"His hand brushed my neck and stayed there. In a graceful movement, he leaned down, not even hesitating when he brought his lips down on mine for the whole room to see."
Kylin is left torn, and haunted by recent memories of loss and betrayal. She must move forward without being able to leave the past behind. She finds herself stuck in a place parallel to a time before, this time with eyes open.
When the world feels shattered, Kylin struggles to find strength. Every move is monitored. Every step is calculated. Every decision feels heavy. When facing what led up to this moment, she's well aware her thoughts could be used as a weapon. The past has her doubting her next step, threatening to pull her into her greatest fears.
I did not want to put this book down and finished it in a little over a day. My heart hurt alongside Kylin, Malik, and Ranael as they navigate Kylin’s memory returning.
That ending was an absolute emotional rollercoaster and I cannot wait for the last book! Kylin’s journey and growth through each book has been so beautiful to witness, and seeing all different races come together is getting me so excited for Helion’s downfall.
I hope Helion gets a gruesome ending 🤷🏻♀️ and Kylin lives happily ever after with her vampire and hybrid 😂
While I absolutely LOVE the first two books in the series, Lightning fell a little flat for me. 🙁 I was really excited to see how our little love triangle was going to play out, but then...it didn't? That aspect of the novel was very repetitive. There was also A LOT going on, and parts seemed rushed. It felt very surface level, and I wasn't feeling any of the feels for our main characters in this one like I did the first two 😭😭
But all that to say, the last 10% was so so good, and I still want to continue the series and see where Kylin takes us!
Thank you so much to the author for my copy to read and review 🩷

✨ A Mortal Queen: Lightning ripped me apart and stitched me back together with tears, blood, and a little bit of hope. ✨
First of all... PAGE 288. I will never emotionally recover. 🥀
Watching Kylin choose duty over love, sacrifice her heart for a kingdom that didn’t deserve her, and fight like hell to hang onto her memories broke something in me. Malik and Ranael? I’d die for them. RESURRECT for them. Die again for them. 🔥
The spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ The emotional trauma? Deliciously brutal😭☠️ The heartbreak? So real, I needed a support group by the end. 💔
Kylin’s strength, her stubborn hope, and her need to be seen and loved exactly as she is hit me right in the soul. Watching her battle doubt and pain to forge her own path made me want to scream, cry, and fist-bump the universe.
If you love:
Heartbreak so good it feels illegal 💔
Found-family vibes
Big men, broody, stubborn nightmares you still want to kiss.
THIS BOOK IS YOURS.
5 feral ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. 3 flaming 🌶️🌶️🌶️. 1 💔 that will never beat the same again.
ARC Review: A Mortal Queen: Lightning (Book 3) Spoiler-Free
Book 3 picks up right where we left off—Kylin is reeling from heartbreak, betrayal, and the weight of impossible choices. The emotional stakes are high, the atmosphere heavy, and the writing beautifully introspective.
That said… love triangles are not my love language. While I understand why Kylin feels torn (especially after what she endured in Book 2), it was hard for me to fully embrace that tension. I wanted to root for her healing without the added romantic whiplash.
Still, the world remains rich, the inner conflict is raw, and I’m deeply invested in where her journey leads next.
Rating: 3/5
–S. currently hoping book 4 gives my girl clarity (and one emotionally available man)
There's werewolves, witches, elves, vampires and DRAGONS, what more could you want?
This book picks up where we left off and had me hooked from the start. I was completely immersed in the story and just couldn't stop reading. Once again my expectations were met. As before, there were a lot of new revelations. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, and there was one plot line in particular that surprised me, but I can't say because of the spoilers. I love, love, love Kylin. It's a real pleasure to be inside her head and look at the world through her eyes. The poor girl is so confused and her emotions are so raw and tangible that you can't help but feel for her and suffer with her (but also, if I were Kylin I would know exactly who to pick but that's probably just the Edward girlie in me speaking). Speaking of Malik, every time he opened his mouth I was left blushing, not to mention giggling and kicking my feet. This book made me fall in love with him all over again. There's some character development, which I for one love to see, and the plot thickens as we're building up to the grand finale that is book four. The secondary characters also continued to grow on me and have a special place in my heart, especially Tyllis and Emilie, and I can't help but hope that one day we'll get a novela with the stories of said characters. Book four can't come soon enough.
This is book 3. In this series, make sure u read books 1 and 2 cause this book starts off where book 2 left off. And remember, this is a fantasy romance with vampires, dragons, shape shifters, elves, witches, and kings.
