This story is so full of twists, turns and fabulous characters I could hardly put it down! This is the first book I've read where I actually was on the hero's side from the very beginning, despite what appearances were showing. The intense, searing emotions in this story had my heart rate doubling. It was heartbreaking reading about Jalal's life being played out almost behind his back by 2 women most important to him. Neverthelesss, there it was and it was crushing! The intensity and tenderness imbued in Olivia's characters is her trademark - and I LOVE it !! A highly recommended read.
Lujayn Morgan and Prince Jalal Aal Shalaan had carried on a secret affair for four years, until she walked out and married his wealthy best friend. Now that her husband is dead, with only a touch, she succumbs to Jalal and they share an unforgettable night proving their passion is still alive. In the morning she pleads with him to leave her alone and never try to contact her again. But he soon learns he cannot for she has been hiding his child from him. Now he has to prove to her he wants to claim her as his wife, not for his son or for the kingdom but for her. This is another emotional masterpiece brought to us by Olivia Gates. Unknowbeknownst to him he and his family have inflicted a lot of pain on Lujayn for which he is deeply ashamed of. Because of her false assumptions she made a lot of unwise decisions that wronged Jalal. But his unwavering bellief in her has her realizing his love is genuine, even when he believes her over his mother. Olivia Gates also made me realize again how much fun the banter between the three heroes from her Pride of Zohayd was. She also tied in her series Throne of Judar beautifully.
Those who know me know that I love a good sheikh book and that I think that OG is one of the best in writing about them, but I am sorry to say this one just didn't hit the mark.
It was just a bit too busy, it was well over the top with all the drama and it just didn't seem like a sheikh book. A lot of the drama wasn't fully explained especially the bit about Lujayn's marriage to another guy. I am so sick and tired of hearing about his mother, the wicked and much disliked exiled queen that I think it is now time that Ms Gates disposed of that character once and for all!
I am hoping that Rashid's story lives up to what it promises to be and salvages the series.
4.5 🌟 This was a reread, one of the first books I read by Olivia Gates. I liked the story, I lowered the rating only because heroine's stubborness, even almost at the end of the book 🙄🤷🏻♀️. Jalal was a great hero in my opinion, I liked him.
For the second book in the Desert Knights series, there are secrets to discover and devious manipulations that must be overcome before genuine happiness can come into the lives of its spirited couple. Olivia Gates once again delivers when creating a sheikh hero who conveys alpha tendencies yet can be brought to his knees by one female.
Since he believes the only woman that he has ever loved is gone from his life forever, Prince Jalal Aal Shalaan wants to be the next king of Azmahar as it will give him a reason to live. He had an affair with Lujayn Morgan, yet she unexpectedly left him and even married someone else. When the man dies, Jalal gives her time but eventually wants to know what went wrong in their relationship and confronts her. Though they spend a night together, the next day brings Lujayn back to reality and she tells him to stay away from her.
After many months, Lujayn comes to Azmahar and Jalal is stunned when he learns she had his son. Although he once thought becoming king would make his life complete, he now knows there is something even more vital to him. However, convincing Lujayn that she is the crucial element in making his future a worthwhile one will take much careful planning.
If Olivia Gates writes a book about a sheikh and the woman who loves him, it is guaranteed that the moving story will be overflowing with passion. In the Desert Knights series, emotional dilemmas continuously crop up and play havoc with the futures of Jalal and Lujayn. Often when they come to think their relationship may have a chance of thriving, a new problem arises to cause doubts and make trust between them questionable. Ms. Gates always draws me into the personal lives of her main couple, and the predicaments Jalal and Lujayn must face are particularly dramatic since so many aspects of their lives are interlaced with other individuals. What these two believe to be the absolute truth may not actually be factual, as revelations are learned during candidly honest discussions. My heart went out to them when several of these disclosures are brought to light, because their inner beliefs are totally incorrect about past incidents and resulted in numerous misconceptions about the other. Things never go smoothly for the hero and heroine in one of the Harlequin Desire stories by Olivia Gates, and there are problems for Jalal and Lujayn to triumph over from the very start of THE SHEIKH’S CLAIM until everything is satisfyingly concluded. Their sex life is the one place where they can agree upon any action to be taken, and these two definitely have a vivid imagination plus their desire is fueled by uncontrollable lust during a few instances. There is another book in the Desert Knights series, and who will be the new king of Azmahar is not certain at all. THE SHEIKH’S CLAIM is passionate, intriguing and constantly emotional.
