En jul att minnas

Rate this book

The best part was the elderly, gay couple. It honestly made me so emotional and I’m sure I will remember their story forever.

Second read: Even better the second time around. I picked up on all the little clues I'd missed the first time.

What a wonderful, wonderful story! Every new book Milly Johnson writes is a total joy to read and savor.

Unlike all those book blurbs that shout about heartwarming, feel-good stories but turn out to be disappointingly sicky-sweet and silly, this book is TRULY heartwarming and feel-good with marvelous characters (a sort of ensemble cast of 6), romance, lots of Milly's best snarky dialogue, and a bit of magic thrown into the mix as well. Per usual, Johnson handles some tough subjects with grace, understanding, and humor so you may get a bit choked up at times but it's SO worth it. AND yes, I'm gushing but get over it people, I'm a total Milly Fan Girl! 😁❤

There was so much to take in that I'm going to go back and read it again to pick up on all that I missed the first time around.

The one thing that has really helped we through this crazy year of madness especially now the colder and darker nights are drawing in is this year’s festive releases and believe me I think this is my favourite year of festive novel releases since I have started reviewing. One author we can always rely on when it comes to a jolly good festive novel that will bring a bag laughs with it is none other than Milly Johnson and her new release, I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day is a fabulous festive delight.
As a freak snow storm reaps havoc to many travellers plans this Christmas an eclectic mix of characters are brought together as they seek shelter and land upon Figgy Hollow. With no hope of being on their way for Christmas the group waste no time in getting to know each other and get stuck into preparing for Christmas celebrations in the sleepy little Inn.
I have to admit I was a little nervous when starting this novel because having so many main characters is something that I sometimes struggle with in novels but I was relieved that there were no blurred lines between the characters they were all developed really well and I never got muddled up with who was who and I loved each and everyone of them. All 6 characters had completely different personality traits and they all have their stories to tell from matters of the heart to troubled upbringings and health matters. There was something about Charlie that reminded me of Christopher Biggins with his uplifting, flamboyant and bright nature, he was a very wise man who had a heart of pure gold. His partner Robin balanced his character out and his love for Charlie was easy to see through his caring ways. Mary was a gentle character who I was desperate for her to have her love reciprocated and see her come alive. Bridget was a complex character who really touched my heart. She is a strong, confident, fiery and successful woman on the outside but when we delve deeper, we see why she is the way she is and that her determination is a result of her childhood. Luke is a successful entrepreneur thanks to his ex but as his life moves forward it is time to try and let go of his past. Jack was a character who I wanted to shake the most, he was so blinded to what was waving under his nose!
This is definitely one of those books that will take you on an emotional journey as we begin to create bonds with our characters and we will have our hearts warmed with the little Christmas celebrations they create from getting merry on traditional tipples and filling their bellies with mince pies and chocolate, we laugh with the characters but around the corner we also will have our hearts broken so keep those tissues to hand.
Milly Johnson always weaves a hint of magic into her novels and this was certainly the case with this novel. As I was curled up on the sofa reading the last few pages of this novel I didn’t want it to come to an end, I still feel like we have so much to see with these characters so I do hope that Milly will revisit them in future novels. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day should be in every bookworm’s stocking this Christmas.

Book Reviewed on www.whisperingstories.com

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day is a beautiful book, both on the outside and inside that is perfectly festive for this time of year. The story surrounds six very different people who all are after something this year, whether it is a divorce, to be noticed, or to have a wonderful Christmas with a loved one.

The six people, in three couples, all end up in a small village called Figgy Hollow (nice Christmassy name) after a snowstorm blows in and makes their journeys impossible. Soon to be divorced Bridget is the first to arrive in the village which looks abandoned and after numerous door knocking decides her only option is to break into the local inn and wait for the storm to pass. Not long after she is joined by the others.

The story gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling and certainly made this Grinch get in the holiday spirit. It is like a festive cheer wrapped in a glorious novel, best read with a roaring fire, a warm blanket, and lashings of hot chocolate.

The characters were all interesting to get to know and they had their ups and downs as well as some humorous moments too. They went through a range of emotions and it was nice to see such friendships as well as forgiveness being made. I also loved that they had a local radio station playing Christmas music to keep them company too.