Kylin is a mortal and is trapped in Helion's castle chambers, and she left behind her men and friends Malik, Avery, Tyllis, Emilie, Nick, and Ranael Malik yhe vampire king and Ranael, the hybrid werewolf, will stop at nothin to get her back and away from Helion and his crew's hands. Jade is a dragon and is loyal to the throne where Kylin is bein held along with the other 2 dragons, Magnus and his brother Darrien, who has been guarding Kylin. Helion wants to marry Kylin to have a union of their lands, and it will crown her as queen consort. This book had me in an emotional roller-coaster cause Kylin still doesn't have all her memories back and I absolutely love Malik so it's destroying me emotionally and I can't wait for Kylin to get her memories back and Malik and Ranael back and they destroy Helion and his elves. I loved how both men Malik and Ranael will put their feelings on hold just for Kylin to figure out her feelings. This book leaves on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read book 4.
Ahh another great installment! I just can't get enough of this series and these characters!
This picks up where book 2 left off, the fast pace kept me hooked and Kylin was SO relatable, I mean she has the vampire king and the hybrid werewolf to choose from, impossible right? 👀😂 Her mixed feelings and confusion over the situations are so valid, I really felt her emotions throughout the story 🥺
This book reminded me why I fell in love with Malik, he's just so swoon worthy!! Everything he says has me melting into a puddle!
And Ranael 🥹 we really learnt alot about him in book 2, but I loved that he was willing to back off once her memories came back to let her sort through her feelings, much like Malik did to allow her to explore things with Ranael. The fact that both of these men are willing to put aide their wants and needs in order to see Kylin happy 🫠🫠🫠
I loved that we got some other character development too and learnt more about them, I won't say who though because spoilers 👀
As usual I'm left needing more and I can't wait for the next one!!
i’m sorry to say this was a 2.5/5 for me. i really liked the first one and thought the second was okay, but this one never really captured me.
i think both the writing and pacing was pretty bad, the plot felt all over the place and while a lot of things were happening, other parts felt repetitive.
i wasn’t convinced by the second book’s mmc and throughout this third book i kept thinking that it would have been a more interesting story (to me) if he’d been made a father figure rather than love interest. i don’t think the love triangle anxiety the fmc is grappling with was well developed, it read more like she was thinking the same thing over and over while the story was happening around that.
generally this book felt rushed and under developed, which is a shame because the overall story is interesting and i still care for the characters. i want to know what happens and will read the fourth and last book when it comes out, with the hope that it reads more like the first rather than the third book in the series.
I couldn't put down this book! I wanted to know who Kylin picked, and that didn't disappoint. Kylin follows the prophecy and needs to be saved from the Elven king Helion. Malik and Raenel save her, and they try to find her aunt Leanne. On the way, Kylin has to choose between King Malik or Raenel. Her heart is torn in two, and she explores both options throughout the book. Lighting explored where Kylin's heart is, as well as her strength in defeating the Elven King. I like the character development throughout the story. Not only Kylin's development, but also all the people around her. They all realize it will take a village to reveal the evil elven king's plans to the people and defeat him. Malik and Raenel's protectiveness of Kylin showed in this story. They were also very patient when it came to giving her space and letting her choose who to love. The story's spice got kicked up a notch, and I had to fan myself a few times! WOW! Overall, this is a great segue into book four! I can't wait to see how strong Kylin truly is and how the people around her find their strength, too!
A Mortal Queen: Lightning by S.P Woods is book three in the Mortal Queen series. After the cliffhanger from the last book I was really looking forward to getting into this one. I was eager to see what would happen next for Kylin. While the overall story is good I just felt a disconnect with this book and some parts kind of seemed rushed to me. There was something about the characters that I just couldn’t fully connect with; which was a shame. (This of course could all just be a me thing) That being said though the book really ramps up towards the end, it really has me looking forward to book four. The writing is done well (even though the characters slipped for me) I’m so interested to see how everything will wrap up. I will mention two things; You do need to read these books in order and this does end on a cliffhanger. If you’re a fan of fantasy elements, vampires and shifters then this is a series you should definitely check out.
This book starts off exactly where book 2 left us, with Kylin being captured by the Elven King.
Kylin's character development in this installment was so good! By the end of this book, she was not standing down and was willing to fight for what she believed. I could feel the pressure during this book for her; she had taken on the burden of being the spokesperson for all of the mortals, and she really had a hard time fighting and being fearful of the repercussions. She is also still conflicted about her feelings for the two main men in her life, which is also a huge burden for her.
The ending of this book was an emotional roller coaster! I was crying, then happy, then crying, then overjoyed! This ending was a crazy ride!
I was hoping for a happily ever after, but it looks like we have more to this series! I am very much looking forward to book 4!
My mind is blown with this series! Each book it gets better and better! “A Mortal Queen: Lightning” is jammed packed with action, spice, love, heartbreak. Everything you could every ask for in a book, in a series, is all right here!
