I’m continuing my chaos goblin ways by reading Book 3 before either Book 1 or 2, which have both been queued up on my Kindle for ages now 😆 so you can trust me when I say Yesterday’s News works really well as a standalone book! I’m sure the enjoyment will go up a million fold if I have read the others, but it is what it is.

🩵 Yesterday’s News was such a cute little book! But note the TWs / CWs : grief and processing grief is such a huge theme, and also body shaming, homelessness, brief mention of a violent death that happened in the past, and also dark humour relating to death by a number of different means (including fire and running someone over). And also an evil boss.

But through this darkness, there’s also humour (not all dark humour!), great banter, a really interesting mystery to be unravelled, and some really sweet and cute scenes in this workplace rivals to lovers / second chance romance set in a print & TV news media outlet. Really enjoyed the small town vibes!!

ARC Review: THIS BOOK. Oh so good. If I didn’t have a toddler this is a book I would’ve finished in one sitting- nevertheless I tore through it! This is the third installment in a series of interconnected, stand alone books- reading the first two isn’t necessary to thoroughly enjoy this novel, but I definitely will be going back and reading those because I need more. The main characters and supporting characters are extremely well written, full of depth and feel *real*. Complex emotions, neurodivergence representation, great banter. This is a slow burning, sensational read!

How do I give this infinity stars??? ♾️⭐️

WOW! This book has me in a chokehold. 🥹🩵 I absolutely ADORED it. I adore Meghan, Chase, their whole team, this big fun Woodvale family and the town. (Including Lenny!)

So, I usually do not like second chance romances because most authors include very immature fighting between main characters and presumed assumptions about how the other character's life still is. But let me tell you- Katie BLEW this second chance romance out of the water!!! There was banter but nothing childish and both characters assumed the other's life had changed (as people's lives do). And their chemistry and healing was just perfection. Thank you Katie for doing a second chance romance right!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This is book 3 in the Woodvale series and is definitely different than the first 2, being that it does not feature teachers. It stars characters who work for the local news. And we still get to see Own, Sarah, Kendall and Mason a lot and it makes my heart SO HAPPY!!!!! So, I HIGHLY recommend reading book 1 and 2 before you read this so you can get all the feelings!!

I loved SO MANY things about this book. Where to start?
1. Meghan and Chase are both emo dorks and I LOVE IT! Every nerdy reference in this book made me feel seen! Chase and his best friend create the first ever Woodvale Comic Con and I am OBSESSED!!
2. I laughed out loud MANY times during this book. True rom-com
3. I loved how Katie showed the misogyny in the world, including the working world, and showed how women are seen/what we have to deal with. This is something we face daily as women and I loved seeing these characters stand up for the women
4. The ghost hunting, the graveyard and spooky elements of this book were so fun. I loved Evelyn and Fannie's story
5. I LOVED Lenny's story.
6. I loved the whole group of friends and coworkers.
7. I LOVE Wanda
8. And of course...I LOVE Meghan and Chase. They are so sweet and kind and supportive of each other. I love that Meghan lets Chase hyper fixate and vice versa. Again, I feel seen through them. Can they adopt me as a friend???

I know this review was ramble-y but I just have so many feelings of joy from this book and had to jot them down!

In this book:
🩵Second Chance Romance
🩵Working with your Ex (Reporters)
🩵Dorky/Emo Main Characters
🩵Ghost Hunting
🩵Healing after parental loss
🩵Small Town
😂Found Family

Thank you Katie for this ARC! All opinions are my own.

ARC (ebook) Review: SPOILER - FREE

I would like to thank the kind author, Katie Cawood, for allowing me to be one of the beta readers for her newest installment in the Woodvale Series. For starters, I should disclaim that I haven't read the other books in the series prior to my reading of this book, but this book was easy to read as a standalone. Even though there's a few characters that have their own storylines in previous books, they don't take anything away from this one. The narrative was focused enough for me to follow.

As far as the story itself, I really enjoyed it. After the announcement of a merger happening with all forms of Woodvale media (Woodvale Times-newspaper; WWTV- tv station; WRBO- radio station), newspaper journalist, Meghan and Chase, a TV news reporter must team up and work together to keep small town news from dying out in the hands of their corrupt CEO. The problem? They dated and broke up years ago. Will they be able to work together and manage their feelings for each other in the process? What will become of Woodvale news? Readers will definitely find out by the end.

