Justin Rollins, Viscount Blackmoor, lost his wife and third child in childbirth three years before. It was a love match, and Justin could not get over his grief. He withdrew into a cold and angry shell, who selfishly ignored his two children and refused to move on with his life. On the other hand, he was very much under his mommy's thumb. She wanted him to remarry and dragged him to balls and dinners, while pushing him at a flighty debutante he had no interest in. He was incapable of opening his mouth and saying no.

Into the picture comes Sophia Hartley. Her merchant father's death left her and her mother and sister impoverished. With no experience as a governess, she goes to the local newspaper to seek a position. Why the newspaper serves as an employment agency is not explained. She ends up as governess to the viscount's two children and catches his eye. Not sure what's ethereal about their encounter.

A Cinderella story, suitable for young teens.

The storyline is fairly typical - widower filled with grief and oblivious to his children, mother who has a second wife picked out for her son, and a very compassionate governess. I enjoyed the FMC as I do like responsible, strong young women. The MMC could have shown a bit more strength at least for his children’s sakes.

Rather boring.

No witty repartee, no sarcasm, no sexual innuendos. Pretty bland; I think more suited to teens. Not compelling enough to read further books by this author.