This is one festive book you don’t want to miss. It is very British, from our strange weather to our sayings and tiny hamlets in the middle of nowhere. Plus our never forgetting of the hurricane of 1987 that we were assured would never happen (I was only nine at the time and remember it vividly).

I will never forget this book and how it made me feel. It is delightful and I adore it and everything it holds deep inside.
Figgy Hollow Inn - what an enchanting place to be holed up in and especially at Christmas time! It sucked me in and I felt as if I was there: seeing and feeling what Bridge, Mary, Luke, Jack, Robin & Charlie got up to and were going through; the emotions they were feeling. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday has exactly the right amount of ingredients that make this story into a special one that I will treasure. I would love this to be made into a Film. A wonderful Christmas Film, one that I would look forward to watching every year without fail, as I do with 'The Holiday.' This book is full of fun, friendship, hope, secrets, forgiveness, and much more, and I loved every scene; from the real laugh-out-loud moments, to the overwhelming, touching moments. The whole story is very well written and from the heart. Sensitive parts could not have been written any better, nor with anymore thought, it was absolutely perfect. I liked the characters, each with their own story to tell, but I loved Mary and Charlie and had I been in the Inn with them in, I would have interacted with them the most. I highly recommend this book and it is perfect for any time of year, not just around Christmas. A warm, cosy, hot chocolate hug of a book! ❤️ Thank you to the author for a magical, heartwarming read x

What a wonderful story. I really don't know where to begin trying to do this justice. In fact I think you should just go and read this book, especially if you love a Christmas book, or just about anything by Milly Johnson.

You don't need the review, just take my word for it, this is Milly Johnson at her best and it has quite a different feel from her previous Christmas novel, and well they are both fabulous.

An inn in Figgy Hollow becomes a safe haven for 6 people in a ridiculously snowstorm that leaves them all a bit stranded. Except Bridget had to break into it, the whole village seems to be abandoned, and although there is a note saying there is a Christmas day booking and its got a fully stocked kitchen, there is no sign of a landlord.

There is a rather charming local radio station which loved playing classic Christmas music and had one person running it for what sounded like very few listeners.

So its 6 people but 3 pairs of people. Mary and Jack who are boss and PA, Robin and Charlie who are a delightful married couple, and Bridge and Luke who were trying to get together before they got stranded to sign their divorce paperwork.

Over the course of a few days of being snowed in, they become like a bit of a family and is was just such a cosy and loving time. We really get to know their different personalities and Charlie and Robin are easily my favourite.

Even more so once something they hadn't mentioned becomes known to the group, at which point the story took a more emotional turn. There are all manner of ups and downs in this and was just a pleasure to read it.

I spent the day curled up on the sofa, with this story and read it in three main bursts, it would have been one sitting but hardbacks are heavy, so needed to give my wrists a rest, but my mind was in Figgy Hollow whenever I wasn't reading.

Incredibly enjoyable, with a whole lot going on, I loved every second of it.

Thank you to EDPR for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Ihana!

P.s voisipa kuunnella radio Briania. 🫣

It’s nearly Christmas and it’s snowing, hard. Deep in the Yorkshire Moors nestles a tiny hamlet, with a pub at its heart. As the snow falls, the inn will become an unexpected haven for six people forced to seek shelter there…

Mary has been trying to get her boss Jack to notice her for four years, but he can only see the efficient PA she is at work. Will being holed up with him finally give her the chance she has been waiting for?

Bridge and Luke were meeting for five minutes to set their divorce in motion. But will getting trapped with each other reignite too many fond memories – and love?

Charlie and Robin were on their way to a luxury hotel in Scotland for a very special Christmas. But will the inn give them everything they were hoping to find – and much more besides?

A story of knowing when to hold on and when to let go, of pushing limits and acceptance, of friendship, love, laughter, mince pies and the magic of Christmas.

Milly Johnson did it again with a great chick-lit book. If I want to read a heart warming female power chick-lit I know to read one of her books. Plus bonus, it will get you in the Christmas spirit!