My favorite part of any form of media is the characters. With Meghan and Chase, in particular, I can see why they drifted apart prior to the beginning of the story and why things would be tough starting out once they begin working together. Without getting into spoilers, the timeline and trajectory of the progression of their relationship seems believable for the most part. One thing I thought they would do is have a long, deep discussion talking about what made they break up in the first place. The readers will understand why, as we hear from both Meghan's and Chase's POV, but they never sat down and resolved it, really. They just acknowledge the pain and hurt they felt during the events leading up to the breakup (to the readers), but they never hashed it face-to-face, so that part felt unresolved. By the end, it made me worry if that same issue is ever brought up again in the future, would they be able to really fix it for good. That part could've been a bit more developed, in my opinion, but overall, I loved the book. Reading it made me interested into going back and reading the first two books in the series and see what the author does next. Thank you, Katie Cawood for the great read!

If you’re a fan of second-chance romance with a dash of witchy lore and ghost-hunting vibes, Yesterday’s News delivers all that and more!

Meghan and Chase are exes thrown back together after a company merger forces them to collaborate. Meghan is a newspaper reporter with a fascination for history and the dead, while Chase is a news anchor with a ghost-hunting side hustle. Their breakup years ago stemmed from Meghan’s grief over losing her parents and Chase’s inability to support her during that difficult time. Now, three years later, their unresolved tension ignites as they team up to investigate a local witch legend tied to Meghan’s column.

As they dig into the town’s eerie past, Meghan and Chase begin to reconcile their own. The chemistry between them simmers, and they realize how time, growth, and understanding can heal old wounds.

Katie Cawood weaves a story that perfectly balances angst, intrigue, and romance. The unique blend of newsroom drama and paranormal elements adds an entertaining twist, while the themes of grief and personal growth bring emotional depth.

Final Thoughts: A fun, heartfelt story that explores the messy, beautiful process of rekindling love while chasing ghosts—literally!

This story follows Meghan & Chase. Years after their breakup, newspaper journalists Meghan & tv reporter Chase's new CEO throw the two back together on a project forcing them to collaborate. Chase is determined to crack Meghan's icy exterior as the uncover Woodvale secrets & with time the hash out what drove them apart and wonder if they are worth a second chance or not? The banter. The tension. The spice.

Meghan is dealing with losing both her parents and struggling with how to handle hef grief in better ways. I absolutely love that she has this soft side underneath her cold exterior to keep from being hurt again. I absolutely love Chase for just being his true nerdy self no matter what. I love how he tries to help Meghan with her grief and admits when he is wrong. His patient & gentleness with Meghan is beautiful. These two was made to come back together and find their happy ever after with each other.

5/5 recommend this book. Katie is a new to me author and i absolutely love her ability till deal with real life problems in the most respected way possible. Her ability to show emotions and why her characters feel them is so amazing. Absolutely well done.

Katie set the bar high with the first two books in the Woodvale series, and I’m happy to say that Yesterday’s News was just as amazing as the others!

Since I grew up and continue to live in a small town, the small town trope will always hold a special place in my heart. I really appreciated how realistic Woodvale was portrayed, not only in its size but also in the demeanor of its residents. I know how close minded people living in a small town can be and the struggles some go through when they think outside “societal norms”. This wasn’t a major plot line, but it was intricately woven throughout the story and made the setting even more relatable.

I absolutely LOVE a nerdy MMC, and Chase’s interest in Marvel superheroes as well as a fascination with the paranormal literally had me swooning. This was my first second chance romance and I thought there was great character development for Chase and Meghan to show how they’d both grown after their relationship ended three years prior.

While the romance was as sweet and spicy as I had hoped, I think the plot surrounding the Woodvale Times is what really propelled this into a fast read for me! If you enjoy a plot driven romance then this one is definitely for you!

Thank you to BookFunnel and Katie Cawood for a free ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

The Plot:
Meghan and Chase both work for the same news outlet where they have recently been forced to team up to get the most views. Did I mention that they are also exes? Meghan is working on an interesting story delving deeper into the Woodvale Witch while Chase is busy filming ghost hunting content for his YouTube channel. Now they must team up and cover every fluff piece, interview, and tornado recovery story to win the competition.

My Thoughts:
This is a second chance/enemies to lovers romance. Personally, I liked the news subplot more. I think Meghan is a little too mean at the beginning of the story, then they both cave so fast and easily. I didn't feel the spark come back to life through the pages, so this romance didn't really hit for me.
I wanted to hear more about the Woodvale Witch. It had such a promising start and with all the fun clues, I had hopes that there'd be more witchery or secrets with it. I think the best news stories broke in the second half of the book and I enjoyed those. I would have loved to see them take a bit more time and hear more interviews throughout the whole story, rather that trudge through all the fluff pieces at the beginning.
I wanted to like this book more and I see that a lot of people absolutely loved it. That's why I waited to post my review until now. I liked bits and pieces of the story, but as a whole, it just didn't work for me.

