The Basilisk's Creed #2

The Basilisk's Creed, Volume Two

Rate this book
Dear diary...and anyone else who will listen:

Tonight, I met the man of my dreams.

Literally.

***

Whoever said living in California was glamorous and easy-going lied through their fucking teeth. I guess I can blame reality TV for that pervasive B.S. Maybe it was good thing my old man banned television at home for all the years he was alive, after all. I probably would’ve been even more deluded than I was when I’d moved up here from Arkansas three months ago.

Looking back, I’m not even sure why I did it; why, of all the places I could’ve chosen to start a new life, I picked San Francisco: one of the most expensive places in the world to live. I don’t even know anyone one here. Heck, I’d never even visited the city before my move.

Still, I’m determined to make it here, to make something of myself. And that means I have no time for distractions of any kind—especially guys.

But then, he comes along; the sexiest, strongest, most handsome, most intimidating, and most powerful man I’ve ever seen.

He’s absolutely gorgeous, with eyes that seem to burn right through my soul and the most charming smile in existence, and his allure, his entire being, is simply magnetic.

He’s impossibly beautiful and just…ugh, perfect. He’s perfect. He’s everything every woman—and possibly quite a few men—wants, including me.

What I’m not prepared for, though, is how much he wants me, too.

However, there are three problems.

One: He’s not a man.

Two: I can only see him in my dreams.

And three: He commands an army of soul reapers.

And, apparently, that’s just the beginning…

Eme (pronounced "Emmy", like the award. Lol) is an unconventional storyteller (and a typical cat-and-dog-loving, animation-obsessed weirdo) who has several sarcastic, upbeat, and severely vulgar imaginary friends who simultaneously piss her off and make her feel normal. She writes about said imaginary friends a lot—mostly because they never seem to shut the hell up.

She's addicted to Family Guy, American Dad, Korean dramas, Japanime, and Pandora (the online radio site, not the evil box), drinks an ungodly amount of Red Bull at any given time, wants to marry Seth MacFarlane's voice at some point, and occasionally eats bacon and popcorn together (^_^).

You can keep up with Eme and her unconventional life at www.emestrife.com. You can also chat with her on Facebook, chirp away on Twitter, or just shoot her good old-fashioned email at eme@emestrife.com. She’s always eager to hear from you, so don’t be shy. Drop a line!

Bring on volume 3

I absolutely loved vol. 1 and vol.2 is no different. I have always loved unique paranormal stories, and what can be more unique than a grim reaper falling in love? I am waiting, impatiently mind you, for vol.3 to get here. so please hurry, please? (see? I said please twice. -enter grinning!-)

We get to see a bit more of Eli and Matt's relationship grow in Volume Two of The Basilisk's Creed. We also get to see a bit more behind all the craziness that is happening in the world. How is Eli involved in the catastrophes? I don't know the answer, but I can't wait to find out! Volume 3 here I come! :)

Goes down as another off my 2017 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book set in a different country. Well this book starts just as the last one left off with Eli being woken up by that dam alarm clock. She may be feeling a bit unsure about what may or may not have been happening in her dream but that didn’t mean she wanted to wake from it early. Especially when things were just starting to heat up.

Loved Eli’s back and forth questioning after she wakes up about what happened in her ‘dream’ and how she should feel about it. How she should and how she does are two different things. It’s like she is trying to talk herself out of her own bodies’ reaction to Matthiel. Her mind is saying ‘he’s a reaper, stay away’ but her body is saying ‘go back to sleep and find him!’ I know which one she really wants to listen to though even if she is a bit scared of it. A way to distract her mind from blue eyes that want to draw her back in is to keep busy and head to work – easier said than done. She works as a custodian at a high-end club called Rubies but even there strange things are happening around her and I’m getting the impression they will only continue. Nothing is by chance it seems.

So Matthiel is trying hard to figure out what just happened. He can’t decide if she was real or not with how quickly his kitty-cat vanished before his eyes. If that wasn’t enough to make him feel unsettled then the news he gets from three of his top Golden Reapers that appear shortly after sure will. Seems that they have been summoned to the Alchemoni – the realm of the highest Reaper order – to talk to the elders about a shift that has happened. It seems this shift has affected the balance of alchemy and power where lower level reapers are now able to posses the powers of higher golden ones. You can imagine that tensions would be high at a meeting like this and when a scribe is brought forward to pretty much give them a history lesson you can see their patience running thin. This scribe pretty much explains the order of how things are run and how the shift is going to mess everything up and break their sacred creed. The saying ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ comes to mind with the elders way of thinking. Time for a change is coming whether they like it or not, so they best be prepared for it.

