important, keep herself and her family alive.

Good story line tied in with current world events. Hard to put down once you start reading. I was happy to see that the chapters in the book were short. One thing I hate chapters that go on and on forever. Looking forward to the next book in this series to see what lies ahead for Pamela and Alex.

This marvellous book, following on from Hard Whispers but standing alone as a novel must, is exciting from start to finish. An adventure story on the grand scale, in the tradition of John Buchan, it sweeps the reader off his feet on the first page and doesn't slow down until it deposits him, slightly out of breath, at the wonderfully satisfying conclusion.

I didn't love it quite so well as I did Hard Whispers, mainly because it doesn't have as much of the resourceful Pamela Graham, but I loved it quite well enough to give it five stars, and to look forward very enthusiastically to future offerings from this brilliant new author.

This follow -up book to Hard Whispers by Pamela Martin was just as action packed and entertaining as the original. Once again our heroine finds herself in the midst of intrigue and danger, endeavoring to foil a plot against a presidential candidate and stop a threat of world control by China. As a light read, I enjoyed the book thoroughly, however I was somewhat disappointed by the abrupt ending. Realizing there will most likely be (if there isn't already) a (Hard Whispers #3), I would have liked a better finish to this one.

It is a battle between East and West, good versus evil a.k.a. power.

Pamela Graham once again fights her paranoia after thwarting a government plot to kill millions of its citizens several years ago. As a new president candidate emerges and her adopted Russian son has ties with the Chinese president the lines gets murky.

She must decide what is right and wrong. A quick packed thriller that moves along.