I’m officially a Katie Cawood fan for life! Yesterday’s News is my first dive into her work, and wow, I couldn’t have picked a better starting point. This book feels like it was written just for me.

The writing is fresh, authentic, and so incredibly relatable. From the first page, I felt like I was sitting in on real conversations with real people—not characters but friends I’d instantly clicked with. The way the girls talk about sex as just a natural, unapologetic part of who they are? Chef’s kiss. It’s not performative or out of place—it’s just them, and it’s perfect.

Now let’s talk about Chase and Meghan. Adorable doesn’t even begin to cover it. Their chemistry jumps off the page in such a genuine, grounded way that I couldn’t help but root for them from start to finish. Their relationship isn’t drenched in drama for drama’s sake—it’s real, it’s messy, and it’s absolutely swoon-worthy.

This book has it all: heart, humor, and characters you just want to hug (or grab a drink with). If this is Katie Cawood’s standard, I’m 100% hooked. I already can’t wait to devour more of her stories. Yesterday’s News is an absolute must-read. 💕

Story rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (0-5)
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥☄️(0-5) I bump up for public places/outdoor spaces.

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 Second chance, enemies-to-lovers, and workplace romance with forced proximity at the workplace.
🤩 Serious enemies-to-lovers vibes & that need to know why they hate each other so much.
🤩 Chase’s rule not to tease Meghan unless she initiated it. “She was so hot when she was mean to me.”
🤩 All the different news sharing—so entertaining and all the feels. I especially love Woodvale Whispers.
🤩 Talk about all the feels—so much with the combination of sexual chemistry and emotional baggage.
🤩 The library basement during the tornado.
🤩 The workplace plot/drama is captivating. Silas, the boss, is horrible, but I love how it brings out everything about the MCs.
🤩 The care-taking.
🤩 After hours working at the news office building.
🤩 Laugh-out-loud funny with the perfect side character interactions.
🤩 Such clever LGBTQia representation.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 The flashback of the past might have been too much for me. I’m not sure I ever got over it. And I’m not sure I felt their emotional connection as much as their physical sexual connection.

Going to try my best to do no spoilers!!

I’ve been a fan of Katie’s work since the beginning and love supporting a local author! I read Lesson Learned and Love Lessons when they both released and devoured them, loving the characters of Woodvale, Indiana.

Yesterday’s News is the perfect second chance at love-enemies to lovers trope. Getting to go on the journey with Meghan and Chase was magical and you could feel every emotion.

The elements of Meghan and Chase’s breakup and rekindle were raw and real. I felt like I was one of their friends listening to them tell me their story.

Without giving too much away I really enjoyed the towns lore they worked on and the truth they uncovered!

This was definitely my favorite of the series so far and hopefully I can continue to read more about the Woodvale Characters in the future! I love seeing all the character connections throughout the books!

🌶 - Spice Level

Meghan and Chase are forced to work together when the local newspaper and the TV station are combined for their local hometown. They dated 3 years before and broke up. They had worked together on a graves and haunting blog as well. Both Chase and Meghan are then partnered up to cover events. Chase is still not over Meghan and wants his second chance. Meghan is still hurt, but it only takes a few forced proximity moments for her to finally start giving him a chance again as the relationship rekindled.

This second chance love story is very cute. The nerdy, paranormal news caster and newspaper reporter is new to me, but it worked in their favor. Even the cat remembered and wanted Chase back in his life. This was more plot than Spice, but a nice pallette cleanser from my usual dark reads.

Thank you, author, for the ARC!

I was hooked on this book from the very first post I saw about it and while I desperately wanted to read the ARC, I just could not add anymore ARC's to my schedule so I put it on my TBR and snagged it once it released. This book was EVERYTHING I expected and hoped for and I am still as giddy over it after reading it as I was every single time I saw a teaser post about it. I loved all of these characters and their charm, but most of all I loved Chase and the way he loved Meghan. It was sweet and steadfast and just all of the things. I loved the snippets of the newsroom shenanigans and their passion for telling the stories of their town. This was just an overall really fun read with some serious content woven within that brings a level of realism. Plus, I'm always here for a nerdy & dirty MMC!