The Sheikh's Claim has it all. Fantastic, emotional writing like no other, matched hero and heroine who strike a lightning storm off each other from start to finish, very good reasons and rationalizations for the misunderstandings and why it wouldn't have worked in the past between them, and an actual and highly interesting plot in the background set among a very rich setting and secondary characters. All in all, another masterpiece that Olivia Gates manages to compose in the boundaries of what should be a simple, small book, but in her capable hands becomes memorable every time! And now I can't wait for Rashid's story and The Sheikh's Destiny!!!!
Too much over the top & drama and I had a hard time following what was going on. I also felt that the heroine marriage wasn't explained, did she love her husband? Was it a real marriage? Heroine had been involved with the hero for four years, but well they never cleared the air, she was a model and her mom a servant of the hero's evil mother. She thought she was his dirty secret and felt degraded every time she was with him, he kept her a secret because of his mother, so to get out she married his sweet best friend, who turned out married her so that he could protect his legacy. Two years into the marriage he died(cancer), he came to her, they had sex and she told him to leave, then it is kind of two years later again. I found both of them immature, it seemed they only argued and had sex. She had his son as well and didn't tell him since she had too many misconceptions about him and their relationship so did he. It is kind of alluded that she was the only one he had been with in the eight years they had met. I just found the drama of it too much, a lot of it was rehashed, his evil mom interfering and making life hell for everyone. I never felt connected to the characters and found the book a drag so much so I was kind of skimming stuff.
Olivia Gates is sooo talented. I love how she builds the relationships in her books. You feel what the characters feel and root for both. You'll want to read all of her books after reading one.
Wow this book had drama on overdrive. I felt myself wanting to cry at the end. Some people are just to evil to live. Good job to the writer. Will we ever find out who becomes King???
It was one train wreck of a relationship that he treated her like a whore even though she was a virgin and for 4 years she let him until she almost destroyed herself in the process. He was an total four letter word. I could have started a hate club with this guy and hired a hit man to kill him!!! He does redeem himself a little but I still did not like that it took a baby for him to come to senses. after the way he treated her and the things he said to her ho could she just drop her drawers and fall for him all over again. She asked for it however letting him get away with the hobble treatment for 4 whole years!!! Omg I will try to avoid this author in the future if these are her typical hero and heroine. She had no character at all I like some spirit in my heroine not some wimpy woman who lets everyone get the better of her. Two star is way too generous in my mind. However the writing was good as I was mad and it helped me complete my training goal in record time.
3.5 stars. As always, Gates delivers with the scorching sex scenes, opening with one of hate/revenge sex, but I found this one harder to get into than others I've read.
Part of it was time-jumpy - we start with the hate sex, almost on top of her husband's coffin, two years after Lujayn left Jalal (and IMMEDIATELY married his once-best friend?), which was after Jalal and Lujayn had had a secret "thing" going on for four years - and then the story picks up two years after that (the hate sex which resulted in a secret baby).
It is (somewhat) easier to believe that the baby could have been hidden, since Lujayn is in America and Jalal is in Azmahar (or sometimes, Zohayd, both fictional Arabian kingdoms), but still...
As always, Gates does an excellent job of sprinkling in Arabic phrases and giving the (English) reader the translation. The passion between these two characters carries well throughout the novel, but at the end I didn't care whether Jalal's evil mother interrupted the wedding, and I should have.

Unquestionably, this H was using h; he may have planned to marry her or some such b/s but he did use her .. he was also very oblivious to the damage he inflicted on her ... also, the H's has a truly cruel mother who manipulates the h; a lot but H remains blind there as well He doesn't take any prizes but h does; she is strong although I don't agree with her hiding their baby from him ... Another okay read for me ....
In true Harlequin style, this book was filled with drama. Although I thought that plot was good, I felt like the conflict between the two main characters just dragged on and on for the majority of the story. Once again, the heroine had a terrible name...Lujayn.
The Start Had Me Thinking OG Had Let Me Down On A Good Read. The Start Was Slow And Introduced So Many Characters I Almost Gave Up. But The H And h Had Sooo Much Chemistry It Gusted From The Pages. Great Story.
Sorry but this was over-written, melodramatic tosh. I’ve rarely encountered so mush purple prose or crowded plot elements. The characters were cardboard cut-outs.
This was a DNF for me. Sorry but this was simply not my cup of tea.
That's more like it.
Nyam, nyam. Jadi ga sabar baca buku ketiganya, ada apa sih sebenernya si Demon Queen dan Rashid? Yuk kita baca lanjutannya
This novel was filled to the top with drama. So much so, it was too busy to even concentrate on reading correctly. I was just frustrated with it! I usually like the sheikh/desert prince books but this one made me partially dislike it. I just couldn't get into it and I thought about killing the book half way into it.
Read on Kindle. I haven't cared for Olivia Gates books lately and have thought about not reading them anymore. But I actually liked this one. Can't wait for the next.