All the characters have great stories and you are rooting for all of them but the common theme is love and doesn't love and Christmas come hand and hand?

The great thing about this book is it got me wanting (more than I already do) to read Jane Austen's books, I know I know she is a classic and I should have read her books years ago.

The only negative thing I will say is that this book was just a little too long for me but honestly that's it.

A lovely escapist Christmas read & one with great heart. It was rather far fetched in places & therefore hard to take seriously..... but perhaps that was the point. Some lovely underlying messages & I enjoyed the Austen references.

Six people get lost in a snowstorm in Yorkshire a couple of days before Christmas and they all end up at a deserted pub where they spend Christmas together. If you want a cosy Christmas book, this is a great read with both laughter and sadness.
It made me very nostalgic for an English Christmas. If you’re not English some of the Christmas traditions described might not resonate but that shouldn’t spoil your enjoyment.

A festive, tinsel-wrapped, hug-in-a-book.

I’m about a year late to the (Christmas) party reading this fabulous book, I’m so glad I finally did.

I was hooked from the start. The six characters are so likeable and each has their own individual personality. Milly Johnson’s fabulous sense of humour shines throughout, particularly in the character of Luke.

I laughed, I (ugly) cried (more than once), I absolutely adored everything about I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day. I slowly savoured the last few chapters because I genuinely didn’t want it to end. It’s a heartwarming, poignant, uplifting tale of friendship and love.

I’m going to visit Figgy Hollow again next Christmas - looking forward to it already!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

This was a wonderful Christmas story that will impact everyone who reads it.

Three couples are trying to reach their destinations, but A snowstorm comes up so they need to find a place to spend
,the night. They each find an
Inn in the small town of FIGGY HOLLOW.

The town is deserted, and there is nobody at the Inn.. So 1 of them breaks into the building and Checks it out......... As the other show up, they decide to start a fire in the fire place. They make this place they're home for the next 3 days or so, and they have wonderful feast and wonderful talks that will help each person find their place in their life.

Oh my goodness, I adored this book! I wasn't ready for another Christmas story but BorrowBox had other ideas and I'm now grateful for this! There was so much to enjoy about this story which wasn't all love, laughter and mince pies....although there was plenty of that. The 'inn' they stayed in was too far fetched and unnecessary for me to have been written that way which stopped it being 5 stars but I know a lot of people will find it perfectly magical for a festive novel. My ❤ belonged to Charlie and Robin. And I must give kudos to the author for linking in so beautifully Persuasion...My favourite novel of all time.

I don’t want to get back to reality, said Robin inwardly. He felt protected here in this odd little inn. It was as if it was enchanted, like the Beast’s castle when Belle walked in and found all the luxury food waiting for her. He wouldn’t have been at all surprised if clocks and candelabras had started dancing around the room singing “Be Our Guest.”

In reading the description of this book and right up to about the 20% mark, I thought I knew where this one was going to go. It starts out as a fairly typical Milly Johnson. She really likes to have 3 stories going at once. In this one, 3 couples get lost during a terrible snowstorm two days before Christmas and end up together in a deserted but charming inn (Which is magical. Of course.) One couple, once passionately in love, is meeting to sign their divorce papers after years of acrimony. They are tired of fighting, have new partners, and just want to move on with their lives. Couple number two is the head of a large company who is accompanied by his unappreciated PA who has been in love with him for years. The last couple is a very happy gay couple who have been together for over 30 years.

I settled down to enjoy the journeys of at least several characters who had to learn, grow and break out of self-destructive patterns in order to find fulfillment and happiness. Of course, finding happiness would also mean finding true love with the obvious person as well. Well, all did not go according to plan. I am happy that Milly has grown out of her usual formula that all of or most of her early books incorporate, as delightful as most of them were. It became pretty obvious pretty early on, that the love stories were not going to follow the usual romantic comedy playbook. For one thing, Two halves of the prospective couples were so unlikable, almost toxic, that I was rooting for the people they would naturally be paired up with to run far and fast in the opposite direction. To make it more confusing, One of the prospective love interests was already in a very happy and healthy relationship albeit “off-screen”. So It was not predictable how all this was going to play out, romantically speaking.