I started reading Katie’s books last year and let me tell you this book doesn’t disappoint. Yesterday’s News is the third book in the Woodvale series. Yesterday’s News is a second chance romance that follows Chase and Meghan as they navigate a new work environment with the worst possible CEO you could think of. Seriously he needs to be thrown off a cliff.

This book made me laugh and cry because it is so beautifully written. I love Katie’s writing because of how real it is and this book is no different. Every page makes you feel like you are actually there with these characters. Chase is my new book boyfriend. That is my dream man right there. Who doesn’t love an adorable nerd? I cannot wait for the next in the series!!

This was not only a fun romance but it also tackled deep feelings like grief and important topics like corruption. A second chance romance between two small town news reporters forced to team up brings back old feelings. The spice was spicing too in the few intimate scenes provided. I’m excited to go back and read the first two books of this series!

The next time some dummy claims reading romance isn’t political, I will point them to this book. A small town news paper is bought by some old rich man and combined with the TV and radio news which he then attempts to corrupt with his power and money? Yeah babes, it’s ALL political.

Thank you to the author for this ARC!!

Yesterday’s News by Katie Cawood

⭐️Dual POV
⭐️ Second Chance Romance
⭐️Spicy

Second Chance romance and Dual POV are quickly becoming my favorite tropes and Yesterday’s News delivers! Meghan and Chase used to be in love but now she hates him…. Or does she?

I love a couple with a shared history and friend group. How they come back together and fix their messy past is swoon-worthy!

This is the third book in the Woodvale series. It can be read as a standalone but the banter and spice is so good you should definitely check out the rest!

Yesterday’s News will be released on Amazon on November 19! Thank you Katie Cawood for the ARC! 💙

I really enjoyed this book. It's my first Katie Cawood novel & I will definitely be reading more. Yesterday's News had me laughing and crying in turns. I enjoyed all the snarky banter among the characters. Chase & Meghan keep the slow-burn tension going and they're easy to cheer for as a couple. Adding in a nasty boss, some ghosts, and a historical journal takes this into five star reading.

This book deals heavily with the topic of grief in a candid and sensitive way so be aware of that when you decide to read this.

This was like very very cute. It’s a second chance romance, after Meghan and Chase broke up years ago due to grief, miscommunication and misunderstandings, but never really let go of each other. They find themselves forced to work together for work and the closeness brings them back together.

I’m not big into ghost / paranormal stories so the entire storyline around it didn’t really do anything for me, but everything else just ticked all boxes of cuteness and had me smiling at them. I’d just read the first two books before this one and this is just a nice good series.

*I received an ARC of this book, this is my honest opinion*

Thank you to Katie Cawood for the ARC of this! I really enjoyed this book. One thing I love about Katie’s books is that it’s not just cheesy and fluffy romances, there’s actual story lines like this one. Though I do have to say, I miss the characters being teachers and their lives at school (as a teacher myself), though I did like them still making appearances in this story. And I did like the uniqueness of this story with them working for a newspaper and the whole witch interest as well, it was different than other stories I read before and kept my interest. This series is a hidden gem and I look forward to the next two to follow it!

Hilarious banter prevails in this rivals to lovers, second chance workplace romance. Two employers merge, so former lovers Meghan, a journalist, and Chase, a reporter, find themselves back in each other’s lives. Not only are the romance tropes spot-on and intermingled in a well-paced plot, I appreciated the first person, dual PoV and the addition of workplace gossip and drama. I appreciate the author giving me the opportunity to read and review! This is the third book in the Woodvale series, but I had no issues reading as a standalone and am definitely going back to read the first two.

I have been a fan of Katie since her debut and her writing keeps getting better.
If anyone doesn’t like second chance romance this book might just change their mind.
I do enjoy a contemporary romance with the right, appropriately placed, amount of pop culture and social media references; this was one of them. I didn’t feel bombarded by memes, GenZ slang and brand names.
I live for a green flag man, and Katie writes them well. Chase is a wonderful partner and gave Owen and Mason a run for rheir money.
I can’t wait for more of Katie’s books.

I loved how the plot wove together mystery, small-town charm, historical intrigue, newscasting, drama... Add in heartfelt moments, tactful depictions of grief, love and friendship, witty banter, plenty of nerdy references, cuteness, and (last but not least)… the SPICE. Amazing! ✨ Oh, and that first kiss after the slow burn was totally magical! 🥰

This was a fun read! I enjoyed the pace of the story, it felt like it moved pretty fast while reading. I didn’t know how I was going to like the romance trope but I ended up getting into it more than I thought I would! Although it wasn’t a revolutionary read, I did enjoy the character development of the main characters growing individually and together :)