I absolutely love this whole series so far. It has made my heart sore then shatter into peices, just to be put back together. The love story is amazingly beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. The action is so detailed that it’s like you are watching a movie in your head. And the spice scenes? Phew..can I say SPICY! I cannot wait for the next book. I’m so sad that it has been left with a cliffhanger.
If you have not read any of “A Mortal Queen” series, you need to pick it up now. I guarantee you will not be disappointed! Beautifully written, *chef’s kiss” hands down! Now I’m gunna run and get the physical copies of this series!
I have been lucky enough to be able to ready all three books so far in this series and each book gets better and better.
Kylin had really grown more and more each book. Now that she had her memories back she finds herself in somewhat of a love triangle. I love Malik and Ranael so much and can't wait to see what happens in the next book as far as the relationship goes. I would be happy if Kylin could have both of them😂
This book made me laugh, cry, scream at my Kindle, and feel many more emotions! I feel like the 🌶 is ramping up. I can't wait for the next book in the series to see how everything turns out!
This book does end on a cliffhanger and you need to read the books in order to know what's going on. Great job S.P. Woods on another great book, you are becoming one of my favorite author's.
Book three does not disappoint! Clearly you need to read books 1 and 2 first. This is not some series that you can just start where-ever you would like. After the dramatic/emotional cliffhanger of book 2, book 3 "Lightning" continues straight into the chaos that has been created. How can one mortal take down a King who has built his kingdom on lies and manipulation?
I've really been enjoying this series by S.P. Woods. I was, somehow, under the impression that this would be a 3 book series... it's not. Clearly this is a 4 book series but I didn't realize it until most of the way through and I just kept wondering how in the world everything was going to get resolved. I will say that this books stops at a very nice spot.
If you like Vampires, Wolf Shifters, Mortals, and Elves with some spice and adventure, check out this series!
Wow! Wow! Wow! It's getting spicy..... This picks up where it left off in book 2: Beast. The more I read the more I want. I honestly could do without Helion but I do understand you have to have a villain. Kylin has become such a force to be reckoned with and she accomplishes the most unattainable tasks. I did have a heart attack in one of the scenes toward the end. I will not say from what because you need to read to find out. All I could do was hang on to the seat of my pants and scream NOOOOOO!! LOL.
If you knew me last July then you know how obsessed I am with this series. Lightning is the third book in A Mortal Queen's series about a human girl, vampire king, elf king and werewolf king. It's very spicy and turned into a why choose romance. The first book, Stolen, youre primarily getting to know the vampire king and elf king but in Beast, you get to know the werewolf king. Lightning picks up right where Beast left off and it's so full of action you won't be able to put it down. I recommend taking notes or highlighting as you read to help remember all the important parts of the story. The whole series has been event after event and I've read every book in around 24 hours. A Mortal Queen is the perfect series to binge read over a long weekend. It's a five star series for me and I want everyone to read it and share in my obsession. The first 2 books have huge cliffhangers and I've been on edge since I finished reading Beast last July. Lightning didn't have as intense as a cliffhanger but it did leave me VERY excited for where the series is going to go in the next book! I can't wait!
Thank you so much S.P. Woods for sharing an advanced copy with me, I'm so thankful to be able to read your books early and share my love for your writing.
I feel like this definitely fed a need I was dying for! I keep my review spoiler free but Kylin’s men are hot 🥵…we’ll leave it at that.
We do start back over with the king of the elves doing what he does best — being a pompous @$$hole. But Kylin holds her head high and pushes through every barrier brought before her and her friends. They set off on a journey seeking one of the most precious things of all [REDACTED SPOILER]. This third installment lays the premise for what I’m expecting to be a thrilling conclusion for this series. Cannot recommend enough for those who love PNR and fantasy romance.
Lightning picked right from where we left Malik, Ranael, and Kylin with a running start! Kylin finds herself back in the claws of King Helion but she isn't going down without a fight. And while she fights on the inside Malik and Ranael work on a plan to get her back to them. The love triangle tension crushed my heart and left me as conflicted as Kylin. They all band together and embark on a dangerous journey to free the innocent in the kings clutches. This series has it all- mortals, werewolves, vampires, dragor shifters, and a hybrid. Sage always does a phenomenal job of making her books immersive, conveying emotions, and the battle scenes are insane with tension!
Third book in the series. So much is happening and I did get confused at times but I still loved it. Kylin continues to show that she will always put others before herself. She may be in a life and death situation but she will do anything to save another. She really has a heart of gold. When it comes to the men in her life that is where some big twists happen. With her memories returned will she have to choose who her heart belongs to? And then there is the elven king that she would gladly end but may have to marry. The story has humans in a world with vampires, shifters and elves. Lots of action and danger as Kylin seems to always be in the middle of it.
