Blown-Away Man

Rate this book
Brought up in a sleepy Lincolnshire village by unassuming parents, Ed Sullivan has, since the age of eleven, been on a mission to live the fullest and most successful life he can.

Now 40, creative director at a renowned London ad agency and married with two young children, life has moved on and become a little too predictable for Ed’s liking. Bored, restless and starting to doubt his achievements, he finds himself wondering what his old school friends are up to now…

It’s not long before Ed sets off to Lincolnshire to meet a group of old classmates whom he hasn’t seen in almost 25 years. But the evening turns out to be more of a distraction than he’d intended, when one of his old friends makes a revelation that turns his world upside down.

‘Blown-Away Man is a touching tale of what can happen when your life turns out just as you wanted it to, but not as you needed it to. With each new revelation in this complex story, you find yourself caring a little more about the characters, resulting in a poignant and heart-felt read. A brilliant book.’ Dorothy Koomson, author of The Ice Cream Girls

I write comedy for kids and young adults. Clementine Florentine (UCLan 2022) is a middle grade comedy with a punk & poetry flavour, and The Thing About Lemons (UCLan 2023) is a YA romcom set in the French countryside in summertime. Another teen romcom is in the pipeline, so watch this space…

My self-published novels aren't currently available for purchase, although they might return, refreshed and updated, at some point in the future.

I live on the south coast of the UK, with my husband, two children and an over-excited Labrador called Arnie.

This book was slow and tedious to read for a good 70% of the book. Not only was the main character unlikable they weren't engaging either and the book followed through a pretty standard plotline. The pacing was all over the place, dragging on and on providing us a bunch of information which felt like just a way to get a good conclusion. Some tension was garnered near the start of the book evoking interest which was pretty quickly diminished with the reveal.

The ending to this book was good; the character showed some real development and it handled a serious issue rather well. The ending was very fast-paced and over in an instant, again reaffirming the pacing was slightly off kilter. But a good ending cannot make up.for the journey it took to get there.

Another character element I don't think was explored very deeply was his want to participate in risky behaviour... It just seemed like a background fact rather than an ongoing element of his character. It didn't relate as well as it could have if the author showed us this part of him.

I don't think I can rec it.

An engaging story of personal goals and dreams which change with age. What Ed needs and wants in his 20s isn’t necessarily what he strives for in his 40s and a school reunion brings this to light in a very dramatic way.
I enjoyed how the characters developed throughout the book as they revealed different parts of their personality to the various people they conversed with, finally resulting in acceptance and hope by the finale.
This is the fourth book of Tasha’s that I have read and I’ve enjoyed them all for different reasons, I’m just sorry it took so long for this one to make it to the top of my TBR pile!

This was not my usual genre of books but one that I am glad to have read. The story is about a man, a man who thinks he has a happy, successful life, a life far removed from the lives of the people he grew up with.

To be honest he was a fairly judgemental man who had become a bit smug and a little bit bored with his life. Approaching 40 he felt it would be a good idea to plan a reunion of the friends he grew up with in a small Lincolnshire village, far removed from his new life in London. And that's when things began to change and not always for the better. He finds out a long kept secret that has far reaching repercussions and makes him unsure of everything he thought he knew.

While he, and many of those close to him, are rethinking everything they thought they knew he begins to learn a lot about himself and the man he was, the man he could have been and, eventually the man he became.

A lovely, gentle book about life, love and secrets.

A gentle story of a man whose life enters a crisis when he learns a secret from his past, and who then learns a lot about himself along the way.
