Set against the backdrop of a magical world hidden within the ordinary, the story follows Beatrice Brown, a reluctant thirteen-year-old witch who finds herself swept into an enchanting yet foreboding adventure when she enrols at Wandhurst Academy for Witches and Wizards. Torn between her life in the Ordinary world with her best friend Lacie and the pressures of her witchy heritage, Beatrice must come to terms with her magical identity.
At Wandhurst Academy, Beatrice struggles with her self-doubt, feeling like an outsider in a world that should feel like home. However as she bonds with new friends Bea begins to uncover her unique strengths. Yet danger looms, when monsters Bea believe only existed in her mind come to life, terrorising the Ordinary.
With themes of friendship, self-acceptance, and bravery, Beatrice Brown and The York Vampire blends humour, heart, and mystery in a magical coming-of-age tale.
This book was a fun read with serious messages. I think young teenage audience will love this magical world that the author has created. I loved it even now and appreciated the world Bea was part of. Also, I want a Newt when you read this book, you'll understand, love to continue this world with the next book!
I can't believe that I forgot to review this book. I read this with my daughter and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Is this a book aimed at teens and young adults yes - did I enjoy it and would if read it without my daughter also a yes. This is a cute story about Beatrice who is a 13 year old witch torn between an ordinary life and her witch life. She is sent to a human school where humans are scared of witches and knows that something isn’t quite right.