Don’t worry. There are happy endings in this one and a love story or maybe two by the end. But it does not go how you think it would at the beginning. Turns are taken and there is some suspense up to the final climax. And that is a good thing. Once again Milly delivers a satisfying, touching, and amusing story. As always, it was very English. The title is based on a popular British Christmas song that is virtually unknown in the United States. And a dose of Jane Austen-love never hurts.

I pre-ordered the audiobook of this title because it has a wonderful narrator and I really thought she did a great job of bringing this story to life. One of the things I love most about this book is the ensemble cast. It can be difficult to keep track of who is who when you first start listening but the synopsis is so well written that I referred back to that to ensure I had everyone memorised and could really settle into the story.

This was one of those books I saw playing out in front of me like a movie or a television show. I saw everyone on their own journey, make the detour to the inn and each character on their own journey of person discovery. This is almost like a mid-life coming of age story for most of these characters. This tiny inn and everything that surrounds it is the perfect setting for these characters to really take a look inward and have a think about where they are, where they've been and the next step they want to take.

I warmed to Bridge and Luke straight away. They have been on a journey together and they were very easy to relate to, I could see them slotting into my own life as neighbors or friends of friends. Their story is a little bitter sweet and I really loved the way they bonded together as they bonded with the other characters. Mary and Jack are that classic combination of a hard working woman and a man who doesn't see how hard working his assistant is just because she is so hard working. She is the swan and he is he passive recipient of all of her time saving efforts. I loved watching Mary step outside of her comfort zone and seeing if Jack would realise her worth.

Charlie and Robin were my favourite characters, the true hedonists of the group. I felt sorry for them that they had to detour on their way to Scotland but I loved that they got to interact with the other characters because I think they really brought out the best in everyone. Their story is definitely the most emotional but that because fo the passion that the two of them throw into their lives. I would definitely have found myself drawn to their pair if I was in that inn too.

Fans of Milly Johnson will know that he books often feature the newspaper The Daily Bugle and whilst that paper doesn't feature in this book, it has been replaced with another form of media to provide comedy interludes in this narrative. I loved tuning into Radio Brian and really would have enjoyed his festive musings myself I am sure. This book is just the right balance of festive, funny and introspective and I really enjoyed the audio. I did laugh and I did cry so you know you're in for a good time with Milly Johnson's latest.

Another gorgeous, sumptuous and decadent novel from my favourite Milly Johnson. A lovely and light, yet very poignant tale of love, loss, remembrance and discovery. Deliciously festive, romantically toe curling and satisfyingly, face smilingly brilliant I highly recommend this if you are feeling low or just want a nice, easy read this Festive season. What a gorgeous book.

I’ve not read many books by Milly Johnson but she is fast becoming a firm favourite.

Figgy Hollow sounds idyllic. All the characters are wonderful in their own rights. My favourite was Charlie. Can just picture him now with a hot chocolate and a mince pie.

A definite ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.

Oh wow… what a beautiful magical christmas read.
This book gave me all the feels. I cried, I laughed, I grieved. I went into this book not knowing that it was going to be in third person about six different characters, so I must admit I was sceptial at first.
I kept going and damn this book really gave me all the feels and had such a warm christmassy vibe to it.
I think it taught me some life lessons as well. I also loved the chemistry between the small friend group that is formed, and the diversety of characters❤️
Beautiful story!!😍🎄

It was definitely Milly Johnson's style. Her wit and warm voice.

Sadly, I couldn't harmonize with the Christmas atmosphere. So, the biggest part of the novel was lost to me, I almost felt annoyed a few times. (Probably it wasn't a great idea to read it in October, but I did read some Christmas stories out of the season and I did feel them.)
What I appreciated though, was Bridge and Luke's story. It was marvelous, deep, complex, and with a perfect ending. Just because of it, it was worth reading.

The rest of the characters and their stories were nice too, but weak compared to Bridge and Luke's.

I recommend reading it at Christmas time, you will get the chance to feel it and experience it deeper - this way, enjoy it more.

[3 stars, although 5 stars for Bridge and Luke]
