Bought in KL. It’s always nice to peruse bookstores in new places and discover local writers who often reflect on their own cities. Has an interesting way of tying your own experiences as someone passing through with someone who calls this place their home.

These essays ended up feeling more like sitting with a rambling old man talking about times in his life and the people he met, the work he did, the life he experienced and the books and art that inspired him.
It starts off rather awkwardly, just like two new acquaintances first sitting down for a chat. But eventually the conversation finds a rhythm, the wife comes and chats a bit and by the end of the night there’s a general feel of the well intentions of the person that you could disregard the anglocentrism and showcasing.
