Fairly basic information that most people could probably get to on their own if they journaled about how to slow down. The book has some great quotes but written in a mechanical style, made me wonder whether it was written by AI.
I am sorry I was so ridiculously, um... slow in getting this review written. I guess I was doing too good of a job in putting the book into practice.
All joking aside, this is a good book but not a great book. Damon Zahriades is one of those typical "life coaches" who churns out 2-3 books a year that are little more than a rehash that what virtually every other life coach spits out in their copy/paste body of literature. I worked with a teacher like him for a while. She wrote a book a year on how to improve your life... and yet her life was a wreck. Now, I know nothing about this author's personal life. I am just saying I am cynical of books like these. They make for decent reads, but either it is 90% AI or else DZ is not following his own advice. Maybe he should slow down, focus a bit more on creativity and personal application of his ideas, and stop emphasizing quantity over quality.
As for me, I am not slowing down in my reading. There are some good reminders and ideas here. Even if I have heard most of them a hundred times, sometimes it is good to read something that puts then in the forefront of my mind. But my next "self help" read is from someone who has actually accomplished something in his life. But don't expect that review tomorrow. After all, I am practicing the art of going slow. Perhaps not in my reads, but certainly in my reviews.
Life is hectic, and our culture (in the US) is to “work harder, not smarter”. Damon’s book Art of Going SLOW is desperately needed. In a culture of being on 24 hours, sleep something you fill in when there is time, and “me time” is when you retire (which increasingly people are not able to do) there is no surprise anxiety levels, burnout, and depression rates seem to keep rising. Simple, honest suggestions and techniques to slow things down, and importantly, take control of your life – and be more productive in the process.
In this fast-paced, selfie world we find ourselves in, the topic of slowing down and enjoying the ride has become increasingly important for many of us. If you find yourself rushing around, checking off to-dos and wondering where the time goes, this book is your guide. Like his other books, this one is clearly written and offers lots of practical advice. The exercises at the end of each chapter in Section 2 give you simple and actionable tips to implement the material.
Might be a good start for those who have zero background on slow living but since I've read about this practice from various articles and other sources, this book can then be considered a check and balance.
I enjoyed this book because it spoke to something that I have been trying to achieve. The ability to work at a reasonable pace without excessive anxiety. It emphasized the need to enjoy activities versus racing through them. Overall, positive.
I should have rated this book as soon as I finished it, because I've now forgotten most of what I read other than going slow, which should say it's not a very inspiring read, but it feels a bit contrasting since I had read morning makeover right before this. which includes at the end several celebrities Morning Routine and quite a few of them are packed with activities. To read this and tell you not too take on too many activities felt a little jarring