Each book in this series gets better and better, adding more development to not only the plot, but the characters. I would have loved to have chapters with the POV of Malik and Ranael, as there has to be so much running through their minds the entire time. Kylin continues to come into her own, while shouldering the burden of what is the right thing to do. The beginning I felt could have been a little cleaned up a bit, as it felt a bit rushed to get to reunion, but I loved the little flashback of what takes place, really adding to how that all concluded. This book definitely dives more into the love triangle going on between the 3, including a rather spicy scene 🥵. The end, while a cliffhanger, I felt it could have been a little more epic (sort of just ended). But I loved the little plot point at the end with the king, which I didn't see coming. I definitely look forward to reading book 4 and how this series concludes!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SERIES. I was lucky to be chosen as an ARC reader for A Mortal Queen: Lightning. It picked up where book two left off. The love triangle had me on the edge of my seat. Kylin is torn between her connection with Ranael and her reemerging feelings for King Malik. The storyline is still thrilling and ripe with danger. The search for Kylin’s lost aunt leads them to make a huge strike at the elven king. The cliffhanger at the end revealed a huge surprise and also left me wishing for the next book in the series. This series is some of the best books I have read this year.
I love Ranael so hard but this book made me fall in love with Malik again. Kylin has definitely had some major character development in this book so I hope she’s done being captured and ready to be her own MORTAL QUEEN! And even though she has definitely made a mess of things, I want to see more of the witch again in the next book.
Ugh, I cannot believe I have to wait for book 4 after binge reading books 1-3.
I need the next book! I read all three books in a 2 day timespan …..This series has been so good and one of my top Fantasy reads of the year! Just like books 1 and 2 I honestly couldn’t put it down! I need book 4 and if you’re just getting into the series you’re in for a wild ride but you’ll fall in love with the characters and fully emerge yourself into this world! I’m really excited for book 4!
I loved AMQ 1 & 2, and 3 did not disappoint! Seeing the continuation of Kylin's relationships with Malik and Ranael while battling Helion and freeing slaves was truly special. No intimate moments were not out of place as it sometimes happens in fantasy.
You felt Kylin's emotions as she was torn between the two men the entire book. Ranael was so patient with her and Malik, being a great friend to both. Malik worked overtime to keep his blood lust and the bond in check. Kylin wanted to surrender to the bond while not losing Ranael. SO MANY EMOTIONS!! Their threesome really makes me hold out hope for a throuple in book 4.
Way to go S.P. for yanking my heartstrings at the very end!! A death and quick ressurrection! Didn't even give me a chance to fully cry before I was cheering with joy!
Thank you S.P. Woods for the ARC read! I greatly enjoyed continuing one of my favorite series!

Short sweet review. Docked a star for the emotional rollercoaster I went through near the end. Another great book in the series though. Can not wait to read the final and find out where it goes and how the story truly ends. I do admit it starts off a little slower than I prefer. But it continues the series nicely from the last book. Questions get answers in this one & the burning question remains of how does it all end? (Spoiler is ends on a cliffhanger)
Literally devastated at how bad this was…I made it 43% and couldn’t do it anymore. Kylin is having sex with Ranael all over the vampire kings castle, but still saying she has these intense feelings for the VK and wants to tell him…but then when she’s with VK doesn’t say anything and goes to find Ranael to mess around with. It was terrible. And somehow sentences and/or paragraphs didn’t flow - like they were copy/pasted and I felt lost or like I missed something.
S.P. Woods has risen the ranks to one of my favorite authors. I have been drawn into this series. She didn’t disappoint with the third installment. I experienced so many emotions while reading this one. I love a book that can make you laugh, cry, angry, frustrated, happy, and energized all in one.
This book picks up where Beast book 2 ended and is even better, with unexpected twists that kept me hooked. I love Kylin's character and her perspective. Malik always makes me blush and rekindles my love for him. The character development is captivating, and I adore the secondary characters, especially Tyllis and Emilie. I hope we get a novella about them! Can’t wait for book four!
A Mortal Queen – Lightning ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book wrecked me — in the best possible way.
A Mortal Queen – Lightning picks up the emotional momentum of the first two books and absolutely runs with it. From the very first chapter, you're hooked. The tension, the heartbreak, the impossible choices... I felt every single moment alongside Kylin, Malik, and Ranael. Watching Kylin’s memories return and seeing the weight of the decision she faces was agonizing — my heart hurt for them.
What made it even more satisfying was finally seeing Kylin accomplish something monumental after everything she’s endured. It felt like a victory not just for her, but for the readers who have loved her from the start.
Also: the spice?? Chef’s kiss. 🔥 Perfectly timed, emotional, and so good I went back and read those scenes twice.
Book three absolutely holds up — if not outshines — the earlier books. But this is definitely a series you have to read in order. If you haven’t picked up A Mortal Queen yet, do yourself a favor and start from book one. You’ll thank me later.