Well now the ball has started rolling. Oh how I was dying for them to bump into each other. Everything happens for a reason and its up to Matthiel to figure out how it connects to Eli – his Kitty-Cat who he really wants to make purr. His realisation at the end is funny, like a ton of bricks has fallen on him when things click into place. Leads nicely into the next where fingers crossed they meet again. Only this time I want her awake, even if she was having fun while asleep. Might be another cliff-hanger but it makes you want to jump straight into the next.

I received this ARC from the author for my honest review.

I honestly was not a fan of the first book. But in reading this one it's turning into a good story. It has a story line unlike any other. I'm interested to see what is going to happen next as well as to see how the reapers solve the problem that is occurring. At this time I'm actually looking forward to reading the 3rd installment. I would recommend this series with the disclosure to not get frustrated after reading the first book.

The story just keeps getting better and more intense. Along with his soldiers he commands they are informed by the elders that there has been a shift between their realm and earth. Not only dose Matt as commander have to put a team together to figure out who is behind this shift and stop it but now he is wondering if the human he met earlier his kitty Kat in danger. Once again your left hanging out to dry and wanting more

This is the second book in the series. I'd give this an 8/10 on my grading scale.

I really enjoyed how the book went into more detail about what reapers are. I learned more about the hierarchy and that they actually are a part of our world. Meaning that Eli is not crazy!

We learn a little bit more about Eli. She works at a club I think as a custodian is what I got from this section. It's high end and she feels out of place. But the majority of the book is from Matthiel's perspective.

Basically the world is going to shit because someone gave powers to non reapers and lower class reapers. So the pace is kicked into high gear in this section!

What I thought was interesting:
-Learning more about the reapers and Matthiel
-The fact that there are apparently many universes that the reapers can travel to at whim
-The plot of the world ending

What I thought was slightly odd:
-Eli is a custodian I'm pretty sure, unless I read it wrong, and she feels the need to look nice at her job...but if she's a custodian no one really pays attention to janitors. So there's no need for her to look all fancy.
-We jump from learning the world is possibly ending to the Atlantic Ocean disappearing...like how??? Are the fish gone? Or are they just in the void that used to have water gasping for breath now.
-There's no indication of who or what is responsible for it. I know that we shouldn't know at the beginning, but they should have some sort of evidence or leads to go off on. Not just: hey let's form an army and go storm around until we kill the responsible party..haha

Some speculations I have for the next part. Eli is saved by Matthiel, because reapers will think for some reason she's responsible for this rift. Eli is either some sort of reaper or accidentally got reaper dust sprinkled on her. (not sure what makes a reaper a reaper haha)

I really liked how the action kicked into high gear in this section and now there's more than just an odd dream experience keeping me hooked into reading the rest of this series. I definitely recommend continuing if you're at all intrigued to find out what happens with Eli, Matthiel, and the end of the world!

So, I finally finished the first one, and WOW, just wow. I have always love paranormal or fantasy book, so I feel great about this story. In this one we see the relationship between Eli and Matt grow, so that's really exciting. I only have a question, when are we going to know how is Eli involve in all this catastrophes? Hopefully next one can give me some answers about this one.

Wow! I loved the first volume but i love the second more. I love cross over of the two worlds/ universes.
I'm so intrigued as to how the reapers will deal with the shift and if they will discover Eli. I'm hoping book 3 will share more romance/ scenes together with Eli and Matthiel. Loving this series of volumes.

This is the second part of a three part series. The story of Eli, a young woman who has developed some interesting powers, and the hot reaper Matt continues. The Atlantic Ocean has turned to wine, pigs are flying and Merfolk are dying. Will Eli's man of her dreams (literally) find her and put the world to rights? I can't wait to find out. I've already started the next volume.

This was a wonderful continuation of the first volume. The pace at which she has set her novels is perfect for the unfolding story. I have also loved the contrast of the characters that I have seen and continue to want to read more and more about them as I learn new things. The author has put a wonderful world and story together and I hope she continues to do so throughout the books.

Though I much preferred the way part 1 ended with the humorous alarm clock I have to say this was a good read and it give you more incite into what Matthies is and what he does. This part ends in a dun dun dun moment though I have to say I wish he had seem Emi at the end because it would have been a reaffirmation of the fact that he is not insane. Heading to the next part to see just what the ending of this one means for Emi....
