In their quest to find and neutralise the powerful magicium Nodes, Logan, Carla and Blessing are thwarted by a new player. Politician Nimueh Barron-Schaeffer, hoping to become the next Secretary-General of The Authority, enlists the three to conduct a series of heists to further her ambition.
But when a hivemind entity led by the insectoid Monarch escapes imprisonment to consume the country's natural resources, the trio are confronted with their greatest threat since Mistress. And as these kobolds begin to consume magic, even Barron-Schaeffer can't ignore the danger.
With so many agendas competing, the crew becomes increasingly uncertain of the road ahead. And every moment they delay, Monarch creeps towards a position of unassailable power.
When every road leads to destruction, how do you choose your next step?
Award-winning author T.N. Baldwin is an Australian who dreamed of writing a novel when he was a tiny boy in primary school. As a tiny man, he made several unsuccessful attempts over the years. Then, one fateful day (October 14th, 2018) he woke with... THE IDEA. He began writing that day. Four months later, he completed his first draft. Over twenty drafts later, he had the first novel ready for release. And The Magicium Series was born…
An English/Drama teacher in his former life, he has lived and taught on three continents. These experiences have broadened the horizons of the boy who grew up in western NSW and Queensland in Australia. Today he lives in NSW with his wife and children – along with two dogs he pretends not to like. In his spare time he plays football and cricket, as well as listening to hard rock music. He has released five novels so far: Discoveries (winner of the Literary Titan Gold Book Award), Disruptions, Disciples, Disintegration and Dissidents. His sixth novel is due for release in 2023.
My real-life circumstances meant it took me much longer than expected to finish this seventh installment — though that’s no reflection on the writing or storyline.
Dispossessed, the latest addition to T.N. Baldwin's Magicium Series, is a triumph of imagination and storytelling. Baldwin’s uncanny worldbuilding continues to astonish, pulling readers into scenes so vivid and intricate they feel like stepping into another realm entirely.
What truly sets this installment apart is its deeper exploration of the Splinters — a concept that fascinated me in previous books but truly came alive here. The attention to detail, particularly in the blood-drawing mechanics, adds a layer of intensity and weight to the broader narrative. Perhaps it was just me, my real-life moments drawing my attention closer, or perhaps there was detail that I never noticed before.
The characters, both familiar and new, are as compelling as ever, with arcs that linger long after the final page. Baldwin’s talent lies in crafting not just a story, but a world of intrigue, making every interaction with the Splinters feel vital and charged with meaning. Perhaps I was more attuned to these nuances this time, but I found myself captivated by how seamlessly they fit into the world — a place you want to revisit, reimagine, and lose yourself in.
Maybe it’s just me, but I find stories feel a little more authentic when characters occasionally have to eat or use the facilities. It’s a small, human detail that makes them feel more believable.
And that plot twist in the second-last chapter? Completely blindsided me — in the best possible way.
Mr Baldwin, once again, you’ve exceeded all my expectations. Your storytelling is an artful balance of depth and excitement, and I can’t wait to see where you’ll take us next. Please, keep these masterpieces coming — I’ll be back again and again.
